Listen, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is unique game, really unique game, you might never ever experience anything like this again. Modifications are good, of course. They keep community alive and some of them actually improve original game and gameplay. But, as i said before, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is unique game, it has amazing atmosphere, and big part of this atmosphere is graphics. You might like some of these fancy improvements, but you will loose right perception of the atmosphere. Better textures and shadow maps are okay, of course, but these guys are suggesting you to play with modifications which extremely change gameplay, graphics, quests, and other stuff. Those changes simply ruin how the game was originally planned to be.
Vanilla experience just can't be learned from mods. It's like playing Black Mesa on you first playthrough instead of the original Half-Life, even worse i'd say.
And i'm not saying this because i just want to make someones playthrough worse than it could be, and not because "ooga booga, i need to say something stupid because community aren't agreed with those guys opinion!!!". I've learned literally everything what can be learned about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. development and release game, and i simply want to make someones first experience, the most important experience better, not worse.

My Anomaly Crew has expanded! Meet Yasha Bulldog, who (head-canon) asked to join us from the Rookie Village cos he was sick of wandering around there & the Swamps. Something he's had me do like 6 or 7 times now...
He likes shotguns and has, recently, been given the title of "Pineapple King" after yeeting a Thermite Grenade into a group of 5 Bandits and killing all of them before anyone (us or them) got a shot off!!! 😁

Yeah. NPC AI can be both stupid (especially companions) and smart af. Enemies are dumb enough not to hide after seeing death of their comrade, but smart enough to see through all the bushes on location and one shot kill you, while your companions are just chilling somewhere nearby and don't hear the gunshots nor bullets, that fly to them.

Like enemy behind the cover may not notice you standing right next to him, animations may glitch, so they reload obrez like rifle. I also saw Loner or CS member, that played animation of jumping over the cover and got back after its end.
