oh okay š
hello everyone. Can anyone verify if we can get admission is BSc computer science after taking chem, phy and math in A levels?.
You're welcome š
hello people, do you guys think it is wise to do Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry for my A levels to get into med school?
Hello! Iām going to complete my IGCSE in a few weeks, like most of u I think. Well, I want to continue with AS & A levels. Whereas, some people here are suggesting me to take IBDP as there are lesser opportunities for A level qualifications to get into universities except in the UK. So.. Confused! Anyone who is doing/or has finished their A levels can clear this for me?
@slender prism where do you want to study?
@slender prism A-levels are accepted pretty much everywhere, not just the UK, so it won't really affect your chances of getting into Uni
@slow widget I havenāt actually DECIDED.The thing is.. itās difficult to find A level schools in my place. So, I was focusing more on those than after 12th.
Ok. Thanks @trail owl
if you're in the sciences, you'll probably need to go to a school for your AS/AL
Software engineer or computer science? and what is the difference
Anyone can help. Do i have to do 13 years in school to go to a medical college
@MynameJeff - Software Engineer is a job held usually after studying Computer Science. For example, after studying medicine (computer science), you could become a doctor (software engineer) or a nurse (Web Developer).
Should I opt for IBDP after my 10th grade IGCSE?
@toxic python Only problem with your comparison is that in a lot of cases, the Web developers (nurse) might get paid more than the Software engineers (doctor)
It's a simple "metaphor" just to add context, don't read too much into it
I know I know xD
Broaden your line of work, don't get into something too quickly. Trust me, you're going to regret it
Drop out
@jagged sonnet speaks the truth here. Make informed decisions.
^^
@slow widget same dude !
Are you doing IBDP ? @trail owl
@slow widget nope, Kuro has transcended these heirarchies
@slow widget if the high school diploma programs were a spectrum
Here's a graphical representation of where Kuro would be
Chad tbh
I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing @slow widget
@trail owl okay
@slow widget Explain what this has to do with Leviathans
Nothing particularly, you've ascended the 2D heirarchy of political thought and are battling with the dragons who can't escape it
You are in another dimension
The illustration from the Bible was there because the original meme had JP instead of Kuro and he usually advises people to slay dragons
Yes slay dragons
@trail owl https://youtu.be/-kjw4n9oJh8
This is a clip from Jordan Peterson's Big Ideas Lecture way back in 2002 even if the video quality may look like it's from 50 years ago. In this clip, Jordan...
Lol
idk what to study
i mean why waste good money on university when you could just die
yo im doing a foundation in science and the med school where i'll hopefully be able to twin in the UK or Ireland
@distant nimbus remember that doing medschool and becoming a doctor is a 10 year commitment
that's all I have to say to the people who haven't really thought their decisions through
Dropout rates amongst medschool students are higher than ever
Anyone here know much about cybersecurity
@steel sable what happened?
Just a future career choice
okai
i jus checked
jajaja
jus wanna know what A levels are important for it
but i MIGHT do APs
CS, English and Maths
English isn't important but most unis require it
english isn't important
not chem
not really, but unis will consider it
thank god
in the end it all comes down to unis
yeah, shortlist the unis you'll apply to
they accept 5 igcse passes min
and then structure your AL around those
check their average freshman student stats, and they'll be a good indicator of what you should aim for
so i wanna do APs too so i can idk
at the least
you're welcome, no problemo
@trail owl
just wanted to now
if i take in AS/A IT, Business, Math, english General paper
what course can i do
and also i want to end-up doing MBA
@trail owl and why would you say that I haven't thought my decision out... xd
@polar copper that sounds like the MBA route. but General paper is kinda useless tbh
@slow widget check the AS Chem ZNotes, and if you have questions, ask in #as-chemistry
my school told me that english in as and a levels will get harder by which i won't be able to cope up with @trail owl
AS English certainly isn't as easy as IG english but most people do JUST AS English for A levels
General paper is 'useless' in the sense that most unis dont value them much
it won't make a difference if you have it or not whereas AS English will be considered
I'm mostly generalizing here but yeah
tbh i did core in ig-english that's why i guess my school told me they wont offer english
Ahhh that makes more sense now
Since I'm currently doing as english and I'm giving the as paper in may, it is definitely much harder to do AS English than ig. Most of my classmates had extended in ig but it is still a struggle to get consistent marks. But the matter of fact is that Unis will accept an E in English for your as levels.
@polar copper
@thorn folio same here... doing that as English paper this May
Iām trynna go Germany and they require as English šŖšŖšŖ
oh god
@trail owl I searched the freshman requirements for my uni of choice but this part is confusing
"A minimum 15-unit pattern of courses for admission as a first-time freshman. Each unit is equal to a year of study in a subject area. A grade of C or better is required for each course you use to meet any subject requirement."
cuz on a cambridge pdf, it says that the uni "accepts
Cambridge IGCSE and O Levels as meeting the
entry criteria for admission with 5 O Level passes."
