It’s all coming together (I got a 14 on the map quiz freshman year)
And then there’s other worlds entirely, like Eberron or Ravnica.
And other planes of existence.
Oh my that’s a lot to remember. Is faerun a place where most things take plac e
Most of the official adventure books for fifth edition take place in the Sword Coast.
But you honestly don’t need to know everything.
Oh ok that’s good to know! I spent hours making a map for a continent I was trying to make up
Each adventure book covers what’s relevant to that adventure.
Oooh I like world building so I do like knowing 😂 and I definitely want to make a campaign for my friends soon
Do fighters get a shield??
And you can always make stuff up if you’re not sure, or even change what’s there to suit your own party’s needs.
They can use shields and I believe they can start with one
Check the starting equipment for the fighter class
All fighters get proficiency with shields.
And all fighters have the option of starting with a shield.
You can pick one weapon and a shield, or two weapons.
Oh maybe I’ll keep making my own little continent
Which class can wield a giant mace?
ok so Ive made my character should I do anything else before looking for people to play with?
Any class
Awesome 😎
However you’d want proficiency in it if you’re maining it
Nothing wrong with that. I’d suggest starting local. Where do the players begin the game, and where might their first couple adventures take them?
Um ackshully? Toril is the world and Faerun is the continent. Just in case it matters for the purposes of searching.
D’oh! Thanks.
Matt Colville has a great video called "The Local Area." He advocates what spam is recommending: starting small. The reason he does so is because some folks try to make an entire world with every detail figured out and never feel like it's perfect/ready, and thus they never begin playing.
@copper dragon “morningstars” are essentially giant maces and a fighter does have proficiency in one and can use one alongside a shield
If you want an even bigger one you could reflavour the maul to do piercing damage and call it a giant mace
But it’s two handed so you can’t use it with a shield
And their players never end up visiting half of it. 😅
If you have the gist of the rules, then you should be good to go. My caveat: have multiple character ideas, just in case you don't get to play the one you made as is because of particular restrictions.
oh i see
Should I do fixed or manual???
alright thanks for info
Actually I’ll do fixed
fixed or manual what? hp?
That’s normally something you’d want to ask your DM.
If you don’t have a DM yet, I’d just leave that whole first page alone.
(And when you get to Ability Scores, I’d also recommend sticking with Standard Array or Point Buy.)
My Hp is only 14 ☠️
yeah thats pretty okay
Level 1 can be deadly because no class has much HP, even though all classes get the highest amount on their hit die.
Fixed means you get the average amount of HP on each level up. Your DM will tell you whether to roll for HP or use the fixed amount when you join a group.
I leave it alone?
Again, that’s really a question for your DM.
If you don’t have a DM yet, I’d recommend leaving all those character settings at their defaults.
Are you trying to ask if a dragonborn’s choice for Draconic Ancestry determines their own color? No.
If you want to be red yourself and have silver ancestry, go for it.
Make your character look however you want them to look.
There are color variations among dragonborn, which determines the type of breath weapon they have.
If you want to have a scale of every color, go for it.
As long as you choose only one ancestry and follow its rules for what your character can do, you’re good.
For personal characteristics do you pick two per dice or two in general?
Are you referring to the personality of your character or the appearance?
Personal characteristics
Two personality traits, one each for the rest.
Just wanted to make sure I didn’t goof and break the rules
This particular section is primarily for your own benefit. You can use as much or as little of it as you like.
You can also just pick instead of roll, or make up your own answers.
The things that affect your role play are called flavor; they dont affect game mechanics and are wide open to whatver you want
The rolling options are there if you want to inject that randomness into it
I finally finished making my character 😮💨
Midorth, The Vengeful
Breath weapon red
I didn’t understand building equipment in my character build is there any guidelines to this?
Starting equipment is determined by class and background
depending on the campaign you may be permitted to sell it (usually for half the price) and buy other common items to start with
I mean I had an awful lot of options so I just picked one from each tab
That is correct, there are options
Yeah, they tend to give a bunch of A/B options.
There’s no right or wrong choices for those.
You just pick whichever of the two you want.
Okay cool my wife is making one also not really sure where to go from now but I usually have every Sunday free. Always wanted to try out DnD but never knew where to start maybe this is it.
You could head to #character-discussion if you want someone to double-check your character.
Or you can head to #find-a-game if you’re looking for a group to join.
Hello!
Hi
hello hello!
How are y'all?
Doing alright! How about yourself?
I'm good, currently working on a chatbot for an OC of mine
What about you? Whatcha doin rn?
Currently chatting and listening to music, it's semi-early here still!
what are your pronouns, btw?
oop, okay
Hi where do you guy's find other ppl that play dnd ?

How normal is it to "main" a character and use it in different campaigns on different tables?
Depends on the person
unless you're playing what's called Adventurer's League (D&D organised play), you very likely will not be able to take your character as-is between tables.
However people do make the same character concept for different games, even if it's not the exact same character
For example, the actor Joe Manganiello always plays some variation of 'Arkhan the Cruel', a red dragonborn paladin of tiamat
But to carry the knowledge with the char to a new table? I dont talk about a clone. :D
What do you mean by 'knowledge'?
I mean you could sure, maybe build prior campaigns into backstory?
like the same person. mh, his/her experiences and so on
Nope, you likely wouldn't be able to do that
Depends on the starting level honestly, the higher level the more experiences you could reasonably say the character had been through
Because there's no guarantee that the campaign you're taking the character to would even be in the same world
That's also true
That's not even touching on the fact that your level represents, in part, your experience and thus it wouldn't work for a level 1 character (assuming that's the level you'd be expected to start at) to have the experience of a level 10 character
I see, thank you 🙌
Hey guys i made a character after seeing my bf and his friends play but i want to know a bit more about spells and what id do in a campaign before i join a campaign
I havent played before btw
Okay, well you're getting a few things in slightly the wrong order
Firstly, you don't do anything in a campaign before you join one.
Also, it's generally a better approach to make your character after you've joined a campaign so you can make a character that suits the campaign
Each DM can run their world differently and this may change how someone goes about making a campaign
Just means less friction; you wouldn't want to make a dragonborn necromancer only to find out that in the game you're joining dragonborn don't exist and all necromancers are evil for example
Yeah fair enough hahaha
As for combat, have you checked out the basic rules?
Yeah
Have you read the section there on combat?
Im reading it now
Hey hey!
Anybody know the best place to find information on DnD through discord or about adventurers league?
Those are two different things
Guess I'm wondering what will suit me best right now
For Adventurer's League, head on over to our AL section; #adventurers-league is a good place to start
As for playing D&D using discord, well that's just a case of setting up a call with your group and playing
you can get fancier with stuff like setting up your own server, adding bots, etc, but all you need to get started is a call
I see, that makes sense!
Is there a group rally spot? Somewhere I can find a group to play with or people recruiting?
head over to #find-a-game, but the important thing to keep in mind is that D&D is more like putting together a soccer team that plays every saturday than doing an MMO raid
I definitely get that, I'd like to make a commitment to a campaign since I'll have some free time this summer.
I am fairly knew to the logistical side of DnD though, so I'm wondering about apprehensions to take a new player
That's something unique to each DM
Some (like myself) love new players, others prefer experienced players
It's pure preference
I'll head to find a game then thank you! You've been extremely helpful
Another question if I may, should I get a character prepared before trying to find a game?
So, it can be useful to go through the steps to make ancharacter to familiarize yourself with the process, however each game and DM may do things differently and have different setting requirements and plans and not everything will work
Okay gotcha, thank you both!
Hey there folks,
Would anyone advice me in building a lvl 3 INT based caster, who can also detect and disarm traps?
We have no rogue in the group, only paladin, druid, barbarian and me..
Thanks a lot;)
You'd want either wizard or artificer for INT.
Hi there. If you are ready to start building a character, you should probably ask about that in #character-discussion or #optimization
My mind immediately went to Arcane Trickster, though it's only a third-caster.
Eldritch Knight would be the same.
But yeah, if you want to really get into it, #character-discussion is a better choice.
where would I start looking for people to play with? I've just started and none of my friends are really interested

