Surviving in The Exclusion Zone with some more threats such as an actual temperature system? Having to take shelter from the rain under a roof, or warm up by a cozy fire? Now the weather actually matters. But wait- you also want to create your own little camp in the middle of the forest? Or a whole hideout in an abandoned house you found? This is all possible with this mod.

The mod itself has no name just yet and it is a work in progress, but it has both of these systems. It is fully integrated with Craftable and Lootable Zone mods. Let's go bit by bit on how it works.

Base Building:
About +500 items so far can be placed. These include from little items like lamps, beds, chairs or kitchen items, to full structures like walls, floors, roofs or even doors. There are lots of types of each aswell, and many have custom functionalities or interactibility. How does it work?

  1. Open the quick access wheel, and select Building Menu.
  2. Find the item you look for. There are filters and subfilters to find the different items, aswell as a search function, which is preserved after closing the menu even! Click on the item you wish to place.
  3. Move the item around as you yourself move your character and the camera. If the item can be placed, it will glow green, if it can't, it will glow red. Some can be placed on walls, others can't. Press Q or E to rotate the item as you are placing it. Press LMB to place the item on the position you chose.
  4. You can enter Detail Placement Mode through the quick access wheel. This will allow you to set precise coordinates or move the item after it was placed. It will also allow you to destroy the item. When entering this mode, make sure you are close to the item you wish to edit. Then click on the properties button next to its name in the UI, it will glow the same colour as the small image under its name (for quick identifying). Edit it, and close the menu.

Through this, you can create your own small little camp, your own wooden cabin, or your hideout inside a bunker or abandoned warehouse! The Base Building part of the mod is fully integrated with Craftable and Lootable Zone. Many items you can find with Lootable Zone can directly be placed onto your home or your camp, such as the radio, which is fully working. You can craft your own sleeping bag to place under your also newly crafted tent, to sleep inside. Craftable Zone will allow you to craft lots of items that you can later on place, such as doors, stools, even posters, using the items from Lootable Zone, and you can even use the cooking system from Craftable Zone with the fires or stoves of this base building system.

You can even gather wood to make a fire!

Want to organise your base by stash? You can also do it. Say goodbye to having ammo, armours, artefacts, weapons, fifty medkits of each, bread and sausages all stuffed into the same chest. Now you can place stashes in your own hideout and even organise through that.

Temperature System:
The temperature system is based on how DayZ's temperature system works. You can disable this system fully through the config button in the quick access menu if you do not like it. Inside this config menu you can also tweak the many values the temperature system works with. Allow me to explain:

This system adds two new stats into the game: Temperature and Wetness. These two are affected by your surroundings, and even where you are in the map. The temperature is your base temperature, your own body temperature. Wetness goes up if you are under the rain for too long, or walk through water, and it affects the temperature directly. The temperature is affected aswell by the altitude (from down to up), how north you may be, the wind speed, the weather, and the time of day. You can seek shelter under a roof, or approach a fire to dry and warm up. This all is indicated inside a small new UI under the health bar, DayZ like.

Atm, no download links, will be posted when its finished.

# burnt lark I’ll try, yes. Although the UI for this one is a bit more complex than craftable...

Hey, even if at first it comes out and is only really usable with m+kb, I think that there are a lot of people who do use the option on Xbox or at least have one they can hook up if they are really interested in such an extensive mod. I for one prefer to actually play with the controller but I do use m+kb for the better UI navigation, and personally it wouldn't deter me from using it exclusively for that if it at least meant that I could still have access to it vs. not at all.

I wish the whole upload & approval process was so much quicker, I'd love to be able to do testing on the Xbox end of things for you and so many of these others I'm grateful to be following along with here 🙏

Small gameplay preview on the temperature system. Each temperature tier has effects on the player, as an example here, it gets way too hot because of fire anomalies and because I remain in there for too long, thus my character ends up with some effects, becoming slower overall, sometimes hard to see, eventually causing death because the symptoms got too much and some simple fleshes were faster than me. Keeping a normal temperature also applies effects, for example higher stamina regen, and the ability to carry more weight in the inventory, so the mod rewards that you remain at a good temperature. Thist has also been added to the mod, now thirst is a need, and if you don't drink, it also has its own consequences and effects by tier. Being too warm will mean you will feel more thirsty faster. You can also use different items to lower or increase your temperature: water helps lower it, hot drinks (from Lootable Zone) or alcohol helps increase it.