@steel sable I'm guessing it means 15-unit courses over the course of your highschool, meaning that over 4 years, 15 units, which means if you take 3-5 subjects, that should be enough to qualify?
I am in 10th grade and our class have a dumb coordinator and she wants us to tell her before 11 grade in 7 months of we r choosing subjects for 11th grade and 12th grade and I donāt want to choose what should I tell her ( also I told her let me take everything then I can drop I donāt want she said I canāt us that correct or no)
She also wants us to sign on a paper š¤
@vivid glacier The subjects you're required to take and offered depends entirely on the school, so if your coordinator did tell you to pick now, I guess the best thing to do would be to check out all the subjects available, check the syllabi of each so you know what you're going to learn (in case that interests you or not)
The 'signing on paper' part must be some form of agreement i suppose? did you read the fine print?
@vivid glacier take your time, don't sign on anything that binds you to give the subjects you choose
it's probably a ploy to take extra money from you
^ yeah. take your time, think about it and do your research
schools are vicious this way
I mean is it correct to let us choose before we even do our o levels
if possible, move to another school if they insist
@vivid glacier No, it's not. that's kinda stupid tbh
because the level of study required for A levels and IGCSEs are vastly different
@vivid glacier where do you live
I'm guessing in India
No XD
Okay wow, because most indian schools do this kinda crap
never realized it was universal
it isn't universal lol, no school in Pk pulls this short of shit
But most schools donāt do this shit
Okay that would make more sense.
Yh
threaten to leave the school if they want you to do something you don't want to
It's important that you know whats on the paper specifically before you sign anything
Yeah, that too
there's nothing they love more than money
XD
if they persist, leave the school
Itās kinda hard to leave the school for other reasons
Not money
Or anything financially
they'll probably cave if you threaten to leave the school
they really do love the money
it's the only reason they're in it
@slow widget you're being a little too cynical
my brother threatened to leave the school
the admin fired a few members of the staff
just because of that
A hahahaha our admin said if the students like the teacher that means the teacher is bad
just read the paper they want you to sign very well
think it out
ask them if the decision is reversible
Well Iām not 18 so I donāt think if I sign anything goes on
yeah I don't think it's legally binding
but within the bylaws of the school
it holds
Thx though
oh
try posting it in #ig-chemistry there must be more people there to help u haha
but like idk how u got 1 to 1 to 1
I'd first recommend not simplifying
oH
GOFD
SOZ DIDNT CHECK UR ROLE SIR
didnt mean the disrespect senior š¤
idk cuz we take the same thing in moles
I'm jus gonna post a response i found online in the #ig-chemistry @slow widget
can you see the #ig-chemistry channel? @slow widget
@steel sable the question was already answered in #as-chemistry, don't worry
And @slow widget try posting questions in the right channels from now on please
@trail owl so the coordinator is tell me to sign this but I talked to the British council and they told me to not sign it but the coordinator is saying I canāt do eleven grade if I donāt pick
@vivid glacier The form only specifies that they need it to plan, so legally it isn't binding, so I suppose you can sign this, shouldn't be a problem. but in case you want to take any extra subjects, you'll need to ask them about doing it privately first
Ok thanks
Hey @eternal vine! What advice do you need?
basically what my mothers is saying is to pick all commerce as in business, economics as well as acounts
and like right now im in grade 11 in the middle of my mocks and my boards are like in a month
in 12 im required to pick four subjects
so since i have to take commerce
and due to my interests in travel
but i have no idea what career to look forward too
or what course i need to take
yo i need some advice.
IM PRETTY firm on taking law. But im unsure if i wAna do a founDATION in law or a levels
@deft sun DATION
you had to message every single channel?@humble sundial
I need to spread across all of znot
@deft sun foundation is a better easier option than A levels
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i seee
what HL would you recommend dropping if you want to pursue something related to computer science , HL CS, HL Biz, HL Maths, HL Phys
@neat karma Tough choice..
