With Sweettooth room, still not possible to start a server. After pushing the button a popup comes message to have patience and then...nothing. Nothing on the screen to indicate that server ius starting or the IP address once this is done. Please help.

My AttackBox won't start. It just says "Failed to connect to server" and asks me to try and reconnect, which doesn't work. I also rebooted it completely and it's more of the same thing, any ideas? Nvm, after ~15 attempts, it now seems to work.

When you are at the login, press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to open a terminal. Once you're there run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoremove. Then sudo shutdown -n now. It might work

HI there, starting today I've been having issues connecting to THM via previously working .ovpn files. I've reset my network connections on my VMs as well as regenerated multiple instances ovpn configs.

I'm currently in a country where openvpn is NOT blocked, and using version: 2.6.

I found a THM forum post from a few months ago the fix listed (changing cipher to data-cipher) isn't working for me.

Running sudo openvpn tryhackme.ovpn produces the following output:

If it helps, I started encountering this issue in the last 24 hours. Regenerating didn't fix it. But adding --data-ciphers AES-256-CBC to the openvpn connect command fixed it.

Again the command is:

i'm having problems with throwback network right now. I can't connect to vpn. here are what i did

  1. openvpn v2.6
  2. regenerated the config - does not work
  3. downloaded a normal regular vpn for the other rooms - did not work
  4. followed the pins and updated the cipher line for the other rooms - it worked! got connected
  5. did the same for the throwback config but still got the same problem.

I am trying to connect to THM through OpenVPN and am getting the following error in my linux terminal:

I am kinda new here but I had a streak of 27 that changed to 27 almost exactly 12 hours ago, at 1:40 am on Feb 5, its now approx. 12 hrs later and I just got home from work and I see my account reset to 1 day. I have been going crazy trying to do something every just before and after my sabbath so this would not happen over my sabbath (which is 27 hrs but spread over Friday afternoon/even and Saturday and started a habit of trying do something every 12 hrs or so, which is actually a nice rythm, so I really don't understand why I got reset today, midweek, when I know I was on less than 24 hrs ago. Could someone please explain to me how it really works and why I got reset to 1 day less than 12 hours after my last completed activity? Do I need a certain number each day? Is there a specific server time that it rolls over? Thanks in advance, just a bit discouraged now.

Hi, all I guess its not my week. I pinged support yesterday about my streak but the autoresponder says up to 3 days to respond, so I figured I would just keep studying. But today I am in the middle of Linux Part3 got into the the server and the hackbox & found my answer for Task 8 but when I went to enter it, everything locked up and won't let me enter anything. If you're using Kali Linux a VM would suffice, if your host system allows it.

Is the OpenVPN issue with "Add the server's cipher ('AES-256-CBC')" an issue on THM's end or is there something us users/clients have to do?

I'm still fairly new to Linux so if there's something I have to do on my end I follow directions well but I need the directions on what tod ...

I tried to regenerate keys for me to US-West-Regular-1 but I still get this error on my local Kali vm.

I didn't have this problem earlier and I noticed when rebuilding my vm the problem only starts after I 'sudo update' and 'sudo upgrade'.

I also noticed it happens when connecting via CLI. When I add a VPN connection through the desktop it looks to work OK.

Not sure what THM is looking for in resolving this VPN issue but I just tried again and with a Kali Linux 2022.4 virtual machine build (vmware) and using US-West-VIP-1 the cli command to start a vpn works, but after updating and upgrading Kali it stos working. US-West-Regular-1 also works until updating Kali.

thx for the sed command! i used it and am not running into cipher errors but still stuck in a restart loop when trying to get openvpn going on kali linux, getting TLS errors that the handshake failed

Hey,

Recently OpenVPN has updated their client.
This update has outdated our configurations and will not allow you to connect to our servers.

To see if you are affected by this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Type openvpn --version | awk '{print $2}' | head -n 1 into your terminal
    If it returns "2.6" or "2.6_git", this means you are using the newest version of OpenVPN.
    If it says something else, you are not affected. Please check the pins for other OpenVPN troubleshooting steps, or ask a community member for help.

  2. If you are using version 2.6 of OpenVPN then, do the following:
    Replace the cipher AES-256-CBC line in your .ovpn config with data-ciphers AES-256-CBC

To do this, you can use the text editor of your choice, or simply type nano filename.ovpn into your terminal.
Make sure not to edit anything else, and save it with the same file name.

Then, re-run the VPN with openvpn filename.ovpn. Let me or any of our community mentors know if these steps have not worked for you and we will troubleshoot further.
