Does your shortcut open directly from executable or does it launch the Steam version of the game (where it glows green in the library)?

Since Everhood 2 is a DRM-free game, there are 2 different ways to launch the game and create a shortcut for it.
If you do it directly from executable, you can run the game without Steam being open, it doesn't log achievements, playtime, etc., even if Steam happens to be open at the time when you launch it via this method. The shortcut looks like this on the left if it's directly from executable.

#

If you create the shortcut via Steam, then it logs achievements, playtime, etc., and it forces Steam open if Steam is closed at the time. The shortcut looks like this on the right if you're opening the game via Steam, and the game glows green in the library when you do so.

#

You must launch the game via Steam, and you must pray to the Steam gods that you don't lose internet connection either at the moment the achievement is supposed to pop up.

#

Sadly you gotta do it again if you want the achievement to unlock.

I'm not familiar with it, I googled it and just see people struggling with adding the Steam version of a shortcut to the taskbar if they are on Windows 11

#

Though you don't need to close the game if you die to GOD MACHINE, you can let the scene play out then return to title screen when you reach Raven's Hub