Mebbe Biz, if you ask me
But that's a genuinely useful subject
@crimson willowBut some college CS courses require Physics
@crimson willow That's what I've heard, at least
iirc most CS courses require physics
at least in Pakistan
also all of the Ivies require Physics
Ooh okay
But other then electronics I see no practical application
At least Biz can be used in the field
Like hell Newtonian mech is gonna debug your codeš
i could see applications for it
@slow widget Not in a purely theorect iCal sense
Yes ofc
But biz is a side skill that can add value
yeah, it's not complete unfathomable that the course would have you do some physics applications
and ofc then there's ID learning shiz
If you're interested in the tech industry then physics is somewhat useless
yes
If not then it's a useful tool
depends a lot on what you want to do
wouldn't need simple harmonic motion to close deals
@slow widget This
Swinging
@neat karma also ask your seniors about the faculty, some subjects may not have good faculty even if the subject is good and IB really needs good faculty for you to keep up (plus mostly your own personal effort)
@trail owl Well from what I hear Physics & CS teachers are bad Math & Business have good teachers
Take that into consideration too then, and it would also help to speak to the faculty themselves, just in case the responses you got from your seniors was just due to their difference of opinions or studying styles/behavior in class, it's important to get all sides if you can.
@trail owl is it okay to take Computer science in AS/A lvls without studing that in IGs?
Yeah you can but get ready for a tougher learning curve
@polar copper depends on your interest tbh
CS on a whole might be 'objectively' easier to study for and excel at, because the content is pretty straightforward and if you put in the effort, it'll show.
As far as I know IT, it's a little bit more unpredictable in the sense, the Audio/Video editing parts in AS and the Animation parts in A2, while really easy can be open to different interpretation depending on the examiner so people generally find it harder to score
MEDICINE people, help me out
Is education in the UAE worth it, or should I go abroad?
I've been told that it doesn't matter where I get my MBBS from as the content is the same
I have to just put my own effort because there's only so much one can teach
and people look where you do post grad from, not undergrad
so i shouldn't worry if i study from somewhere that isn't top 100
OR i could try to opt for charles uni and study their physics entrance exam syllabus for 4months
OR i could try to do AL physics in a year to widen my acceptance chance at different unis (by dropping A2 psychology)
UK unis are too expensive :(
@spare tulip since MBBS is the same, look into the worth of the medical license in said country. that matters a lot more.
some medical licenses account for way more than others
@slow widget what's your major?
Art History and History
ok
Irvine is the place for STEM stuff and semiconductors and stuff
That jazz
Np
No problemo, look into the area, that plays a huge part too since you wont be inside college all the time
Yeah
@spare tulip uk is not worth it, you will sink into debt before you know it. California is cheap compared to living in the uk
@steel sable What does she do?
thats why so many people resort to benefits and some just game round using benefits
english tutor at a gcse centre
with brexit coming, i literally dk whats gonna happen
its expensive doe
like im planning to go uni in cali and its cheaper
wait
isnt it
e x p e n s i v e
my grandparents have a shitty rundown house in east london, which isnt even an expensive part of london and the house costs 300k pounds
like its the tiniest thing ever its so claustrophobic
IDK i just think its too expensive and hard to live das my opinion but i still love the uk <3
ytytytyyytyttyty
also, where abouts london do you live in
just curious, not a mandatory question
@marsh dagger You're in London?! And you didn't tell me. I'm gonna hunt your ass down now
OwO
@steel sable Stanmore bro
Kinda @steel sable
hold on a second...
@toxic python I thought I told you...
do u go university there?
@steel sable Nopre
okai
Oh, I thought you meant central London, my bad
I am now, I was in London yesterday
Ahh OK
uwu
i was thinking maybe u go to the same uni as my siblings
would be rlly weird if i found out you guys know my siblings o.O
@steel sable Which uni?
"Yes ur brother is a little knobhead in our server"
not sure but it begins with S
i forgot ill ask doe
@steel sable Stanmore College?
idk it was more of a
University of ...
all i know it takes them a while to get there
and my brother lives in south and my sister lives in north east
so for them to take a while to get there it must be in the north west
where stanmore is
Yeah xD
hi
i am taking AS Accounting but i haven't done IG accounting will i be able to survive?
@polar copper You'd be able to survive "anything" if you have enough willpower!
i am only doing it because i heard that it is a lovely subject (got it from my business studies sir)
and my mother told me to do that subject too
@polar copper Find the motivation from within
i am motivated
Do you enjoy it? Do you see yourself using it in the future?
One thing I'll tell you is that it might seem daunting at first
but you'll get the hang of it
just remember to put in some extra effort
A lot of kids hate accounting because they approach it the wrong way
@toxic python i haven't started yet and maybe i will be using it
i think it will be easy as i have done IG business
@polar copper Don't consider it easy, but don't consider it impossible
manageable?
whoops wrong channel
is managable a suitable word?
@trail owl agreed, I definitely wasn't the biggest fan of IG accounting
@ everyone out there waiting on Ivy Day Results,
May the force be with you,
May the force be with you too
I am taking Business, IT and Math I excel mostly and mainly in IT and Business yet math not so much as I am not considering it much on my future course which I am unable to decide or I don't know yet what to do I took IT cause I have a sense of passion for technology and it's innovation and with business it could Idk help me sell the tech or other method of technology, all in all I don't want to take a course or have job later after Uni that doesn't involve technology without business or not have IT at all in it. which is where by I am finding it hard to decide on a good course which I will be pleasured with so any ideas?
