That chonky boi
to some extent it reminds me of the CM stacker
Well I'll see :)
Puting the Mobo in by myself was a challenge, all I gotta do is gpu and cables
in the "useless degrees of useless" case category
What is that Naed?
CM stacker?
well sweet thanks guys!
Yea
I got mine for 200, so I'm pretty happy
old-ish case from Cooler Master
might just go to goodwill and get and old school POS case and mod that and make sleeper looking thing... goals
Yeah. Definitely still pricey but I'll be happy with it
@stoic island https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/893/cooler_master_stacker_830_full_tower_enclosure/index.html <- this thing
Lmao I had to get a refresher on the Helios case and that intro...
https://youtu.be/ONGbgF6t03w
ASUS is getting into case manufacturing with the ASUS ROG Strix Helios case, which we've reviewed for build quality, thermals, value, and more.
Ad: Buy Deepcool's Captain 240 Pro AIO (https://geni.us/CvnK - Amazon)
Find the ASUS ROG Strix Helios on Newegg: https://geni.us/cim...
I mean that stacker case looks pretty good in terms of capability
Ah
It 10 years old? I thought it launched last year
Stacker
Oh okie
Will this board support DDR4 TridentZ NEO 3600mhz RAM? https://www.newegg.com/asrock-x570-pro4/p/N82E16813157886
@foggy hazel So I have been playing Valorant for about 1 hour and 45 minutes now and no crash because I am borrowing a Corsair 850 watt psu and it seems to be working good!
so, a cautious conclusion @low karma is that your old PSU has some kind of fault
but, give it some time
if you can, borrow the PSU for a couple of days
and then see if things are still good
I'm going to ask him
anybody can help me out with my wiring for my build. It’s my first build and I’m having trouble figuring out what goes where
@last cypress got a list of parts?
Sure let me write it out
just psu model and mainboard model really
and case model
those are a good start :)
Okay case is NZXT H500i
Mother board is Asus Rog Strix Z39-E gaming
PSU is EVGA supernova 750 G3
is it only wiring you havnt done?
What motherboard would you all recommend for a ryzen 7 3800x and a 2060 super? Preferably under 300, but definitely under 400
Yeah wiring and adding GPU
okay, so what are your specific questions @last cypress
Well right now I’m trying to figure out how to wire my fans
I went with Corsair H100i RGB platinum and I’m trying to figure out the wiring
there should be a manual in the box for that
Okay thanks I’ll go look
@sacred chasm on your 3 monitor setup, is that a pair of 990's i spot on the bottom left?
They're the 770 closed 🙂
250 Ohm
@foggy hazel
I didn't know they made a open-back one
@foggy hazel looking to buy a new graphics card tonight. between the 2060 xc or 2070 xc. both evga b-stock. wondering if its worth the extra $100 to jump up. currently running a R9 280.
ah, the shoulders make them seem identical my 990's, also the 250ohm variants :)
:)))
I'm using a scarlet solo to power them
and I also have it hooked up to my bose surround sound system
if on the go, its a dacport slim for me
I have a pair Hd 598's for my Open-Ear ones
and a homebrewed amp here at home
I started off with ATH M20s
They weren't that great
then I moved on to the Sennhesiers
Those were a god send but they had no real weight to them
and I when I upgraded to the full set-up I wanted a 250 Ohm variant of something
and the one that got recommended to me was the 770s
thats a general theme imo for a lot of sennheisers
their soundstage is just ... weird ..
Yeah I've been experimenting with my headphones for a long time
and I think I've finally reached a happy place LOL
i love the "open" sounds that the semi-open/open cans can deliver, and i especially enjoy the 990's
Open sounds are nice, but I feel like you can miss out on the little things due to it
The closed really helps me pick out the minute stuff
if you get the chance, try the 990's and give them some juice to work with
as in, you need juice
YEah definitely
they just scoff loudly at your phone if you connect that
Ahhh lol
I'm a home audio listener
my mobile audio all belongs to my airpods pro and the Sony headphones 🙂
when i said "out and about" i should have clarified.
i didnt mean: out and walking around
i mean, out and working on site somewhere etc
i dont do walking and listening
They work a lot better when I'm trying to focus
mainly because skating/biking does not go well with listening to things if you want to not collide with cars :)
i prefer the open cans for working around other people (i hate surprises from people sneaking up on me)
ahhh
I don't usually listen to music when I'm walking around for the same reason LOL
true true
side question about your prod setup picture
is that a fixed frame for the monitors ?
or individual arms?
uh which one
3 monitor setup
@foggy hazel When you get a minute let me know
It was the only one I could really find on amazon that catered to my taste
but why fixed?
I wanted something that was centered to the central monitor
Fixed as in?
the individual monitors can be rotated and adjusted
Oh no they can be positioned freely within horizontal bar
Yeah
I wanted them to be in line with each other
yeah, i am big fan of verticals
no.
@foggy hazel So I have been gaming on this psu for about 4 hours now and no crashes. Also I have noticed playing Call of Duty that it is EXTREMELY quiet. My GPU temps have dropped about 8 C and am actually getting a steady frame rate.
think H shaped for 3 monitors
@low karma as i said, run for longer
not trying to burst your bubble
but it would suck if you got your hopes up too high
@sacred chasm as mentioned, H shaped, so that you have a vertical for documents on one side, main monitor in landscape in the middle, and another vertical for news feeds etc on the other side of that one
@foggy hazel looking to buy a new graphics card tonight. between the 2060 xc or 2070 xc. both evga b-stock. wondering if its worth the extra $100 to jump up. currently running a R9 280.
