oh whoa, why did you remove the ssd @normal sail
there was one in my original list
i missed that when i scanned over it
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ws3V8M this would be a better list
The case is over kill but
The ram is also over kill but also rgb
you're the one who originally suggested the P300A in the first place, which is why i threw it in 😛
135$ for 16gb of ram
I WANT RGB
P300a is a great case if in stock :P
ye thats what I said
i suggested 3200CL14 for $104, jsut no RGB
that RGB tax is real
save some money here
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2fbNV7
add a few Arctic P12s if you want more airflow
But no rgb
https://secure.newegg.com/wishlist/pd/33629072 here is my build im saving up to buy all at onece
@spiral zealot I took out the ssd bc 2tb is enough for me
it's not about the storage, it's about the boot times and loading times for heavily used apps
i'd highly, highly recommend some kind of ssd boot drive, even if it's only 120gb for windows
You will want SSD
My roomate booted a "gaming pc" off an hdd, and it took 12 minutes to turn on
Yeah
12 minutes? God mine took 10 seconds. When I transferred to an ssd, it now takes 6 and some change seconds
He also had all sorts of weird programs installed, so that might have something to do with it
Probably
I have it to where only system files and antivirus turns on when I boot up so....
@halcyon quiver Do you need a mouse, keyboard, or monitor?
@sand falcon just did a bootup to time it, 4.8 seconds
Cool
what's your GPU?
or if I should just wait a few more months until the monitor market is less chaotic
1650 Super
look for 1080p monitors
It’s for PC and console
I would personally say 1080p 75Hz at the minimum (but I'm also looking)
and this is a personal preference, but I personally would go with either IPS or VA
how many other consoles?
I’m going to eventually upgrade my pc to take full advantage, but this monitor will be future proofing I suppose.
I have a xbox one x right now, will be getting series x
ah okay. you could probably go 144Hz then
MSI MAG272CQR or Viewsonic XG270QC
Both are curved VA 1440p
There’s hardly any reviews for the Viewsonic one yet but it looks promising
Only $50-100 more expensive than the MSI one
the Viewsonic is brighter
I personally would say the ViewSonic if you want a better view. I mean, the only advantage I see on the ViewSonic is that the display is brighter
@halcyon quiver I'm gonna stick these here so they don't get lost in the general chat :)
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vD8hXv <-- build well withing the budget
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N6s6f9 <-- totally maxed out build, $55 over budget
Viewsonic, now that's a name I've not heard in a long, long time...
Thanks, I appreciate the help @analog hearth
:)
Most powerful build there is. The no mobo pc
Your PC is in the quantum realm, as a distinguished scientist from Antman would say
Yessir. Power by nothing but pure quantum power. It can run at 12k with 1 tb ram with Ryzen 30 1280 core processor
only 10k
Give me like 5 minutes and I can double that easy
Yeah, you should have gone threadripper and dual quadros @mortal void lol
it could easily be more if I shoved a Thread Ripper in
i was looking at a 'cheap' TR build and it was still 1k+ even for a 1st gen TR build lol
i have no need for that kind of processing power, i do zero workstation stuff, but part of me just wants a threadripper system like so bad
the hell is a Quatro?
Think 2080ti but way more expensive
so then i went and flipped it and went to see how far i could push a TR build and keep it 'reasonable'
and hit 12k
I do photoshop and autodesk sometimes, so I'll have an excuse to go threadripper when I upgrade in a few yrs
@mortal void go with an ax1600 for maximum price 🙂
nvidia quadro cards are heavy duty workstation GPU's
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Nc6Jdm my build minus the water cooling gear
LTT just did a 32k 'mac pro competitor' PC build, and spent 10k on just the dual quadro cards
plus a titan RTX
Apparently you need a titan for output, so add that too lol
Imma go build a really all out pc
I use it for work so it was justifiable to me to spend that much
there I shoved a 1600W in there
and they kept it light with only 2 16TB drives and 2 2TB SSD's
Reason: Duplicated text
imma assume you tried to type like a paragraph or parts
Reason: Duplicated text
Reason: Too many infractions
L
So guys
Hewwo
Only 77k?
This bot
I could do more with a server CPU 🙂
And with more non pcpp parts
I mean why not go for 74 tb of ssd storage in your build
Reason: Duplicated text
I'm out
It's because the beginning of every link is repeated
So it assumes spam. just use PcPP
Sure. What's the use case?
Gaming only
Intel time?