Awaiting the fat Ls
Just kidding
got my statement of entry
@slow widget congrats!!
@polar copper I saw this
Hey so Iām about to finish igcse, but Iām having truble desiding on A-Level subjects, Iām homeschooling and Iād like to do AS and A2 in onle year. Is it posible to take Mathmatics (pure and statistics), CS, business studies and if posible physics in this amount of time?
And if I chose Mathmatics-pure and statistics, Computer Science and Business Studies(without physics) what are my options at university?
physics is generally a requirement even for cs courses in top unis
sat physics
it is possible to do AS and AL for four subjects in one year, but it depends a lot on your work ethic
and you'll have to spend a lot of time studying
wouldn't recommend it because if you'll have ECs going on too, you'll experience burn out in a few months
(if you're aiming for top grades)
I am aiming for top grades, so if 4 is too much what can I remove?
4 isn't too much if you dedicate enough time for it
IMO just do take two years and do it, unless you're sure you won't burn out
Cuz obviously you're planning for top grades then top unis, so you might not really have a break between the A levels and uni, and burning out in uni doesn't seem the best option when it's preventable
Ofc you can't be sure, but I know that I can't do it personally.. even if you do manage the AL itself, there is uni to cross too
The workload depends on the uni
and if you want to go to a Top Uni (unless it's in the UK) you'd need to prove that you've done the hardest and most rigorous courses your school had to offer
Why the exception for the UK?
UK relies more on your Academic performance
let me rephrase that, Unis in the UK care more about your academic performance
So arguably, it is easier to get in
@frigid basin if you're looking to get into US unis, you'll have to have nice ECs too
^ Yeah. your ECs matter a lot if you're applying to US universities
Yea that won't work for me...
11 of the Top 20 colleges are in the US.
I feel like they put a bit too much of focus on the ECs tho
In a lot of ways that's a good thing
because your ECs are stuff you do because you WANT to do it
ECs>>>academics
I'm only going into one š I don't need 11
Yea but not to the extent that they focus on
Yeah, you'd need to apply to a bunch if you want to get into one, it's like a shotgun
True
Academics matter, but not as much as the amount of character development you'd need to succeed when you're older
grades are crucial ofc, but a man without ECs is practically castrated (application and fun-wise)
Well you see personally, being in KSA, anything outside of school is non existent
Because of the community here
So obviously trying as much as I can to do from school
But I mean that it wouldn't work out for me to go to the US
If you are very academic, Writing the IMO, IPhO and IIO are also very good ECs, check #š°opps
But you need to go to the countries for those right?
I checked them out, can they be conducted in schools elsewhere?
Nah, first you'd need to qualify the local sessions
making music is a nice EC
there's loads of stuff you can do inside your room that'll count
I'll look into it then @trail owl
Making Music that is recognized is a better EC. If you think you have what it takes, get your music onto spotify
Yeahh
take Kuro for example
A lot of my ECs are mainly stuff I do in my room
the guy's an EC god
When I saw it, I got the impression that you'd need to be there
I'm no EC god plis
don't deflect compliments lol
i think I told you about the time I decided to quit deflecting compliments
@shadow tree you code right? That's an EC on its own, but make something using your skills.
Get your Github more active
Also, tip on github. Don't ever delegate your account to anyone else.
I made that mistake once, and the guy poofed my entire account
Wdym?
This was me once upon a time.
Like tell someone to write stuff for me you mean?
Nah, some times when you start contract work on code, some of them ask you for for verification
Legal stuff. some ask you for your login credentials (I know that's a big red flag I should've seen coming)
So last year, I made a github account just for this. Got a lot of code on it for this one private repo project.
It was a recognition system for hospitals. but then the moment all of the code got done.
This company stole all the code, terminated everything and deleted all the accounts connected to the project.
I lost a lot of my 'github rep'
so whatever project you're working on, do your research
Don't mention it, you're very welcome! Look into some projects you can contribute towards, I'm sure it'll help you a ton with your ECs
@trail owl If you handed over your GitHub creds, only you are to blame
yes it's like your nudes leaking
I made my dumb mistake xD so learn from it
@slow widget Best example
@marsh dagger
ex-senator: my daughters may not show it, but in their hearts they respect you a lot
me (because I used to reflexively deflect compliments: there's nothing to respect
awkward silence ensued
never deflected a compliment again
@slow widget šš
š
Iām sure itās a dumb question, but I didnāt know about IGCSE until last yearš so what are ECs?
Extra curriculars
should i apply to an a level college as well as a foundation in science
my offer is 5bs
but i'm aiming for much higher than that
Should I get an A* in all of my A/As subjects to be able to apply for a scholarship in Europe?
