Reason: Bad word usage
bad words
don't live in a house big enough for mesh or extenders to make sense so
I don't have experience with em
What about just buying a new router and plugging it into the ethernet port on my stock FiOS router
To see if I can get more speed that way
I'd like to get the mesh simply because I have a lot of family members with phones and TVs and handheld Wi-Fi devices
Thanks for the heads up anyway
:)

What would you buy first, a GPU, or a processor and motherboard?
thats the industrial loud af blowymatron kinda thing
Normal noctua fans usually arn't black
@onyx whale I would buy a CPU/Motherboard first
Because then it’s a general outline of everything else you would need in a system
like these hell yea they're pretty good, just dont look greathttps://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-A14-PWM-Premium-Cooling/dp/B00CP6QLY6/
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/catmancatplan/saved/#view=qv8qpg. This is what I've come up with
The cpu fan is a little overkill
I think I can get rid of the noctua, buy a smaller fan
The case already has a bundle, but should there be a fan specifically on the processor as well?
What would be a good future build for 1k budget? Also how long until those new CPUs and GPUs release
few months
Also would you suggest a Turing GPU for gaming?
@onyx whale adding an aftermarket cooler is your choice, if you do, go with a NH-U12s
I don't see why not a 2070s for gaming
pricing wacky on some of the things tho
I'd rather get a barracuda 2tb for 1/3 that price lmao
Also I'd rather suggest a Team MP34 500gb ssd
Honestly just ignore the architecture name
doesn't say much :p
Interesting
you can ask like RTX 2070s vs Rx 5700xt
there are differences in the cards themselves
but nitpicking the architecture is meh
its like yea rtx 2000 series is better than gtx 1000 series overall
Doesn't mean a 2060 can beat a 1080ti
Lol I'm on an i5 3570k
HDD
970 Asus strix
But using my phone. I just want to save a bit of money without losing quality
So I'm looking at AMD for the first time in 20 years
Instead of Intel, Ryzen 5
Ok so I recently rebuilt my computer and I am at a loss. I did everything correctly and hardware wise everything works but it takes like 30+ minutes of windows on the initial loading screen for it to actually get to the login screen anyone know where I should start?
@stoic island what are your thought on this item? https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-A15-PWM-Premium-Cooling/dp/B00AED7XFI/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=noctua+140mm+cooling+fan&qid=1589579664&s=pc&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzRUMxTFVKMU9YWEEwJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTE5OTUxT0VRMzdaTlNTMDZZJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA3NTU1NDIzUk44NDRDVURZMVc2JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
that one has kinda a weird size and mounting
its made for the heatsinks
not really for case fans
the NF-A14 works tho
The NF-A14 is twice as much as that corsair I sent you earlier and I was looking at getting two 140mm fan for top exhaust
Those run on usb ports? Or am I reading that wrong
perfect
idrk tho
hey
wait
yes
yea
this might be
better
since the 5v pwm is limited to 800 rpm
not too sure why
@trim harbor Hey man, did anyone answer your question about the slow loading of windows? There are plenty of things that can cause this.
@stoic island why are you guys looking at the 5v PWM fans?
Why wouldn't you get a 12v fan?
most consumer case fans are 5v afaik..?
12v are usually the industrial fans afaik
Link a good 12v fan if you got any
bc I don't know of any
I think they're all 12v man.
..?
If you have PWM you should be using it imo. It allows the fan to spin at lower speeds without stalling.
fans are 12v, led are 5v
nf-a14 is only 5v for some reason huh
It's a 3rd party 😦
Interesting
I hate that newegg allows 3rd party sellers now.
But you can't put a 5v fan on a 12v header.
huh
I like Noctua too. My favorite fan company. I wish they came out with ARGB fans though.
alright canned it
Also, you should look at the Noctua Chromax Black fans.
I never really noticed the voltages on fans.... rip
chromax goes out of stock quite often
and the other black ones are industrial
pure wings 2 might be neat
if thats in stock
Yeah, because they've finally made a fan with proper colors. The black industrial ones shouldn't be used in a PC imho. But there are the dark gray ones.
oh the p12 redux?
I got one of those in the back of my case
dont know if there are 140mm versions
Yeah.
The redux's
They're just thinner fans.
I've just looked them up. Apparently they're the same size.
Apparently it's just the fact that they're cheaper.
I didn't know that. I thought it was that they're thinner. They used "Streamlined Packages" in their description. Very confusing.
Idk
Also random question what would cause my games to now sometimes go black and stop going black then go black again when I move my mouse or press a button in the main menu or game?
Well, my case finally arrived. It's a bit bigger than I thought, but the glass side panel is in one piece. (I had a nightmare last night about it arriving with the glass shattered.)
it just started randomly doing so
weird
its not windows making your monitor go to sleep bc you havn't done anything right
it happens only in fullscreen mode for some reason
Anybody else ever had a nightmare about a part arriving broken?
