The great naed speaks!
@mellow basalt First warning can faff off
second warning is useless for the most part
third warning, please refer to picture @foggy hazel posted
4th warning is just the sites FYI we don't have all the data and don't know this poop
Thanks for helping me with my build the other day, @foggy hazel
@glass swift you are very welcome :)
well, at least i dont burst out of my box at random times
now help me put a Titan into this thing
I just love how @sudden turret comes out of nowhere 🤣🤣🤣
@glass swift ill grab the hammer 😄
box cutter is more efficient
I'll see myself out.
until next time Naed.
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEXT TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
i think ms box will be unhappy about that Box
you want efficient we will just grab the power saw...
you don't want to mess with mrs. box
i know!
M249 SAW*
Dang it I have to buy a new screwdriver @foggy hazel what type of screwdriver do you use?
whatever is available
Interchangeable bit, magnetic
do you magnetize all your screw drivers Naed?
i have a set that come magnetized
ah
Multi-Bit screwdriver?
okay, its just a pile
I always just take my strongest fridge magnet and give it a few rubs.
but its my pile of tools
i can imagine
its just that sometimes its practical to NOT have magnetized ones for audio stuff
Sorry that song has been stuck in my mind all day
lol.
especially when an engineer has forgotten to label a rack unit with "spools inside"
That’s how I feel cause i never built a pc
never?
never say never because never is never gonna happen 😄
@foggy hazel can I ship the parts to you and have you do it for me? 🤣🤣🤣
nope
you are way better off finding someone locally
beause shipping to me will be bonkers
and my rates are not low
Lol
Well that helps 🤣
You can do it yourself
How did y’all learn how to build your pc?
No tutorials?
nope
@mellow basalt read the manual
hands on
take your time and dont rush
No online guide?
back when the internet was small
online was not an option for me
ribbon cables ftw 😄
it was before we really had access to that for consumers :)
i am quite happy we dont have that anymore Box
@mellow basalt there are great videos on how to build a PC, and worst case I could even hop on video call and guide you through the process, but we want to help you learn and gain knowledge too 🙂
same.
I love how you assumed I was calling you two old
IDE cables, Molex and SCSI.....
that tells you that Box is the younger of us @mellow basalt
I wasn’t but you assumed
I remember the annoying jumpers
he is still young enough to worry about things like that :D
@foggy hazel me and you?
of box and myself
oh man SCSI
PUNCH CARDS!
don't make me get out the punch cards 😄
So I’m gonna assume since you 3 are techies that you three know how to program?
and I probably have more grey hair than him.
not really
techie doesn't specifically mean programming
not by my metric of what a programmer can do
we just know a thing or two, about a thing or two.
@sudden turret I don't know if this is scary or not, but at work I am the only person who knows anything about dealing with SCSI, IDE, Jumpers, Molex and even the punch cards......
@mellow basalt there are 10 types of people who can speak binary, those who can, and those who can't :D, as for techie that can denote any form, ranging from programming to hardware and anything else related
Sorry I was in like 2 discord’s and everyone with the title techie was amazing at programming
Sorry for assuming 😅
If we had anything like that, we would have a Programmers role
lol its all good, I can program, but I am more into the hardware side of things
Lol, we're in a lot of the same tech servers
@lime forge is our coder.
what
Another discord I won't name has a "techie exam"
Zack write the code
Every mod is in here 🤣
nah, he is just the professional garbler @sudden turret
linds amx theo fatal
The 1200 socket will work with 115x coolers right
@celest horizon I was just in “that” discord server 🤣
which server was that? sounds oddly familiar
Asking for a friend ofc
We don’t speak of that servers existence. 🤫
Ok wait can’t you just Cheat on that servers exam?
I see, well the annoying thing is, in "that server" I passed the techie exam and still never got Techie, and was told "we decided to fail you and not give you the role"...like wth really?
I don't cheat I just provide facts 😄
I have a iPad next to me can’t I just look the answers up? 🤣
oh and I just purchased another server.....again and I am about to get #3....I fell down the rabbit hole 😄
I think they need a better way to see if someone is worth techie+
You're allowed to google during it
Really?
I have never built a pc or anything so I don’t know much I’m gonna take that exam 🤣
knowing your tech should NEVER just be "having a good memory"
i think its more of a "can you accurately provide correct information and not lead people wrong" type thing
@foggy hazel I never claimed I had a good memory, I mean my name should say it all.... 😄
Half of programming is using stackoverflow
read again.
i know, i was joking
@foggy hazel I think I forgot to ask you what monitor do you recommend?
