Possible new bot feature

I have noticed that quite a few past paper questions are repeatedly asked, sometimes multiple times within the same day. Some of these questions, especially in A Levels, tend to have really lengthy workings.

Since the ZNotes bot is used quite often here for a variety of things, here's a new functionality for it that I'm proposing:

Make a "past paper question working" command, which would have arguments for syllabus code, year, paper, variant, and question number. The output would be a solution or explanation or both, for that particular question. These solutions/explanations may either be devised by a group of volunteers, for each subject, or the data may be collected from the study channels themselves, with the permission of the original poster.

This would reduce the need for people to ask others simply for their working. If they still require further explanation from another person after going through the saved solution, they may ask in the channel. And besides, this would somewhat create a good collection of quality answers which I believe would not be found elsewhere. And the explanation part would especially be great for MCQs, as those only have an answer provided in the marking schemes, and even the ER doesn't elaborate on every MCQ, making understanding some of them quite difficult.

Yes, this sounds like a bit of an uphill task ||sorry bot developers||, but in the long run, I feel the effort would definitely be worth it!

first of all, there are hella questions (like a lot) and the only way i see this working is you use involve some kinda AI which we could to be honest but even then the accuracy would need to be looked at manually (to associate answers with questions after combing the message history of every single subject channel), and then we'd need a place to store all this (which we do, but theres potentially thousands of questions and workings, probs even in image format)

good suggestion, and its not impossible to make it, just doesnt look very useful to me if we cant guarantee consistency to a considerable degree at least

we would have a lot of ppl checking for existing solutions to very specific qs and most of the time it wont return anything

I had an approve/deny system in mind tbf, where a certain group of people moderate the quality of the content being added. Also, max 1-2 responses only, if a new response seems better than the currently added one, it'll just replace it. And yes, I did think that they'd be in image format, which might put a bit of a load on the bot's resources...

Fair enough, but could be a possible option in the long term if there were to be a small team dedicated for this purpose, which is probably unlikely right now.

I think the problem more so will be remembering the reference for the people providing answers

In the time it takes to search up the question, usually we can solve the query too

I think a better way would be to implement this in the znotes website to integrate with the subject specific mcq feature

They don't need to remember, they can simply ask the person who posted the question. Also, the person themselves can check that particular question without having to ask anyone.

And this can be managed by contributors, and all the CIE questions can be migrated to the mcq form so it can help in student learning

The latter part will require AI, something I don't think they have the resources to invest in the APIs for

Oh, and an alternate solution I thought of before but dismissed later was for people to write the reference of their question alongside the question itself, so that a person having trouble with it can just search for it before asking.

Cuz people tell the reference of a q in infinite number of ways and for the bot to recognize that... Yeah it's gonna be tough
Plus 99% of the questions asked anyways do not have the reference, so always asking for the reference of the q will be slow (even if it's a rule people don't normally follow rules)

think of the dumbest person you know, half that iq, thats what you should target a software being made for

if there are slash command fields, its probably not gonna be a problem in validating, but the slow process itself will make people not want to input the stuff imo, but i might be wrong

i think rove but on znotes with explanations would be great

and maybe make an app from that cuz rove is outdated asf

Slash speed is lightning fast now btw, don't know when's the last time you've used it.

oh no im not talking about the backend and all, that i know. its just, considering the only caption with questions the majority of the times is less than 5 words.... i dont think people will wanna type in the entire reference "cuz its slow"

That would be amazing but not sure if the team has someone that is both capable + has the time and resources.

i think the app and the answers are fairly possible within some time, but the explanations will be a problem, for which contributors + interns would be great