Yep
10600k 2080 ti ez done
Yeah probably
Well could you use a 9700k because I can't find a 10600k anymore
What about the 10700k?
not in stock anywhere
Dang
if it wins the gn worst cpu award im not touching it with a 50 foot stick
So we are faced with 10900k or 9700k?
nope because 10900k isn't in stock either
10300 time
what about a 9700k
Please not the 10300. You might as well go AMD at that point
9700k is looking like the best bet, but AMD is looking kinda good right now with the stocking issues
But solely gaming
:/ it was a joke
He says he only wants gaming though
then why pay more for marginal perf
9700k is probably still better for pure gaming on that budget, but I'm not sure. We might be better AMD
ok, whats his budget
2.5k
and the 10700k isn't in stock
Yeah
none of the 10th gen isn't in stock pretty much anywhere
last gen isnt cheap enough yet
well, it probs wont go down in price very much
3900x?
i mean, it boosts higher than the 3700x
so single core perf is better at least
but you are getting extra cores for the price
Gaming though
as opposed to getting better perf, but still 8/16
9700k vs 3900x is hard
i mean, what are the real world performance differences
the rest of the system held equal, would this user really notice 10 fps difference
and would those extra cores end up helping more in situations where the game is properly multithreaded
He says hes a competitive gamer and needs the extra frames
ahh
So, no
9700k is it
No idea
1080p 240?
probably
if his monitor is above 144, get intel
otherwise, both cpus will allow the gpu to push out more than a consistent 60
Ye his monitor is 165 hz
aight, cool
ANYONE NEED A BUILD LIST IM BORED OUT OF MY MIND
do i get the money to build it too?
Lol
yo should i get a 750w power supply for 120 or get a 600w for half of that
like hmm now thats a dilema
get a 650w for 120
so find the inbetween for the same price as the 750w
which is gold rated
and i still dont know what that means
the higher the rating, the more efficient the PSU is at varying levels of load. for example a 500W PSU that only ran at 50% efficiency means it would pull 1000W from the wall to give your PC 500W of usable power.
80 Plus by itself means it needs to be 80% efficient at 20/50/100% loads, compared to 80 Plus Titanium which means 90% efficiency at 20% load and 94% efficiency at 100% load
Ryzen 4000 pushed to early 2020 apparently 😭😭
That's what I meant so disappointing, I want to build so bad
hey i’ve got a question !
what
is the ryzen 5 3600 compatible with a radeon pulse rx 5700 xt graphics card?
most definitely, if you're looking at a gaming setup that's a good combo
okay awesome. thank you so much
@wanton crystal Where is this?
youtu.be/r6_FXJBRf9Q. Its not confirmed but seems likely with the xt supposedly being announced tomorrow @sand falcon
Lol it's from gamer meld
Hi guys, I really need your help. I was replacing the cooler on my CPU. Now I can't boot at all. I get power and everything, but now all I get is the orange DRAM light. I've tried clearing CMOS, cleaning my memory as well as the memory slots themselves. It doesn't seem to matter what stick of memory I put inside, it gives me this issue regardless. It was not doing this at all before I did the cooler switcheroo.
Switch back to see if the cooler is the issue, doubt it though
the other side of the case
Can't even see a cable
Or the pointless sound dampening
Damn these PC
so i just built a pc and when i hit the power button all the fans turn on and gpu fans and cpus fans and rgb and everything but nothing happens on the monitor, and about 30 seconds later it turns off than just a few seconds after that back on again for another 30 secs anyone know what’s wrong? i suspect maybe a faulty psu but idk
guess i just left everyone speechless than huh
nope just on and off with nothing on monitor
Probs a bad psu
ok sweet
my dad also thinks that because he replaced the psu on our tivo because it was doing the same thing
and that worked
yeah TiVo it’s like a television thing
Ok
Not a computer so not comparable.
ok
I ended up having to move back to my old board. The other one would detect my memory as faulty, regardless of what stick I put in.
It wasn't the PSU, as that was working long before I did the switch.
It also wasn't the power cable, as I tried multiple cables and outlets to no avail.
Thanks for the help anyway.
@vestal sonnet it could also be a bios issue with it not supporting your cpu check you motherboards bios version and see if that version supports your cpu before replacing your psu alot of ryzen boards need updates for newer cpus
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/nKGBRk
My Final Build for the PC I want
@mortal void u doing video editing?
If your just gaming I would got better gpu and 3600
@mortal void u doing video editing?
@little leaf
Just gaming. I originally was gonna go with R7 2700X but the 3700X was surprisingly cheaper
and the 1660 Super should do perfectly fine for 1080p Gaming
@mortal void yes but there are better gaming builds for the price
Like 3600 and 2060
Or an amd equivalent
@mortal void You'd be better off with this
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/YMQ3Jb
Did XFX ever fix their Thicc line up? Was pretty sure I'd seen some not so good thermals on those
If thats the case, at least they fixed it
there's a disappointingly low amount of people saying the word thicc on this server
under 500 instances of the word
Eventually, when I can fit 2 360mm radiators for intake, side by side, in the front of my case, will I name it thicc
thiccc
And when its 3? ITs like big Chungus then. Probably all have quantum computers by then or something lmao
Anyone have a good 500 dollar build for stream and gaming?