@normal brook no nobody has yet
Like it’s not a slow boot drive it’s an SSD the same one I had in my older build it just takes ages it boot in everything else is fast
Is it possible your SSD is just reaching the end of its life? How old is it?
Everything is less than a month old
It’s only like 2 years old
The thing is it was fine in fullscreen mode then all of a sudden some games would randomly go black unless i switched to borderless windowed mode
@lofty sequoia are your gpu drivers up to date?
Yes they all are
hey can i get some help
it was fine then out of the blue it happening on even games that arent demanding
what's the problem @spice shore
so i was hoping someone could help me with a 600 dollar performance with 1080 and 90+ fps
because it’ll be my first build
R3 3300x + 1650 super
what else @fast dust
16gb ram... b450 mobo... ssd
Idk
I'm too lazy to make a list rn
If Mr1 is online hes really good at making lists
Maybe it's stupid, but I'm kind of eyeing getting some power extension cables in a color I like.(Hey, I've got a glass side panel. I need something to make the inside look interesting.)
He's kinda got the "I make PCPP lists a lot" label
@spice shore But I'd say wait for a month or so before building. Becuase of the virus everything has inflated prices or it's out of stock
ok
@cold sorrel I was thinking of the same. Watchout, some cables aren't made with the same quality as others. Also, some companies give you the ability to order specific length's for your build.
Cablemod
I agree with what Yams said.
That AND new hardware is coming out soon.
True. The only reason I have my case now, is because Newegg ran a free shipping deal I pounced on.
Who summoned you mr1?
Mr1 AX1Y wants a $600 build
I'll make a thingy
Oh nvm I saw it
how long can you wait
Make sure to use nepp 😉
It's really funny that that is the question right now huh?
eh
How long can you wait to game? xD
I can't wait
assuming 3300x msrp
Wait till after corona, or wait till after new hardware?
must game
There should be a sale in 10 days btw.
So waiting at least 10 days might be beneficial.
on what?
Newegg usually does a memorial day sale.
usually
usually
WD Black NVMe drives are on sale rn though.
And ssd's usually don't come down that much, so it's a decent enough deal.
@spice shore how much storage do you need
500gb ssd enough or do you want another 2tb hdd slapped in too
Would you be able to fit that into a $600 budget?
I would rather see someone get a better graphics card than a larger storage capacity.
today is a bad day
Quarantine is a bad time period man.
I'm honestly considering selling my 2070 and waiting for the 3070's to release.
I think I could probably get what I paid for it out of it because of the low stock rn.
B450m pro was in stock last nigh, so was cx450
Unfortunately I don't think I can afford to go completely custom on cables. It'd be cheaper for me to buy a premade kit. (Plus I'd have no idea what cables I'd need if I tried to go complete custom with cablemod.)
okay
had to cut a lot of corners
but this is 600$
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Jwrmjp
¯_(ツ)_/¯
thats rgb usually
That's a molex 4-pin
@zinc beacon , It's a Molex 4-pin connector that provides both 5v and 12v power. It's an older connector that isn't used much anymore. It used to mainly be used for hard drives until the SATA power connectors came into existence. Some companies still use it for peripherals today, but its a lot more rare as most everything uses SATA power now.
Ok well I've got it to power up but sone fans arent working and the monitor is just showing a black screen
Thats everyhting I have atm
@stoic island what was wrong with those fans again? why did i cancel the order?
didn't notice they were 5v and didn't realize 12v is what usual fans are
So buy the 12v versions?
if possible
@zinc beacon Put the other power connector into the graphics card.
It only has 2 8 pin connectors... 1 is in the cpu and the other is the one is in the gpu
What is the power supply you bought?
looking at that PSU im surprised they made it over 500W with a single pcie connector lol
im sure if I sold my GTX 1080 I could probabibly get $200 or more out of it....times like these usually cause things to go in high demand quickly...
actually from the looks of it I could probably get at least %50 cost recovered, and seeing as I have the box and it is still like new (low use time) possibly more
reminds me of the time i bought an rx470 just before etherium went crazy. i think i payed $180 for it back then and a few days later i see them going for $250+ on ebay lol
hey
yes
wack
i ordered my psu finally and it’s on back order for 2 weeks lol
still haven’t been able to get my mobo tho
i tried a matx build with my current system and tbh im kinda disappointed. its that awkward in between size that feels like its missing useful features you typically find on itx boards but at the same time its trying to be a full size atx board. its not bad persay just... weird lol
i guess the weirdest part of a matx build is the case. most of the decent ones are practically mid tower sized but theres some of those horizontal cubes you can go with if thats your thing. only real benefit to it is the possibility of xfire/sli in the smalles form factor possible if you can manage to get it to work these days.
I like the size of micro atx cases but I agree... they're a little awkward
i do alot with resin apoxy and drafted up a case but didn't know scale if i should go Matx for full
only matx board i saw that i thought was actually cool and would make perfect sense in the awkwardly sized cases made specifically for that form factor was that thread ripper board
Hey guys, what should I pick between the msi x470 gaming plus max and the msi b450 gaming plus max ? The x470 is 8€ more expensive in my country.
at that point it comes down to the features youre looking for
@zinc beacon it is your responsibility to make certain the parts are compatible before you order them
@modern shadow for buying "right now"?
