I’m trying to figure out what rational numbers are because I forgot. In the video he says that 0.5 (with the little hat) is rational, but .54135… isn’t, because it goes on forever. Is it because of its missing hat thing that it’s irrational? If I put a hat on it would it become rational? I don’t get the difference between the two

Here’s a helpful explanation I found online! A rational number includes any whole number, fraction, or decimal that ends or repeats. An irrational number is any number that cannot be turned into a fraction, so any number that does not fit the definition of a rational number.

So 0.5 with the hat is rational because it repeats (that’s what the hat means 0.555555…) and 0.54135… is irrational because it does not repeat (no hat) and does not end
