While I understand that it is more work to maintain two versions of an UI, when it comes to dark mode vs light mode it is about more than just appearance. It is about accessibility. Did you know that dark mode can cause something called halation for people with astigmatism? It is a type of refractive error that impacts a large chunk of the population. Halation increases eye strain, and can cause headaches and migraines for people with this particular sight impairment.

As a person with this issue that's had two migraines in a week caused by Stream Raiders, but that still loves the game, I wanted to bring it up. Maybe nothing happens, but it doesn't hurt to ask 🙂 Looking at raiders with black background and white text, does hurt unfortunately.

Dark mode. Isn’t it marvellous? All cool and trendy and accessible and sustainable. Or maybe not…

That is interesting to know. I do find that light mode can hurt my eyes at times (white background is too bright) and need to use dark mode, and never considered that dark mode may be the cause of text looking out of focus for me. So if it is possible, please have both modes.

I have astigmatism and I agree. I could never understand how people used dark mode (and people always thought I was weird for using light mode). I mean, I like dark mode sometimes, but it def does cause issues for me, and I also have had many headaches and migraines, but I never really linked them to my Astigmatism!! thanks for sharing Gummi!!

I have astigmatism as well and I find dark mode causes less issues for me than light mode - light mode causes the headaches for me - so to say light mode is better for all people with astigmatism is not true. It is not astigmatism alone that is causing the issue. That being said, yes, the option form both should exist.