A/AS level subjects*
What do you mean by private scholarship?
it depends where you want to go if the university has high standard or not
noooo it s okay and yeah the rating i mean
@alpine whale are there any specific scholarships you're looking into
No
have you shortlisted the unis you'll be applying to?
I mean ive been looking for unis where I can study the chemical engineering
You know what nvm
I will be looking on internet furthermore
you can try in belgium they re not that severe you know
the universities there have a rank range between 100 - 200 there is even one wit a rank of 65
omg don t say turkey it s a dream to go into a good one
@alpine whale make a list of the unis you'll be applying to
then go to their websites and check the criteria
for scholarships and fin aid
if they don't have it on their website, email them
Ik I will try my best
would any medical schools accept me with 6A*s and 3As as my IGCSE grades
ooooooo
@distant nimbus thats great but they look at your A level/equivalent grades, non academics and interview results as well
nien
@slow widget Not aware of anyone here that has applied to Germany tbh.
Where all did you apply to?
If I have 3 subjects for A level (Math, computer science and bussness) would be enough to go to university? Spesificly engineering.
depends on the university
Delhi University is the only good University. I am Khan Wazir and i love Delhi University
Which is the best college for medicine in the USA
I think you'd have to go through something called "pre-med" first in the US
Not too sure but that's what I heard from a couple of peeps
Search it up tho
Yea .. the USA only has medicine as a graduate program, so you can actually apply with any bachelor's degree, has to be at least slightly relevant tho. Most students do a pre-med bachelor's degree to prepare for the PG @surreal dawn
Yeap. @slow widget and @shadow tree are correct.
Becoming a Doctor in the US, is more of a ten year journey. but getting a medical license in America will give you a lot of credibility in general. If you're a veterinary doctor with an american license, it's even better because you'll essentially be allowed to be approved anywhere in the world without much hassle.
Medicine in the US is like an 8 year course
First 4 years you are doing your bachelors and it doesn't have much of medicine but then after 4 years you actually get to study medicine and do your MBBS and then after that You have your specializations and whatnot.
In Pakistan, medicine is done in 5 years and then house job and then specialisation
If u are still looking for a medical university in USA
John Hopkins is the best
People in Pakistan usually do their medicine here and go for their specialisation outside to the States
And they usually apply for the USMLE
@cold wigeon 8 years for studying, but you'd need work experience and residency before you're allowed to practice medicine, so ~10 years.
Most South Asian countries have it around the 5-6 year mark.
and as for 'the best' university for medicine, that's highly subjective. ESPECIALLY if you think John Hopkins is the best.
If you want an objective list of 'the very best', It'd be more like:
Oxford, Harvard, Cambridge, Stanford, Princeton, Imperial College London, Yale, Columbia (not necessarily in that order)
John Hopkins would most likely be in the top 10, but not the very best.
If u are talking about Yale and Harvard and whatnot these have medicine programs but they are not entirely dedicated to the medicine side but John Hopkins is known as a MEDICAL UNIVERSITY.
that has literally no bearing on how good they are^
Doesn't matter if it's known as a Medical University or not tbh, a lot of the appeal comes from the prestige and resources available in those Unis.
With Princeton, they have their own state of the art Hospital nearby iirc that helps students with practical experience, Harvard has it's own set of resources, most notably their biopolymers facility where a lot of cutting-edge research and molecular biology orders happen.
Those are just two examples I can give.
Each uni has their own merits. but usually they're famous and ranked consistently as a top university for a reason.
that's like saying that LUMHS is better than Harvard Medical because LUMHS is a dedicated medical university @cold wigeon
how much essential is Math for universities in USA for subject Computer Science/IT??
@verbal ruin by default, very essential, but there may be exceptions and may vary depending on the uni.
is anyone aware of universities in which math isn't an requirement
I think math is compulsory
Unless the major you are planning to take doesn't require mathematics @verbal ruin
IM planning to give SAT maths after AS
PROBABLY 3 months after it
Is it wise
can i give phsycsi and chemsitry too??
in that time period
Most places don't require subject tests at all tho right?
varies
@shadow tree in the US all of the t20s do require subject tests
different subject tests for different courses tho
The top 20 you mean?
yes
even the unis in Pakistan want SAT subject tests now lol
yep
for eg nust
not KSA tho
who'd like to study in KSA lokl
lol
i don't want to get beheaded
If I'm already an American citizen but I study outside of the country. Do I need IELTS / TOEFL / etc...?
And I'm planning to go to prep school for college or smth, I have my IGCSE (am I considered an international student because I took the international test?), AS level coming up this May-June session, and SAT which I'm planning to take soon. Is this enough or do I need to consider something like AP or I need to take A2 too ( I have been told by many people AS alone is fine for most university in America).