Is a ryzen 3 3200g worth it or should I just wait until ryzen 3300x
@foggy hazel this was an incorrect replacement that Cobratype Computers sent me to replace the one the packed into my pre-built that literally exploded. Its a long story but I can sum it up...absolutely positively do not buy from Cobratype Computers.
ek sells pre builts with custom loops thats packing a 3600x and a 5700 non xt for 1900....I cant even
they do be looking nice though
guys, I need an ssd
any good ones you recommend?
1tb, can be sata, just as cheap as possible
tc sunbow
^ technically incorrect due to Sunbow having lots of rebrands
more likely then not you'll get a garbage SSD when buying a Sunbow
Go for it
Does MSI PERFORMANCE GAMING B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC AM4 support AMD Ryzen 5 3rd Gen?
It's the one board that's kinda wacky and idrk about lol
it can support it but might need a bios update if the board you get was manufactured before 7/10/2019
How can I know before buying when was it manufactured?
They came out with a carbon ac max, leading me to believe they arnt actively updating the bios.. but at the same time, the max board isn't on the market, which leads me to believe the new stock should have new bios... Things be confusing.
you can try to get in contact with the seller and see if they are 3000 ready. If it supports 3000 it should have a sticker i think on the front saying it is (although im unsure if all manufacturers are doing that?)
MSI is wacky with that
Since max and non max series
Max is confirmed
Non max they don't bother to tell :p
Anyways @shadow pond check if the Gigabyte aorus b450 pro wifi is in stock, that is also a good board, but with 3rd gen compatibility for sure
At least according to Gigabyte
Can't check on mobile :p
Remember seeing it in stock earlier today
The seller is newegg. Do you guys have a legit contact for them?
Should be 130$
Well the thing with Newegg is they have a lot of stock, you can't really tell if your exact board would be old or new
Afaik that is
does that motherboard support ryzen 3000 or of the box?
because i don’t have any other cpu to use to be able to update bios
it is out of stock unfortunately
Saudi Arabia 🙂
Interesting
A friend of mine has parents working in Saudi, but from what I've heard much of their stuff gets shipped in?
I had some issues before, regarding in-stock items in newegg
So I had to change my build just for that
And it sucks lol
Anyways the point I was trying to get to was what local website could I use to check stock, or what website that ships to you?
Like idk Amazon UK or something
Amazon delivers to Saudi Arabia. However, the items tend to be expensive with shipping and tax.
Huh
Well actually b450 pro carbon ac does have a bios flashback that allows you to flash the bios without a CPU
Shown here
https://youtu.be/iTkXunUAriE
In this demonstration, we’ll show you how to use Flash BIOS Button with MSI motherboard.
If you wanted to try that
Great!
@stoic island Is the ROG strix b450 a bad, meh, or good board?
saw a bundle + r5 3600 for $300
i personally like the rog strix boards and i've heard good things.
which b450 board?
@modern shadow the b450-f is a good board
so its a good deal?
but the I is a very smol board
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082L27J3F/ref=twister_B07W6Y1YFC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 yeah not good pricing...
buy them seperately?
I'd say so
kinda want the features, like argb headers and built-in io shield
but also want tomahawk max
micro center
if you have a microcenter nearby, you can get that mobo and a cpu for cheaper than elsewhere (assuming they have the stock) and if you buy both you get another 20-30 off the cpu. but its an in person only deal
If the estimated WAT is 404 should I get PSU that supports 450 WAT or more?
So I should get the b450f, right?
650w is great upgrade room
WOW r5 3600 only 160?!
microcenter has literally the best deals. and when they dont, they pricematch.
Yea
youll go broke
Im literally in LA
It'll be paradise
do you know how many times ive gone to microcenter for something cheap (like a roll of filament) and ended up spending like 200-600$
what is a compatible mobo tho
Lmao
my wallet says no but my heart says yis
for a compatible mobo with 3600, look for any b450 or x470 mobo with a sticker on the box that says "ryzen 3000 series ready" or any x570 board
what is sold out?
b450f
oof
last time i went to my micro center (like 3 weeks into epidemic) it was like fulll of those mobos lol
should I buy it elsewhere?
but they are probably low in stock cause of the situation
do you need these parts now?
if you're only 30 minutes away id go check out microcenter anyways cause that 20$ off deal is like good with any mobo.
