Hey guys, I'm busy deciding to apply for Actuarial Science or Mechanical Engineering. Is there anybody who could give me some advice/insight on these topics?

Hi man, I've already looked at all of these. I've also job shadowed actuarial science, I was just hoping that someone here might have had some additional info I never thought of/knew before.

I'm going to have a chat with someone who is currently getting their PhD in Data statistics or Statistics (I can't remember) just to find out a bit more about the Stats that you do in Uni. I've been told by countless people that the stats you do in uni is nothing compared to High school stats. I didn't personally take stats in AS level, but I didn't enjoy the silly questions with probability - which is mainly why I didn't take it. I did P1 and P2 Pure maths and absolutely loved it! I could spend a quarter of the amount of time in maths rather than in physics or chemistry and still have the same results. Not that I was bad at Chem, Phy, or Maths, just that I found that I was able to work quicker in maths. So that's why I'm just sort of going to ask him what stats is actually covered to try and get a feel whether it'd be for me or not.

Otherwise, everything for Act Sci looks good. It's got brilliant job security, the pay is good, the country I'm in has one of the highest standards for obtaining your qualifications to become a fully qualified actuary (so it would be relatively easy to go overseas after I have gotten those qualifications). I also love the application of maths, I hated learning those pointless chemical formulae in Chem with no actual application, just sort of memorise this, memorise that.