I think I asked it 🤔
I wasn’t talking about those 2 monitors
i dont really have much of a good suggestion at that budget
its whatever is reasonably priced
What is a good motherboard for like $85 that works with amd processors
Can I ask why your mobo budget is 85$?
@modest kraken what you already have via suggestions you have gotten from me?
Everything but the case, motherboard, and SSd bc I am picking it up from a microcenter near me
But I want to get a better motherboard
if you forgot, it probably wasnt important xD
@stoic island it was super important 😂
memez
Naed gave me all the pc parts and monitor that doesn’t go over $1400
I have my mouse and headset
Ohhhh KEYBOARD
That’s what I forgot 🤣🤣🤣
lol
I forgot what keyboard I picked 🤦
I have a question
First time builder
Just upgraded my cpu cooler from the stock amd cooler to a coolermaster
It comes with one fan, but I can swap it to either side of the heat sink
All of the pics show it facing the ram on my motherboard
But wouldn’t the fan be better on the opposite side of the heat sink, blowing directly at my rear exhaust fan?
@granite imp it is most likely pulling air in through itself and expelling it out over the heatsink
that might force the air to flow above the heatsink and lead to less airflow at vrms and such
Ok, so I'm a first time builder and I wondered if I could have some insight from people more experienced than I.
yes
My build is an NZXT h510 case and a Corsair RN 750 80+ gold certified
For CPU it’s an 9900k
RTX 2070 Super for GPU
Only one tb of ssd but subject to change
32gb of RAM
Liquid AIO
@balmy sky why would you get a 9900k with only a 2070super?
I know I should probably go for a 2080ti or something similar for a 9900K
no like if you want it for the same price you could go with amd
or if you can wait a little you can wait for intel 10th gen
if you went amd you could get a 2080 super
go AMD if you haven't bought any parts yet, you get upgrade paths, and more options and longer support cycles
Not sure if this is where id put this, im looking to buy a router but am not sure how they work so could someone help
In what way is AMD better?
better for workloads
more cores more threads
better upgrade paths for the future
pcie gen 4
better achertecture
cheaper
more bang for the buck
Architecture, sorry out of habit
unlike Intel where you have to buy a new board when you want to upgrade the CPU (and that includes RAM also) with AMD you can keep your existing board and RAM and upgrade your CPU, then down the road when you feel like it decide on upgrading yoru RAM and/or board
ye Ik just typing pretty fast
thank you I will go for AMD instead.
whats your budget?
2ish
2k?
Yes, there is some wiggle room.
MSI - Aegis R Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7 - 9700 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 - 1TB SSD - Black someone please tell me how much this is worth I want to buy a prebuild from bestbuy and I want to see if the prices match up or if it’s just not a good idea
don't buy that
Why not?
prebuilt bad
if its priced at anywhere about 1350ish then don't
you could get i79700k with 2070 super for 1400
or atleast I did
I want to build my pc but I don’t know where to start like part wise but every part has to be from bestbuy, can someone help me?
@little leaf keep in mind, prices from before Covid are not exactly good comparison points "now"
ye
what budget
but there are still reasonably priced parts
Out of curiosity
Why does every part have to be from bestbuy?
it doesn't
@little osprey you here for me?
Like $1000 and $1200 and I have to pay for the parts monthly, I can’t buy them all in one
Yeah! I’ll brb
I would make monthly payments
@foggy hazel @little osprey https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/nPynrV
( added the 2060KO)
aye, noted, thank you :)
brings it to 1412cad
confirmed on my end
noted
I thought I saw people saying the 2060 KO was a terrible buy.
depends on your use for it
@glass ferry dont, just dont buy monthly. Save up the money. And then buy
@glass ferry it is very inconvenient to try and pay rent with a pc part
I would too
also naed they are being gifted a 1tb drive to go in it aswell
I just had a rude awakening
hdd or ssd?
hdd I think
What’s up with everyone picking the cougar case?
Is that case popular rn or something?
@balmy sky what?
I think I picked that, and they are going back to the other case they picked
Hey mates, so I have a question. I’m working on my first PC and I’m using a Asus Prime x-570-p motherboard. I got the suggestion to use two m.2 Nvme drives. One 128gb one for os, and a 1 terabyte one games, rendering times and school work, and then a one terabyte hdd my friend is giving me for free for files and some school work. But this is where things get tricky, if I use two M.2 drives will it disable two ports? If so does that only mean I’m aloud to have one extra ssd and one extra hdd?
no
Cause like 5 builds people gave me had the cougar case
that is the answer @little osprey
cougar makes decent cases though
It has to be popular rn or something?
I got one off newegg for 12 bucks, and I was insanely surprised how well made it was
Wait, what does the case have to do with having two m.2 drives though?