Damn all the b550s are oos
@lyric thistle i made a t-shirt but i cant post image yet and the bot doesn't like me posting links
Can someone please tell me if this is a good build? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NwT4TC
did you make that build? "good" is subjective and varies from one person to the next
I didn’t make it yet
But I need something that is good for gaming and YT with a budget around $1.5k
when it comes to psu, i consider seasonic good, any other are OK
but that build is pretty good for the price btw, i read its better to hold off for 3080 since there's only a slightly increase with 2080 from 1080
7nm leap from 14nm (1080,2080)
But problem is I’m already dangerously close to my budget
btw i would swap the 1tb hdd for 256,512gb ssd for about same price but the speed is better and use it for os, the other 2tb for data/gaming, (maybe even swap for 1tb ssd for $50 more but the speed is worth it), but that's just me if you dont mind the slower speed of hdd then its fine as it is
Ok I’ll put in a few more ssds instead a hdd
ssd's are cheap now, can get 1tb for less than $100, used to be $200 a year ago or so
nvme's and m.2 doesn't really matter, i dont see any boost from sata ssd, my game still loads in 3-5 seconds
also, samsung ssd are pretty good, i bought a samsung pro 840 back in 2014 use it for gaming 6hrs every day and still alive going strong, way past over the 5 yr warranty, i didnt want to wait for it to die so i got a samsung nvme 970 evo, and i dont notice any speed difference even tho my comp benchmark says nvme reads at 3000MB/s
@normal sail do you have to get a pc now? best time is during black friday cyber monday xmas
It’s just that Im in a class for building PCs and I’m planning
AND I need something to game on during quarantine
Xbox isn’t cutting it
Ok @alpine sparrow how’s this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/94ttTC
yeah i feel ya, i got a new hobby during this quarantine, i learned to work on cars by watching youtube howto vidoes
Sooooooo... is it a good list now?
sure, question though why do you have two 240gig ssd's?
True
i mean you can, one for os one for gaming, and the hdd for data, its up to you
i have intel right now, im thinking of getting amd myself for my next pc build
Okei thanks for helping me
@normal sail how'd u get windows 10 for less than 100$
It seems like a scam, and it has bad ratings, but we got windows from it 3 times
Pro for 17
I got it on software-codes
How much?
@normal sail you can only use the windows 10 key once on one computer? what happen if you use it on more than one comp?
doesn't work
Can’t
Like, less that $20 for Windows 10 pro
so if i reformat my computer i have to get another key?
Though if you tend to break ur comp a lot and u always get a new one, retail version is the way to go
ah ok
If u keep ur comp safe, get oem version
I’m leaving if ya wanna summon me mention me
@stoic island so that case i was considering that you recommended came in
Its half as tall as i am 😂 idk why i thought itd be shorter
And im proud to say you were wrong about one thing
Dopest packaging ever
So, I've been wanting to up my GPU for a while to get better performance, but I dont know if my 2600x is whats holding my computer back? I have a EVGA 1070.
Is right now even a good time to get a new GPU?
Probably the GPU more than the CPU
Okay, I'm gaming at 1440p currently and I want to be able to run RDR2 at 60 consistently
Yeah, GPU will probably help with that
My pc case has 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports on the front panel but my motherboard headers are 3.2 Gen 2. Does this mean that my front panel usb are unusable?
Current System: i5-6600k 3.3GhZ, 2x8 16GB DDR4 3200, ASRock Z170 Pro4.
Looking to make a switch to AMD: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core 3.6GhZ, MSI Performance Gaming B450 Mobo, Corsair Vengeance 4x8 32GB DDR4 3200.
Worth the change, or are the parts too similar to make it upgradeable? Looking for advise, first time AMD shopper. 🙂
@vapid ether useable but there will be a bottleneck issue, Gen 1 is 5GBps Gen2 is 10GBps, benchmark it anyways plug-in a usb3 device and check the speed
How's my build? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/t9CJ9G
Seens good but the case is a little much
@alpine sparrow awesome thank you. That shouldn’t really be an issue for me anyways but I’ll definitely still benchmark
@little leaf one of the side panels is riveted. Should i be worried to do cable management
what do you mean?
the side panel opposite the "tempered" glass side is riveted so it's not a really open case.
There is no way that the tempered glass side isn't able to be opened
it is, but the opposite side isn't
It should be able to be opened
Both sides?
yes both sides
Okay the Gamer Nexus said that it's riveted
You sure I'm looking at the picture and the back of it is opened
I'm not sure how you would build a pc without opeening a back panel
@shy otter
This is in the manuel
how much ram did you buy?