I'm building soon
and if they have the stock, the people there will help you choose good parts.
just tell them what cpu you want and they can help you find good compatible parts
like i said, im unsure about their current stock situation, but go check em out tomorrow or something. they have some really good deals
K
Question
Is 4x 8gb ram better or 2x 16gb?
i personally like the asus x470 prime, and the rog strix 570 boards. asus is a good mobo brand but i believe the tuff series isnt good. other than that i think steel legend is a good board but im unsure.
im not sure whats wrong with the tuff series but people have talked bad about em i guess 🤷♂️
Im not sure if this is the right chat but i play games like overwatch, valorant, apex. rocket league, and a few more on pc. Every game besides Rocket League runs fine. Rocket League is my main game so this is a problem. It gets tons of frame drop and latency. Anyone know what could be wrong?
what are your specs
lmao not good give me a sec
so is the msi b450 gaming pro carbon a good choice for ryzen 3000 support out of the box
@sacred obsidian CPU: AMD FX-8320 memory: 16gb GPU: Radeon RX 480
i bought it a long time ago
so is the msi b450 gaming pro carbon a good choice for ryzen 3000 support out of the box
@latent storm depends. look for the sticker on the box when you buy the board. some retailers are too lazy to update it
im not knowledgable on MSI cause im biased against em. I know they have good boards I just personally don't trust em lol. Theoretically, all 4 (asus, msi, gigabyte, asrock) of the main mobo manufacturers have good boards. The only one i can personally vouch for is asus.
asus boards are just straight up pricey
i got my asus prime x470 for 60 bucks 🤷♂️
microcenter
impossible
they were on sale
🔫
@sacred obsidian did you see what i said?
yeah im looking em up right now lol gimme a sec
sorry
not good
but if youre asking for the latency
theres no issues on my laptop when playing
just my pc
are you using wifi or ethernet on your desktop
ethernet i use the same cable and switch it depending on what im playing on
i mean, you could probably do with a cpu upgrade but it should be running rocket league just fine .-.
what kind of stutter
if you can afford it, get a new cpu, mobo, and ram upgrade and see if that solves your issue. if not, youll be a lot closer to having a modern PC. I think its more internet related but if you're not having issues on your laptop then im unsure
what kind of stutter are you experiencing?
wdym
@tepid basalt the other mobo i’m considering is the gigabyte aorus b450 pro wifi rev 1.0, but i know i would need another cpu for that i just can’t decide
and im really close to just saving up over the summer and then building a new one
and i was also looking at the asus tuf b450 pro gaming
@tepid basalt the other mobo i’m considering is the gigabyte aorus b450 pro wifi rev 1.0, but i know i would need another cpu for that i just can’t decide
@latent storm any specific demand?
about size, feature sets, no. of usb ports, wifi, sound quality
that kind of stuff
that'll make it easier to choose
wait cyno, do you have any updates available for your gpu, and have you tried uninstalling rocketleague and reinstalling it?
how do i check for updates on the gpu and no i havent but i can try that
(sorry im not very educated in this stuff but im trying to get there)
i’m basically just looking for an atx mobo that has wifi built in in case i need it and at least one m.2 slot and preferably ryzen 3000 support @tepid basalt
i haven’t even thought about sound
it may not help but its worth looking at. As far as AMD cards, im unsure. For nvidia theres an App that you would launch called geforce experience, and you just click drivers and download if there is one available. Maybe its the same on AMD? .-.
sorry i don't use AMD gpus
you can go to device manager> display adapters> rightlick you gpu and click update drivers according to google. haven't done it that way before tho lol
oh no radeon gpus totally do have software for updating drivers like nvidia does. you shuold have an app called radeon settings
I really want your opinion about this build
which build
i’m basically just looking for an atx mobo that has wifi built in in case i need it and at least one m.2 slot and preferably ryzen 3000 support @tepid basalt
@latent storm what cpu will you use?
@sacred obsidian Thanks for the help. ill see what i can do
alright good luck lemme know if things improve
this build
AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor
MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX AM4 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory
Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Seagate BarraCuda 120 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Asus Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB STRIX Gaming OC Video Card
Deepcool Gamer Storm MACUBE 310 ATX Mid Tower Case
Corsair VS 650 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
Sorry for the delay
@tepid basalt i have a ryzen 5 3600
if you don't mind mATX, you can choose either b450m steel legend or the mortar max
@tepid basalt i have a ryzen 5 3600
@latent storm if you want ATX, steel legend ATX will be a good choice
Okay, what is the difference between the 3600 and 3600X?
better bin
@stoic island
is that an m.2 slot?
but because u say you'll use 3600, it's totally fine
on the newegg spec list it says “amd promontory b450” does that mean anything?