I got a LGA 1151 mobo
just a seperate conversation 🙂
@little osprey they are not talking about anything you need to worry about now :)
That was my rude awakening
Oh lol
@little osprey don’t worry about the case
@balmy sky have you opened it?
@little osprey you can use all the storage ports on that mainboard at the same time.
@sudden turret which case is that?
oh man I can't remember, it was a long time ago
@balmy sky also where did you buy it fromg
ok then you can return it
Ok
if it isn't opened
Right
Wait, so should my cpu cooler fan be on the ram side of the cpu, and blow air towards the heat sink? I have my on the side facing the rear of my case, and pulling air from the heat sink, and pushing it towards the exhaust fan
I just love how the price for one of my parts keep increasing
but if you don't want to ship it back you cna just use intel I guess
@balmy sky talk with @fresh garden about it
Idk what that necessarily means though lol. Like, if I use two m.2 drives won’t it take up two slots and then I’ll only be able to have two additional means of storage?
@little osprey no
@mellow basalt
I’ll eventually get another 250-500 gb ssd
That’s actually pretty cool @sudden turret
best 12 bucks I've spent on a case
I’m gonna look for that
you wont find it for that
Damn $12
Cougar Case SOLUTIONRSB400
I need a window for my case though cause I’m gonna spend a long time trying to cable manage to make everything look good
How big a difference between the Ryzen 9 and i9 (both 9th gen)
@little osprey " you can use all the storage ports on that mainboard at the same time." <- that means that you can use both m.2 ports and all 6 sata ports, at the same time. it all works. nothing gets disabled
was when newegg has neweggFLASH deals
@little osprey did that explain it?
@sudden turret I have to wait for the price to go back down 🤣
Yeah, thank you! My board does come with two m.2 slots right? Just making sure
@little osprey yes it does.
How big a difference between the Ryzen 9 and i9 (both 9th gen)
Naed are you Scottish?
Cause naed in Scottish means no
3rd gen ryzen 9 is considerably better than 9th gen i9
gaming is the only thing intel wins in by a small margin
Got a build/compatibility question: looking at a Asus Strix B450-F board for a new build, but all the RAM I'm looking at isn't on the QVL (Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200, for example), even if it's DDR, Unbuffered, Non-ECC like is listed on the board's support page. Their QVL seems to be quite limited/possibly out of date or incomplete. Is this compatible? Should I take the chance?
Oh yea your name is an acronym I forgot about that company naed 😅
Ok thanks for the insight.
@craggy frost its a fairly safe bet
Also, going with a 3700x
that depends on the specific bios, but also, fairly safe bet by now
It’s a nice board that will last me awhile, and I’ll eventually be able to add more to it. I was originally gonna go with the tomahawk b450 board. But with the x570 I don’t have to do any updating like I would have to do with b450 boards. My friend got one of those and it didn’t work so he had to take it to a computer shop so they could update it and that’s out of my comfort zone to deal with
Plus with the pandemic I can’t get it updates if I need to
It should end by may 12th
But my board does comes with two m.2 slots right? Oh, and the 128 gb means it has that much storage or used that much?
*uses
I downloaded the latest QVL, it only lists 31 models of RAM in 3200, which makes me think it's not up to date. Also, the 3000 is listed 😳
@little osprey yes, it comes with 2 m.2 slots
@little osprey you are not answering the question
@little osprey
@mellow basalt i dont need a echo.
@craggy frost read what i said above.
I didn’t even see it my bad
nothing to be sorry about.
but i will ask again.
Why the 128 gig drive @little osprey ?
I answered it above
no, you asked a question :)
👍 thanks. I figured it would probably work, but always nice to get confirmation
Yea you asked a question
Scroll up a few messages
My bad Naed
@little osprey hm, unless discord is playing tricks. I dont see a answer: But, the reason i ask is this:
its a bad investment
simple as that
it is too small a drive to be actually useful for you (unless you want to micromanage a bunch of things)
Oh weird.... I’ll copy and paste it. It’s a nice board that will last me awhile, and I’ll eventually be able to add more to it. I was originally gonna go with the tomahawk b450 board. But with the x570 I don’t have to do any updating like I would have to do with b450 boards. My friend got one of those and it didn’t work so he had to take it to a computer shop so they could update it and that’s out of my comfort zone to deal with. Plus with the pandemic I can’t get it updates if I need to
can a i7 9750 gtx1660ti laptop run any game on medium setting?
@little osprey yes, thats the answer for the board. and that is fine and all.
Oh, do you have a better motherboard you recommend?
