Is a week enough because I have to give the SAT in dec ?
So my last A2 exam is on 7th nov and I am thinking of giving the IELTS somewhere in mid nov and then got to prep for SAT
@white sun Well there are people that can read and write in English but cant converse for shit; so I guess it's okay?
@white sun For next year you have to apply now
same with NZ
I apply now for the 2020 Semester
@white sun are you still planning on studying in UOA?
@white sun possible
yep
Since I'm planning to study abroad (for now plan A UK, plan B Netherlands) I noticed that they all have a limit amount of hours for part time jobs per week. However, if I want to do an inconsistent freelance work: one example would be making art commisions per month, would that need to be counted for the part time job hours or will it not count?
I mean technically you're working on your own, you're in control of the money, and you might not make much so I'd assume that it won't count in the part time job hours and I'd hope that it won't because I really want to do extra work to have extra savings/just in case I don't have a part time job. But I don't want to get into legal trouble just in case
I don't think in The Netherlands freelance work counts as part time
my info may be outdated since last time I checked on IND/Rijksoverheid was in May
for the UK, I have no idea
@frozen swan in the UK, afaik it only counts if your client is a British firm
Or if you are legally an independent contractor as opposed to an employee
yes that means diligently drawing to make a popular account for drawing so I can do commission in the future will be worth it
Does anyone know how hard it would be for me to get into NTU
Like I can get 2A* for Maths and Physics
2A maybe for Bio and Chem
I'm planning on computer science
because based on online research seems to be all 3A* minimum
Really stressing me out
@barren plover NTU?
Nanyang technological university
Huh cool
What do you think about eindhoven
im taking physics, further math, economics and we are required to do spanish. What courses could i do and what are good careers to go into?
@heady wraith um well it's really up to your intrests but with physics and math you can do engineering or do a science degree in aerospace or in something to do with space. Again completely up to your own intrests and what you wanna do but since your not doing all the sciences, it limits your scope
@slow widget TU/e, meh. for engineering, go to TU delft instead, for biology related, go to WUR
but really in all honesty I'm not particularly fond of the thought of living in north-brabant lmao
unrelated: leiden university doesn't really reply to your emails while TU delft does
Hi people, I'm just having a question about my subject choices so if anyone can offer me a recommendation I would be very much glad
Are there lots of overlaps between IGCSE and A Level (as a whole) Accounting and Economics??
I'm not taking IGCSE right now tbh but I will take A Level next year, it's a bit hard for me to choose between these two. I haven't yet had experiences with Accounting since my current school doesn't offer it but I am taking Economics which I very much enjoy.
If I'm doing a degree in Business Analytics and Data Analytics which should I take, (obviously I have included Mathematics and Computer Science which are more facilitating, but I am also interested in the fields of finance and business)
@proper obsidian okay then. let me guide you through subject choices for business. Now if your wanting to do a degree in business that specialists in Data and Business Analytics, then doing a A level subject in Economics especially will be every useful when you study. Id also look at Business studies as its general layout but it cover some very important facts that will help your out. it really depends also on the req of the uni. Over here Auckland Uni basc ask you to do a bunch of subjects from tables and doing business is optional and a great boost to your Uni work. Im planning on doing a degree in innovation and entreprenuership and management
@wet dune OH MY GOD I'M FROM NZ TOO, but why is your name USA
I'm going to Uni of Auckland as well (but I really wish I could study in the UK it's just that my parents cannot afford the high tuition fees)
I'm actually planning to do Bachelor of Engineering conjoints w/ Bachelor of Commerce in Software Engineering and Business Analytics before doing a Master in Data Analytics and another Master in BA
So there are some requirements for entrance into my bachelor degree:
- NCEA L3 Physics (or A Level Physics) which I have studied through Te Kura (the online school). I will take those NCEA papers in the upcoming NZQA exams so I'm not doing AL Physics.
- A Level Mathematics which I am taking the subject
- University Entrance and literacy/numeracy requirements which I am yet to achieve
- So eventually I have space for 3 other subjects. English Language is compulsory, so I have 2 left. One for Computer Science, and one for Economics/Accounting which I quite don't know what to choose, it's not a requirement that I take Economics or Accounting but I know it's good to have and I want to do them
but hey, thanks!