Hi, I’m planning to DM a campaign for my friends in a couple months. None of them have any character ideas yet, and I wondered if it is considered okay for me to tell them not to create ‘evil’ characters with no intention of a character arc or redemption? I find that evil characters make it very difficult to run a regular campaign and never mesh with the rest of the party, especially in smaller groups.
Of course, I don’t want to limit my players and want them to have as much fun as possible, but since none of them have plans for a character yet would this be okay?
It's within your right as a DM to limit character options. Sometimes it's for lore reasons. Sometimes it's because of playstyle. Most players will accept and respect those restrictions, especially if it's clear why they're in place.
Okay brilliant, thank you!
I’m very new to DMing so am still working things out, and am trying to be wary about placing limits on my players haha
It's good to check yourself, but it's not a free-for-all either.
To tack onto this a bit, the sentiment I've seen in reddit is that most DMs only allow 3 to 6 alignments from the chart, the lawful good, lawful neutral, and neutral good, and then some arbitrary combination of the diagonal.
Although, take my words for a grain of salt, I'm also new, and that's just the impression I gained from lurking
You can definitively restrict some player options. What works best is to openly discuss the reasons for doing so. Even better if you all make characters together AFTER you have pitched them the general theme of the campaign. If the campaign is a bronze age greek / romans kinda thing, a musketeer chartacter would be way out of place.. Regarding aligments: I've grown used to the idea of just not using them. Let player actions determine their general moral and ethics. I do however prohibit murderhoboism, since this is only fun for like a short session and then it quickly becomes very boring. I encourage players to act more in accordance to "real life" people.. so basically NOT killing every being on sight...
"The alignment chart" in general, is really only used at all for beginners. Its a tool to help people get in the right frame of mind for their characters, but it can be a little limiting as you get more comfortable with the game, and want to make more complex character personalities
Let's keep things to the basics please. Stuff like restricting alignments is a bit beyond the scope of this channel
dming Phandelver with 6 total newbies, anyone know how long the ambush and cave might take us?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes at least a session or two. Especially if y’all are pausing to look up rules and whatnot.
wow ok so like 6 hours, I'll definitely hand out sheets, extremely nervous
That's natural. Remember that everyone's there to have fun, not judge you. You can always pause things to look up something you don't know, or you could make a ruling on the spot (to check after the game's over). Breathe. Drink water. Be honest with people about your nervousness if you can trust them with that info.
Anyone wanna join my group
If you're a DM, you should post in #looking-for-players. See the instructions in #find-a-game.
wassup guys
i'm fairly a noobie and i have a question. I've started playing in a campaign where i play as a dragonborn barbarian, today i read that according to someone you can do secondary things with your elemental breath other than firing it in a cone/line, such as infusing your melee weapon with it and giving it additional damage. is this true??
Not true according to the Rules as Written, I don't think. Folks have probably homebrewed alternative uses, however—in other words, made up their own uses in the game.
ahh what a pity, that could've been a cool thing
In general, features only do what they say; if its not in the description for your dragonborn race, then its not allowed under the rules
However, you may always ask your DM and see if he will allow something creative
That sounds like the Gift of the Chromatic Dragon feat. It is not something a dragonbron can inherently do, nor is it limited to a dragonborn to take the mentioned Feat
oh
Ultimately, you'll need to check with your DM if they use feats (an optional rule) and if they allow content from that book (Fizban's Treasury of Dragons).
~~I think you folks are overlooking the alternative Dragonborn race (from Fizban's as well) which allows you to do that very thing.
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in a 15-foot cone...~~
But yeah, I'd check with your DM. They may not allow it.
The Fizbans Chromatic Dragonborn allows you to replace an attack with a breath attack. It says nothing about what the user asked about , which is infusing a weapon with its energy
As stated above, he may be referring to a feat
Oh, I misread their original message!
i can't send images but it says that you can infuse you weapon as a bonus action with the breath, and so it deals 1d4 additional damage, but only one time
and then in order to do it again you'll need a long rest
Correct. Thats the “Gift of the Chromatic Dragon” feat, which should be what you asked about.
You can take a feat instead of an ability score improvement, but because this rule is optional, you need to ask your DM
Note that the effect last a minute, which should get you through one combat
hhm i understand
but is one minute like one minute or is there a game time equivalent of one minute?
In combat, one round = 6 seconds. Therefore one min = 10 rounds
Most combats last 3 rounds so your breath infused weapon will benefit for the fight
Out of combat, the passage of fine is based on your DM
things that last 1 minute are usually for combat, so in this case, 1 minute means 10 rounds of combat
daamn that's a lot
even though it's just 1d4 additional dmg but that's still something :)