Oh
i see yall are quite busy. ill ask again later<3
i am only talking about your storage selections right now @little osprey
Oh kk, I’ll answer
So basically, I was gonna go with a one terabyte Nvme for os,games, blender (my main stuff) and then a one terabyte hard drive for files, and a 250 gb ssd for school work. But, if my os fails it’ll take everything with it. So I if I have a separate and small m.2 drive it will mainly just be for os.. What would you recommend me get?
For storage
Box mentioned that you are getting a drive for free? or was that a misunderstanding?
Yes, I was gonna get a 2 terabyte hdd, but I know someone who is gonna give me a 1 terabyte one so I didn’t think it was worth it. I’m mostly just trying to focus on what ssd and m.2 ssd’s I should get
@foggy hazel he also mentioned that yesterday as well *the free drive)
Free drive?
aye, and i am trying to understand your immediate future, so i can better advice you @little osprey
Like what I need the space for?
Sorry I don’t want to be a pain to you mates, just trying to figure out my best options
more if there was a reason that made logical sense for the 128gig drive
you are not a pain
That’s only for the os
So for a cooling kit what is some if the best with rgb
PHORCYS PRO CA240, a full Water Cooling Kit,
So if it fails it won’t damage anything else
I found this one in newegg
@shadow mango please ask in #old-cooling
Ahh okay
@pastel briar what drive?
@little osprey you could go with what people used to do, which is partitioning the drive (meaning, splitting the drive into different sized parts with different drive letters for the OS to use)
and yes, that would not save you IF the drive itself exploded
@mellow basalt I was referring to something someone yesterday was talking about, when I was helping them with answering questions about there HDD, SSD and M.2 drive selection(s)
Oh, what does your setup look like @foggy hazel
@pastel briar ohhh gotcha
@little osprey but, it would allow a reinstall of the OS without touching anything else on that part of a drive
let me just grab a shot of it @little osprey
me? I got my OS on one M.2, and my games on another M.2 @little osprey
Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking of doing. How many gb is the one you have your os on?
And games?
Kk
that is one of the drives in this particular machine @little osprey
@pastel briar please keep answers short and to the point.
That looks somewhat complicated, idk how I would go about splitting my drive
currently games are on the 500GB m.2 and the OS is on the 1TB M.2 (for some reason windows decided to be a Computer User non Technical (I will let you figure out the true meaning) and reverse the two during install...)
Doesn’t it make more sense to have your games on the 1 terabyte one? More space for stuff
@little osprey that is done when you install windows. there are a bunch of people here that can talk you through it in about 3-4 minutes
Oh kk
@pastel briar before you answer. see above.
@little osprey as I said windows got jank on me so it flipped the two, don't feel like going around fixing it
Right
@little osprey in my case, that is just one of many drives in that system
is this good
i made it for my friend, i wanna make sure i don’t recommend a bad list
he insists on keeping the case btw
@latent storm not a bad build, im sure we could tweek it some but that would give good performance
the motherboard my not arrive with the new bios for 3rd gen ryzen chips but otherwise it looks fine
Ok, so out of these three which one do you recommend:
1)
1 terabyte hdd: For files/school work
1 terabyte m.2: For games, os, blender and 3D printing related
1 250gb ssd: For school work and other small things
1 terabyte hdd: For files/school work
1 terabyte m.2: For games, blender and 3D printing related
1 128 gb m.2 for os.
Do what you suggested and let my drive have sections so
1 terabyte hdd: for school work/ files
1 terabyte m.2: for os (section) and all my other main stuff in sections
1 250 gb ssd for school work
a note: having files stored on 1 machine, on 1 drive is NOT a backup.
it does NOT give any realistic level of data security
with that part out of the way
My original comment about the 128gig drive is entirely based around size of the drive.
at 128gig, it is simply too small to actually be practically used for what you intend to do
hence, i would suggest the following
@pastel briar what would you change with it?
Oh, so try to find a 250 gb ssd? How much space does windows usually take up
250-512 (gives you room for your OS plus the basic programs you actually use) (meaning, all the things that would have to be installed anyway, if you did a fresh install of the OS at some point))
re: how much space does windows take? windows itself (which is not actually what you are asking) is about 25-ish gig
windows with all the drivers and things you dont think about? about 80-ish
does all of that make sense?
Yeah, let me just see if I get this. I should go with a 250-512 gb m.2 for os and other computer related programs. And then continue with a one terabyte m.2 for games, blender and my main stuff. Then, a one terabyte hdd for just for files/photos and such, which I don’t want on my m.2 drives?
thats a more sensible/useful setup imo
Ok, thanks I really appreciate it! I can always add in more storage later on though? Like I do want to get a Samsung evo ssd once more storage begins to get full
yes, you can add more storage later
keep in mind, nvme <- as a feature, does not really do anything that you will notice aside from the OS drive
so in other words. Dont worry about that label
What about rendering time and gameplay? Last thing, to save money I’m not gonna buy a cpu cooler since my Ryzen 5 cpu already comes with one. I was gonna go with an upgraded Ryzen cooler for $47, (I’ll see if I can find a photo of it), but to save money do you think that’s smart because I can always get a better cpu cooler in the future if I need one?
