So recently one of my close cousins got admitted into the University of Hong Kong and he said it's #16 or smth in the world ranking. Initially, I had no plans for HK but after hearing the news that he got a 100% scholarship on tuition fees I might consider HK he said that he only has to pay Living costs right now but apparently, he got an internship as soon as he joined there. He also told me that HK is way cheaper than other countries like European countries, the USA, Australia, etc. I did ask him a lot of stuff but still, I want others' opinions on this, do y'all think HK is a good choice?
#is HK a nice place to study?

My brother currently lives in Hong Kong. He got a 100% scholarship at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I went recently to visit him and it’s like a very fast life and to be honest kind of expensive too according to the way you earn to be honest I don’t know how to explain it. I mean, it depends on how much you earn and where you live and stuff but it’s kind of expensive too so you have to like do a lot of budgeting but obviously like it’s not expensive if you don’t spend it on useless stuff if you get what I mean? I think Hong Kong is a good choice for those who like to live independently but also like want to live a fast life and the commute is usually by train and few people have cars so the commute is like definitely public transport. But I honestly think it’s a really nice place to live at and it has a lot of advancements and like there’s many nice things over there. Also please don’t mind the punctuation because I’m literally using the voice thing so it’s not punctuating anything.
I'm sure the unis are great
But Hong Kong is one of the most expensive cities to live in
Well, I don't mind a fast-paced life and well obviously it does depend on what I want to ask do you get internships/Jobs easily as soon as you join or it was just pure luck for my cousin? Also, I don't want to settle in HK because well yes. I want to settle in the UK considering that is it still a good choice?
But it is cheaper than other countries like the UK, the US, ausi etc
Depends
Oh ausi is definitely more expensive, 4 dollars for a bottle of water is crazyy
how
Yeah thats why i think HK is cheaper and got good unis
Hong Kong is currently rated the most expensive city in the world for cost of living
There's no Australian cities in the top 50
However if you're gonna look at it only from the perspective of rent then Sydney is higher on the list
But that's just Sydney
There are other cities
That are cheaper
_ _
Also it's Aus not ausi
Or Aussie if you're talking about the Australian people
Hongkong might be expensive but you also earn exactly in that currency, so it’s normal for them.
Well my brother wanted to move too but i think it’s been about 10 years since he started living there. It takes a while to earn citizenship if that’s what you want before moving. Also my brother got an internship offer in i think his last year of uni (4th year) and then he got his job in the same company.
Yep
Oh damn, that's crazy I thought HK would be one of the cheapest out there anyway what about the internships? As I said earlier, my cousin got it as soon he got admission there is that always the case? Or is it a long process and shi?
so it depends on luck? Like the internship?
I'm not sure about internships in HK
Plus I don't think I would ever want to settle in HK so I am not there for citizenship just to studies
But in Australia, people apply for internships in their second last year, and they do it over the summer break
Oh, so for the first year, your family gotta send you all the money?
In Sydney, you can work a maximum of 48 hours a fortnight
As an international student
And how much do I get per hour? Estimatedm
Anywhere between $24-$30
Ah, ok thanks
Gave +1 rep to oriole1906!
hmmmmmmmmmmm
heard of hong kong yes
the universities there are topo notch but very very very competitive
but it is worth a try to just apply
but one thing i have realised while in university is ranking doesnt count for shit 😭
so better to look into the course you are studying and see the facilities for that hahaha
cause in my uni physics faculty is amazing but my friend had to transfer out because his com sci eng course was shittttt like very bad in terms of profs and also rating by previous students
so check these out more than the you know "rank" of a uni 😭
What uni do you go to?
Ranking does count a major part tbh, but if you wanna be sure abt that and want to verify might as well visit on open day, uni of Sydney had their open day few days back too, it was overpriced af.......4$ a 250 ml water.....
At least the campus is cool
That is crazy like there is a possibility but I don't personally but I will mostly not know anyone there or someone who is studying at that Uni so how am I supposed to “judge”
Cuz I will just assume
That if the ranking is good
Then the prof must be good too
Yes exactly these visits are extremely expensive 😭