For those only interested in the base building, the Temperature System can be disabled or enabled as you wish, by default it will be enabled though. The mod also has a config menu in which you can tweak how each bit of the environment affects the temperature system for if you consider it too hard or too easy.

Just perfecting stuff atm 🙂 Fixing some things and ensuring all 3d models are well centered, they are a lot so its a bit of work. I'll probs release sometime after 1.6 since I don't want to have to do more extra work or have people suddenly find that things don't work when 1.6 comes.

Truly remarkable on what you’ve done for the community to help those get that tick for survival thrill and strategy gameplay. I myself am excited to possibly see this come to Xbox so I can jump into a fleshed out world with consequences, and ways to traverse easier without the need of heading from base to base all the time.Rad_Sign_Heart keep up the great work, myself and the community are thankful for your talent.

This is amazing work. I would love to see a tutorial or something showing some of the blueprint mods or scripts created for these systems! Your mods seem way more advanced than anything else out there so I really think your knowledge would massively help the community.

burnt lark
# wet harbor This is amazing work. I would love to see a tutorial or something showing some o...

Thank you! I'm not sure a tutorial will be possible since it would take a lot of time. Being honest with you, before Zone Kit, I had already done some things with Unreal Engine for different games and projects, but always aimed towards character art (as professionally I'm a 3d character artist for games), and most blueprints I touched were Animation Blueprints. But I had always disliked doing Blueprint things and stayed away from that whenever possible. STALKER 2 brought me to try it out again before Zone Kit released, and I slowly began actually really loving to do blueprint stuff. I built the Crafting Mod just out of curiosity to see what I could do. The Base Building mod was also being sort of designed back then before Zone Kit. Zone Kit made it just easier all in all in so many levels, but blueprint related stuff remained sorta the same.

All in all, blueprints for Zone Kit are basically Unreal Engine blueprints, so I just did stuff by trial and error, and googling when I had questions, or following tutorials of Unreal Engine in YouTube when I needed some specific thing cleared out. I feel now that while it is incredibly intimidating at first, it later on becomes a thing that comes from lots of logic and knowing what you want to do. I am loving it now, but I am also by no means an expert at blueprints, as I always tell people: I am an artist, not a programmer.

Imo whats most important with Zone Kit is to be aware that you don't need to always do things the way "it is intended". Its important to sort of feel creative with your solutions, more than always the most logical and "proper" approach, that's what modding ends up really being about. Finding ways to do things even if its not -the way-. One of my things when I create blueprint mods is that I do not want to touch already existing systems in STALKER 2. The reason for this is to maximize compatibility with other mods, and also because STALKER 2 is a game that's being updated all the time. If I want my stuff to be easily updated, its easier to create my own thing than hang from what already exists. Creating my own systems allows players to install my mods without much worry on other mods working or not. For example, the thirst system in this mod is held by my blueprint, it is doable in .cfg too, and it was how I originally did it, but it will be just easier to control it in blueprints in so many levels.

What I want to say with this all is, there's no "this is the way to do things", but rather you just gotta be creative with solutions. And that practically most tutorials you'll see in YouTube from Unreal Engine, will be usable in Zone Kit.

This specific mod for base building and temperature system has become perhaps one of my biggest blueprint related projects, and I am unable to show the whole blueprint because of how big it is, but here's a picture of a part of it.