@little osprey the stock cooler is fine
there are other things that could use the money first
@latent storm depending on the budget (which was never mentioned) I would to 2070 or 2080 vs the 2060, and/or the 570 series board instead of the 450, but that is just me and wanting to maximize the amount of time I can use the build in the configuration
I can’t seem to find the photo of it
Thanks for your help btw, what model m.2 should I get for my os?
a80 if you can
and you are very welcome
and yes, its not cheap
but good things are very rarely cheap
@sudden turret I’m going with a 250-500 gb one now though:)
Especially with Canadian prices 😭
you have nothing on the prices here
refer to what i said above
Ik
redacted
there you are @little osprey
@little osprey https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/p7nDFG
that is your list adjusted
you can keep the 1tb Western, prices in Canada support that one
@upper condor you dont have to ask in 2 channels
have patience and when someone has the knowledge/time/desire to answer it, they will.
NetGear Nighthawk
@mellow basalt its in #peripherals-and-displays now :)
Ohhh
Sweet! Thanks
I’m so done with rocket league 😤
550 motherboards aren't even out yet.
The rest of your list is looking okay @little osprey , you can either go with this (in the next 3-4 weeks maximum) or you can come back later on. But if you do, please bring the list with you. It helps us help you quickly
@cold sorrel they are not supposed to be out yet
Someone above mentioned going with a 550 board rather than a 450... but that's not possible to do yet
For sure
@cold sorrel you mean the 540 typo someone did earlier?
Ah, they actually meant 570. My bad
oops, my bad, it was a typo, I have fixed it
hey anyone know why there is a strange buzzing coming from my computer whenever I scroll my mouse? its super annoying
its actually just whenever I move my mouse or click or scroll
gpu noises
anyway to stop it
idk when that happened to me i just bought a new gpu
did it stop
yeah
hm
it was rly old
was it an old one
yeah
well mines like 4 months old
definitely coming from there
@upper condor see if you can get a recording of it, and then have a chat with customer service :)
you should try and get some dust out of ur gpu fans
could having a wifi card directly under cause any problems?
nah, should not have any impact like that
fax
wait I think its my ssd
ssd make noise?
?
no they dont.
i dont have an ssd lol so idk
no moving parts in an ssd.
Well, they do. Tho it's too quiet for humans usually
he said its when he moves his mouse
well its louder then
ah
Maybe its more then one thing?
im thinking ur wifi card might be hitting something on the gpu and so when u move ur mouse and the fans speed up it gets louder but otherwise idk
stops whenever all windows are closed
hm
to find where its coming from you could take out ur wifi card and see if it still makes the noise
temporarily
Not wifi card
Gpu fans are off
How do I send vid on mobile
Then you can hear it
Same way as u sent a picture as far as i know
yup
Well
its a quiet buzz but annoying
Mever heard that noise
guess ill just deal with it
cant hear unless not watching anything or talking to anyone
so not that bad
Whut?
i mean technically it will fix the noise
Yes
But its not handy
I mean
Shut the pc off and the noise will stop
Bit more normal? I think at least
better yet
ill restart
@midnight pelican "jokes/bs" like that dont belong in this channel
sory
Fixed I guess
Nice
no u
@weak harness same applies to you.
if you want to joke around with stuff like that, please do so in #general-chat
@foggy hazel i figured out why my server kept wanting to reload bios every time on boot and the weird boot issue it was having 😄 the last person to have it before I got my hands on it set the jumper J29 to the "reset/backup" mode
"joy"
no "Bliss"
unless you meant something else 😄
I will say that constant "loading from back up" was starting to get frustrating
oh and server #2 has been ordered...
morning all
if i were to eventually get a 3950x and overclock it, 2080ti , would a 450 still be fine or would yall recomend a 550 at that point?
watt psu
just a gaming build
100% no SLI
buy for what you have, not for wishful dreaming @little osprey
its not exacrly wishful dreaming, il buy a used one in a few years
no, you think you will
I'm going to say no
you don't know yet but if you were ever too I don't think 450 watts will be enough
ask again when you are ready to order
well if spending 50 bucks more for the chance of it is worth it imo, if games use 12 cores within that time i most likely would get one
@little osprey the recommended amount of wattage for 2070 super is 550 I;m pretty sure
I had a 970 and the power supply wasn't good enough and it just at random times it would cut off
if theres 1 stipulation of my build, its that i dont want to have to replace the entire thing within 5 years
snake what does that even mean?