@shadow pond just a slightly higher boost clock
I'm not sure I know what that means
3600x is barely better honestly
alright and one more wuestion
question
how many fan headers does the steel legend have
yeah
i asked google and it said 3
and also you can download the manual
Amazon crappy spec sheet won't, just a warning
that’s a problem
@latent storm check Newegg spec sheet lol
Lots of times it's like 1 CPU fan header 1 pump header 1 extra CPU fan header and 3 chassis fan headers
6 usable headers
you should have the habit to read the manual
you can download it free on the support page
Nahh neva
you lazy
Newegg spec sheets so good you don't need to download em
it just tell you the number
the positions of the headers are also a thing to consider
does this mean 6 headers?
some boards has really dumb fan header positioning
also most of them have the same layout
Rgb is not the same :p
i'm dumb with light so that I can't help
Rgb 5v and fans 12v aparently
Can't wait for my mobo and gpu
Could someone help me find a better gpu I have a GIGABYTE Radeon RX 5500 XT OC 8G right now I'm looking for something else
alright i’m locking in that board i’m tired of switching
hello yallllll
what case for airflow and expansion if i wanna maybe put a 360mm radiator in it
Cpu: 3700x
Mobo: Tomahawk max
Ram: Ripjaws v 32gb 3600mhz cl16
GPU: 2070 super most likely or 5700XT
Storage: Unknown
Case i'm looking at: p400a
PSU: unknown
Budget: roughly 2k
HELP ME OUT HERE
help on the psu would also be welcomed please tag and or DM
also would like to hear some arguments and opinions on 2070 super and 5700xt
AMD going Powercolor and Nvidia going EVGA
looking for best temps
@silent fractal 2070 super > 5700xt, especially since youre going with EVGA.
RTX, NVENC, less driver issues
its a nice to have
¯_(ツ)_/¯
also temps will be better on 2070 super iirc
5700xt gets kinda hot
power color doesnt
just dont get evga black
and the driver issues have been fixed also the 5700xt outperforms the 2070s now
not sure the performance gap is worth the premium is all
the 3000 series will be the true rtx cards
wait... so if u know all this info why did you ask for opinion? lol
because I wanted to see if anyone has used both or knows things I dont?
the power difference between either is pretty much negligible, amd does still have some driver issues but very minor ones. 2070S does have nvenc and the ray tracing. but it pretty much comes down to, which one do you want more
also i see nothing that says 5700 xt is slightly faster. 2070s is still slightly faster by at least 6% which is still pretty much nothing.
nvenc is a video encoder so you can do things like stream or record without taking a huge CPU hit. if you want to ever stream or record, go nvidia, it helps. if you dont, its up to you
the selling point is 5700 xt is still really good and 100$ cheaper
Well rtx3000wont be here for at least a couple of months
i wont be able to upgrade in a couple months thats the thing haha
the latest video by them on this channel just shows them both going back n fourth between diff games. thats not really that abnormal. theyre both good cards but it can still be worth it for the nvenc and rtx, and the better drivers. But its still pretty much up to you.
If you can wait til this pandemic is over, prices will go back to normal, stocks will come back, and by that time the next things might be out or we might at least have more info on them. if you can afford to wait, I would.
Your also kinda future proofing because most likely more games will start supporting ray tracing
yeah but he made a pretty good point earlier. even on the 2070 super, ray tracing seems to be playable but not amazing. the next generation will likely have much better support.
@sacred obsidian I got 2070s in cod runs 1440p rtx ultra at 100fps ish
i mean its still a really good card.
it was like a lab rat test
cod doesnt do ray tracing tho
At 4k with raytracing starts getting a little bad at like 50-60 fps but 1440ps fine
the demos i've seen tho showed it doing like at best about 80fps which is more than playable but not the 144hz everyone wants
now i want modern warfare >.>
but ideally the next generation of high end gpus will be able to do the 1440p at 144hz while still doing ray tracing and such
but ima get that game and try it
Any advice on what I should buy for around 1k
I’m trynna build something for the future and eventually upgrade it
I would wait for the next generation of pc parts, Intel's 10th gen CPUs and ryzen 4000 will be out later this year and with the announcement of the Ampere architecture Nvidia's next gen cards should be out soon as well. But right now with the inflated prices and scarcity of parts it is a bad time to build. @zealous wolf
Can someone build me a part list for a 1,5k build? Maybe with a white case?
I don't wanna bother anyone, just if you have a moment
Gaming
Ok
Gimme a minute
@zinc beacon
Has a white theme
Other people can help, just barebones build
changed mobo to one with white accents, about $20 cheaper; with a $2k budget you can get a 2080s so i threw that in there, also white; doubled your ssd storage; still under budget
i was kinda assuming you wanted a white theme since that’s what i like anime gave you
@zinc beacon i forgot to @ you my bad
Thank you!!
All of you! I sincerely appreciate it
The airflow on the case looks great too
If I could get this for about $70, would that be worth it?
I would have to replace the case, power supply, GPU, RAM, and HDD
I know 1366 mobos go for a lot
But this motherboard only supports i7 CPUs, so I couldn’t throw a 6 Core Xeon in there.
I am building a pc soon, idk what parts to get. I only want to spend around 500 dollars
soon my labtop is going to die lol, it keeps doing weird stuff
If things are in stock at a good price, you can do well.
I imagine a 3300x 1650 build
@celest fjord ok thank you
@stoic island u know why almost all mobo at micro center is sold out online?
no
usually its only in-store pickup
I know, but it also says sold out on the store page
@stoic island any good b450 mobo with argb headers?
Steel legend?