128gb kit for my TR
@vapid ether also may need an adapter if you have different connectors between your mobo and case, amazon.com/Front-Panel-Header-Extension-Motherboard/dp/B077PNJNGJ
@little leaf which case do you have?
@shy otter that manuel is the case your looking at
yeah I just want a good case with airflow for below $100
It seems like no matter what there's always gonna be a problem
@shy otter if your budget is 1k and thought is gaming I wouldn't spend 100 on case
yes but
Is there a case as good as mine for 25% less the price?
you could use a mx330
@alpine sparrow I didn’t even think of that! Thanks!!
yeah usb 3 is a mess right now but usb 4 (coming out really soon) should clear it up, just like when usb 1.1 1.2 were a mess that later became usb 2
But will we see that on this new generation on motherboards it will it be the next revision
usb 4 is suppose to be compatible all the way back to usb 2, and uses type C (but still early to tell what connectors they come up with)
Anyone know of a b550 micro atx board?
wait if i buy the Adjust R1 with prisma al-14 fans can i change the modes?
so good!
Hey all, I’ve recently flashed my bios on my z370 a prime to be able to put an i9-9900k in it. Will my board be able to handle overclocking? I also have the kraken x62 cpu cooler
@ me if u think u could give some advice please
@rocky saffron Probably can get some overclocking, don't know how much
Ok thank ya
Hey everyone, this is my first build, so I got a AMD Ryzen 12 core processor, so the processor came with its own cooling radiator that mounts onto the chip.
So, i also got a H115i RGB Platinum water cooler
Should i disregard the radiator/ cooling included with the Processor and just use the CORSAIR?
Yes
Hi I was thinking of upgrading my pc but I have problem anyone help
What;s the problem
I'm in a position to buy a new gaming PC. I already decided I'm going to wait for the Nvidia 3000 series cards to come out and get the 3080 or 3090 but now I'm looking at the Z490 boards and the i7-10700K and wondering if I should hold off for full PCIe 4.0 support. However, I'm not entirely sure when that will be and what will that mean for the CPU socket and RAM support.
What do you think people? Hold off on motherboard, CPU, and RAM as well as GPU? At this point it's looking like I'm just buying the case and wait until the next gen of motherboards release to know what to buy....
Just get AMD. They already have full PCIe support, and their new CPUs should be released around the same time as the RTX 3000 series
Hmmm, I've literally only ever used Intel for the past 20 years....I really don't know ANYTHING about AMD boards, chipsets, and CPUs
Basically AMD is kicking intel's butt right now
What would you consider a high-end CPU core count?
10 cores
try 16
AM4 the latest socket?
I usually like ASRock motherboards. What would be your top manufacture for AMD motherboards?
If you like ASRock, they're just as good AMD side
MSI is also good
We've got a quick reference chart
You'll want x570 or b550 for pcie 4.0 support
x570 is the equivalent of intel's "z" chipsets
b550 is cheaper, but still supports overclocking
Threadrippers are best for content creator who do video editing, autocad, etc
Threadripper is kinda more like the xeons
But threadrippers still use ryzen for the architecture
It is great for multithreaded applications. Most people are much better off getting the wallet friendly Ryzen 5/7/9
Basically, with threadrippers you can get up to 64 cores and 128 threads
Most people will be better with plain ryzen though
Hmm, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X a good CPU?
Yeah
Yes, very
Are you doing anything besides gaming?
Well I mainly game but I also use my home PC to access my VDI and sometimes stream.
Think the 3600xt is worth it over the ryzen 5 3600?
Are they out now?
@wanton crystal I'm waiting for some more banchmarks
They got officially announced this morning
@summer belfry I'd recommend a 3700x or the 4700x then
Why 3700x over 3900x?
Mainly because you won't see that much improvement from 12 cores over 8 cores
But if I have the money might as well yeah?
Maybe, but it might also mean you can get a better GPU
nah, I put in about $1100 for GPU budget
Okay. What's in the budget for CPU?
Motherboard and CPU for less than $650
Okay
You might consider waiting for the next gen ryzens, or possibly one of the new xt series
You're probably looking at ~450 max for CPU
~500 if you wait for stock to stabilize again
When's the expected release?
They've been scheduled for around the same time RTX 3000 comes out
The xt series just got officially announced today, and will be available for purchase in about a month
What's the XT series?
We're not sure if XT is worth it yet though
It's a refresh of the ryzen 3000 series
Like how intel has been doing so many refreshes lately
Oops, I just compared the wrong two chips
Ignore that one
There we go
There's not that much improvement
AMD is just taking a break for now lmao
I've been scanning for zen3 leaks. I've got nothing solid yet besides that it will be better
Doesn't look like performance would be worth waiting for. Any features added?