I mean if your just talking about the power supply you can switch that out by itsslef
why not wait until them because there might be new standards for power supplies and new tect
planning for a 12 core wiuld mean beefing up the case psu, and motherboard, cause if i buy just for the 8 core im going matx
I got a question for you mates! I really like the case I have selected Fractal Design Meshify C ATX mid tower case. But it’s $140 and I’m wondering if I can find a cheaper option, I was gonna go with the NZXT H510 but it doesn’t have as good air flow. What case do you mates recommend? Oh and it can be either black or white, I’m not sure if I’m going with a Jedi or sith themed build lol. I wasn’t at first cause I thought it would just cost more, but looking into stuff it won’t really. I can just set my ram to a certain colour like blue, green or red and then the case can be either white or black to represent either side
if your not worries about gpu length i would suggest the rosewill fbm v... something
or focus g depending on price in your area
p400a
It has to fit everything I have selected
yeah...
The prices suck
the rosewill will fit that, but you may eant to buy an extra fan with it, otherwose the fractal focus g will fit all that
I was like wait.... 536 dollars for 2060 super
the phanteks p300 is around 90 bucks
I could easily get better parts for the same prices in American lol
ok
yeah its bad in canada
dollar is worse then wver compared to the US right now
actually the dollar price is going down
Should i buy all my water cooling seprate or just get a kit
what about this one? I'm not sure what all the rgb is about tho
what kinda build pix?
i would just suggest an AIO unless you have a money is no issue build happening
Im not worried about the price
snake aio for gpu?
But i want a full loop so
and cpu?
Should i get a kit and just get a water block for my cpu and add it to the loop
kits can be alright, i think deepcool are the brand to get??? im outdated with that though
I want red so it all works out
I just dont understand how that all comes out to 768$
With out a gpu
watercooling is extremely expensive
Yea true
its a hobby thing, your not REALLY spending for performance, its for looks and to have fun with overxlocking and such
realisticly its not worth it at all, but if yiur into it go for it if you got the money
Anybody know of a motherboard that will support a amd ryzen 5 3600 and a gtx 1660 super??
well if you dont wanna worry about bios youd have to get an x570, but any cheap b450 shiuld be alright with thaf build
Wouldnt i have to get a reservoir to
with a custom loop yes you should
I just got the msi b450 ac pro carbon works good but is 180$
Okay cause its was only showing the pump
probably not needed but, might as well go aio at that point
Tuf b450m pro.
res, pump, blocks, tubings, and 100 overpriced connectors lol
is a great board
Tuf is good too
Connectors are overpriced fs
I'm working on a mid-level AMD gaming build. Already have SSD and HDD.
If anyone cares to have a look and offer tips / constructive criticism, it's appreciated:

alternativley you can make your own super custom loop that will look like terrible, with typical hardware store stuff and aquarium pumps lol
should perform good tho
Yes - another user turned me onto that earlier today - I really like the versatility of the site. 👍
Hey guys I just built my new pc and when I get to playing games I can hear almost like a hissing noise sounds like it’s coming from the cpu but temperatures have been max at around 75°c
It's easier to look at things with pcpp
you sure it comes from the CPU? Not the GPU or PSU?
hissing? that cant be good
I'm assuming some coil whine
coil whine is just annoying, not much of an issue
ive yet to had a part with it.. but im a noise freak and really dread that day
Ima run csgo again and play a game then I’ll update you guys with what I think it is because at idle it doesn’t but when I’m playing yes

3600 cl16
^^
What ram should I get that a good price for performance I'm using a i7 8700 k
I’m not good with the stats on that kinda stuff
I have 150$ right now and I'm trying to get ram and a ssd
ty orbxtal & Tomie.
I thought there was a specific reason I was sticking with 3200 - maybe trying to stay conservative on price?
Ripjaws V is a common kit cheapish kit @spice inlet
even if your CPU doesn't support the speed you can clock it at the speed your CPU will use and the higher rated speed would be good for upgrades later
Ah yes - that's what I see - CPU rated at DDR4 3200.
But by the time I would plan to upgrade the CPU would likely be about 5-6 years down the road. By then, upgrading CPU by a small amount (due to socket availability)
Ok I think the noise might be coming from my cpu fan and it not that loud but you can definitely hear it
I think I need better fans
@little osprey what cpu fan
I'd suggest a better PSU... That's a non-rated unit from raidmax sooo
@stoic island Non-rated meaning what? it's 80 Plus Gold certified.