@proper obsidian whoa whoa whoa calm it down there. Your doing a bacheolr of engineering with a cojoint with business in analytics? You've been to analytics course? I haven't seen a analytics course at auckalnd uni lmao
I'm from northland
I'm from Wellington, I'm attending a normal high school here but I will move to Auckland next year with my family and will attend a school which offers A Level
I don't think there is a specific bachelor for Business Analytics
I don't know how courses in UoA work tho, don't they use a major/minor system etc? Victoria uses it and I think we can combine up to two majors and 1 minor for Bach of Commerce/Science
@proper obsidian it's a mainly just majors
So technically you'd be a cojoint of software engineering and business analytics
Yea which is quite heavy but I hope I'll manage to get through
It's so weird that they offer analytics cause analytics is weird as hell
You'd also need 330 points
@proper obsidian how many points you got currently?
Oh you mean the ucas tariff score
Yeah
I'm still in NCEA L1 just planning for next year, but it is expected I got Excellence in all my 6 subjects this year after the exam and I hope I have about 107 Excellence credits
Oh lol you need like 330 UCAS points for that conjoined progammes which is like 2-3A and some B's
If your coming from NCEA to Cambridge your mot gonna have a fun time
It requires alot of afterschool study
Wait is it that hard to get A in Cambridge, is A comparable to Excellence
@proper obsidian basc A levels is Uni level one
As is year 13 NCEA
A levels is scholarship
My lord
I'm planning to stock up some IGCSE and AS Maths paper 1 and 5 this school holiday
I'm currently on 110 without maths and I need 190 for business and 240 for cojoint with law
oh, good luck!!
So about 80 points from my three subject or 130 extra for cojoint lmao. I've got A2 physics tmmrw
If you know Macleans College. I'm going to that school
@proper obsidian nah I dont. I'm moving down to Auckland tho for uni
So I'm going to be around if you need help with AS levels
oh thanks!!!
@proper obsidian I'd reccomend you take Marine Sceince for the points and business studies and psych for the lhat points
The more points the better
Are those easier subjects
Don't think my school has Marine Science
It's so nice of you that you help me with this. And I feel lucky I met someone coming from NZ as well.
@proper obsidian you can easily take it as a correspondent cause its really nice and simple subject
Yeah they are the easier subjects
Okay thanks!
I'll try and persuade my school to let me take it without studying
But thanks for the advice!!!
np
i didnt take Geo in AS and A level
thanks!! But if the requirement is that I pass AL Mathematics and Physics, and let's say I satisfy them, and for 3 other AL subjects that I achieve higher that can together combine into the tariff score 330 will it work like that. I mean do you think I am required to count AL Mathematics and Physics in my tariff score, or do they just use my best three units
soo. Im doing A levels and want to pursue Computer Science as my major. My A2 subjects are Math, CS, IT, Economics. My main issue is my weakness in mathematics. Most universities require a minimum B in math but I'm currently achieving like a low C. Its not like im bad at math, its just that I take time to understand it. Even though im fighting for a predicted B with my teachers, Im worried what will happen if I dont get a B in my final grade. I dont know what to keep as my backup incase my grades go south. Im planning to apply to Europe. Also I would say I have a good resume with regards to CS, but apparently I just need math for applying, not even CS itself as a subject.
@Sanil#2634 okay so what are the predictions for the rest of your subjects?
