On May 5th, 2022 while the first Elemental Event was happening, I got a little "annoyed" by wording in the Earth Crystal's Special Abilities which happens to still have that wording in the second Elemental Event. The Earth Crystals grant fallen units (both friendly and not friendly) a second opportunity as an Crystal Skeleton. The wording always made them sound like they would be Earth Crystal Skeletons, but instead they just had the default Skeleton design. So on May 5th, 2022 I redesigned a single frame (cause I was lazy) to make it more like how I imagined just to make a joke post. Well since an Elemental Event is back, I decided to make fanart of my little Earth Elemental inspired Crystal Skeleton.
The original pixel version I made was inspired by the Earth Tank as a colour pallet and uses a similar shape as original skeleton skin that the Crystal Skeleton uses.
The background in the drawing was inspired on the Elemental background, just more cell shaded and not as cool. Seriously, the background artist(s) did an amazing job on the backgrounds for StreamRaiders.
The fanart I did was originally going to be more skeleton-like and be in the mouth of a cave playing with some creatures from the cave. The cave containing moss and dibbling water, some life among the rocks. But that plan fell through when I realized how hard skeletons are to draw in a very short period of time.
So I changed plans and make a kind of out of it person who shares some similarities to the skeleton in design. The original plan would have the skeleton full of life, but the new plan was to start with life and make them more dead-like. I did want to make them a scary skeleton-armoured warrior. I changed that when I realized I couldn't reasonably get this drawing done if I went to literally having a person wearing a skeleton on the outside.
I thought it would be cool to do something interesting with the skin, especially since I was making literal rock and crystals grow out of their body, so that is why there is different toned patches. I believe the original skeleton had a wooden sword, but I changed that to a petrified stick to stick with the whole earth design. Except I made the shield wood because it looked weird.
Anyway, this person is ready to fight when the Earth Crystals command them to.