You don't have to memorize it or even udnerstand it all - but getting a feel for the game mechanics will be helpful for any discussion of D&D.
Should I start as a player or a dm for dungeons and dragons?
Player
Is there any class that is VERY new player friendly? i don't wanna get wrecked by balancing 30 bajillondy mechanics
The Fighter class is one of the simpler ones.
In case you want to try spellcasting, you can go for the Warlock.
what does a warlock do?
They're a spellcaster that has made a deal with a patron who gives them their power
That sounds cool, is it like, making a deal with the devil or is it just like, a god?
It can be a god, devil, fey, lich. Anything with a large amount of power.
It would be up to the player and DM to discuss who the patron is and how the Warlock got their powers.
that sounds cool!
this is giving me deja vu
I really want to engage in some DND but I have no clue where to find people to play with, I even have a game of DND, but I have no one to play with, does anyone know some tips for finding others to join?
i really like dnd but ive only played a tiny bit and i keep askign stuff liek this but is there some way to play solo for free
or should i find a group?
Check out #looking-for-players for online groups
You can also check out online games at the DndBeyond site or places like Roll20 or Foundry
There are a lot more players than DMs so it might take a couple applications to find a group to play with
also dont be afraid to step out of a group if needed
Thank you.
but for real ar ethere free tools to help play dnd solo as a manly new player?
Have you read the free Basic Rules yet?
i hav ethe dnd starter kit/box
I think the Starter Set doesn't have the full Basic Rules.
In any case, D&D isn't really a solo game but rather it's a group collaborative game.
There are ways to play "solo" but that's more akin to "Choose Your Own Adventure" types of books.
that makes sense

Hi I like 3.5
Thank you.
How does Ki work on a monk?
lvl 5
i know i can restore it after a short or a long rest but no clue how to use it in battle
You get 5 ki points to use for flurry of blows step of the wind etc etc
If you read through the class, various abilities will say if they use ki and if so, how much
Hello i got this Character concept that is a Cleric/warlock/enchanter [still dont know what class it is] but it doesnt have a weapon but a golem construct that serves as the characters weapon and shield since it do the orders of the character
so basically the character is a support that has a golem/organic construct as its weapon of choice.
I think you might be going about this backwards
Instead of coming up with a complex character concept and then trying to make it work, try looking at the rules and making a character based on what the game supports
For example, cleric/warlock/"enchanter" (I assume you mean school of enchantment wizard) is a pretty difficult multiclass to pull off, and none of those classes have golem pets
ok tnks
pretty new with dnd so thanks for the input
Look at the Artificer class battle smith
They didn’t mean multiclassing those classes they were just throwing random terms around im pretty sure
hello, im a newcomer, how can i in general make characters and or play the game online?
You can use the dndbeyond character creator to make a character sheet online
Cool :D link please?
thanks :D
Make an account and you should be able to find the character creator pretty easily
As for playing online most people use discord voice chats

wait
should i do rollor standard array?
Whatever your DM decides is being used
If you don't have a DM and are just making a character to get the hang of it, it doesn't matter
ok thanks :D
It’s not a quick thing to find a game spread your net wide
Ik. But it just gets frustrating yanno blegh
How long you been looking?
I’ve been looking since I got here 💀
11 days is that long to be looking for a game
I can take many weeks, if not months. You just have to be persistent
In the modern world of immediacy 11 days can be a lifetime, but finding a good D&D game can take a "very" long time.
Here? On this server?
- You can make a post (either as a DM or player) and wait for replies (either from players or DMs)

where do i find the other ppls posts?

any sites to start creating character sheet that is newbie friendly
D&D Beyond's character builder gives you the basic rules options, and has help text that can be enabled
should the level of class start with one?
Well unless you have a D&D& group and game that has established a different starting level, I'd suggest starting at level 1.
kinda new and this is what became of my character creation
a warrior cleric that Heals itself
lol
Strong concept, warrior clerics are fun 😄
gimick skill Putting Light spell on the sword to blind the enemy every swing lol
how do you share D&D beyond character sheet
i might need some twicking
Click the 9 red squares o. Your character sheet, click view on website. Then if you click the manage button there should be a link in the list
I want my Character to not die and constantly fight while shouting
"Deus vult, Convert or die"
a non believer
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/103620171 <<<--- can someone check and tell me what to tweek
You’ve no equipment
It was a chant used by Christians in the crusades, and has been co-opted by alt-right groups now for that reason.
In D&D Christian crusade chants wouldn't make sense to use, and there's very few gods that care about forcibly converting others, as D&D is pantheistic.
what it didnt saved?
it didnt save lol
You can edit it go to manage character
And your con is bad I’d swap it with your Cha score
theres no artifice on D&D beyond class :<
Artificer is not in the SRD and so needs to be bought to be used
i was planing to make a class that rely on a mech bodyguard lol
whats the difference of the two bro
Con is your ability to withstand damage and stuff having a -2 in it will mean you prob won’t survive
ok tnks
Have a read of the basic rules
Constitution helps boost your HP. Considering you have -2, that means your HP will only increase by an average of 3.5 a level
ok tnks
since its a mix of Warrior and Cleric which stats should i have the most points?
which of the core set books like houses all the important rules and gameplay systems you need to know to run a campaign
Int? or Dex/Strngh
the dm book so far just seems to be helping you build your own campaign but nothing about the rules so far as I can see
You can run just using the Basic Rules if you want.
just wondering which of the 3 books I definitely need to read before running a campaign
PHB is probably the most core
Player's Handbook or Basic Rules has the mechanics of how to play
a pre-made one anyway
awesome
Hello guys. I'm a new member
which set is the basic rules in?
I mean probably doesnt matter since the phb probably has all the full rule sets
Basic rules is covered in the PHB
kk
Basic rules itself is a pdf online you can access for free
You can find them here
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
it's alright I'll just read the phb
anyone know what should be my main points be when im a warrior/cleric multiclass
Int? or Dex/Str?
DMG has some variant rules and tips on making your own campaign.
I'm just amazed that like a campaign tips and advice book is 300+ pages long
To multiclass between Fighter and Cleric you need 13+ is Wisdom and 13+ in Str or Dex
like it'd take weeks to read this whole thing
since I'm doing a pre-made campaign for my first I'll probably ignore the dm guide for now
Probably Wisdom if you want to cast Cleric spells. Strength or Dex depending on flavour of fighter
You're not expected to read any of the books front to back. You just need to read bits as you need them. No need to read all of the magic items, or all of the variant rules, or things on planar travel and so on if you're not needing those yet.
I mean I'm a total beginner so I would presume I just need to read through the phb
I don't think I've even read through the entire PHB >.>
then how am I supposed to know what to look for smh
Look at the index/page of contents?
Indexes and content sections. Focus on character creation and combat to start, as they're the most technical. After that, look things up as they come up.
There are certain chapters you’ll need to read in whole.
alright but like I'm like a complete beginner even if I've been in a couple campaigns a long time ago
just for reference
But if you have no interest in being a Cleric, you don’t need to read all the Cleric subclasses.
You definitely want to read chapters 7-10 on how the game actually works
If you’re not a character that can cast spells, you don’t need to read the chapters for spellcasting.
I'm going to be dming so gonna have to know some stuff for my players' characters
hmmm
your going to Dm?
need to try and get up to speed on the important basic stuff asap
can i join lol
yeah I mean we're all absolute total beginners and one of us has to be the dm so it ended up being me
mostly cuz I have all the books n stuff
add friend me so i can be up to speed when you going to start a campaign
As Lionn said, look over chapters 7-10. But outside combat and character creation, you have a lot of leeway.
In that case, you might want to know what the vague theme of each Cleric subclass, but you don’t need the actual rules for it unless a player chooses one.
I'm going to have to help them make their chrs anwyay so I'll probably know what to reference after that
It's perfectly fine to just go with your intuition on how things should work, then if something feels like it's not working, look through the books to see if they talk about that situation
And then once they’ve made their choice, then you can familiarize yourself with the abilities they can use in their first session.
If you’re trying to find a game, head on over to #find-a-game to get started.
I tried to find a game but no luck yet =\
Takes time to find a game that both fits your schedule and that you vibe with the social group.
same
Dnd isn’t like an MMO where you can join a game on the day you start playing it can take a while to find a table and even then there is some prep before a campaign starts. You might be lucky and find a game that starts today but they are few and far between.
You can find games at other places like Reddit roll20 Facebook groups and also IRL games at your friendly local game store
Reddit roll 20, got it thanks.
I live in Thailand so my local play store isn’t really with D&D
Yeah games outside of English-speaking countries can be a bit more of a challenge.
Hello! I'm super new to DnD, have played only one session so far, but it was rlly fun!
Can y`all recomemd some resourses where I could find one-shot offers? Cannot commit to a campaign currently
DM's Guild will have a bunch. Particularly the Adventurer's League modules which are originally written for organised play
What is DM's Guild and how do I find it??
Here's a link
https://www.dmsguild.com/
Yeah I scrolled a bit there, but the offers so far are for campaigns or really don't match the timezone
Thanks
Ahhh, I misunderstood. I thought you were after adventures to run, not one-shots to play in
Look I have only played once as a pre-made bard, I am nowhere near fit to DM 😂
wait why did it turn into an emoji
I am not a good discord user either
I am not waking at at 3 a.m to play dnd
I know StartPlaying has a search for one-shots, and I believe a few other sites at the link here do as well: #third-party-tools-archive message
Does anyone know any British or Spanish servers? I initially looked into DnD as a way to get to practice foreign languages, so their time zones would be way more managable.
What are you refering to with "StartPlaying"? is this another subchanel? In this case I do not see it on my left
I linked you to a list with a bunch of websites to use in finding games. StartPlaying is one of them.
oh got it
Hey guys I wanted to know what the rules are
For the game or for this Discord server?