@reef dew cause I'd think that if you've got the points, you should consider nz as we have lower math requirements and we still have reputable programs
Im getting easily an A in CS and IT hopefully, and as for eco I'll be probably getting a C, im not that great at that
hmm im not sure, let me check on their website and calculate
Cause a A at A2 comp science is a 100 UCAS Points @reef dew
I mean 120
But that's averaged with AS
Which equivalent is 60 points, now if you get a A star in A2 Comp Science, then were cooking cause that would give you and extra 10 points, giving ya about 70 in A2 and 60 In AS, assuming you got a A in AS
yeah I got A in AS for CS and IT
Aight cool
So that already gives you UE
Which is university entrance in NZ
As long as you got a D in AS english and a B in IG maths
but the issue is also the location, I mentioned Europe because my parents dont want me to go too far. I reside in India, so NZ will be far
I have an A in IG Math
Ive taken AS General English and did it this session, so yet to know
our school does not provide A level english, so we do AS english over the course of 2 years
I should be able to get a D xD
Oh lol, it's pretty difficult for AS english
I mean I'm more of a business person myself lol
yea but I took general english, not sure about the boundaries for those tho
I did AS Eng in a year and got a D with a couple percentage to spare lol
got an A in IG English too if that helps
Not really lol
lol
Cause I got a A star in english lit
dayum
wew
but yea, youre talking about minimum requirements for the uni as a whole
for cs its a whole new ballgame with math
@reef dew yeah I'd reckon look at UOA, university of Auckland website
And there requirements for comp science
It's the best uni in the country
ohh okay gotcha
Also bro @reef dew I have indian parents aswell, so travelling to and from india is no biggie
and damn, 29hrs overall for me to travel to NZ yikes
Lol, that's if you fly cheaply
well ofcourse, im a student, I wont fly expensive lol
If you take a break at Singapore you should have less hours
I mean my family live in Bangalore @reef dew
thank you so much
No worries
Yeah my grand parents are from chennai
My parents are part tamil and part kannada
So we travel to india once every couple of years
Uh I plan for uoa
I have my last exam on tuesday
for A levels?
Yeah
I've almost finished a levels and gonna study innovation and entrepreneurship and management at the business school
March
First semester
But it can start in Jan for summer
Nah that's like the end of the second semester lmao
lol
Yeah
LOL dude said jan is summer
Dude is oceania nibba
Dudes probably an activist for some weird shit
eh diff places diff ways of saying stuff i guess
@stone root I am a Oceania nibba. And no I'm not a activist lol, I'm part of the future.
Right now, I'm applying to a school. But I don't know which option to choose for my IGCSE grades. Which one should I choose?
@versed iron uh if you did final year of IGSCE's I'd think you'd choose advanced
I did my IG's during my first two years of high school. Should I still choose advanced?
@versed iron if you did the advanced IGCSE then sure
Like if your gonna go to AS and A levels next year then pick advanced as what you have done
Hey guys, anyone here planning to go into hospatility?
Guys I have a quick question how do people apply to scholarship abroad? Like do I message a college or how does this work, Iโm like really confused about this stuff and I need to like get on it
i will apply to MIT
@sour flame there should be an option in the application
You can negotiate after you receive an offer
When should I start applying if I want a scholarship?
About now if you're applying this year
anyone over here interested in becoming a therapist?
what subjects are you majoring in
@tired narwhal it depends on what kind of therapist tho, there is many kinds of them, and the ones I know so far is physiotherapy and psychology-related therapy. And in some certain countries, sometimes universities aren't even needed to become one, but in my country's case that's because some people who does religious-sort of rituals are associated with the name therapist too
yO PEOPLE
I need some help
I want to apply for a business management degree but I am not much aware about which university will be the best
can someone suggest
Havrard
@opaque igloo where you from?
If your in the UK, the London Business School is the best
It's also recognized as the best in the world in some fields
What are the requirements for London business school??
@polar copper I dunno, I've been looking at it for masters tho
and from what I've heard
the admissions of LSE is just plain weird
unrelated but I have an example of what not to do
some guy from another school, decided to put "London School of Economics, please accept me!" as her concluding sentence in her UCAS ps
@frozen swan have you applied to uni yet?
@shadow tree yup
-0.5/5 currently
1 rejection post interview, 1 interview invitation
hence the -0.5
and the rest I haven't heard from them yet
Ooft oo where'd you apply?
@frozen swan good luck for the interviews tho! I had only one but they said it wouldn't make a difference to my offer
congrats ^^
Thenkuuu
somehow I got through that hell of writing a personal statement
@frozen swan dayumnnn u got dis!!! hope u get dat oxford interview ๐ช
Oooh omg good luckkkk๐ ๐ ๐ช
โญ
From everyone here like combined
I hope ya do amazing
I hope you do amazing as well @shadow tree
Thanks sis
is jeel good guys
AYe. Im kinda into private equity and stuff (i have my intrests there) Would it help if i take Business management or Economics in IB?
BM HL + Econ HL = Mega stronks and yeh ez to get a solid 7
econ is ez
econometrics is tough
I am in the Math SL gang now
35

<@&513751591208091688>
@opaque igloo business really is big stonks
yeah lmao
it is indeed
Serious Question.