# rapid perch Will there be any more details about the mod by the time of release?

When the mod releases, its description will explain everything, and there will be a wiki aswell in regards to how to do everything, both for the temperature system (thus how to survive), and the base building. I got a pretty nice video this morning playing with the temperature system which I may upload as another temperature preview

#

Preview I spoke of yesterday. Showcasing more of the temperature system. The previous showcase of temperature system was the symptoms of heat and how it affects in battle and can get you killed fast. This one shows trying to survive through a strong storm after making the mistake of stepping into water and getting wet, and the relief of surviving near freezing death by entering a building and creating a fire. Having items that give you warmth (such as alcohol), will help you survive through these harsh situations if you make a mistake. By normal, getting wet isn't -that- bad, but the mod takes into account the speed of the wind on different weathers, the stronger the wind, the colder you will get, and if you are wet, you will get colder faster. There's also degrees of wet from 0 to 100. If you are 10 wet, it won't be as bad as 80 wet.

burnt lark
#

Hi all. Wanted to give an update on whats going with my mods and the plans for the future on them all. I'll start honestly absolutely direct: I've locked all the comments in all platforms that is possible, I've also locked my DMs in also all platforms. For the past two months (specially the last), I've gotten all sorts of insults and demands both in comments and in private messages in so many platforms, not to talk about the inability of so many users to simply read descriptions or previous comments, which has brought me to make the decision to simply lock everything.

This is honestly for the best. For a month I have not worked on any of my mods actively developing new bits of it or even thinking about trying to do anything, simply because it feels like no matter what is made, people will complain and insult, it is extremely draining. I've been avoiding reading much in my threads because of this all. Mods are done primarily because the mod developer wants that mod to be a thing for -themselves-, mods are not done fitting to users, if they were, it would be an unpaid job. Nobody pays modders for making mods, we do them out of passion. I am not working for free for other people.

The discord threads of my mods will remain open, since here it feels like people are at least more polite and way less entitled. I did these mods because I wanted them, not for anybody else. If you have feedback you want to give, then be polite about it. Telling me "the craft of this doesn't make sense, it isn't realistic, irl it would be bla bla" is useless to me when we play in a game in which we drink vodka to remove radiation poisoning. Suggest things, don't say "your mod should"/"add this". Report bugs in a polite manner, don't ask "when will this work"- the amount of reports, where so many were incredibly unpolite ones, I got for crafting mod not working on Xbox when 1.6 released was insane and unnecessary.

I've been on a modding break for nearly a month now from STALKER 2. It is my favourite game, and I hate to see its community turning into whatever this is. I will keep updating my mods, adding new things and uploading new ones, perhaps in the future I unlock every comment and DMs again, unsure about that yet. However, I make this for myself first of all, I just choose to share it.

Craftable Zone will keep growing, as will Lootable Zone alongside it, loot rate will be decreased, small bugs will be fixed, armor repair will come with making use of the armor parts. PDA Radio and Gas Mask Overlays will develop along their parent mods. Base Building and Temperature System will eventually release, when its ready. Radiation Overhaul will also release when its ready. But these last two will likely just start with disabled comments too. Just a reminder: we all do this for free, in a game that's not even a year old, with an SDK that is still in beta.

I want to end this update with showing appreciation to those who've always remained positive, helpful, understanding and just nice, because these are the people that me as a modder actually value and honestly- what make me want to keep sharing my mods with the community. If not for them, most of what I do straight up wouldn't be public. So thank you, for being polite to modders, for being nice and appreciating what we do even if it has its own issues that we try to tackle.

#

I get that most people end up using the exo for its protection, I myself end up going for looks. But I think a nice way to design it is that even the bad armours can have nice things. So maybe one armor that you'd normally not use, has great protection against rain

#

Then you wake up at your shelter or at the hub, its raining a lot, and you choose to use that armour as to not get cold because the other armours provide negative protection against that, or not as much

#

And yes, anomalies do affect temperature

There was a small clip I sent I think here too, in which I spent a bit too long near some fire anomalies, and that has such downsides later on when fighting the fleshes at the start of the game that I actually end up dying to one because I am too slow

ssp 100 would probably be the best against anomaly temps cause well it quite literally states its built with some of the stuff made for spacesuits