This is the one that's out in a few months
Zen3 will see 15 to 25% performance increase
The xt series is pretty much just a slightly faster zen2, nothing more
zen3 will be an entirely new architecture
So new features, higher clocks, lower latency, all sorts of stuff
bah everything is out of stock
Yup

You're waiting for 3000 though, things should be back in stock then
but I has the monies now
You'll have more monies later and things will be faster and cheaper later
If you're waiting for the GPU, wait for the CPU too
le sigh
probably right
just have money in my pocket that the wife will try and steal 😆
That's when you put the money in a 2-months saving account
Is eBay safe to buy gpu?
Probably
yea just make sure its not a super sketchy seller
I’m planning my first PC build, and I want it for gaming and YouTube. Is this a good plan? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/72D3Dx
Don't use that monitor
that can do gaming just fine, for ryzen i would see if you could get 3600mhz ram, and 75hz is a bit low with that gpu but if you are not primarily gaming it's works i guess
1080p 75 hz will bottlenceck like crazy
@sullen spoke thnx ill update it
You should get a 144 hz at least
@humble rivet I have a budget and I’m already way over it
Oh ok
Soooo im just sticking with what I got
That’s cheap
Or else I’d be getting something better
Well, its that monitor, the one I’m about to show you, or both
This thing has a ratio of 1:1 and is like a 480p or something
IT DOESNT EVEN HAVE AN HDMI PORT
ONLY VGA
ouch

To get it to hdmi I use around 5 extensions
So considering that, the monitor in my list is a humongous upgrade
Yeah
But I’m probably gonna use both (its still a monitor)
That and my iPad using duet display
Yo as the gtx1080 T.I. for 600 aud a scam on eBay or nah?
That in aud
?
Australian currency
That's about what I've seen them go for around where I live
U live in au
Still no
Nah, Texas
Oh
But 1080 ti is better
But the 1080ti is a bit better, if I remember right
Gtx?
Although tbh you should wait for the new 3000 series
Cuz I never heard of the rtx 1080ti
Yep I think 1080 T.I. is second best gpu and gtx2080 super
Just wait for 3080 series truthly
@normal sail gtx1080 T.I. still a beast
But I thought the rtx was always better than the gtx
Nah
Not 1080 ti
@normal sail https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2070S-Super-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080-Ti/4048vs3918 just doesn’t have raid tracing
I plan to buy a 2070 sometime in the next month or so. I'd considered just buying a used 1080ti, but I personally dont want a used gpu
Thing is ray-tracing IS pretty cool
Yeh but tanks FPS and I would prob never use it
True
Cant say I have much interest in ray-tracing
Dead game
Shibe just wait for 3070
I doubt I'll have the money for the 3070, even if I did wait
I'm sure itll be a fair bit more expensive
Hmm
I wanna wait for drop so gpu prices go down. It I wanna upgrade now eh
Dead game
@muted dawn did you just call Minecraft a dead game
Yes
Not true
Anyone got the quadro rtx 5500?
If u play MC u have to be 15 and younger
I have a 1080 and am waiting to get a 3080 this year so I’d just wait
mc is cool 🙂
Lol agian not true there's over 100k people on one server alone
Expands the brain
If I get scammed on eBay and my gpu doesn’t work can I get refund?
No
EBay never takes refund
ebay has a money back guarantee, idk how it works tho
I hear ebay has pretty good buyers protection
But its not true
No returns, but backed by eBay Money back guarantee
I've never heard someone say they got scammed on ebay
Anyone think the quadro rtx 5500 is worth it?
Ni
Just get titan
you dont want a quadro
Gtx 1080 ti asus or EVGA version
evga
Personally, EVGA
Eh I'll wait a bit, but I'll probably just end up going with the 2070, unless they release the 3070 quickly, and around the same price
They probably put production on hold cuz of quarantine
My guess is that they wont release it until next year
That's what I think. So I'll probably just get the 2070
Yeah I saw. I do that a lot
Lol
I mean, its 589 dollars
Nah I doubt it
Scams are usually cheap, like 300
Hmm ok
USD
Should I get 3 fan or nah
I dont like three fans, but its ur choice
Yeh
I think some of them look nice
Most just look weird, I agree
That’s MY opinion
radiator size is also a factor with cooling
Idk about ANimal’s
All I know is I hate gigabyte gpus
I plan to buy a 2070, and probably a better cooler for me i9. Still using a 212 evo
There nice sometimes\
Reason: Bad word usage
:((
My 1660 has been good to me, but I want something that is a better match for the 9900k
I got 1660 super it’s to loud I ima just upgrade lol
Sadly I cant afford anything higher than a 2070S
But titan is as expensive as a whole computer
But I need to get a better cooler, so I cant even afford the super
U sure?
theo is a mod
Oh ok
Plan upgrade to 1080 ti get better psu, get noctua cpu cooler, sell current gpu and buy 144hz monitor
Wait ANimal ur in Au right?