Im trying to build a pc for the first time, and i've run into an issue
there's 12 pins for the CPU power, 8Pin for CPU power 1 and 4Pin for CPU power 2
the motherboard is on with CPU Power 2, GPU, and the 24Pin connected
but as soon as I plug in the 8Pin, the mobo turns off
anyone know what to do?
Plug it in while the computer is turned off
Don’t plug it in while it’s turned on
Wait what?
To power the other 8 pin, are you using a PCIe connector?
No
What power supply and mobo you got?
MSI MPG X570 gaming pro carbon WiFi, and a Corsair RM650
I’m using the cables labeled CPU for the cpu power
So what I’m understanding is that there are two CPU power plugs, but when you plug one of them in, the computer doesn’t work
yeah
What CPU do you have
ryzen 7 3700x
What about just the 4 pin
that works fine
Have you played any games while just the 4 pin is plugged in?
Or stressed the CPU at all?
You only need the 8 pin
check the front panel connections
4 pin is extra
^
the real tiny 2 pins
Im test benching, I don't have anything in the case
well the motherboard has a passive red light when its connected to power
but it went away as soon as I plug the 8 pin in
@still musk because that red light is diagnostic LEDS
To turn the pc on, tap the front panel headers with a screwdriver
that just means the mobo has power, but how are you trying to turn it on.
5v is both rgb and argb it looks like
no no, dont just randomly tap pins
You need to tap the power switch header
Hey what do I do if I can’t find power led positive and negative in my case
@coral prairie the power LED is not always included in all cases.
^
Power SW however, should always be there.
just pull power
Yea I got hdd audio power switch and hdd led
okay
Flip the power supply switch
Should I have a restart switch?
Some cases don’t have it
@still musk i would strongly suggest that you open the manual and have a read :)
I believe
correct @fast dust
Ok so do I need to get an adapter or something
the trident z royals are soooooo nice
Nope you don’t
i might have to get some
@coral prairie lets start with you telling us which case and which mainboard
okay Naed, thanks
Case - phanteks enthoo pro m tg
Main board- msi B450 a pro max
hm, based on their pages gallery, there should be both a reset and power switch in that case
I only found power switch
All you really need is a power switch
so, there is NO reset button
Ok so I just need power
correct
If I had an unlimited budget, I'd definitely get the silver Trident Z Royals...
Ok than you @foggy hazel and @fast dust
Yep
you are very welcome @coral prairie
What's the difference between an i5 and an i7? Other than the numbers of course lol
I may end up talking myself into the regular Trident Zs. They're still nice looking.
How do I get rid of this bubble in my CPU block?
@zinc beacon i5s are generally mid range and i7s are high end. I7s usually have more cores and/or threads
Basically i7 better
Well I bought an i7 but some were saying that its old?
From worst to best intel CPUs: Celeron, Pentium, i3, i5, i7, i9
What i7 is it
Like what’s the specific model @zinc beacon
@zinc beacon are you the one with the 3000 series intel?
Well it’s a quad core...
Looks to be maybe 3rd to 6th gen??
Yes it’s a little old
Wait you bought that?
Doesn’t your old computer have a GTX 1070?
Yes
I know. They screwed me. Lol
@potent prairie with the help of physics
Then... why’d you buy it?
If I could return it, I would and build my own.
Did you just recently buy it?
I was just then looking into the entire pc aspect for the first time
I've had it for 66 days
Wow
and my psu blew up ( long story) and I'm still waiting on them to send me a correct one (another long story)
Definitely should have run it by us... we could tell you if it’s good or not
@foggy hazel
Haven't had a course on that yet, but I'm a physics major ;)
Care to elaborate?
Yeah I was helping you with the PSU Omega
Or I was there
My previous name was Yeast if you remember
And just take parts from this one
@potent prairietilt the machine until you get that bubble moving
That would be a waste though...
this is ofc recommended to be done with the machine off
your goal is to get that bubble somewhere that it can be vented out of the loop
I don't have the Mobo hooked up. Does it matter if the pump is on?
your choice on how you do it really
Should my build run games at optimal and Beautiful settings as I have it?
but, you have not cycled the water at all yet @potent prairie ?
Like 20 mins
okay, so that is the "leftover" air in the loop
then i would recommend that you have a look at some videos on how to get bubbles out of loops
Hell yea.
not that i cant talk you through it, but it will sound fairly bonkers some of it :)
Warzone won't push it too far?