Hello everyone! New DM prepping for his first session through a virtual VTT. Where do you guys get your maps from or do you make them yourselves? If so where? I appreciate the help and advice!
There are various sources of battle maps
- Professional map makers (they often have Patreon, giving subscribers maps while releasing free samples).
- Google Image Search
- map making apps (free and paid)
Twominutetable.top can have some nice ones. Lots of people on twitter also do maps.
If I want to join a campaign what should I say
#looking-for-players and respond under the ad in the attached thread
Thank you
Be sure to read the ad, and if there are any things to answer or the like, then just say that you're interested + why you're interested, a few things about yourself, and ask if there is anything else you need to read up or if they'd be available to chat about their game more so on.
Basically show that you're interested and that you've paid attention to what game you're joining and not just spamming any game.
Hi all, I am just looking for a bit of advice, I am looking to start DMing my own game and just want to know where to start and what to do, I know it’s really vague but I’m open to any advice really
The easiest place to start is with a pre-made adventure. There a link here with a few options:
?newdm
- In Dungeons & Dragons, one person serves as the Dungeon Master, the game’s lead storyteller and referee. The DM runs the adventure for the players, who navigate its hazards and decide which paths to explore.
- Learn how to be a Dungeon Master with this YouTube video or D&D Beyond article.
- The Basic Rules are available at no cost and cover everything you need to know to play.
- Decide what kind of campaign you want to run. Here’s a few good options for new DMs.
- Check out #find-a-game to find a group to join.
i am being a player and i am excited to be one and experience dnd as a newbe!
Hi I'm brand new to DnD and really want to learn I know very minimum but trying to understand the dice is really intimidating could someone explain
Sure, where do you want to start?