I definitely plan to get a 2080ti someday, but that'll be a long time from now
Some shipping will be a bit.... expensive
I bought a 1080p 144hz monitor after like two years of using a 1440x900 monitor, and it was definitely one of the best things I've bought
@normal sail yeh just getting gpu from eBay and other stuff from my local shops
Nope
15,000
I'm also considering getting a VR headset instead of a new gpu
But honestly there just arent many games I'd play
If u are gonna get one DO NOT GET ANY PHONE ONES OR THE PSVR
Trust u will get bored of vr
Nah its nice
Nah I wouldn't get a phone VR. And I dont have a ps4 anyways
Ok good
And I think I would get pretty bored of it tbh
Not in VRChat
Gets ps5
I'm not much of a social person, so I dont play games like VRchat
8k ready gaming here I come

I doubt I'll get one of the next gen consoles
They are gonna be expensive
The exclusives just dont interest me
Oh btw I think they’re using an amd cpu in the new consoles
GTA v enhanced xd
I clue but it’s 7am for me and I didibt sleep all night so ima go to 🛌
Sleep well
Good night/morning
It’s 4:50pm for us
Soooooo I’m ready I’m ready
I meant to repeat
Once I get a new GPU, I should have just enough money for one more upgrade. I'm trying to decide between another 16gb of ram, an SSD, and an AIO
If you don't already have an SSD, go for that
If you have a decent air cooler I wouldn't get an AIO as an upgrade
I'd been leaning towards an AIO for a while. I'm using a 212 evo to cool my 9900k
If you have a 9900k it'd be a solid choice, provided you get a good one. But a great quality large air one can match an aio.
I'd definitely go for a SDD boot drive first tho
Alright. I'll get an SSD first. Itll probably just be a 256gb drive though
Something like this is super cheap: https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-MP34-512GB-Solid-TM8FP4512G0C101/dp/B07PHMJR4Y
or amazon.com/Crucial-BX500-480GB-2-5-Inch-Internal/dp/B07G3KGYZQ [don't buy this]
I'll probably get something like the first one
https://www.newegg.com/team-group-mp34-256gb/p/N82E16820331307
Here is that one in 256 GB
Make sure you have an m.2 slot tho
Yeah I do
K, just making sure 🙂
I'll have to reinstall everything though, wont I?
Yeah. You can clone your existing drive, but it's better to do a fresh install and copy over your files
But it's night and day compared to mechanical
Yeah, that'd be great as a game/storage drive, especially if you go for the 256gb
Sounds like a plan to me
Anyone like intel for gaming?
My temps are actually pretty good with the 212. I havent ran into any over heating issues
Well, my 9900k was free, so at the moment, yes xD
@potent prairie bx500 is bad
Whoops, thx for the info. Just picked the cheapest one on amazon from a reputable brand, should have checked the spreadsheet 🙂
Do you know of a good budget sata drive for future recommendations @little leaf ?
The mx500 is the one that is the good crucial one
I just recommend firtst thin in stock with dram
Thats the cheapest
Ooo, yeah def should have checked for dram [facepalm]
With the 256gb drive, I may also be able to sneak a better cooler in somewhere
@sacred sentinel Do you have a SSD boot drive?
I would add that in there if you can and don't already have an SSD. Good budget option: https://www.newegg.com/team-group-mp34-256gb/p/N82E16820331307
For PSU, be guided by https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40/
go for C-Tier at least
I need case recommendations, was gonna get the cooler master h500, but it went out of stock, need something with adequate cooling
Atx4, x570
Case recommendations are hard b/c aesthetics. but I hear the td500 mesh is good
@hushed radish what are your other specs
Aesthetics are nice but not really a big point for me
I have a fx6300
and 16gb
ddr3
1600mhz
@potent prairie
I know the fx6300 uses like 95w
I have one case fan
the 400w psu isn’t that goos
good of a company
You should be good
@potent prairie that’s not a bad price! I’ve never used an SSD before, but I’ve learned they can do wonders for speed, so I definitely plan to upgrade that when I can.
