What would be cool IMO would be a core character and storyline in an inexpensive game, and annual character+storyline DLC releases. Each one a full campaign. 2020 you're playing Nimble. 2021 you're playing Wolf's Story. 2022 we get to play as Ghost. 2023 we get to play as Fang with a major game engine update.

@potent bluff the x-ray engine is pretty solid for realism and smooth gun fight gameplay. don't forget to prone while shooting.
@gaunt merlin the gameplay differences you are feeling are understandable. it's a different game style entirely from metro. or any other game I can think of. I would not recommend the 'misery' mod for you. as it adds lots of frustrating fun to the game, after you've mastered the base game would be a good time to try it out. Just don't give up!

I asked because the way STALKER difficulty works is that bullets are deleted from existence the lower the diff. I asked if you're good at shooters because STALKER simply isn't as simple and straightforward as other shooters like METRO, despite being from 2007.
Both of these things can massively impact your STALKER experience and overall playstyle

Yeah, so that part of the game near Agropom is going to be quite difficult for you unless you're very resourceful, conservative, and good at the game. Additionally, do spray in the game. Ever. Theres bloom and you lose out on the perfect accuracy of a one or triple tap.
