I love the simple voice chat mod, but It's a little weird how you can hear someone from the same distance away no matter whether they're yelling or whispering. It would be great to have an addon that scales the distance your voice travels based on how loud you speak. I don't have much knowledge of this kind of mod, but I've seen addons that use volume and simple voice chat already has a built in radius feature, so theoretically all the components are there.

idt that's their point
they're already using proxi chat but they want the proxi chat range to vary based on the mic volume
so basically like automatically switching to whisper mode without having to use a separate keybind
I don't see how this the meaning you get out of that
Actually, the request isn't clear
i agree too, had to go and check if there's some addon to enable proximity chat
reads clear enough imo
edit: I take that back
the request is to make people quieter the further away they get right
not further distance = quieter output, rather quieter input = shorter distance
.
why
why would you want far away people to be loud
Doesn't proximity chat with 3d audio already work that way?
I can't even
If you're far away, you hear less
If you're speaking quieter, that becomes even quieter due to distance
quieter input = shorter distance is the same as louder input = larger distance right
I mean, if you're hearing 100 at 1 block and 50 at 2 blocks, if the sound is 50 at the source, you'd hear 50 at 1 block and 25 at 2 blocks
It's already range-based
that's what I'd've thought but I guess the curve isn't steep enough for them?
indeed
Sorry for the confusion, this is what I meant
The louder someone is the further their voice should carry
currently, are you not observing any drop-off over distance or is it just not enough
It is there, but it’s the same no matter how loud someone speaks
Here’s a very bad sketch of what I’m suggesting
It should depend on the amplitude of the mic input
that makes sense
but, shouldn't it already do that?
I'm assuming it drops off until 0, so it never "pops" in
well as it turns out, the default distance cutoff is 48 blocks and it only really noticeably starts attenuating past about 30, getting sharply steeper towards the 48 mark
so e.g. someone whispering at 30 will sound louder than someone shouting at 45
@mossy wing does that align with your experience or are you not getting any attenuation at all
yes