Raincoats when? Lol

reef prawn
burnt lark

Yep. Atm I do have it also that the temperature system has into account also how high up you are. Not in extremes, because IRL its not terribly extreme, but way colder than on the ground. As in- if you could actually climb duga in the game, it would be very windy there and a bit colder, which I think it makes it kinda fun

reef prawn
#

i mean like this is literally a rain coat

#

with other things on it

burnt lark
#

I am currently working on a completly new outfit, unrelated to temperature system and stuff (its for lootable zone), so I may introduce some stuff more down the line like that, a bit more specific to temperature system or so, we'll see. OZK for me does sound like a great outfit against the rain

reef prawn
#

yesss

#

also the convoy ward armor

#

keep in mind that also has a hood

#

which seems way hoodier than the other armors hoods

burnt lark
#

I wish a lot I could have into account the helmets too, but I need to figure out a way to do it, because its not like getting the armour the player is wearing

reef prawn
#

but also ssp 99 and ssp 100 armors probably just ignore rain all together i dunno

burnt lark
#

Would be great if you'd also get protection against these things from helms and such, give some more sense to Lootable Zone's balaclavas or even the bandit cap

reef prawn
#

this right here

reef prawn

and cold you if they get drenched cause good lord those things hold so much water

burnt lark

I wish that was a system I could implement, like per armor drench stuff, but I couldn't find a way to easily do gas mask filters in a proper way. I ended up managing to do them, but not in the normal way thats most optimal for this all, and it wouldn't work for this specific thing

id assume the durability would go down if you get damaged in anyway like armors would but itll deteriorate faster and cause of craftable zones sewing kits you could use those to repair of you need, an unrepairable thing thats real rare probably wont get used if theres other alternatives

You can open and close certain cabinets. Ofc sleeping on beds. Or this one, drawing or writting on a blackboard (technically whatever you write or draw should be displayed in 3d, but materials being an issue as usual), you can also save whatever you do to your PC. Yeah this one will be in the mod. The way it will work is: On the whole map, you can catch common fishes. But each zone (so, Cordon, Wild Island, Rostok, etc), will have two special fishes you can get with a lesser chance. One you can catch during the day, and another during the night. Preview on the fishing system in the mod. A small overview on how it works:

  • You require a fishing rod + bait (bread counts as bait, otherwise you can get bait by gathering wood on trees). You can craft the fishing rod or buy it from traders.
  • You can fish in most big bodies of water
  • The fishing is simply luck. It works much like DayZ, in which sometimes you may need a few seconds, other times you may need more. As long as you keep your mouse button pressed, and have bait in your inventory, you will continue fishing. To interrupt the fishing you just have to stop pressing your mouse button and let the animation finish playing.
  • Whenever you hear a splashing sound, it means you succeeded on the fishing and got some fish, new bait will be used. Sometimes you do not succeed after some time has passed, you will require new bait. Fishing is interrupted if you run out of bait.
  • Each map zone has 4 fishes you can get. 2 of them are generic fishes you can get in all zones, the other 2 are specific of that map. Some of them you can only get at night time, others at daytime. All fishes have new 3d models.
  • You can fillet the fish if you have Craftable Zone installed, as such you can also cook the fish with Craftable Zone. There are new consumables as such, cooked fish, three different variants (according to size of the fish).
  • If you have Craftable Zone installed, the fish can be cooked with Lootable Zone's items, but if you have any kind of ovens in your base, you can go over there to cook the fish there aswell.

Nice! I think many of the players will enjoy that mod. I wonder if it is possible to catch a catfish. When I visited the Zone you could feed them. They live in the reactor cooling pounds. They are quite large tho.

Practically anything that has a wooden material will be considered good to gather wood from. You approach it with a knife, open the wheel menu, and select gather wood, and then you do indeed slash at the tree/whatever the wood bit is DayZ like

#

So you do not necessarily need trees, fallen trees work for example, some bushes too, branches etc

Nope, that is part of base building, but you will be able to transform the wood from Lootable Zone into the wood from this mod. So you can deconstruct something from Lootable Zone that drops wood, and still use it as firewood

Will this mod come with a sleeping bag style system? Find it stupid that we can only sleep in beds at certain sites.
