there isn't really a "correctly"

Kali and Parrot are useful just because they come packaged with large toolsets

but you can generally install all those tools on whatever other distro you're using (with some rare exceptions)

and there are lots of approaches you can take to deployment. Maybe you build an environment in a VM and then clone the VM, keeping the source as a template
Maybe you write a custom bash script that you keep in a remote git repo to run on a new OS install to reinstall all the tools and settings you like to use
maybe you use a distro like NixOS for declarative configurations

that's one way to do it for sure. I would recommend gaining more familiarity with using Linux in general. Try installing individual tools themselves. Try changing your system configuration and making new users and groups. Get used to how Linux is structured first so you undersatnd what you're doing. Otherwise, you might as well just stick to using Kali/Parrot for these goals - there's nothing wrong with doing so

my college offers lecture/lab courses for the certs like A+, Sec+, etc, usually followed by cram courses where the "pass" condition is to pass the Cert Exam, but I can get the cram course written off by just passing it on my own time instead (plus paying just the cert cost is cheaper than the cram course fees)

I already got A+ and AWS's basic Practitioner (originally was gonna get cloud as my dual major but the Associate cert class failed to run, so I swapped), need Net+ and either Sec+ or CCNA for my Networking major, but I'm dual majoring in Cybersec which doesn't accept CCNA for the credit, so Net+ and Sec+

Universities are getting lazy. I've noticed certs being thrown into degree courses instead of the institution developing their own material, I just think it's bad. If you are paying tuition fees you should be getting a good learning experience

Had my Sec+ since Highschool, but I still had to take an Info Sec class that went over the same syllabus as the Sec+.

They waived my Final exam but the class couldn't be waived 🤦‍♂️

@rustic carbon we have a correspondence university, called the Open University. They charge £10K a year for the courses they sell, two of the modules are the CCNA split in two, and you don't even get to take the exam. You have to pay for the exam yourself

they have commercial drivers liscense, electricians union on campus, etc

plus healthcare and IT, plus probs some other stuff I haven't looked at