What be the best major for a lazy creative individual such as myself?
Dont confuse creativity with art though, i cant stand art
Did anyone get an offer from HKUST
I just got my CIE A Level results
3A 1A*
Is it possible for me to get into NUS or NTU comptuer science
Class?
12th Grade
Computer Science?
Is there only 1 kind of math in A levels?
NUS is very competitive
^^
oof
But I'm a returning singaporean
that might help
Yeah
if there's a quota or sth idk
I'm already enlisted
Does anyone know the average time universities at UK need to reply to applications, applied back in early December have received acknowledments from all but have corresponded with only one, about information requests and mailed them my predicted grades, still waiting for something from the other 4
@sacred mural there's a very large range, most universities accept on a rolling basis
one of my choices gave me an offer within 2 days, another took 6 months before rejecting me
but then i applied in november, so might be a bit different for you
a month seems reasonable
Waiting for a reply from Imperial is just too....
what are your choices?
Leeds, bristol, warwick imperial and one more i dont remember....
Well, my teachers and my counselor were kind of forcing me to take computer science, but I want work on hardware components and processor design, and i have already begun learning java, so i applied for electronics and something something
Too many different names for a single course for every diff uni
true
Generally computer engineering
i'm doing computer science at leeds actually
Whoa!!!!
Was fishing in a pool and caught a shark
but coudn't meet the maths condition
Hmmm
wanted an A in math, got a B :/
U got any unconditional offers(highly unlikely(
nope
What were your A level scores?
they don't give those unless the uni is shit or you are god
๐
Physics A, Chem A, Maths B, Computer Science A*
how long have you been waiting?
I think it has been 4 weeks eliminating the christmas holidays
sure man go ahead
i'd say wait a couple more months, then assume you've been rejected
yay me
I've heard a reply from imperial back in october
and it's drum rolls a rejection letter!
imperial usually takes much longer
a friend of mine applied for bioengineering according to the oxbridge deadlines
and her interview for imperial is scheduled in february
@sacred mural
Oooo
Oof man
Good luck to her tho!!
What else have you got left to hear from sis? @frozen swan
got rejected by durham due to age issues
waiting for oxford decisions released tmr
and I'm not giving a shite about ucl
:o gooood luckk <3
Agee- whattt
glll with oxford decisions!!!
btw imperial and durham rlly missed out lmao, u're like a chemistry god
guys
if someone gets E for all 4 subjects
and he gets A+ for all subjects in A2
what will the average be?
oof flex
Hi can someone tell me good universities with good employability ranking for Business and Management course
I am really confused
LSE?
@opaque igloo what was your sat score
1250 rip
Do you think A* A* B is good enough for looking into top universities also with a good sat score
for computer science
@turbid mica depends on where you're applying, I'm guessing you mean America because you mentioned SAT scores. If your ECs (extracurriculars) and your essays are good too then you'll be fine for the most part, but it really depends on how competitive the unis you're applying to are
whats the B in tho? cuz it might make things more difficult if its in math or sth
Its computer science
@trail owl my ecas don't really shine so i don't think of applying to really competitive unis like the ivies or mit for my course. Maybe just below them i guess
@shadow tree A* in physics A in maths B in computer
CS in general is pretty competitive usually, and the T100 unis are all pretty pushy. The one big factor that could play a part in your admission beyond all the stuff I mentioned would be your nationality and whether or not you need Financial Aid. Needing financial aid usually puts you in a slightly disadvantageous position but it doesn't factor in too much as an international student.
@turbid mica
@turbid mica my advice, I think it's not good enough
CS is gonna be the first subject they look at so a B will make your app much less strong, unless you have an AMAZING personal statement, even in which case it's slim
exactly
even if you're aiming just below them for example like the UC system, your chances are pretty low
yeah i guess i'll retake CS hopefully get an A this time
Is this for US or U.K. Unis?
Because I think that changes the entire perspective. If itโs the US, itโs significantly easier to get in with the B (by phrasing your common app essay etc. better) compared to the U.K.
Guys whatโs an interesting course that is finance related and has good future prospects?