Im a little gun shy provided the first time I started game it exploded lol
you are very welcome @potent prairie
and best of luck and i hope your arms are strong :)
I can run warzone at high settings 60 FPS on my RX 570 @zinc beacon
So no
Warzone will run fine
Hell yes
Heh, yeah. I need it for this beast
Awesome. Did some tilting and shaking and I got all the big ones out
now, turn it on and try to not get cross-eyed while looking for bubbles
not really :)
but yeah, turn on the system so the water can circulate and tilt it back and forth again
Rgb always pays off
carefully
It gets you more FPS
So... No post. Got rgbs and fans spin
Post code a2
It flashes like 10 post codes before setting on a2
I googled a2, saw that removing secondary drives may help. It didn't

It's a Maximus xi hero
Looks like it was the monitor. I tried a different one and I can get into bios. Will keep y'all updated
Hmmm. Would CPU fan error (b/c custom cooling) prevent windows from booting on a pre installed drive?
your question is not the "full" question @potent prairie
cpu fan error can stop the POST process
Well, idk how... But I got into windows.
which you can fix by going into the bios and disabling that if you want, OR hooking up a different fan to that specific header
but that is all the impact that specific error has
Alright. Well, I think I'm set. I was so worried my Mobo was bad
Thanks so much for your help :)
Will do
and you are, as always, very welcome
Hi Naed @foggy hazel waves
ello @pastel briar
NZXT H710 case alternatives ?
Trying to install my micro atx mobo onto a mid tower v200 tg rgb case and I have to kinda push it towards the io shield
Is that kinda normal
The motherboard is gigabyte b450m ds3h
@sudden solstice yes, there are metal pieces that acts like "springs" on the IO shield
check that there arent any that have been bent so they block any of the ports
Hey, will Corsair Vengeance LPX ram fit on any Noctua setup? I hear RAM size is an issue with some Noctua fans/fan mounts
DDR4-3600
I was told by a friend that I should get two more fans, because it can fit 10 but comes with three
I'm looking into knocked off fans on that tomahawk board but I go to some sites and it says RAM clearance is an issue with that board sometimes.
Noctua" fans* not knocked off -- voice to text. I'll stop chat flood now.
@onyx whale i dont see a clearance issue in your listed build
@onyx whale Nor do I see any issues.
I've also messaged Noctua themselves since my case isn't listed with the other Corsair Carbide models
Which 2070 supermodel is good?
Do you guys think my setup is decent? I came up with it from the top of my head. I only adjusted a few things and got help from you all. I have a 500psu bronze. I'm upgrading to a silver 650 when I can find one. Do you suggest ordering the PSU from Corsair themselves or Amazon/Newegg
and I was told I should build the PC in pieces as opposed to all at once. should I buy the motherboard and processor first or the video card?
which 2060 would u guys recommend? EVGA Gaming KO 2060 or the MSI 2060 Ventus? The case would be the h510 and that might have a impact on the 2060 KO because it is small.
bbvnhg
One more thing. The CPU fan I looked up on Noctua is compatible with the d450 tomahawk, does that mean it would be compatible with the b450 tomahawk Max?
One of my friend said yes, but I'm just double-checking
B450*
I'm just happy to be upgrading from my i5-3570k to Ryzen 5 3600X
According to some pages it's 18* faster
When are the new B550 motherboards coming out again, are they suppose to be budget?
I'm not sure I'm going to get that knocked away CPU cooler because the Ryzen 5 3600X comes with a wraith spire cooler
Noctua* not knocked away
@queen tulip no they are gonna be around the same price as x570 lowest price prob being $150 USD
which sucks
wow they are not gonna be budget at all then, the new ryzen 3 3300X still has support with the B450 then right?
is the crucial p2 NVMe SSD good?
it's 'decent', specs are alright if you can get it cheap (~100 or so). @modern shadow
actually it's using hmb not dram hmm
iffy
not great
how about the 500gb version
how much does it cost
65
cuz going to micro center tmr
all of their b450 is sold out tho
I cant get that 20 dollar discount
p2 is bad
the 500gb is even worse bc of qlc
slow speeds and relys on hmb other than dram
Do bronze silver gold and platinum PSU's matter? What's the difference between them. What's the difference between a Corsair RM650X and a Corsair RM650 PSU?
a little extra kick?
Looking into it, the 650 is made of Chinese parts and the 650X is made with Japanese parts
Yea thats the difference between RM and RMx
RMx has better Japanese caps
but thats about it
bronze, silver, gold, etc. is the efficiency rating
@onyx whale bronze, silver, gold, platinum only means efficiency, protections and other features matter a lot beyond just the efficiency
Is the RMX worth the extra money in your opinions?
So I finished building, but response times for things to open were kind of slow. Is that normal because of all the updates preparing in the background, or did I mess something up
My cpu and ram were detected just fine, so idk.
sorry for these questions btw, I’m new to all of this
Usually it's about 10$ more, it's worth it. If it's say 30$ more or something ridiculous, RM has nothing wrong, RMx just a bit better.
@still musk you have windows on a ssd correct?
Yeah
I asked a couple people and they said their pc ran slow until updates and drivers were all done
Yea
So I’m going to assume this might be normal
Once drivers and updates are done, and it's still slow, it might be an issue
but
Drivers (lack thereof) and updates can slow down the pc.
Okay cool
Could you suggest a similar PSU or is Corsair the way to go do you think? I have a Corsair 500 bronze in mine right now, it's 8 years old.
I'm thinking about getting that 650 to 850
750w+ RM(x) is a waste. If you're going 750w get good multi rail or something high end. After all, a PC that needs a 750w PSU is going to be 3K+
Nice!
