Plato's Allegory of the Cave discusses learning, ignorance, and the process of questioning reality
The prisoner escaping describes how Plato himself is able to transcend and question reality as a philosopher
The shadows are what the prisoners see as the real world, but they are only the perceptions of the prisoners, hence the illusory nature of the shadows
The refusal of the prisoners to escape represents the ignorance of those who do not accept the philosopher's way of thinking that seeks to deduce the inner workings of the real world. Instead, the prisoners simply take the shadows for granted as their reality, and they do not question whether there's a mechanism behind it.
The answer to the second part of 4 is up to interpretation.