So far Iโm fine with all the options available but having a hard time finalising what I want to do
Actuarial science seemed too data focused for me
Oh okay
I donโt mind data
But their jobs didnโt seem that interesting and the amount of maths they have to do put me off aswell
Oh okay
I see
Well i dnt hv any more suggestions atm but wishing u all the very best w ur choice
๐
What about accounting and finance?
Yeah thatโs the main one
However Iโm doing accounts for alevels and while itโs easy for me I donโt find much enjoyment init
Ohh right, you could do a BBA as well, it has finance aspects in it
Has anyone done banking ? Or know anyone who has ?
Business law and taxation seems like a fun challenge
Yeah I know someone who's done banking
Hmm that seems a bit too out of my way but probably the most interesting choice
Will keep that in mind
Yeahh you could then go on to do a masters in banking and finance so you have a broad knowledge beforehand, and then can decide to specialise.
so... im in need of career advice :))
go ahead @slow depot what is it?
yeah
im probably gonna do a science career and considered biotech/food science but now im not so sure
why tho?
what is it that you generally have interest in?
and you want to do something related to that?
yep, i lowkey hate physics but i might be interested in engineering in the future (chances=0)
sometimes "what the heart wants" is difficult to find
agreed
we're teens not wise old men
true
so what is it that you can tolerate doing for the rest of your life?
okay so let me tell you my story...
okie
I was interested in Engineering till grade 11th starting
oooooo
but what I was getting marks in and I was able to do easily was Business
Then my interest went towards business cuz I realised that technology and engineering can be integrated into business
I mean why not
if you wanna make money then you gotta work with money
@slow depot what do you think of pharma?
ig med is out
dont u jz prescribe meds
but it is too long course
you can work in R&D
I mean have you thought about going into neuroscience?
haha
do you enjoy ogranic chem?
and biomed hmmm, i kinda told myself i wouldnt do anything med but idk
what do u do in tht
same sis same
Chem is so tough
biomed aint med tho
I regret taking Chem
but u modify meds and stuff
HL
@opaque igloo why haha
you could be developing new prosthetic materials
Cuz that is the only subject I am failing in
ahahaha
but that is really unpredictable
ah oki
do you have something related to business
same
accountancy is pretty mundane
I will be a futurist and an entrepreneur
id say look up some stuff in bio and chem, new articles, jobs etc
see what makes you O.O
I mean there is a lot of scope in biomed but you don't know how long will it take to actually develop something new
research takes time and money
what exactly do u do in r&d
and you need to be willing to do a masters min
not necessarily
hahahaha
for example im going into BSc phy n math next year
3 yrs bachelors
@shadow tree How old are you? if you don't mind me asking
i'll be 18 when i join
she has high intellect
but ik ppl who have
i'm doing bachelors at 17
exactly
how do you habe such creepy timing tho
so basically im talking to prodigies now
I mean I will join uni when I am 18
@marsh dagger is the prodigy here not me
but how did he do that in 17 years?
idek why i joined sch early tho ahahaha
or on time
@opaque igloo i skipped a grade
from 2nd i went to 4th
or that for the smart kids
power move
i was given the option to
u can keep up?
at that age its not hard
but n e ways @slow depot basically find sth in science that figuratively turns you on
and work on that
lmao
@shadow tree sexual innuendo hmmm ๐
I shall send my list
uh havent planned tht yet hahaha
hit list
@opaque igloo no list in sight
damn organized boi
depending on my SAT score
yeah obviously
6
why are you taking AL phy tho? if you said you hate it so much?
trust me 4 AL isnt fun ;-;
bcz like i said, i might be interested in engineering although chances are almost 0
if i take 3 sci i have wider range of career
oh damn
true
thats why i did all 4 too
either way dont drop math
you'll hate A2 phy if you do
and in a general sense, math is just much more helpful in other fields as well
lol math is compulsory in IB
Math is everywhere
almost everything needs some kind of maths
sed
Math ruined everything
haih
Seriously tho
Do take maths
What we perceive as normal bio/chem needs plenty of stats
And the abnormal ones needs plenty of hardcore maths
I did some stuff on computational chemistry on my own as a part of my PS, and inside the algorithms was a shiteload of multivariate calculus

@frozen swan r u doing a degree in math +chem?