Honestly just understanding the dice at the moment
What about it are you trying to understand?
Usually, you roll a d20 ( a 20 sided dice) to work out success or failure on an attempt...like trying to persuade someone, or hit them with an axe. Then you add some modifiers ..like the main stat of that check, like strength, and your Proficiency bonus, which increases with level. The DM will know the number you are trying to match or beat, and will judge your success
Just what they do I've looked at so many videos and still I feel like I don't understand such as damage things like that
Other dice tend to be for damage. So a spell might say roll a d8 or 2d6.
Have you read the basic rules? In isolation it won’t make much sense
So you say the 2d6 would I just add up the two numbers
The weapon or spell description will say which dice to use and how many.
Yep
I had a little read about it
Yes, exactly. An attack that does 2d6 damage means roll two six sided dice, and add them up.
Then take that off the hp?
Yes. The DM will usually handle that. Sometimes there might be other effects, like resistance or vulnerability might halve or double the damage, respectively
Oh okay that kinda makes great sense
Glad I could help 👍
I'm planning to make either a druid or paladin kinda character I tried being a DM with a pre made map I just didn't understand too much as it was my first time thank you so much
Probably try playing as a player first before you try DMing when you are barely grasping at the fundamental rules of the game.
No problem. That's what the channel is for. Feel free to ask more questions when they come up
Yeah I'll try being a player it was me and my friends first time there's only three of us you see I'm trying to learn to them explain to them
I purchased the fifth collection I believe
Did you watch the Handbooker Helper tutorial videos?
No I haven't seen them ones
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD-LWHhiseE&list=PL1tiwbzkOjQyr6-gqJ8r29j_rJkR49uDN&index=1
Thank you
I watched the video you sent I honestly can't thank you enough that's explained it so well
It's a series. Try to watch as many as you can.
I definitely will I really appreciate the advice
Bit of a dumb question but
Why do you need melee weapons at all?
Assuming same dmg, isn't ranged always better?
Because if an enemy runs up to you with their axe/sword/dagger, you want to fight them hand-to-hand
Combat often may happen at very short distances.
To hit people with.
And ranged isn't always better no.
Am trying to decide between battle smith and artillerist.
Can't you just fire close range too?
You don't if you aren't going to use them. But it's better to have a dagger and not need it than need a dagger and not have it!
But many classes work best and get their best damage with melee weapons.
You're at disadvantage using ranged and an enemy is right next to you, and ranged weapons often can't reach the same damage as melee weapons.
Without feats you get disadvantage firing at 5ft range
You take a penalty when you fire at the square (5') away from you.
Isn't that canceled out by movement though?
Also, often need to track ammunition
Hello I’m a newbie.
No... if you move away from the enemy standing next to you then you provoke an Opportunity Attack.
If you're right next to them and try to move away to shoot them, they can attack you using an Opportunity Attack.
Hi
Ohh thank you! That helps make my decision so much clearer. We have one melee focused guy and I was wondering if I should be artillery or not
Range is good, but having a back up melee option is helpful.
This is why you want a mix of different roles in a party, from melee martials (barbarians, fighters, paladins, rogues) to ranged attacks (rangers with bows, arcane spellcasters, etc)
Smart enemies will be a mix of melee and range.
some classes, like rogues, can pull off using bonus actions to disengage (stopping Opportunity attacks) running away and shooting, and still get things like sneak attack to deal damage.
@fleet field thank you. We are still reading the rule book in the starter kit. And we are new and trying to get a understanding of how to start D&D.
Yeah we have 1 rouge and like 3 diff variants of magic
I live in the UK and my friends who want to play live in America is there a website with table top boards or pre built ones that anyone recommends
If you are creating a character, I would suggest a martial, because your party will need a tankish character, and martials like fighters are one of the easiest classes to play which is good if you are new to DnD
Oh no I have an artificer but pre-level up I've been considering which subclass to spec into. I've played D&D for a while but it was super homebrew so we never did disadvantage on 5ft rolls or movements
If you want fire power: Artillerist. More of a support kind of person? Then alchemist or battle smith.
If you want an artificer melee/tank, choose armorer
A lot of people get started with Roll20, which has premade licensed modules available for purchase. It's free but some features are subscription only I started there but moved to FoundryVTT, which gave me much more power as a DM, and was a one time purchase.
(Battle smith can work for a tank, but I prefer armorer)
Oh nice thank you just because we are looking for a board that everyone could see
Yeah that's why I wanted to ask lol. Our party is hilariously weak (Cleric, rogue, wizard) with only sorceress as our firepower. I didn't know if it'd be better to have the smith as I could do closeup dmg
Don't worry, wizard will carry damage once at 5th level. One word: Fireball.
If you want fire power, then Artilerist and armorer are best for that, with battle smith 3rd
That sounds like a good combo of characters though!
Nice and balanced
Awesome thank you! I was worried the range disadvantage would be a hindrance as the party only has one melee (rogue)
No problem! The range disadvantage won't matter. (After all, you can stay a healthy distance away)

Hello I’m a newbie also. Welcome
At lv 5 your cleric will be an effective damage dealer as well as support. Spirit guardians is one of the better spells in the game , and spiritual weapon can weaponize its bonus action, concentration free.
But thats getting into the weeds
Oh I'm not planning too too far ahead because we're not even at lvl 3 yet
And this campaign is only weekly yk
But it's really good to know that our cleric will become a big dmg dealer in the future
one level per week or two weeks is fine
Wouldn't it become longer as we go on?
The players control the pacing of the game so that affects whether you use XP or milestone.
My campaign has been going on for 1.5 years. The PCs were level 5 when they started and are only level 7 now.
It'll be a few more (real) months before they hit level 8 (I use the milestone method).
Every table is different
The campaign is planned to go up to level 20 and probably end in 3 years from now.
Oh my god that is commitment
hi, I’ve never played dnd before and i have a very barebones knowledge of the rules and mechanics. whats the best way to quickly learn the rest of the rules and start playing?
that's so cool, i've never been in a year-long campaign
There's a video introducing the basics here
I plan stuff months, if not a year, in advance.

So how do people play D&D online? I've heard of people doing it.
how do you find if someone is willing to dm for a first time player and help them out. i have looked in the looking for players but i don’t want to end up somewhere where they expect all the players to be experts
Would that be something like Tabletop Simulator? I've heard of that
That's one of them. Others include roll20, Fantasy Grounds and Owlbear Rodeo.
Owlbear has a pretty strong advantage in being mobile friendly as well.
Are you looking to exclusively play onlinr or is live ok?
I have found that game stores/AL are more than willing to help
Online. Live would be nice but I don't have the schedule for it
im trying to start a campagin in dnd beyond but idk how to start it
what?
i already created a campaign but theres no tbutton to start the campaign
brah so how do i play then
What would you expect a start button to do, exactly?
im the game master
to play the game?
At its most basic, D&D is just you and your friends telling a story together.
That’s not something that needs a start button.
wait so dnd beyond doesnt have a thing that we can all play and roll dice??
You can roll dice, and those dice results get shared with the rest of the group.
so theres no gameplay at all?
Again, you might need to be more specific about what you’re looking for here.
brah im trying to play a game, like as in a video game with the board and our characters rolling the dice to continue the story
so dnd beyond is just to record and keep track of the stats?
D&D itself is not a video game.
Some groups use a virtual tabletop (VTT) to display a shared map.
There’s an article here that covers the basics of using D&D Beyond:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/754-how-to-play-dungeons-dragons-using-d-d-beyond
so whats the online one then
And one here that covers some popular options for playing online, including a few VTT recommendations:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/750-new-players-guide-how-to-play-d-d-online
I think there is some misunderstanding of what dnd is…
There is also a video game called Dungeons & Dragons Online, if that’s what you were looking for.
https://www.ddo.com/home
But if you are interested in D&D itself, there’s some starter links here that can demonstrate how it works:

Hey everyone, just wanted to thank all that helped provide advice for the duet adventure and my first DM experience
It all went really well 🙂 and I'm having a lot of fun
Finding a party is harder than I thought :/
That's because there are more players than DMs.
Spread your net wide there are other places to look than just this discord
Check out D&D groups on Facebook, Reddit, and Meetup. There are also D&D-related Discord servers that have their own LFG channels.
Also some mobile apps, I could find a great table on one of those once
Roll20 facilitates the process as well. It even has filters for system, if it welcomes new players, etc. Just dont be too picky and you might find something there.
Hi, I tried to get into DnD a few years ago but couldn't and was wondering if there was a party I could join and play with? I just made my first character and was also wanting someone to make sure I did everything right.
Thankyou
In DnD beyond where would I go to get the full character sheet to ss
Ss?
Screen shot
Do Aarakocras need to look like eagles?:0
Go to your character on dndbeyond click the 9 red squares and select view on webpage then click manage and you should see the option I posted above
They can look like any bird you want
That's awesome
The description of Aarakocra is:
Feathers cover their bodies. Their plumage typically denotes membership in a tribe. Males are brightly colored, with feathers of red, orange, or yellow. Females have more subdued colors, usually brown or gray. Their heads complete the avian appearance, being something** like a parrot or eagle** with distinct tribal variations.
There's also the Owlin, who are like Owls, and the Kenku who are like Crows or Ravens
But if you have other ideas, talk to your DM. It's totally up to your group how things are, and a change in how something looks that has no mechanical change is called "Reflavouring" and is almost always going to be accepted.
I see, thank you
That's the beauty of D&D, your creativity can override. One of my players wanted to be a Dexterity-based Ranger, but wanted to use a Broadsword. So, we just gave his character a Rapier, and then called it something else. It still 100% works as a rapier, but he gets to live his Strider/Aragorn fantasy.
:0
Flavour is free.
That sounds so fun
Changing the game mechanics is homebrewing and not something new players should delve into right away.
The first time I tried DND I went directly into homebrewing and it didn't go so well LOL
So I'm trying to only use official stuff rn
They didn’t change mechanics though
That's what he's saying.
Yeah stick to Official material and single classes until you are comfortable. Then branch out.
Rn I'm trying to make a ranger cause I figured it'd be useful and fun in a campaign :D
I'm just giving out advice in general.
hiii im really new to everything but Ive always wanted to play for years now but idk where to actually start? like are there any newbie groups that i could join
Have you read the free Basic Rules yet?
yeah a little
there are plenty of servers on discord which have looking for group sections but i always suggest playing with friends you know outside of dnd because that means youll be more comfy at the table
It's not a bad class, but has a bad reputation. The biggest problem is that the 2014 version of the Ranger had you pick terrain and enemies, and then if that terrain and enemies don't turn up in the campaign, those features are useless.
They published a revised class in a later book called Tasha's Cauldron of Everything which addresses that flaw, and the current playtest for next year's rules (the revision at the 10 year mark), it's framed somewhere in between.
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube. It's easier to digest than reading the rules.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD-LWHhiseE&list=PL1tiwbzkOjQyr6-gqJ8r29j_rJkR49uDN&index=1
all my friends dont like any games lol
Are those the ones I should go for then? :0
Find a DM, talk to them, and see what they advise.
In my game, I advised the player to absolutely take the Tasha's version, because we wouldn't be in the same terrain for long. It worked out great. Then, we as a group have been transitioning to playtest materials, because it's fun and exciting stuff for us.
okii thankss
depends on the group
Rn I'm at 17lb,,, no idea if that's heavy or not since that's not even the unit I use in my day to day life
Up to the DM to discuss with your table. Base inventory rules are Strength x15, Variant rules are more punishing, but some groups don't do anything to track it.
I see
You'll probably have about 150lb as an average character, more if you are investing in strength, less if you are dumping strength.
:0 Oh so my inventory's light rn
i usually just say they can carry everything cause we dont care but other groups play it differently but also it doesnt even come up because my players dump their things in the bank often enough and we have a barbarian who can carry everything
Makes sense lol
hi
hulloh hulloh
not a newcomer but have a newcomer level question that’s been messing with me for a while: is it right that if you have a character with -1 CON and their hit dice is a d8, by lvl 5 they will be averaging 23hp? Something doesn’t feel right about the low hp increase
Yeah, that’s right.
A -1 Con modifier will reduce whatever you roll for HP each level-up, yes.
This is why con is not a dump stat
buy a con amulet
Shush.
Been interested in the game and it's lore and all- Heya guys, newbie here- :,>
and probably a noob who wants a bit of experience-
Welcome!
Thanks-
was confirming i wasn’t going crazy lol, cause a lot guides seem to suggest by that point the average hp would be ~35hp implying an increase by 7 for each level, which isn’t reasonable if constitution isn’t your main stat
It's most likely because it's using averages for the hit dice.
You'd be getting 5 + CON modifier HP each level that way, which tracks with a lot of player characters having 14+ Constitution.
that makes sense, but using most ability score attribute methods such as standard array or point buy, it doesn’t seem likely that the average player would have 14+ con, at least not to begin with
You'd be surprised! But this is veering a bit more into #character-discussion or #optimization territory.
valid, ill move on to #optimization
hello been interested in d&d for a while now and i wanna try to actually play some but i just gotta figure out the basics first i guess ^^

hello, is there any way to play dnd with/against bots, so it's like single player gameplay?
No. There are video games that approximate the DnD rules and take place in the same world, like Baldur's Gate.
But fundamentally, it's not the same as playing DnD, in the same way that racing a car in a simpit is not quite the same as doing it in a real car.
okay thanks for the answer
Still fun though!
Needed to add the channels
Not readlly. That said, if you'd like a solo experience, you can check out:
- D&D Video Games. Something like Baldur's Gate! There's adjacent video games, too, like Dragon's Age that might fit what you're looking for.
- Solo Adventures. These play kind of like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book. You sit down with your character sheet and play through the scenario, rolling dice and make decisions. Here's one example, The Test of High Sorcery: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/418263/The-Test-of-High-Sorcery
alrightt thanks
I think that would be good for learning the mechanics and flow, I could do with something like that
A better way for learning mechanics and flow is just to play DnD against yourself. Take on the role of both the party and the players through a tutorial campaign like Dragon of Stormwreck Isle. It won't help with the RPinteractions, but will help with the mechanics. I did that a lot in the early days so I could anticipate what my players would do when I was later DMing for them.
im new and want to play D&D. Problem is i dont know where and what to play, or what there even is to play

Hi, I got the players handbook and was wondering if there are any other ways to become more familiar with D&D before trying to join a group. I’ve started reading through it but was just curious if there are other things I might need to know that wouldn’t be available in the players handbook.
Make a character
Hey I’m not really a newcomer I’ve done 4 adventures but I’m wondering if there’s a good way to do a online campaign on your phone? Lost all access to online (except cellular of course) when I moved any advice would be helpful
Also I’m wondering if there’s a easy way to find some easy going players and a dm who doesn’t mind some joking around?
Hold your finger down on your post and you can edit it
Ty
You after online groups or irl
Ok cool, Thanks I’ll try that out. Actually I have another question would using d&d beyond for making a character be a good idea or should I just make one on my own?
You will only have the basic rules on dndbeyond unless you’ve bought more content

Anyone know anyway to find a game
I’m trying roll 20 but I don’t think people are accepting me cuz I gave 0 hours

Have a look at the pinned message in this channel
Free basic rules and links to guide videos
Okay, Thank you! How long would you say it takes to just learn to play?
Not long at all. A few hours to get the basics and get moving. It's the kind of game where collectgively there willb e mistakes at first, and then eventually everyone will get better and help each other.
Okay, Thank you. The group that want to play it dont know how to play eithetr so we were bound to make mistakes anyway. Thank you though
I'd recommend playing one of the beginner campaigns then, so you can learn together with a purpose-made tutorial
Lost Mine of Phandelver is free now, and Dragon of Stormwreck Isle is the new Starter Kit adventure
Okay, Thank you.