Email any one prospective university and they should be able to clarify, even if you're not going there, they'll at least give you general info @burnt path
Alright thanks
@burnt path what did u get at igcse level? I want to see how a US applicant scores for reference
Math: A, English: A, Science : C, ICT: C
if you have the money, brains and grades Harvard @surreal dawn
anyone going to study in Europe ? (except the UK)
Is physics with computing course any good?
@slow widget maybe holland
Is it possible to apply for Uni at USA T20 with my AS and A2 ? As I take Math, It and Business I mostly want to concentrate on business and IT so which course will best for me ?
the future Bill Gates
Who me dang if it thats cool but I don't even think I am that good
lol
aim higher
if u intend to
I tried and I fell harder on the ground XD excuse me for my dark humor
lol
but I'll consider again I really do want to become something innovational and most time I did aim higher and I got to where I was now I was trash at business back in Igsce I used to get 18% on school exams till I switch to ICT, but now in A lvl I am one of the top students in Business and idk how to say it but teachers expect lots from me even the teachers who don't teach me
@slow widget lol I was the top 3% of the world in IG business and am currently taking As Business studies. As far as courses are concerned, in terms of the business side I would reccomend some type of management and entrepreneurship. If entrepreneurship isn't possible then do what interests you
@slow widget T20s require more than just good grades. You need to be a top tier athlete/founder of a company/ really invested into volunteering or other stuff which makes you stand out. All that alongside straight As.
@slow widget @thorn pendant is right
In fact, they'll be willing to compromise a bit on raw grades if your extracurricuar stuff is good enuf
i've heard that if you get low grades which is like in the 80% range, you can make up for it through a high sat and subject test score as well.
@thorn pendant Yeah i've had mates who've done that
Thats cool I guess I do a lot of stuff like founded a company (startup CSR related), developing an app for CIE school near my local area, did a charity/donation/support project with roots and shoots few months ago as I am still a current member of it, getting good at basketball and I do some poetry time to time or just writing would it be enough for them?
@slow widget what's the company called?
Zeneta well still kinda work in progress as I can't give it my full-time since a student and all soo yea
Let me start with the app, well I was in an IT class one day learning programming where by it got struck with an idea of making a school app for CIE registered school which aren't to many where am from so it would be easy introducing to each schools, the app would like students Ig and A level students know their schedule (exams or lessons), chat group where by teachers and students can find it easier to communicate and share resources and like everything CIE related provided in that very app so no need of searching on the web for a long time trying to find whats right and all I was gonna start with my school first and see how it goes cause I am still developing it
I was also in a business class XD when I was struck with an Idea where I was really intrigued with CSR and Marketing Promotion and Pricing where as I had thought that most cheap jewelry sold in ordinary stored like quality at times and not many stores with cheap jewelry but having great quality can be found everywhere so I thought to start a online store and had a joint venture with one of my friend's brother company that makes jewelry with great quality so I just sell them with a a policy or unique selling point of"items under $20" and targeting particularly the whole world. Its not a company for say but actually a retail yet I don't want stop there If I could find ways of helping I would develop it mostly that what Zeneta is about
As I want it to have different factors that helps in different ways as making high quality jewelry with the most affordable price reach people worldwide with the love of jewelry (cause I a done a mild research and many or half of many sell it at a way higher price which many may get discourage) so thats basically it I guess
Thanks but doing this stuff now makes me wonder what i really want to be in the future still haven't even decided yet
The future is always uncertain and we must embrace it.
Those are wise words
That's deep
Wise AF
@slow widget all that stuff you do š
thanks
ur welcome ;3
XD are you the same person?
Yes :))))))))
@slow widget lol I've had many ideas aswell for actual products and services, however they are quite hard to pull off. For instance I've come up with ways to make paying taxes much easier and more efficient to new ways to synthesize and create reliable infrastructure to make hydrogen the next fuel source. Aswell as that I've been doing quite a bit of product research and development of a better flexible solar panels and or to make solar panels much more efficient.
And aswell as that been working on tryna get new ideas for catalytic converters for cars exhausts and factory's which are much cheaper and more reliable than the marketable counterparts
I got all thse ideas from just sitting in business and gaining the skills to look for improvements in my environment. I mean I'm also working on designs for those strollers that old people have so they can fit through doors with getting stuck. Just being a student tho kinda sucks cause you cant put your time and money into your ideas which sucks.
@sharp vale here?
So I'm really interested in programming
Wanted to take CS
School doewnt provide it
So if I change my school next year
Can I do AL of CS in only 1 year
Or is that difficult?