Guys Iโm doing a double major
Banking and finance + accounting
Accounting +business law and tax
Business law + banking and finance
Which one would be the best option
my default questions to people who are choosing their majors
- what do you want to achieve in the future?
- what are the future outlooks in that field?
- are you sure that you want to progress along the said outlooks?
the key point is not what others want, it's what do you want
Are you interested in law? And think about where you'll practice vs study
Might affect your decision
@void fiber I'm doing cojoint too in business and law. I'm not sure if it's going to be a good time or not, but we will find it out lmao. Im mainly using law for my own business so I dont have to pay for lawyers
Lol ๐
I'm doing like that to... I'll have my own business/become a manager or higher of a big business and not have to pay for an IT guy
@polar copper okay then lol
๐ ฑ๏ธruh
@twin musk fellow Delftenaar here
I put down banking and finance
And accounting as my first 2 options
Business law and taxation as a backup if I donโt like one of them
@void fiber lol I dont get that for my Bcom
Hey guys, so I'm having my interview with Imperial College London on Skype today, and I would like to request for advice on what I should prepare stuff like that. My course is Electrical and electronic engineering and this is my first ever interview, so I'm nervous as hell ๐
@slow widget just calm yourself down, have a glass of water before hand, take deep breaths if you get nervous, and stuff like that
i mean i havent been in an interview before either, but i have done a lot of public speaking, and nerves play a big part in both
since it's on skype, just think of it as an online tutor or something.
good luck ๐
@rose veldt hey, thanks for the advice and good to know that you are familiar with public speaking! (I have never done anything like that) I have never done online tutoring either but I believe it should be less stressful as it's online rather than face to face
ah
huh
a good friend of mine also did a skype interview for IC to read triple E
- the interviewer will ask questions related to your ps
- the interviewer will ask you why do you applied to imperial
- at the end of the interview, the interviewer will tell you: if you have any questions about the course or imperial etc etc, don't ask them a question. just say: I don't have anything to ask, thank you
triple E interviews tend to go on the mathematical side
they can ask you curve sketching
not the further maths curve sketching, but other things like y = (e^x)sinx, y = (sinx)/x, y = e^(sinx) etc etc
they may ask you integration, familiarise yourself with odd and even functions
something like: odd * odd = even
odd * even = odd
even * even = even
if you cannot memorise this, the concept of odd and even functions originated from Taylor expansions
derive those three concepts from there
@slow widget
Oh great, I haven't touched those topics in agess
What if I just memorized it and then explained it to them qualitatively?
odd and even functions as a concept is waaay below fm level
the focus is on applying them
Was your friend asked any questions on physics?
- at the end of the interview, the interviewer will tell you: if you have any questions about the course or imperial etc etc, don't ask them a question. just say: I don't have anything to ask, thank you
@frozen swan for this, why is it no suggested that I ask them a question?
because the interviewers want to finish the interviews off asap and they are fing annoyed by people
really
no joking
I got a rejection letter from IC because of two reasons
- I was flexing way too much during the interview
- I flexed way out of the interviewer's liking at the end by asking them a very hard question
during my last interview at Oxford
it's 1 pm
I was hungry, the interviewers were also hungry
all that was in my mind is to finish this off and to have lunch in a nearby french restaurant
and the same is with the interviewers
ironically, this is the opposite of the advice given for job interviews
there, asking a question or two makes it look like you actually give a shit
which is?
actually, there are several
the oxbridge interview question database changed
you used to be able to ask questions to show your passion about the subject
now, nope
I thought it's only the chemistry department that changed their question database after 20 years
but I was mistaken after asking a few classmates
i see
maths is of the
I was supposed to be interviewed 30 mins ago but I didn't receive any calls or notification on my skype acc wtah
and i couldn't find a follow up email after i had booked my interview slot\
bruhh
Email themmm
ah
this year IC has a lot of issues going on with their interviews
a guy who applied to design engineering
the interviewer skype called him, but he didn't receive a skype notif
the interviewer tried calling him several times, still no notifs
the interviewer got mad
and [the interviewer] discovered that [the interviewer] himself has typed the wrong skype number
so, the interviewer told him to skype him instead
interviewer received zero notifs
interviewer got mad again
and the interviewer himself discovered that his skype settings was put on as no notifs
end result: change in interview date
Oh I was expecting a worse ending ๐
INTERVIEWER GOT MAD AT HIMSELF
Yep, I've done that Mushu, just waiting for their reply
I believe it's lunchtime over there rn
you mean call their phone line?