Hello 👋
Welcome
Thank you 😊
Hello:D
I want to play dnd here but the session is with only voice? I only played dnd with text sessions....
Some folks play with voice, while some do text-only (otherwise known as play-by-post). Some groups have players that do voice while one or two use text. It just depends.
DnD sessions aren't ran here but you can find them in #looking-for-players
I was speaking generally. Cornelia is right that no games are played on this server.
Thank you so much! I am not fluent at English so I miss to read...
If I have time, I will find some games with text only. Thank you so much:D
Besides searching the channels here for play-by-post, check out sites like Role Gate, RPG Crossing, Gamers Plane, and Reddit's r/pbp.
Hey so I‘ve wanted to play dnd for months if not over a year but could never convince my friends to get into dnd, I‘ve also tried to join online communities like this but never got around to join a party because I never know if I can actively attend the certain time a week/month given since I never know my time table - do you think there’s a way for me to just „have a look into“ a campaign so I can just see how it feels to play once?
There are "actual plays" that people stream on Twitch and Youtube.
If you're interested, you can also look for one-shot sessions. They're single sessions, so you wouldn't need to commit to multiple days worth of scheduling.
Look for a local Adventurers league
Ok thank you! I wasn’t sure one-shot sessions were a thing and I‘ll have a look at Adventurers league
There’s also play-by-post, aka asynchronous text-based games. It obviously can’t replicate the dynamics of live play, but it’s another option to research!
hiiii
Okay so idk if this is a stupid question but
How do I encounter a Critial hit
Or is it decided by the DM?
You roll a 20 on a d20
Wouldn't that be considered as a guaranteed hit?
Yes
Yes
You roll twice the damage dice
Ooooh
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#CriticalHits
When you score a critical hit, you get to roll extra dice for the attack's damage against the target. Roll all of the attack's damage dice twice and add them together. Then add any relevant modifiers as normal. To speed up play, you can roll all the damage dice at once.
For example, if you score a critical hit with a dagger, roll 2d4 for the damage, rather than 1d4, and then add your relevant ability modifier. If the attack involves other damage dice, such as from the rogue's Sneak Attack feature, you roll those dice twice as well.
Any advice on creating an Articifer?
What’s the best way to start or understand how to play?
Have you read the basic rules
Um I reading them now
How do my friend and I get started with a DnD campaign? We started with ChatGPT as a DM but that only goes so far lol
Well, you might want to try finding a couple more. DND starts to feel like DND around 3 players, 1 DM. Or you can look for a group in #750812887697588356
Or find groups looking for players in #looking-for-players
Have you read the rules on character creation generally?
artificer can be a complex class because there are several decision points
I have read Tasha`s but to much to take in.
- Learn the basics and enjoy a short adventure with our quick introductory demo.
- The Basic Rules are available at no cost and cover everything you need to know to play.
- For bite-sized video explanations, check out Critical Role's Handbooker Helper series.
- Create a character digitally on D&D Beyond or print a character sheet to fill out by hand.
- Check out #find-a-game to find a group to join.
tashas adds supplemental rules that are technically optional but widely accepted
The Artificer is mostly a spellcaster, but depending on the subclass, can act as a martial, plus subclass features that do stuff
This means theres a double edge sword:
Building an artificer will you explore a wide range of features that use every part of you turn (action, bonud action, reaction, plus maybe another creature you control, a steel defender)
What do i need to start joining dnd games
OTOH, you have to:
- learn to use a weapon, maybe
- learn a spell list, what each does, when to use each as necessary, picking them daily
- learn your subclass feature
- pick infusions
I've made a character for dnd and want to start a campaign with my friends but don't get how levelling up works. I've referred to the pinned message in this channel but don't understand it properly. Can anyone help explain it to me?
When you level up is determined by your DM. There are two common methods:
- XP based. Your DM can assign XP based on creatures you kill or stuff you do; add up the points, when u hit certain thresholds, you level up. This promotes a hack/slash style of gameplay that may not fit each table and may cause party members to level up at diff rates
You need to have read at least the first 4 chapters of the basic rules and that’s about it
- milestone based. The party levels up together at certain key points in the story. This promotes more unified party play
Where can i find these rules
Ah okay thank you. Sorry to bother you but another thing I don't get is what you actually get when you level up. I don't understand what you get or what the point in levelling up is.

I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
Both are linked above.
Levelling up gives you more features
Have you read the rules about character creation, or looked at any of the classes?
You get more hit points, power, skills, and/or spells.
Read the classes to find out what happens at each class level.
As a player levels up, they gain additional features of their class & subclass, as well as additional HP
I've read them but I didn't understand much of it.
What don't you understand?
Okay, Thank you.
Hold on I'll find it
There is a chart that tells you what each level of, say, fighter class gets, as well a descriptions of those features
Every class has it
Classes give you subclasses (think of it as a specialization) at certain points (from 1-3) that give additional features
I can't find the exact thing but it was something mentioning Proficiency.
I think...
Proficiency in something generally means you get your proficiency bonus to rolls made for that thing
There is a section literally called “Fighter Table”
For example proficiency in acrobatics means when you roll an acrobatics check you can add your proficiency bonus to the roll
It tells you features you get as you level
Proficiency in martial weapons means you can add your proficiency bonus to any attack roll made with a martial weapon
Ah okay, Thank you.
Thank you for the advice 🙂
The Proficiency Bonus increases about ever 4 or 5 levels. The Proficiency Bonus applies to weapon attack rolls, spell attack rolls, saving throws, skill rolls, etc that you are proficient in.
How does one DM?
how do I get people to play D&D with?
- In Dungeons & Dragons, one person serves as the Dungeon Master, the game’s lead storyteller and referee. The DM runs the adventure for the players, who navigate its hazards and decide which paths to explore.

Any easy to read resources on magical items
What exactly do you mean by “resources”? Just a list of different magic items?
These are all the ones available in the Basic Rules:

Anybody got an easy guide to being a dungeon master
Maybe the closest thing to an easy guide is Sly Flourish's Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master. He released the previous book for free through Creative Commons: https://slyflourish.com/the_lazy_dungeon_master_cc.html
If you'd rather watch something, I'd recommend Matt Colville's "Running the Game" series on YouTube.
hello. im very new to dnd and i wanna get into a game. any tips on were to start?
Are you looking to convince your friends to play or are you looking to join a game with strangers, whether in person or online?
probably just looking for a game with people online. i dont think any of my irl friends are into this lol
Then you'll probably want to read the rules, which are included in the bot command below.

