#carbon to diamond

It would take ~1666 real life days spent in that single world for that to even have a chance of happening lol
if you got a few shulker boxes of coal ore and placed them all down you could maybe make it happen
Every time a coal ore ticks (a bit less than once a minute), the game has a 1/3,822,222 chance of turning a coal block into a diamond block, equivalent to roughly 220,000 minecraft days on average

The issue is that coal ore doesn't tick. Doing so could be catastrophic for performance due to the amount of ore in the average chunk
Yes its really stupid but funny
I specifically enabled random ticking for coal ore
shouldnt be any worse for performance than leaves and grass blocks
Ah, I had regular ticks in my head, not random. That would definitely run better
ah lmao
itd be a funny april fools esque mod
but coal ore isn't renewable 😔
Alternative idea: Coal ore and blocks tick more frequently, but only change if they detect a tall enough column of solid blocks directly above
I think some plant blocks tick unprompted anyways
I assume anything happening here would be random ticks
I... somehow did not consider that
simply do the same thing for like moss or something
let it turn into coal when surrounded by stone
after a loooong time
or if you want to stay to vanilla, use bones
iirc skeleton remains can have coal ore in normal stone and diamonds in deepslate between them?