that would be pricey haha
by the looks for it, ill wait another day
well turns out they didn't receive my booking and therefore my interview has been postponed for 11march
which makes it closer to my mocks, great, but it also allows me to revise those pesky maths and physics concepts that might come up in the interview
but i literally spent the whole day today researching so my entire day was wasted ๐
ouch
@jagged marlin i feel you :(( but it's okay to not know what you want to do in life. we're humans, we change and develop our outlook on things as we grow older. you're still young, and it's okay if you don't have a clear road ahead of you.
but whatever you do, make sure that you do what you want to do and not what others want you to do. it'll all work out in the end, okay? dw <3
i need help
so basically i want to apply for computer science after my AS levels
but i have little to no experience in coding as far as school is concerned
im pretty decent at physics and maths tho
so my question is, even with a lack of coding experience, would universities still consider my applications?
@rose veldt pretty much every university computer science course assumes no previous knowledge
so yes they defo will
Guess what guys I received an email from imperial saying that their member of staff is currently participating in the UK strike motion and therefore they have postponed my Skype interview for another week ๐
๐๐
lmfao
lmao
@marsh dagger I know I've asked you about 50 questions already, and I'm sorry, but is it true you need a fuckton of ram to do heavy programming
@rose veldt depends on what you consider heavy
what's the standard?
I mean
let's say you're making an application
Like a
video game
for instance
if you're making a video game then yes you need lots of ram
not something crazy just an arcade style game
no problem at all man dw
@rose veldt I presume that by 'arcade style game', you're looking at either 2D/pixel-style games. I'm not an expert but adding onto what Korthi said, while there are a lot of exceptions, in general, gaming is single thread intensive on the CPU side, and all parallel task are offloaded to the GPU so you might want to look into the processor and GPU side a bit more as well. :D
@rose veldt I'm really interested in STEM
but I'm not the most keen about physics neither coding
how about a maths degree?
are you keen in building or creating stuff?
since you said you like math
@violet umbra like design? not particularly
@rose veldt yes, that's an option
but my parents don't want me to do pure math as they find it doesn't have as much value as the other stem subjects
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
really?
go have lunch quicker
they find it doesn't have as much value
seriously?
maths --> investment banking --> 600k USD per year
I think that's convincing enough
Auri do be informed gurl
I know someone from trinity college cambridge who did maths
o
she went into investment banking in the netherlands
600k USD per year
if I am actually great at maths
I would do a pure maths degree
no matter what people say
a pure maths degree is the best thing
Like my wise math teacher always says:
"Maths is easy, Life is hard."
whoever says maths isn't useful
I'm gonna give them a boulder to the noggin
and that's from a non-maths major
math is useful, i wish i had the iq to learn it at a higher level that i already know it at tho
me too
I want to know all math
I'm decent enough at it to work with it, but it's not my strength
Math is best but I prefer it with physics
Likewise @echo crown
I wanna do something with food and nutrition
But people say there is no scope for it and Iโm not gonna earn much
I donโt run after money
I wanna do something that I like
But by mistake i didnโt take bio in school
Idk why
People said itโs really hard
Has anyone, offer holders and applicants, heard from any UK universities, about the current situation and how the admission process is gonna happen?
yes but actually no
how does one study for the ucat
Hi so I just finished my IGCSE (about to). So in the future i want to have a career in Computer Science specifically Machine learning engineering (AI). Does anyone have a idea which subjects should I take in AS and A levels.
physics and math is a must
most unis will also ask for chemistry
and if your school offers computer science, do that
Ok thanks ๐
Did anyone apply to hk universities and if so whatโs the status of your student visas
Sorry I can't be of any help as I didn't apply to HK
This is a bit ridiculous and disgraceful
I requested for interview feedback from imperial but all they sent me was this
As if I didn't know how to evaluate it myself
yeah that is what most of the unis send

Is it just because of the covid 19 situation that they got overwhelming requests or is it always like this
it is always like this
so I participated in this competition for getting scholarship
I got rejected
I asked for feedback
they just told me others have a better application
so
yeah
Wait so there are competitions wher you just give your application for scholarship?