Plus I know basics of programming too. Very basics only
@marsh dagger
@sharp vale How much Python do you know, if any?
i know you're asking karthik and all but my friend took al cs online and got an a*
he says if you like it
I salut him
you can do it
@sharp vale Why is that a surprise to me?š
But I dunno if I'm smart enough
@marsh dagger yeah thats basically him
@sharp vale its mostly mugging up
no practicals
@sharp vale AS in 1 year is baby shit
You can do AS in 3 months
AL theory is the hard part - practicals are easy enough
In CS is theres more theory? Or practical?
Both are fairly equal
listen
Lot diff
do you like it as a hobby
More low level stuff
Much more interesting?
At least for me
or is it going to be a career in college
@dapper snow let's be honest mate - for a CS career you don't need a CS degree these days
most colleges dont require it
Yeah
Just PCM
What's that?
@marsh dagger lmao ik that's why i am taking cen not cs
Oh ok
What website
i am not dumb to go to college to learn it
so i am taking cen to learn the ins and outs of the hardware
Yeah
plus they teach coding too
I know a website which I used to learn python and c++ in summer vacation
Esp since all the bootcamp idiots these days
anything a cs graduate can do a cen graduate can do +more
Obv
What website tho?
i didnt learn
i am saying i can
plenty of them tho
you can find them by a simple google search
@sharp vale https://www.tutorialspoint.com/
Not very good looking, but does the fucking job
also
there is a book my cousin (cen ) recommended
if you're into games
and wanna learn coding
hold up i think i have it on my computer
Ok @dapper snow
True @slow widget
found it but i dont have nitro so cant upload it
But I want to study it
And all he gave maths math phsycsi and chem
I'm entirely self-taught till now
u can study it at univeristy
it's called "Learning C++ by Creating Games with UE4"
Thanks @dapper snow
have to switch line now
Why?
You guys are self taught because u guys are really smart. Not everyone else is like that
@sharp vale Not cos we're really smart. It's cos we're driven AF
boyo my friend was the dumbest shit ever he got c in math
yeah just an example
I ELFT ALOT
i finished 30 mins early
DAMN
Thanks @marsh dagger for your time. Really appreciate it man.
i still dont know how i saw ^5 as ^7 in the first q tho
i need to get my eyes checked
otherwise it was gonna be a full mark
Really???
but i dont have any pressure@slow widget
Yeah
Weird
i already got accepted so i literally have no shits to give
What did u think I was gonna choose a career as?
gluck]
Fashion designing?
@dapper snow Where mate?
if u did
@slow widget š
@marsh dagger uni of sharjah
@dapper snow ooh nice
Oh and one more thingg
Do IGs result matter.?
no
Or A levels result
they matter more than a levels here
depends where r u applying
When applying to unis
dk about where you are at
As long as you don't fail you'll be fine
uiim out
Ok
@dapper snow I'm doing uni in the UK
if a levels are to some extent and igs no then what matters most
Entry tests?
@dapper snow the ability to give them the stacks š
SATs
@sharp vale only in US
Personality
@marsh dagger SO ITS NOT ONLY DUBAI š
@dapper snow The whole fucking thing is a scam these days š
GBP?
British Pound
Yes
Ok thanks bro
0
i am interested
rlly interested
but up until summer 2018 i didnt have a pc that can run visual studip
or any software rlly
Oof
and i have been caught up in gaming
new gaming pc n shit
probably gonna read that book my cuz recommended this summer
Hmm
i know its not gonna be a major thing
but its gonna give me the basics that i can lean on the first year of uni
after all
i am paying the uni to teach me the major stuff
i know
that's why i chose a relatively cheap uni
and not the 100k ae one that most people recommend
too many people telling me their bachelors didnt matter all that much
i will let it work itself out
Wait wait wait just a mini q here
For most cases
To be accepted into a uni
In Canada
What's the minimum grade they'd accept
Any idea?
Like for majority
minimum grade is probably D like it is in mostly everywhere else in the world
but good luck trying to get in with just the minimum
it's gonna be up to the competition
Nah I was just asking so that I would not stress over it like I was doing until I asked
I honestly suck at studying so
But thank you
omg
finally someone who says suck at studying too
i thought i was the only one
goddamit i am not dumb i just cant do hard work
I can't neither :)
Don't worry and resit B)
if you're not feeling good for this exam season
there is always another.
unless u wanna do med
then ggwp
I actually do have to get in to med field
Soooooooooooooooooo
Is D still an acceptable grade? ;-;
._.
U want to be a doctor
But my mother
YEs for her
I will become one
I don't wanna be a doctor sis ;-;
it's a pain prolly
But my mother always wished for her children to become a doctor so
My fam is a doctor fam
I'm fed up of doctors
YEHHH
gl with ur bmat
Edmonton anyway
For med school
Oh lol what country you from?
KSA
Ksa?
