I just got back to my school since my visa didn't make it for my uni. I came out of that school having completed 4 AS levels all A (Physics, Math, Chemistry, Psychology). I thought that was enough and that I could just go to my uni that didn't require AS levels in the first place. But since I'm back and I'm in danger of falling into a gap year. I checked out other unis to see if I could apply. I realized that there's not really many I could apply to without A-levels. So I deecided to go back to school and get some A-levels. Already being 2 months behind I decided to only take 2 A-levels (Physics and Maths) and another AS level (Computer Science).

Now this isn't 3 A-levels like the standard for most unis and everything I've research thus far says that I'm pretty much screwed and I can't really make it to most unis, especially the prestigious ones. But I'm really aiming high this year and my teachers feel that I could do it. I'm hoping to get a really high grade for my 3 subjects anyway.

Now my questions, with 4 A grades for my AS levels and the hopes that I get 2 A*s with Physics and Maths A-level and another A for my Computer Science AS this year, am I still screwed in terms of getting into prestigious unis cuz I only have 2 A-levels + 5 AS levels, instead of 3 A-levels

How do I get myself to focus while studying?

Even when I've actually sat down to read, my mind just wanders elsewhere

put away phones and tablets and any distractions and start implementing small chunks of time where u study and focus at ur task. So lets say u set a goal of reading a certain topic in a book. U say to urself ok for the next 30 mins i shall only read this and do nothing else just focus on this , then take a 5-10 min break. Keep repeating this and each day try to add 5-10 mins more until u reach like 50mins or something. Ideally u’d wanna study 50mins then 10min break any more i feel like is overkill

u need to have some level of willpower and discipline tho

cant just be like “oh i wanna study more but its too much work” nah u need to want to study more

put up small term achievable goals to boost motivation which in turn boosts focus

This is what i do: when i get distracted, i remind myself what my goal is. I would have pasted a sticky note somewhere where it is visible. There are days where i can't bring myself to concentrate so, i have to push myself to study wether i like it or not. I keep my phone on silent, sometimes listen to songs to keep the pace going when i study(some ppl prefer to listen to songs and some don't. it depends) I study in study servers so i can find some motivation in studying by seeing others study(some ppl prefer some company) or i have some study with me live yt videos going in the background in case no one joins me to study.

Practical advice (trigger warning):
||Worrying is a pointless waste of mental energy. Stop overthinking, it only makes things worse.

I don't know how you studied, your method, the hours you put in, how much focus you had etc.

Only you know that, so figure that out.
Be honest with yourself and figure out what you did wrong. You don't have to be certain about every move, just pin down what you think contributed to you not achieving your desired grades.

Once you have it laid out, the mistakes you made, the next part is easy. Don't repeat them again, learn from your mistakes.

Now, the rest is easy really. You've already taken a test so you have a feel for the examination therefore you know how to prepare and all that technical stuff.

I'll leave that to you, there's loads of guides on how to get high scores on SAT's.

However, my final word of advice, which is very important and helped me achieve basically all of my top grades ever.

Develop your focus
Take 5-15 minute strict breaks after each study session of 1hour - 30 minutes with NO distractions (no phones, no screentime basically and don't try to use your brain (e.g. playing a round of chess))

The jump from IGs to A Levels is very huge as the subjects you're studying become more condensed, but don't worry too much about it, just make sure your notes are up to date every week and you'll be fine. For content heavy subjects, such as bio, it's super important to revise throughout the year, since there's a lot to remember!

Yeah that happens. The jump is big but since u got 6 A* in IGCSE, you definitely have the opportunity to get all A* and As in A levels. The first few days can be hard but dw because at this point, most schools start to make a transition to IG and AS and it only lasts like around a week or so. Just keep working hard and eventually u will overcome the jump before the final exams happens.

Tbh most of the exam doesn’t even have much on statistics itself. Most of the exam is based around probability questions and also permutations and combinations play a major part in an exam too.