Great 🙂
Dang lol the black td500 mesh it's out of stock, may have to go with white

@cursive wharf
Is this an at all reliable PSU? @hushed radish here got it in a pre-built and wants to know if he should replace it when upgrading
came into possession of a 1st gen i7 setup, minus PSU/case. any use cases to make it worth finishing the build? or just try and flip it and move on?
erm, that'll probs take a bit to look into as I assume info will be non existent basically
Yeah, couldn't find anything
it's got a gtx 750ti in it now, but i have no idea how capable a first gen i7 would be in any level of gaming, even with a better GPU thrown in
@jaunty turtle ask here
Reviews I found on that psu say that failure after a year or two are pretty common
They all seem to say it works well, then just dies
Thanks!
I have a question, if the GPU I want is out of stock everywhere, but B&H says its backordered and expected on July 16th, does that mean that is how is how long it will take to stock everywhere else? (newegg, etc) https://gyazo.com/08a9c55a8740bcff44ab12a32208879e
If thats the case I really cant wait that long
It would put me out of my return policy for all other parts
I'll give it until June 22 to come in stock but if it doesn't, I'm going to get the MSI
i think that is about when places will start getting more stock. maybe not exactly the same time
@sullen spoke Does that mean that that card wont be available until then for all stores including newegg?
well there is no way we can know for sure. I say that because I spoke with people at B&H, best buy and guitar center about a few items they said they didn't have access to something like shipment records but it was a while since their last shipment, so my guess is when they start again it will be at relatively the same time
It is just a guess tho
oof
i mean like
i cant wait that long really
i already bought all other parts
waiting that long would put me out of newegg and amazon return
I ended up getting one of the items used, the other i am still waiting on
yeah, there aren't many other options except waiting
or maybe check local stores, tho i would doubt they have it
Bruh is coke good for the water cooling
no
Anyone know anything about fractal design? Looking at the fractal design meshing s2 case
haven't used them myself, but everyone usually has good things to say about fractal in general
Was looking at the 500p mesh from cooler master, but running into delayed availability
July 18th at earliest
Seems parts are running dry everywhere lol
Just had to go up $50 on graphics card cause the other went out of stock
And $100 on MBA for same reason
Mb*
Is the rx 5500 xt any good?
It's pretty good. Was looking at it myself but iirc it doesnt support ray tracing
That's what made the push for me to spend the extra for the 2070 super
The motherboard is way overpriced right now
Yeah i noticed im not really sure of other motherboards tho
Most b450 should work with a 3600
Any recommendations
I just have a really cheap ASRock mATX one
Works fine
You are aware that that ssd will take some of your system ram?
My motherboard is currently out of stock. Gigabyte B450M DS3H should work too though
It's a pretty solid build overall
Anyone get lucky in getting a B550
Does anyone know what to do? I got an lga gaming plus motherboard and the dram led keeps lighting up, it’s solid red. I did try changing the ram
@near garden yes
Should I sell my build for 4000 dollars
Jeebus, I think all the x570 mbs are sold out, except the price gougers on amazon
Odd question: What's the best hypervisor for running a VM of Freenas and a Windows VM with a GPU passed through?
So uhh, anyone wanna try and figure out this one.
To give some backstory: taken from the place it was built to my house and that’s it. Worked perfectly and flawlessly at the builder but did this right off the bat when plugged in at my house.
Not even 15 minutes between the time of worked fine at the builder and plugged in at my house
Power switch is on on the PSU and this happens when the Power Button is pressed
Bad Power Supply?
Worked fine 15 minutes before this
Everything turning on
Loaded windows and everything
Try another Power Supply just for fun. Troubleshoot it.
You must have a GamerMax psu🤣
Thermal take Toughpower 1000W
Could be DOD
I would just try and replace it with the Warranty
I only use Seasonic, EVGA, and Corsair psus.
I'd check all the connections coming out of the PSU, something might have gotten jostled on the drive home
Seems like a short
Which makes me think maybe a connector is only making partial contact
So could be bad PSU or bad component
Checking all the connections is a quick way to make sure that it's not something simple like a half-inserted plug
Also quick booting like that can be from CPU not being mounted with enough pressure
If a plug wasn't seated all the way originally and it hit any kind of a bump, assuming it was in the car for a drive taking it home, could have loosened something
Unplug one random connector and power it on
keep on doing that
till it stays on
unplug 24 pin last
@viral cave what made you bring this up lol?
🤣🤣
Y’all are amazing, I brought it back to the builder and he’s gonna look it over and figure it out free of charge
Rather him fix it since he knows what he’s doing rather than my clumsy butt
Please tell me he didn't watch The Verge video?
No lol
Reason: Bad word usage
OMG Thank You!
Shoot forgot bad words ain’t allowed
But anyways guy is a professional IT guy and owns 2 PC’s just like mine he built himself and has built countless others for many people round town
Sounds like a good guy.
Just cuz you built a few pcs don't make you a professional.

