Drawings of my party characters from their backstories: Fire genesis Eldritch Night first finding his magic sword, Aetimus Warlock staring into the netherworld, half-elf Druid sailing to the mainland, and wood elf Artificer (my boi) walking away from his homeland after exile. Usually one side of a mountain range is gonna be drier than the other by virtue of air current

How'd you figure out the shoreline?

I've seen a few different methods for that and I'm curious which one you used

There was actually this very neat video about blending terrain types I found.

So I started with staining the entire map a deep green since most of the map is fairly temperate and lush, and then added a sand color on the very edges of the map to simulate shorelines, using a very low opacity brush. Like, 10%.

One method I've seen is dumping beans or macaroni on a flat surface and taking pictures of that, then outlining it and building up the land within

It's good for making like, broken-up shores like you see in eastern Canada

Gotcha. I haven't really done much with broken shorelines. I might, though that might be a bit advanced for me.

I'd have to look at a close up topographical map of areas like that.

very simple to learn

and thanks to rpg maker lots of folks have open source tilesets

I only ended up rolling up a 16 Intell for my Wizard, but Variant Human + 4th Level gave me the opportunity to get both Keen Mind and Observant to get 2 +1's to intell. Level 8 is coming up, and that +2 ASI is so clooose.

No, he didn't even have a bow, he had a arcane focus on his wrist that took the shape of spiritual bow

It was a custom homebrew magic item that had not function other than justify the magic bow

it didn't change anything in functionality

I also had a warlock that had a rapier, but instead of summoning it, there was portal in the scabbard, so it looked like he had just the hild of the weapon, or a dagger

It was like a tardis scabbard

I really like doing useless items that just add to the lore and to roleplay

because she bonded a pact with it by getting stabbed in the chest when her parents got ambushed by a group of thugs looking for it

Copy and pasted some legal looking mumbo jumbo, dialed the font way down low, picked a hard to read, handwriting like typeface and then printed it on coffee stained paper

I use this map for almost every RPG, this is a mix of europe and north america, the "equator" line would be right under where the desert line starts, south there is an entire continent based on a mix between the caribean, south america and the region around australia and new zealand

and east there is an Asia like continent, mix between China, Japan and Russia

I haven't developed them too much but it was heavily inspired by game of thrones

there is even a wall between the south and north but it is very different from the one in GOT

The southeast is the human empire, magic is heavily regulated, you need a license to pratice magic legally and you mustn ot brandish it out in public, it is similar to how firearms work in the US

It is ran by 3 main empires

It depends on which empire

to the west magic is more common, to the east it is frowned uppon

cause to the far west it is the empire of elfs, tieflings and most non human races

but Tieflings and Elfs are the ones who run

there is a big empire with the high table that is ran by 5 elfs, 2 tieflings, 1 gnome, 1 halfling and one half elf

there is also the Magic Federation, they are resposible for the Institution of Magic and Spellcasting, basically wizard academy, they also are the ones responsible for enforcing laws regarding magic on the human empire

Basically the humans and elfs have an agreement that the humans can keep their trade routes as long as they limit the magic use

and the federation is responsible for enforcing it

each human empire has one representative of the Magic Federation and the High Table, it is mostly to keep relations between the humans and the non humans

The north is where most mines are from, there are plenty of dwarves, orcs, half orcs so they supply the south with materials while the south supplies the north with food

The dwarves are responsible for that trade, they mine and sell to the other empires

they also make some of the best weapons and tools on the empire and hold the biggest library on the continent, under the mountains

It's supposed to be a regular animal. Think of a weird combo between a deer and a dog so it's pretty agile, has a good sense of hearing and smell, it can communicate telepathically with others