RippA
š
Hey I came here for career advice
Same here
Guys I'm not sure whether I should go for a physics major or an engineering major... From what I've seen there are courses like aeronautics or just aerospace engineering which are interesting to me and then there's pure physics but I'd rather be more interested in ASTROphysics which is less available as a major from what I've seen.
I'm not sure what I'd like to do more between astrophysics and aerospace engineering and I don't know whether a double major would be appropriate. I also don't get most of the basics of how undergrad education works.
@shadow tree @crimson willow help the mans out will ya?
For me I have a pretty straightforward goal but I don't know the specifics in them.. I'm really interested in Model UN, public speaking and debate for I have done it for a considerable amount of time, and I think I'm pretty good at it compared to my peers, so I want to major in politics or political science in the states(Either Georgetown, Columbia, Pennsylvania or NYU). I really want to aim for high spots of the United Nations like the minister of foreign affairs, but I don't know what to do before them.
@sour dew well what are you more interested in? The practical aspect or physics or the theoretical aspect of it?
@slow widget I'd say you start out with MUNs. Then get on to some level of the public sector in your country and then move to your end goal.
thats the problem, ive been asked that question so many times but i cant answer it cause i like both of them.
ill have to research a bit more i guess
To answer the other part of your question, @sour dew astrophysics is less available as a major at the undergrad level, a BSc physics is much more commonly available. You can go on to specialise during your master's degree
Okay, thanks
@sour dew I share your interests too. However, I feel that B.S or B.Sc in Physics offers a bit more of a foundation than Astro.
Yes that's true
The main problem I have is figuring out whether I wanna make rovers or rockets and stuff and send them out to space or just do the math and science with the research they return to understand why everything is as it is
Honestly I wanna do both but...
Oof
IMMA BE A SOUNDCLOUD RAPPER
send link
me too
@slow widget do a lot of quality reading in economics
political science is some interesting stuff
Yups
You brainwashed not to know you grew up wanting to be a pimp
You wanted to be a player (right)Ā
You know, you grew up wanting to be these different thingsĀ
That are role models to you in your neighborhood
Until you figure out that hold on
I'm finna be the first role model that ain't that
@dapper snow please don't spam in channels other than spam
It's irrelevant to the topic, so please refrain from doing so @dapper snow
ok grandpa
@dapper snow that's a warning
How hard is it to get into MIT?
I have the same question
harvard level hard
Damn
honestly if you want these top level unis go for a postgrad
its not as hard basically all you need is the money
and its much more worth it
So money makes the difference?
med school is another thing
medicine you're handling human lives
even if you have the money
they cant just allow anyone
I was gonna
Ask sth else
What i wanted to know is
Just on an average
WHat's the minimum grade uni would accept?
you can find minimum grades on their websites and they will be stuff like c or maybe b if its a top uni
but its never that
no one with the minimum grade can get in
because competition
its all about how the others applying are
Hmmm
@dapper snow - What kind of experience do you have with universities? Just wondering coz you have such a negative outlook of them.
@sharp vale - To get into MIT, itās a lot to do with playing your cards right, and to a large extent, luck. And to paraphrase them, if youāre MIT material and you donāt get in, shouldnāt make much of difference in terms of where youāll end up. Youāll find a way to be amazing.
i have seen guys get into the top universities of all time while getting c's in a levels
and seen straight a* seniors joining a subpar one cuz they couldnt pay up
furthermore i have seen people graduate from these top unis and get no where in life
and people who graduate from public unis to work in some places they could have never dreamed of
its all about you
not the uni
You may have seen these people but what is the probability/percentage of these people
That you have seen
Out of all uni students ever
most of the people i know are like that boss
each one has a special case
one case is my friend and his sister
she went abroad in some high name uni in uk
she still lives with her parents at 26
Hmm
he went to an average uni here (he couldn't be bothered to work hard)
I hope you're not telling us all this to reduce competition for when you try out better unis
Jk
he also still lives with his parents but he has a salary well above the average threshold for his age (24)
my cousin is the one who went to the public uni
in egypt of all places
he is in usa now working with friggin microsoft
it really do be like that
its about the person not his paper
i am saying that getting into the higher stuff that costs hundred of thousands is a waste of money
ofc that doesnt mean get into a community college instead
Hmm
Hmm
i am also saying that because i see tons of people work hard and forget to live their life
Hmm
man what are you gonna do with the uni if you dont live a happy social life
Hmm
lmfao ok
Thank you for sharing your perspective on the matter
@dapper snow - American universities? Like MIT and CalTech?
Sure thereās always success and failure stories from either end. Donāt you think that in most cases, it helps tip the scales a bit more into your favour?
in my opinion not. it maybe different in other fields, but in computer engineering, its about you and the name you make for yourself
