I'm having some trouble getting the deployed servers to respond to an SSH request from my machine. It happened on Day 12 and Day 13 of AoC2. Regardless of what user I put in, my prompt hangs for a minute or two and then says "connection closed by MACHINE_IP port 22". I can ping the server, I can telnet into the server. Any troubleshooting recommendations?

Hello everyone, i am beginner and i stuck with deploying machines because openvpn won't connect. I get TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity) and then TLS handshake failed. I googled it and tried many things but couldn't fix it myself. Iv have experienced a few times, that my time goes below 1 hour after having run for the first two hours initially allocated, and then turns off. the counter keeps runnning but the deployed machine stops answering at all.

Couple thing it could be, are you in any countries that block vpns? i.e. Egypt, China. Is your system time correct? Down to the second. Do you have any kind of firewall that may be blocking the connection?

I am not sure where to post this, and maybe it is just me who was not aware. But if you are using WSLs to solve rooms and want to use a looted ssh-key, then you will have to move it to a wsl-only folder before chmod'ing it.

I just spent a good while tearing my hair out, watching ssh straight up ignoring my chmod 600 id_rsa commands and telling me the permissions where too open - until I moved the file from /mnd/<host-drive etc.> over to /home/<user

I have been having this problem since last night and its extremely frustrating. I created a task last night and when i save it, it says Success: Task updated and Saved. When i refresh the page to check the updates, everything disappeared. I rewrote half of it so i could come back today and saved it. Same thing with the success and save. Now 8 hours later, most of my work is completely gone. Is there any place that i could get it back? I dont feel like writing it completely again.

I have trace my steps with both the Ubuntu and Kali VM and for some reason I get a reverse shell in the Ubuntu (over NAT) and not through Kali VM (over bridge mode.. also, i have changed it to NAT but nothing). I was connected over the same network, EU-VIP-2. Of course, I stopped one machine and then reconnected with the other. I didn't have both of them connected at the same time. Anyways, dont know if anyone had issues with reverse shells... I will keep investigating.

I think I'mm gonna loose it soon ...

The webattack machine apparently hates me because the display keeps resizing to a small window, ant that is very very annoying and makes-it almost impossible to use.
If using my own VM i don't have internet access while the VPN is connected (yes the VPN is configured on kali VM not on the host) and that does not help me since i need internet to access sites like crackstation, git ... etc.

Hey, I have a weird issue that came up last night that I can't seem to make sense of, maybe you guys can help?

I was unable to connect to any discord room last night while on my local network. I tried restarting my PC, redownloading discord, and changing the server region for the discord channel. I then tried to connect with my phone while connected to the wifi and still couldn't connect. I turned the wifi on my phone off and instantly connected. I then turn my VPN on, on my PC and was able to connect. I went through my routers firewall and found no issues that would have caused this to happen. I am confused as to why this was only happening to me and not my buddies in the channel as every other application I was useing had no issues.

I'm staring to consider rolling my own VM in which to complete THM rooms as well connect to THM VPN and run terminals directly in the VM. That would give me persistence (unlike the attackboxes) and would be a nice way around this.

ugh, I originally got the file from a github link in the room (Network Services 2). So I thought maybe if I use wget in the attackbox to grab the file, but the commands keep failing with 404s, probably because the URL I grab from browser changes whether I get it by copying link or navigating and then copying from URL bar

I figured it out! For some reason, my text editor puts a - where a word wrap (not an end of line but just wrapping for display sake) occurs. I was using that dash as part of the URL structure, which is exactly why it was failing. Removed that and wget worked like a charm

If you are receiving a 404 error after attempting to download the OpenVPN Configuration file please try these steps:

• Press regenerate, wait 30s and then try downloading again

• Change VPN server and try downloading again

• Log out of your account and log back in.

Hello, I tried searching but could not find an definitive answer.

Is connecting to the THM VPN a potential security issue? It would place me on the same network as everyone else trying to hack right? 😀

My setup is Parrot running in VirtualBox on a Macbook. If I connect to the VPN through Parrot and the VM's network setting are set as NAT, is it secure? Or should I use some other setting?

Hello. So i just started doing Linux Fundamentals. And in the second part of it I needed to deploy the machine. But when I tried to deploy the machine, it would just give me the machine information without it being accessible. I waited for at least 15 minutes multiple times to see if anything would change but nothing happens. I also am connected with the OpenVPN but it doesn't give me access, neither with or without it. However it does give me access to a machine in the first part of Linux Fundamentals. I have also tried other rooms like Linux Fundamentals part 3 and Vulnversity to see if it works, but the same thing happens.

But the thing is that its saying "Deploy the machine and SSH into the room with the credentials below (which is a username and a password)". And it has a button to deploy the machine but like I said it just gives me its information (witch is the IP and the time remaining on the machine) and won't be accessible.

Hello - I'm having issues with connecting. It appears my VPN connection is successful, however unable to SSH into the machine (currently Linux3). Attempts to ping the machine were also unsuccessful. I've tried regenerating and changing servers (even went ahead and upgraded to premium and switched to one of the VIP servers). Again, appears the VPN connection is successful, however once on the network unable to reach the machine at the address deployed in my Linux3 room. Any thoughts on what the issue might be?

Aws hard codes the interface name to something (eth0 I think?) so you have to change the interface name in the knockd config. To test it either change your interface name locally or just make sure it works and then when you upload change the interface name in the config and yolo and test

I found solution, if I can help anybody this was the problem

In my router settings there was this option firewall protection:

When I set it to high it doesn't work

When I set it to low it connects

#

But then again I dont know what they mean by high/low as its not specified

#

Maybe some of my ports are now wide open and I don't want that

#

Honestly, I have no idea where the problem is. I thought my email not the same but token is key to verify the door (doesn't matter who hold the key (email)).
