1440p is something like 75% more pixels than 1080p, so it's a fairly demanding increase on the GPU to drive that in heavy gaming

It all depends on the PPI and the viewing distance. But if 4k looks good on like giant theater screens, that same pixel ratio isn't needed like 2 feet from my face.
