You will have to reinstall windows @reef agate you can set it to set it to BIOS at least in vmware (you'll have to google if you use a different software)

Ok. I'm starting to want to give up on this.

I've uploaded the .ova file that I extracted from VMware, uploaded it, let it convert or whatever and it worked fine

now, I deploy the machine to see if I can do the test to check that it works, but when doing the nmap scan, the port that should be open, is filtered (basically saying the machine is not powered on)

Is there an admin or someone that could check if a machine is running as it should?

Very possibly, depending on the nature of the room, such as a walkthrough, you will be told if you need to SSH into it. Sometimes figuring out if you can / the crendentials is the challenge for rooms

Part of the challenge for that room is finding out the username and password that you need to authenticate with. If it gets to the point where it recognises the password as wrong then you can connect okay (:

I changed my vpn config file and it worked. I was able to access the website. The main issue was I couldnt ssh a machine in a different room so Ninja suggested I do the OpenVPN room. I just tried ssh in the room I was stuck at and it finally worked.

last question, Im not able to access the machine in browser with its IP but Im able to ssh into it(different room to OpenVPN room). Is accessing the machine in browser only enabled in the OpenVPN room?

There are very few rooms that you just put the IP into your browser and it gives you everything -- most of the time you need to scan it, figure out what's going on, then maybe connect to a webserver on the machine

why are the machines constantly up and down? i'm using the VIP vpn but for the last week I can't connect to the machines for more than a couple minutes before it goes down then it comes back up for a couple minutes then back down. it's not my internet, i've tried reconfiguring on the access page, and still no stable connection. I can't use dirb because it get's through the a's then times out. visiting the page in the browser does the same thing

Interesting. Have you tried switching to a VPN server that is geographically closer to you @carmine pumice? The EU servers are based within Ireland - they're better for load balancing if anything ]

I would argue the case that choosing a server closer to you (even if regular) would give you better performance then the VIP server (singular as it stands)

Closing the terminal doesn't necessarily kill the process

sudo killall openvpn and then reconnect. Control C in the terminal to make sure it closes the VPN connection and then close the tab

How much faster are the paid machines? I'm currently on the free plan, but often machines take minutes to load a page (not load the machine, load a single page) or stop working completely (needing a redeploy)

It's frustrating because I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or the machine is simply being slow

@sturdy umbra Yeah, checked those - restarted vpn and even the pure IP address wouldn't load. It would ping though. I can access now, although ping time is 300ms (vs 18ms Google.com and 6ms 1.1.1.1) - what is a "decent" ping for these?

This isn't really tryhackme related but it's still pentesting related. I've got a fresh kali install on a VM and when I try to initialize the database by typing: "msfdb init" in the terminal it tells me I need to run as root but the problem is that I need the root password which I don't have. I've tried toor but that doesn't work.

@plucky gust the tryhackme kali machine is already connected to the network. If you use your the virtual machine you have setup on your own computer. When you launch your vm. Like James says you will have to openvpn on your own kali vm.
