The new threat hunting sim has a problem.
When adding a stage I accidentally selected a user (which is optional), and now I cannot select no user. I can switch which user I want to choose, but I cannot just select none.

It seems like recently every machine I try to scan, or communicate with either hangs or only responds very rarely. The VPN is connected (I've tried regenerating and downloading a new ovpn config) and MTU is set to 1500 (tested with 1200 after seeing previous comments about issues). Sometimes I get a partial nmap scan (thanks to -vvv) and sometimes it takes forever and then finishes with no results.

Unfortunately it plays perfectly nicely with the Attack Box so I'm sure there's something causing issues with my boxes but I'm not sure why all of a sudden this is now happening. Any thoughts or recommendations I can try to resolve outside of what I already mentioned? This has happened on two different boxes I use (home desktop & laptop).

When connecting to OpenVPN and using that to connect to the network do I still have to use attack boxes like in the Room that shows you how to get access? Is there a way to not launch the attack box since it feels quite slow and if I am on windows should I do openVPN from a Kali or other Linux VM instead for a better experience?

In my experience so far, I used OpenVPN and connected. Then, when working on a certain room, launching the machine provides an IP that can be then access on any browser from my machine without the need to use Attack boxes. its a preference as to which attack box you want to use and see which is recommended. My advice is to explore both and see for yourself!

Don't use WSL for THM , a lot of users reported problems with it and connection to THM network , also try no use EU-VIP 1 and 2 server at the moment . Seems like they're having some issues , use EU-regular 3 instead

if you do not have a tun interface with an IP address in the /24 address space of your AD config, you should download a VPN config file from your access page and run openvpn with it You may have to regenerate the VPN config file for the trick to work

That file is empty. I was able to gain access to the network connecting from my own device just not from the attack box built in.

Thanks, I saw this one, I thought maybe there some more specific information about instance-to a country for example?
The thing that last couple months when I’m getting reverse shell it is freezing all the time and sometimes I need to wait for a couple of minutes between running commands which is beyond of frustrating 💩
The problem is not in shell stability and not in the listener since I tried different one and on the offsec platform I don’t have such problems, so I’m trying to debug it 🫠 - maybe bad luck and a lot of users simultaneously or maybe just some vpn config problems not sure

I managed to figure this out but the interesting issue i noticed with the GUI version that caused the TLS handshake to fail was the fact that the import file on the gui never actually put the config files in the config folder, so when I manually copied the .ovpn file to the config folder I was able to connect and view the flag in the browser for the access checking room

circling back to your original post (#site-support message), you can conclude that commands through THM VPN are slower than via AttackBox, and it gets paritcularly noticeable with commands having heavy interactions (like the -T5 with nmap you referred to or the large word list with ffuf)
that is reasonable I think in the end

I normally connect via openvpn, but it stopped loading the sites in browser. Either having trouble finding the site, or the site just being greyed out.

I am trying to work on the Slingshot room (https://tryhackme.com/room/slingshot) but there seems to be an issue with the Elastic Stack machine (Title: Slingshot v1 (odacavoTHM)). I press the green Start Machine button in Task 1, then wait 5 minutes for it to run in the background and, presumably, fully start up. Then I press the Start AttackBox button and wait for the AttackBox to fully start up. Then I open the Firefox browser in the AttackBox and navigate to the specified IP address (most recently http://10.10.66.9). The page that loads simply says "Kibana server is not ready yet." Following the instructions in Task 1, I wait a few minutes and refresh the page. Same message. I wait even longer and refresh the page. Same message. I have tried terminating both the Elastic Stack machine and the AttackBox and restarting them - same result. I have tried restarting my own computer - same result. In the most recent iteration of this frustration, the Elastic Stack machine has been running (is it really?) for ALMOST 2 HOURS!! I still can't even get to the login page. Where is the breakdown????

I’m working through the room “John the Ripper - The Basics” and ran into an issue in Task 07 (Single Crack Mode).

• The original hash in hash07.txt:
7bf6d9bb82beda130f2311cf6b8b162ad

• I prepended the username as instructed:
Joker:7bf6d9bb82beda130f2311cf6b8b162ad

• Commands I tried:
john --single --format=raw-md5 joker_hash.txt
john --single --format=dynamic_0 joker_hash.txt
john --show joker_hash.txt

Each time John responds with
No password hashes loaded (see FAQ)

I also:
– cleaned the file with tr -cd '[:print:]\n'
– redownloaded Task 07 files and restarted the VM
– confirmed that other raw-md5 hashes load correctly

It seems the hash file in this task may be corrupted or in an unexpected format.

• if you cannot, switch to a different network instance by leaving the room and joining back a few minutes later, expecting to have all IPs in the same /24 address space

I made sure to act on it before the end of the day, and I fully completed 3 rooms afterwards. However, my streak did not get restored and was reset to 0, despite my efforts.

im doing my pt1 exam and currently facing some issues or errors

since yesterday, when I started the WEB scenario, I’ve been hitting this error right from the start of the WEB objective. There’s a timeout that cuts me off every 5 minutes—I can work for about 3 minutes, then I get this timeout error and everything dies for 5 minutes, which is super annoying. That means out of 60 minutes, 30 are completely unusable. To make things worse, the token expires in 10 minutes, so it’s really hard to complete the exam this way. Yesterday I reported it to TryHackMe, and today the first things I did were reconnect the VPN and restart the server, but the error is still there.

Is there any way to prevent auto-termination of machines as a premium user, if you're in the middle of an extremely complex and time-consuming task that can only be done on attached VMs it doesn't help me at all if I have to start all over from the beginning because of an unexpected termination and they happen maybe once or twice a day. While accessing the lab exercise in the “Practical Exercise of SOC” section, I noticed that upon clicking the "View Site" button, the lab opens in a split-screen view.

Usually, in similar labs, I am able to click on the “Fullscreen” icon located in the bottom bar of the attach box to open the site in a separate tab or full view. However, in this specific case, the Fullscreen option is not visible — only the “Exit Split View” button appears.

This is limiting my ability to use the lab on a second screen.
Could you please assist me in how to enable the fullscreen mode or access the site in a separate tab?

I'm having some trouble with the Blue windows room. I tried following the instructions and running the payload/windows/x64/powershell_reverse_tcp payload on the msfconsolse but it doesn't seem to be working

tried a couple other payloads too and they didn't work either

WSL is really not recommended, as it is known to cause trouble with THM VPN
that may be your issue here

in case you do not use WSL:

• on THM Attackbox, set LHOST to the IP of ens5 (but THM AttackBox does that automatically in MSF for you normally)
• withTHM VPN, set it to the IP of tun0
  For WSL, I have no clue

At least on my system, it's eth0. It doesn't seem to be working so I'll just spin up a vm instead.

Delete your current VPN file and change VPN server to EU-regular 3 it works fine for me

Maybe it's just temporary down . Try to delete European file and download Indian again tomorrow or in a few days from now . It happens from time to time for some server to go down for some time and then come back up 🙂

Every time I started the machine and try to login in it was saying kibana server is not ready. It said to wait 3-5 min, I waited 10-20 min even after that the message was same that kibana server is not ready

Looking at https://tryhackme.com/room/metasploitintro. Task1 has a start machine thing --- Says it's meant ot be a split screen thing --- No login info for ssh either --- No split screen button anywhere unless I'm blind.

above that, room material asks you to press the Start Machine button, and that will be for the target VM, and no Split-Screen for that one