I like comparing customer service, myself. But I guess it's only after the fact right?
Well, customer service only does so much. No PSU customer service will help you much if your PSU explodes for example or kills your components.
True
hehe mine recently sploded. luckily it was an inductor that failed which means the cap absorbed the brunt of the surge
Thermaltake seems to have some good selections so does be quiet
The build I made is dead silent and it’s weird... like you can’t hear anything even in games that you play for a while
Not a very power hungry build so it doesn't output that much heat @wary geode
Yeah makes sense but it was just so weird cause I’m used to a little bit of sound
I'm used to a lot of sound lol
Well you experience new things each build 😂
Yep
Can a ryzen 5 3600 run with a 450w psu
Thanks

Do you guys think the cost is worth the setup? That I came up with?
I'm going to buy the GPU afterward
I appreciate it. Do you think the new thermal take RGBs would be better than the Corsair PSU?
Sadly the price went up but still is better for 3 bucks
From what I understand the same manufacturer creates the product but then they just slap a Corsair sticker on it?
I dont know much about thermal take psu's but that corsair is a fairly good model so your fine
Also that hdd is very overpriced
What is sold out everywhere?
I'm just going to make a modified list real quick for you
From what I understand with the 2070 super you need at least a 650 watt PSU
Not rly
you could honestly run a 2070 super and 3600x off a 500w
But 650w is a good middle ground for future proofing
You can run a 3950x+2080Ti off a good 550w
so you really dont need all that much wattage
I just want to do some 1440 gaming at like 60 to 80 FPS really. That's why I'm looking into the 650 watt, my 500 is 8 years old and I'm pulling temperatures into the hundreds of degrees, my own fault for being terrible at cleaning the inside of my computer. I know for a fact that I need paste but I'd much rather just disassemble it piece by piece as soon as possible and build a new one, the i-5 3570K is really becoming increasingly annoying.
The only issue I have with that is the Seagate, because I've had issues with their hard drives in the past. Not on PCs because I've never used them on PCs but with external hard drives. I'd be willing to dish it a little extra cash. And why the m2 card that you chose and not the Western digital? Price?
That seagate barracuda is basically the standard for additional storage rn. You should have no issues with it. Also i just kinda instinctively chose that m.2 But i believe it performs about the same as the wd. Hei should know tho.
For Hei's a jolly good fellow
:)
Wait so, caviar black is just a name and not a higher end model
An older model HDD at that
Black is the same as Caviar Black
https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-black-desktop-sata-hdd?utm_medium=pdsh2&utm_source=gads&utm_campaign=wd-us-pla&utm_content=873862296940&utm_term=WD4005FZBX#WD4005FZBX. Less expensive and more space
Am I allowed to link to Western digital?
ah ok i thought you were referring to the seagate barracuda
The caviar has simply been removed from the name
Ahh. From what I understand those are about $60 less expensive
Should I buy the NVMe with or without a heat sink if I purchase the Western digital?
What's the benefit
Oh cooling it down
It runs with the same specs, just longer
hey can i get some help for a 700 dollar build that does 1080 and 90+fps
1080 + anything
@spice shore if your budget is that I would get used parts
@spice shore sure, but I am going to let you know that on some of the build your most likely looking at used parts to a limited degree as well as possible ebay runs
Should I get gskill trident z royal or some Corsair vengeance pros?
I'm using vengeance pros
I'm using trident z neos
Now I neos
How long before the new CPUs release
No idea
Rip
I wanna build my system now but I want to wait for the new CPUs and GPUs but I’m afraid when they release covid will be worse and prices more inflated
Wait till Black Friday for the prices.
@waxen finch
I would go for whichever is cheaper. Both are good choices
Ok
@zealous wolf i’ve heard rumors that rtx 3080, etc are dropping later this year, just rumors tho
possibly as soon as august
Alright thanks b
I think it’s time for my i7 7700k to retire bois
Ran me good at 5.0ghz for the longest time...
@little osprey ??
how much do you pay to take that pc to another country
Uhh I didn’t tho
ok
I bought it for like only 300 bucks which included a mobo the cpu and like 16gb or ram
Bought it slightly used a long time ago
cool
people builds:
People looking at other people builds:
the wallets-
Wallet has left the chat
literally
so uh, when it comes to DDR3 and DDR3L, is there any real drawback to DDR3L when compared to regular DDR3?
Hi everyone
I took the time to edit the Build I posted earlier, with the Corsair Vengeance RAM, I've decided to switch to G.skill Ripjaw, remove the extra case fan for $12 I had on there, and put in a 750w PSU to replace my 500w psu. I plan on buying the GPU later to save money.
does it look alright to you guys, and girls?
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/catmancatplan/saved/qv8qpg
the reason it isn't marked as $1350 is simply because I marked the GPU as purchased.
idk if you have the wd black there for a reason, but you can save a lot of money, like $60, if you get a barracuda
