Mercs are like a much better bandit.
More organized, powerful in both weapons and armor.
Though they don’t shake you down for your last dollar like a bandit at garbage would.

if you want to compare freeplay mods right now, you can try Call of Chernobyl by stason174 and Amomawy for yourself and see which you prefer

I don't generally recommend aimless freeplay mods but those are the two to look at right now, although I'll upload a translated Call of Chernobyl Back to the Roots tonight or tomorrow, which should beat both of those

anomaly does have a main kind of quest line, that are 3 branches of quests where after you complete the first branch, the 2nd one unlocks and so on
it basically takes you through the main locations you had to go through in all of the main games, although with its own interesting spin

they are interesting in my opinion and are quite long considering how everything costs a ton when you first start out

#

so its not really aimless as jester said

#

it is also worth doing side quests for factions considering that increasing favor with a faction allows you to buy better versions of their weapons and armor, with duty and mercenaries being the best for combat, and ecologists (obviously) being best for artefact hunting

#

and on the way you might aswell pick up some missions for other factions you're not focusing on increasing favor with, as upgrades for your gear do tend to cost alot if you're not planning on upgrading it yourself

#

its a pretty good and interesting mod overall

#

damage seems right with any weapon

#

there aren't any weapons that are too op or too weak considering their caliber and cost

#

although there is some filler in terms of the cooking stuff, I don't get why that is in anomaly, since I never seem to use it myself and find it too bothersome to gather up like 5 different things just to cook 1 piece of food that will last me like 30 minutes of playtime

It has story modes but they're not the main point of the mod, and what I've seen from them is the opposite of good

it's quantity over quality and isn't designed with any coherent goal in mind or so it would seem

and yeah tons of item bloat and mechanical bloat

a million cooking items, ten million repair items

#

and minimal sense of progression - early access to top tier weaponry, can easily acquire very good outfits too

#

and weapon balance is all over the place and so many guns have way more recoil than their real life counterparts

Okay, i've just finished my business in Yantar, what a surprise i had with the Vanilla Yantar. in Oblivion lost Yantar has a more natural lighting to it, you can feel the sun in that mod, but in the vanilla version is purely creepy. the fog, the gritty tones, the death vegetation, beautiful.