Can you tell me where I can find out about these
Oof
it was on the uni website
I guess you can find it on other uni websites
whichever one has it
Kk
tell us about these "uni websites" 0w0
Hello

Bye
Does anyone know any science majors that do not require physics?
every science major requires physics atleast in IG
I meant like university majors
Is there any medical major that does not need physics ?*
Oh okay, thank you
Microbiology
Plant Breeding and Seed Science
Plant Breeding and Seed Technology
Plant Physiology and Crop Production
Plant Science and Biotechnology โ Under Agriculture
Soil Science
Zoology
@peak wasp
My friend is actually interested in Zoology
and he did not take Physics
Dentistry
Botany
as well
thas what i meant yeah
uh
biomed needs physics
it's not a strict requirement that you need AL physics
but biomed is intertwined with engineering
I'll leave the decision up to you
Depends which part of biomed you wanna go into
Whether it's easy or not, requirements are requirements
Hey
I have a few questions
so im done with my igcse
and im starting the ib diploma soon and need to get my choices down
I want to study engineering at university
I am certain I want to take English sl, spanish sl, physics hl, maths hl, econ hl. regardings the 6th option im undecided between taking history sl or theater sl
any suggestions?
Chem HL @soft nova
or SL idk
depends on what kind of engineering
I don't really think either history SL or theater SL are relevant to an engineering degree so you should probably just take whichever one you know for sure you are A) GOOD at and B)can get the higher grade
Bro no response? What happened @soft nova
Sorry, just saw the message now
I thought you'd tag me right away
Hmm, it's that at my school they don't let us take 2 sciences so :/
Hold up
How can they stop you from taking 2 sciences
Already IB has this annoying but somewhat reasonable limitation of not more than 2...
@soft nova you have to talk about this or something man... At my school they said if you showed a university where you wanted to go that required 3 sciences, they would allow you to take it. Ofc that didn't work out in my case and it was too risky not to take a normal diploma
But idk, maybe you can try this and see if there's a course and prospective uni which requires 2 sciences and dispute this with your school
Ok
I'll look into it
I'm interested in universities in Europe
Want to apply to the UK and stuff so I'll look into that
Umm hello im new here
So our school is offering chemistry or comp sci as its ib subjects
But they are in the same bloc so i cannot pick both, which is a bummer
Ive been reading the channel for a while now and ive heard that many unis want chemistry or comp sci
So which should i pick?
@elfin pendant what do you want to study for uni?
for finance I believe they're both not requirements
But universities do ask for a science in order to get admission generally
So go for chem since it's broader
depends what kinda businesses you wanna go into?
^ that too
if you say tech then CS
but is it ok if i already have physics SL as one of my options?
I don't do IB so idk much
wdym is it okay?
Finance director or accounting or analysts idk
then you'll be dealing with computers
Because @rose veldt said unis wanted sciences
you too :)
Go for CS if you're absolutely certain about the finance/accounting/analyst part,
Chem if you think your interests might change. Opens more doors for you as it's also a more common requirement
hey do you guys have any videos that can help with college application like how to apply and all
is there a specific country you're applying to?
Wasn't originally planning on giving SATs but since I am free and planning for turkey, thought I should
at this point what you guys recommend
I am doing it for scholarship
then give it a shot once the situation clears
in the meantime use the khan academy practice tests to see if you're prepared
@earnest vine we have #sat-paper & #565147246908276736, grab the appropriate role from #roles
Hi, I am still 15, and I have a major interest in ICT and eithcal hacking, I need advice on if I should pursue it or choose another line instead
if you have an interest in ethical hacking then try researching about it a little and see what you do in the job into depth besides hacking legally
Just say what all you know about ethical hacking right now
i am still learning, and i have learnt a lot, firstly i know subnetting, i know basic scripting with bash, i have finished bandit(overthewire),i know how to perform basic DDOS attacks, i know python,i can crack WPA,WPS,WPA2, and still learning many more things like active directory and i am also trying CTF's
basically, the job is about finding vulnerabilities in a system or a server, then patching it and letting the blue team to know what you did, and make a report for it
PS: thats not all i know, but yeah most of it, typing this in the early morning and i am actaully sleepy