You don't need to know the rules inside and out, but you should have some idea of what they entail. The Handbooker Helper videos linked there might be easier to digest.
i know the basics of dnd. ive watched dnd games online and i think i get it
Can't hurt to refresh your understanding. But aside from that, brainstorm some character ideas you're willing to be flexible about so they'll fit a given table/setting. Create a character for practice. Then find a game!
i looked at making acharacter sheet and i want to be a magic user of come sort with a sword. what class would i want to be?
eldritch knight, bladesinger, hexblade
AKA fighter, wizard, and warlock, just specific subclasses of those classes.
okay thank you ill try to figure out making a character sheet
Good luck. Folks are generally happy to help with questions as you have them.
thank you sm. ill lyk if i have any questions
By “magic user”, do you specifically mean casting spells?
Or simply a character with some kind of supernatural ability?
ya i was thinking attack spells
Might be a dumb question but how does spell leveling work. I need to know what spell level level ten would be
Where did you hear the term “a 11 ten”? I’m not sure what you mean there.
spell leveling is dependent upon the amount of levels in classes with casting
There are no level 10 spells.
Sorry meant level
what class?
No character level
9 is as high as it goes.
it varies greatly from an eldritch knight to a wizard
9th level spells are the highest level of magic
Regardless of the class, your class table will show the highest level spell slot you have.
That’s the highest level of spell you can cast.
The character is a Cleric
5th.
5th.
They are both full casters so they have the same spell slot progression, so still 5th
perhaps take a look at the class tables yourself though
I was just confused on how spell leveling itself worked
It's 1 for me and my brain is barely functioning
Each spell has a base level. Fireball, for example, is a level 3 spell. As noted above, 9 is as high as it goes.
To cast a spell, a character needs to spend a spell slot of that level or greater.
So Fireball can be cast using a 3rd-level spell slot or anything up to 9th.
How many spell slots a character has and of what levels depends on their class.
The easiest way to find out what a class has is to check their class table.
i cant figure out how to fill out the numbers for my saving throws or skills on my character sheet. it only lets my put in 1 character but i need two because i need to put the + or -.
Are you trying to put two characters on one sheet?
They mean like numerical characters
It should automatically fill out if you’re using dnd beyond
Your class determines which two type of saving throw you are proficient in (you add your Proficient Bonus to).
You add your appropriate modifers to each ability saving throw.

i just made a character. does this look good?
Are you playing in a Dragonlance campaign? Kharolian is a language unique to that setting
Also, I think you may have missed where you pick up your warlock starting equipment, you should be able to do it from the manage inventory button in the inventory section of your sheet
ohh okay thank you. tbh i just picked a random second language
It is strange that you don't have Common as one of your languages, without it you'll have a hard time communicating with anyone
Definitely swap Kharolian for Common
You need more cantrips
you still need to choose cantrips
what are cantrips? sorry im really new
okay thank you
you should choose at least one that does damage as you only have 1 spell slot
okay thank you i chose eldrich blast and mage hand
Pretty good choices
thank you. i wanted at least one spell that could be used out of combat
I would recommend swapping your dexterity and intelligence to improve your ac but thats it
okay ill do that. thank you sm for your help i appreciate it
all g
also is there a place i should fill out what his armor looks like or what hes wearing in general?
In the extras tab you can enter txt descriptions, backstory stuff etc
okay thank you
hey im new to dnd made a pact of the chain warloc can someone explain how spell save DC works. investment of the chain master states "If the familiar forces a creature to make a saving throw, it uses your spell save DC." how do i know what my spell save DC is and when would it apply
8+prof+spell mod so for a lvl 1 character with a charisma of 16 it would be 8+2+3=13
would a imp or pseudodragon use 13 in this case for DC constitution saving throw from their poisons
Yep
how do you calculate proficiency?
Your class table shows what your proficiency bonus is at each level
It’s +2 at first level
ty

Hey
Where can I find adventures to join?
Literally have been roaming the Internet and cant find DMs doing adventure modules
Have you looked in #find-a-game
#find-a-game is just the channel for using the bot to post in other channels. @odd edge if you want to find a DM running a game, you can browse through the posts in #looking-for-players.
It also explains the game finding channels, I think it's a good place to start.
Generally, yes, but also I've see more than a few people not understand how that channel actually works or what its saying, so its probably best to at the very least include an explanation when linking to it
Umm heeey 🙂
Hello! 🙂
Hi ^^
is there a scholar background?
Maybe sage is what you’re looking for?
watching this video where guy builds sherlock holmes and he gives him scholar background
but i can't find that in the handbook
There is a "Cloistered Scholar" background in Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
There is Cloistered Scholar in Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide?
YES THATS THE ONE
thanks

Looking for a game. Not getting many hits on #find-a-game
Any counsel wou d br appreciated
i’ve not personally used it but i’ve heard on roll 20 you can find some good games
When you say you aren't "getting many hits on #find-a-game" Are you actually checking in #looking-for-players, or are you just making your own post and waiting for people to come to you?
Wait
roll20 doesn’t seem to working for me… i joined a campaign that will be using it but it’s not working no matter what i try, can any of you help me please
hello
Ask in #third-party-tools-archive
You'll likely get better help via Roll20's support systems.
bro how the hell do you play this
You read the rules, make some charcters, get with friends, and someone takes the DM role and leads the group on a D&D adventure.

is this a safe place to ask about something d&d related?
Are you new to D&D?
This channel is specifcally for new to D&D folks to ask questions
Well, I'm playing my second character and its a bard/cleric. When I move to cleric I'm able to wear heavy armor, do I have to have a certain strength to wear chainmail or plate?
Yes. You need 13 strength for chain mail, and 15 for splint or plate
So you started as a bard? And you want to multiclass to cleric?
What Yuyu said.
Need the requisite attributes to be able to multiclass.
I have them
I have the ability score, its when I move to cleric im profient in heavy armor. to wear it, do i have to have a certian strength score?
Yes, the numbers I stated
My bad, I missed this. Thank you
No worries 👍
I need to make a change it seems
Heavy Armor. Heavier armor interferes with the wearer's ability to move quickly, stealthily, and freely. If the Armor table shows "Str 13" or "Str 15" in the Strength column for an armor type, the armor reduces the wearer's speed by 10 feet unless the wearer has a Strength score equal to or higher than the listed score.