Noctua u12s cooler stock fan
most fans you are gonna hear something if they are spinning fast enough
@stoic island where is that list from/found ?
I think I found my problem
You can find it in pinned
PSU Tier List 4.0 rev. 12.4 welcome to the brand new PSU Tier List! Created and maintained by @DatTestBench, @Stefan Payne, @GreatMasterAden, @Juular, @Elisis, @Maurice from Madagascar and @LukeSavenije Last Update: 12-04-2020 Tiering of various units is opinion based off repu...
tyvm
What's your budget?
Under $1500
but greater than?
and you have storage?
$1000-$1500, including OS.
I have storage.
I had selected Raidmax due to past positive experience, and continuous power output (not "peak" ratings).
Will review PSU list and consider.
My PSU is on the B+ range, and I bought it only based on user rating XD
Mine is A- bc I didn't know much before I bought
same
I got a g3, the issue is not bad, but its still A-.
A- isn't bad at all, I'd say that's pretty good
meh
still one off A
and I'd rather not have any possible issues, even if its far off
Rosewill Photon 750W is mine
@eager chasm is that on tier list?
yea
I have the evga 600wBQ
That's Tier C
Dang I’m trash I geuss
Yeah it’s actually been running great
yea
Well for at least the two days I’ve had it
PSUs work as they should, or they dont
the tier list is a rough guildline
yea C and above are fine but
I need to get lvl 3 so I can send a picture
efficiency and stuff
I have a R 3600 3.6 and a 2060 super and it runs great other than I’m getting such high FPS for a 60hz monitor
depends on the game, and what you crank the settings to, some games get less than 60FPS on 1080p ultra settings even for me
its possible like a wire is in the way and the fans hit it
It’s not hitting I checked all of them
MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT Mech OC
shows "recommended PSU: 750W"
How do you guys feel this compares to actual usage ratings... on PCPP ? (shows my wattage at 399W)
also grats on your level up @little osprey you can post that picture now
because Noctua fans are great
and usually never makes much noise
Recommended can be ignored :p
/skeptical
I trust pcpp estimation better
most of my noise is from my GPU, the VII has a really nice look, but the fans are small and loud
why not dual tower noctua
with Gold Certifications... I look at PSUs similar to audio amplifiers. Good to overpower than underpower.
The noise it’s making is so weird like it’s not the psu it actually might me the gpu
if its coming from the GPU, it's prob coil whine
@subtle halo I was concerned about space
Yeah I think it’s gpu because it only make the noise in game
Very big
doesn't MSI offer software to allow you to control fan speed... specifically on GPU and/or CPU?
Yes afterburner
this wire isn't hitting the case fan is it?
I just moved that one
:D
I would boot to desktop, then use software to individually set fan speeds to maximum.
Need to isolate the device.
I had issues with one of my wires touching my top fan
1111... the way those fans are wired hurts my soul
ryoku
XD
pretty build
bc I needed a splitter for then
Ima take a video and see if I can hear it and send it here if the video picks it up
I tuck any extra wire length inbetween things
Or I can move the fan clockwise again and tuck it where my ram is
I know it's know the same cause I use stock prism, but I try to tuck extra length anyway I can
This is what is normal fan noise (it's quieter irl than in the video)
https://photos.app.goo.gl/mBR9sf11di9AksrP6
Some of my extra wire I bundled and stuck under the ram XD
I did a overclock test on my gpu it was making a little squeak noise but it was only at 64°c
Ima compare the noises
That's prob coil whine
I believe when GPUs start outputting a ton of frames, like 2000fps, they tend to have a bit of coil whine
I’m getting at like 375 FPS in csgo how do you limit that to like 100
Mine is just a jet engine cause the fans are small for the size and power of the card XD
many games have an FPS limit you can set
so you know how the silicon power a80 is good
Yea
is the silicon power a55 any good
Gimme a sec prob not
its a ssd
Yea it's bad it's dramless
so a tc sun bow would be the move
The top of my gpu is very hot I feel like I need to take a break but it’s only at 60°
Team L5 lite 3d is an option
alright
I mean 60c is only warm for PC parts, but hot for humans lol
Ima manual my fan speed
Fair enough
What software is that
the Radeon driver software
:D
@stoic island is it an aesthetic choice to have the cable upfront ?
it's like a better Geforce experience, but for Radeon cards... now if the drivers themselves weren't broken all the time I'd recommend it
Wdym @high wigeon
because.
@little osprey MSI afterburner is great tho
you could have route them behind
there is, I can see it, you just don't want to hassle with tucking the wires back there XD
nah it might be a pain i i assure you its possible lol
There's fans on top so
I just got a ace in cs using the ssg sniper
the wire wouldn't go anywhere near the top fan
Yeah I’m sure the coil whine in the gpu should I contact msi?