best performance to dollar for improvements?
so, i have these parts currently - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jsrVzN - all cobbled together from retired systems and upgraded components. ignoring prices, just the components themselves, is it worth the extra expense to get a case/PSU and try and flip the entire system?
@steep grove probably get a 1660 or a 2060S
And maybe higher MHz ram such as 3000 or 3200
I'm working on parts needed for a build and I wanted to know if the parts listed are alright and if there are any changes or ideas that would improve the build

(You are free to tell me if there are parts that are more viable and could possibly lower price while not sacrificing performance. Kinda new-ish to pc building so advice also would be nice thx)
Sweet :p just swapped my HX850i for a HX1200i and swapped in the new memory kit
I was updating my windows 10 and now I can’t open Settings. Anyone know how to fix this?
Any certain ones i should look at? Wanting to spending around 150 at the most. Goiing with a Ryzen 5 3600 more than likely and might upgrade later down the line when the 4000 series come out. www.newegg.com/gigabyte-x570-ud/p/N82E16813145168?&quicklink=true overall thought on this MB? Is there a better option?
@wanton crystal you could get a 450
I thought about that but i was wanting to go with a B550 or X570 just for ease of upgrade and not having to flash it etc
550 would probably be a cheaper route
So what features would i be missing compared to the x570 Im still really new to pc building (this will be my first). But as far as big differences are there really that many? annnd there are so many different options to choose from so narrowing it down just seems to be difficult
From what I've seen not much
Ok thanks so basically if i want a wifi one which ever one has at least the m.2 i want plus wifi for the best price and im not missing out on anything
GIGABYTE B550 AORUS MASTER AM4 AMD B550 ATX Motherboard with Triple M.2, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 2, WIFI 6, 2.5 GbE LAN, PCIe 4.0 https://www.newegg.com/product/N82E16813145217?m_ver=1
Here's an example
@wanton crystal
I just chose a random one, keep that in mind
MSI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI AM4 AMD B550 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard https://www.newegg.com/product/N82E16813144324?m_ver=1
Cheaper one
So as far as manufactures are they any i should go more towards or are they all about the same?
Msi tends to be decent
Asus/gigabyte ten to be cheaper
Unfortunately a lot of the cheaper ones with wifi is sold out rn
B550 is also recently released so demand is high
Yea i have been following releases Im not in that much of a rush just trying to learn as much as I can so i make the best informed decision i can
Ok thanks
👍
Personally rn id go 450 as a lot of the better mobos with wifi are sold out and probably will be, but if your planning for like 6 months plus down the road b550/x570 should be fine
Also, you could always get an external m2 adapter
I got 2 for $20 each
i really need a build with a 1.2k budget for 1080p gaming
plz help
Does that budget include monitor and peripherals?
currently gaming on a laptop so i have all gear
so monitor and peripherals aren't part of your budget
yeah i have em all
When do you need the rig?
amd is a better value
ye but compared to amd it isnt that much
exactly
like $200 more for slightly better performance and prob no stock cooler
How about you do an intel build and I do a amd and see what we get?
I'm curious now 🙂
Intel is $$
@little osprey Do you need wifi?
Do you need wifi. That will cost extra
hmmm
do you need bluetooth as well
i mean router is downstaires
so yeah i need wifi and bluetooth
my headset is bluetooth so yea
Okay
👍
That might be tricky right now 🙂
Wifi/Bluetooth adapters exist
i mean honestly screw blueteeth
ill get adapter ig
Lol
I'll see if there are motherboards, if not we can find a pcie adapter
there's a much better chance for a pcie adapter I think
ah alrighty
Do you have ethernet wires routed through your house?
no
Cheapest mobo with wifi pcpp has is 160
what is it tho
MSI carbon max
okay that's a fine motherboard
i dont have space on my desk so ill put the pc on the carpet
I'll put in in a build. You want to do pcie to see which ends up cheaper
No carpet pc
?
Put it on like a plank of wood or a box
Haha bob nice job getting back to golden
box is your best cheap anti-static surface
i feel like itll bnd the boxes
basically, yeah
bend
just a box
Make the box flat first
please don't carpet build your pc
My nice cheap ram is gone 😦
Ripjaws?
im selling the laptop right after i get the parts
just get a non-static surface man
If you build the pc on the bed, you will have no pc
a box is literally the cheapest no-cost solution
ok box it is
Yes
on tiles
carpet
no
i can't deny that one
Comfy is bad
carpets are comfy
comfy pc build on bed with blanket
or non comfy pc build on table on tiles
Tiles
tiles it is
Tiles
tiles
tiles
If you build on carpet/bed....
bye bye pc
build pc near fireplace for warmth on cold days
anyone know of better parts for this list
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zCcZmg
