This may just be personal taste, but I think for selecting stuff in the menus, especially when scrolling through lots of options really fast, the sound effects are way too loud and in-your-face. I'd recommend replacing them with shorter, more transient sounds like CH has

We'll set the sounds to be at like 75% volume by default probably

I was thinking the problem lies more in the fact that the sound effects are simply too in-your-face, if that makes sense?
Like if CH's selection sound is like tapping my desk with one finger, FS's sounds almost like the Vine Boom by comparison
So what I'm suggesting is not setting the sounds quieter, but changing them to something far more subtle