Ok
Like when I’m playing games it does it then as soon as I press windows key it goes away
Might be the too many fps thing I was talking about
You know Nvidia control panel?
There's a way to set a frame cap in there
Well I’m a dumb dumb and had my cpu cooler fan on all wrong 🤦♂️
I thought I was a genius
I gotta start watching Jay's 2 cents at some point
Dood
But I’m an idiot, better now.
Heh @granite imp I failed mounting my CPU cooler so many times I ran out of the original thermal paste
Jay is goat he helped me do windows install quick and easy
I need to read the manual
The mounting went fine
I mounted the stock cooler first
No issue
Ran for about a week or two
Just upgrade
Upgraded
I thought the fan pull hot air from the heat sink away
So I put it on the other side of the heat sink, thinking it would blow directly at the exhaust fan
🤦♂️
Maxed my fps at 100 so let’s see
Or is it? Muahahahahah
Bum bum bummmmmm
No it is, I fixed it just now.
UFD is a tiny bit of a clickbait monger, I feel for his situation but he clickbaits and over sensationalizes
The news is useful, idc about the thumbnails
Linus clickbaits too
but I watch linus for the memez
not too much for the information
@little osprey this is where the option is in Nvidia control panel
Yeah I found it thank you I geuss I will be playing at 100fps now
@glass ferry
could you guys help him with his issue he is having. from what he is saying there could be a magnitude of problems but I dont really know what is it
what problem
would you like to explain tadiums
Well I have a cheap pc that I was trying to upgrade to make it faster and run smoother and I bought a whole new cpu and a new gpu for it and now the image won’t display on my monitor and I even tried to take the new parts out and put the old parts back in and now it won’t even display with the old parts and my keyboard and mouse won’t light up either
You got a list?
a list of his parts he has now?
Wym list
I dont think he understood
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/707712070367576176/707725603503079454/image0.png this is the pc he has now and he tried to put in a ryzen 5 3600
And the new gpu I bought was a gtx 1660 super
I’m not sure about the bios bc I’m not too familiar with PCs and I did not upgrade the psu
Only thing I bought was a new cpu and a gpu
So you most likely don't have the correct bios for the CPU
and not sure on the PSU, the PSU could be crappy and somehow can't support a 1660s
So what should I do? Bc I already have the cpu and the gpu
I wonder what motherboard that prebuilt has
I was assuming either a a320 or a low end 450
meh 1660super is pretty light weight
I can’t flash my motherboard if I can’t get it on?
prebuilts psu though 👀
thats why you need to put it back togther with the org parts
and check everything that you plugged in
what happening with him?
make sure everything is plugged in correctly
They tryna upgrade a prebuilt, likely dont have 3rd gen ready bios
nice
Yea it’s been back together for like a week
I got a hefty amoutn of gpu sag
And it still won’t display
I’m gonna ship my gpu back to msi for them to test it
Stupid coil whine
I could play above 100fps
Fixed my gpu! It was a cable in the way of the fan from when I cleaned it and put it back together
Now the very last thing! I’m not getting audio out of my monitor 🤔
passthrough can be pretty wacky
I did plug-in a audio cable to my motherboard when setting it up. Could that mess with it?
you got drivers?
@polar goblet I assume your using HDMI which has the ability to pass audio
DP doesnt
Yes I am
which is why you are seeing what you are seeing
oh nice Crypto, up and running I see 😄
Hdmi
rju
Did that windows key work for you? 🙂
@final hamlet you have all the drivers?
I believe so. How can I check if I do?
Any suggestions on what it could be for me not hearing audio?
GPU driver wise, Nvidia experience
or AMD equivelent
@polar goblet u using usb or 3.5mm
I don’t think I have my gpu drivers installed yet. Would that affect audio? ...
@polar goblet on discord? Go to settings- Audio- And click on input and output
Anyone else get coil whine on there gpu?
@polar goblet has windows finished installing all updates?
Yeah they said they would send a rma
okay then
Ohhhh
usual when I update gpu driver, or even plug in my monitor the sound jumps to them,
They responded so quick the first time them now it’s taking awhile
ye
It has finished updating windows. But my gpu driver isn’t up to date. Going to have to manually download from GeForce website
go do that
do you have geforce experience
give a good reboot
you should be good to go
Geforce Experience ^
good to have, keeps ya up-to-date
very helpful^
just not so much with the auto-optimization of games
that thing is kinda garbage
😄
ye but for drivers
GXP is nice for "just works" , nvcleaninstall if you're a tryhard like me
I dont like it for geforce experience