@long escarp i saw you the first time, i saw you the second.
lol my bad
and i saw you before you started tagging me in the questions.
Note for PSUs, you have cross load regulation to test, transient response, high load vs low load
@foggy hazel ah yes
So PSU tests on a PC get a bit whack
your setups seems more ... regimented @sacred chasm ?
as in: it kinda HAS to be "this" way
is that a wrong observation?
@sacred chasm aye, like that, but normally with a bit bigger monitor in the middle
yeah
but yes, that makes the horizontal setup "moot"
I wanted to go for a very very linear sett up if that makes sense
it does :)
your setups makes ME happy
because they are not rainbow barf left/right/center
and there is actually a clear design choice visible in them :)
Yeeeee
The nice thing about it is that it's very interchangeable
like yeah It's very "solid"
aye
but the colors can be changed easily
white happens to go with all the bright colors so it works
its a "lets get productive" feel
sorry in advance (not really, but .. :D )
you know about ergotron arms?
The sleek, adjustable MX LCD Arm accommodates larger monitors and all-in-one computers weighing up to 30 lbs (13.6 kg).
they are NOT cheap, but holy heck are they nice to use
and it doesnt hurt that they look pretty too :)
Serious working takes serious technology. Combine the HX Desk Arm with the HX Triple Bow Kit to easily position three monitors up to 24" while still enhancing your workspace with a sleek design. The hinged bow lets you easily pan your monitors for screen sharing and the most c...
and you really dont want to know the price on that last one :)
:)
:)
thats like 3/4 of my monitor price naed :v
^
the ergotron products are NOT for everyone
but, if you workday involves changing the position of the monitor a lot?
it takes about 1 day for you to refuse working with any other mount
maybe for my other desk LOL
actually LOL
For my prod desk
its powered by my 2-in1 xps tablet laptop
2-1 xps
so I whip it out when I'm taking notes
anyway, all of this is a long slow way of saying: You have a lovely setup, and you should be proud of it :)
❤️
ty it costed a lot of money and brain power
trying to figure out where the hell to put everything
and as mentioned, it is especially nice to see a NOT rainbow setup
you wont ever figure it out 100%
but there was no wallpaper that matched the resolution of my monitors 😦
commission one?
who knew finding a wallpaper for 3 1440p monitors that could span across all three would be hard
I never thought about that actually
:)
but I have a single thing in mind when it comes to it
just s t r e t c h one lol jk
cant hurt to ask
I wanted to get something that could span across the whole screen without looking weird
you can google 7680x1440 wallpaper and there are a lot of results
Is it tricky to set up a single wallpaper for a bunch of monitors of different resolutions?
and just took the resolution of the first image and assumed it looked right
@full seal different resolutions means things "stretch" in weird ways between them
@deep skiff i looked at a lot of them and none of them had the color i wanted to go far
think there are websites for monitor setups of different resolutions
Its kinda funky ngl LOL
I suppose I could take an image that was high enough resolution, cut it up and scale each part for each monitor.
what kind of wallpaper are you looking for?
ic
or like the one i sent in chat
One that pops
but doesn't burn your eyes
or in my set up
it was very hard to find one that i liked
i just found some photographer on reddit with good shots lol
of irl ones?
yeah
mm
my monitors aren't really that vibrant for that
and its also for the gamer vibe lol
yea
I feel like the IRL ones should be reserved for macs
The display on macs is so nice for those kinds of wallpapers
Yeah that doesn't scream gamer to me LOL
lmao yea
@sacred chasm as i said, on the right monitor :)
Lmao imagine playing doom on that set up
perfect doom setup
also he has nice keeb and itx build so i automatically approve of him lol
that setup is impractical like heck
the one above that is
that window is going to eff you over with light
idk mans got 2 keyboards and mice thats like dual the productivity
maybe he's ambidextrous and uses both mice at the same time
How do you troubleshoot a pc that won't display on a monitor
dual wielding mouse user
(PC is prebuilt)
Well that's a problem LOL
i dont like dual mouses at once that scares me
also, that offset cable routing/stand is annoying the heck out of me
:)
Advice
@cloud drum you start by giving a list of hardware :)
as long as he has a cool keyboard and plants im fine with it
@foggy hazel it's amazing you even like my set up with how picky you are LOL
we all know he doesnt like that set up because of the rgb lol
LOL
@deep skiff the RGB does not help it, that is very correct
@cloud drum where is the monitor actually plugged?
naed you clearly havent been on r/battlestations lmao they love setups like that
@deep skiff oh i have, i have built plenty of them for customers
@cloud drum i know, but that does not prevent people from connecting to the mainboard hdmi/dp ports :)
hence the question
Sell idk
🤔 @foggy hazel i cant see you going in that subreddit
:)
@cloud drum idk what to tell you
@cloud drum next question: does the fans spin when you power on?
Yah and it turns off
@cloud drum does the computer even work
I'm asking for a friend
kappa
@cloud drum Any onboard debug LEDS?
I gotta ask him that
@cloud drum i would strongly recommend that you get him to join here
K i sent him a invite
and some of us actually do things beyond sending memes all day
Haha nice
i'm a college student 🙂
@deep skiff thank you for the praise :)
o
that must mean i am doing something right
I have a ok PC with some money
true @foggy hazel
Still rocking the 1060
pff
Skrt skrt
Oh fam
My 980 works like a champ with the triple 1440p 144hz set up tho
😛
i would flex but then naed would pull out his 9900k and 2080 ti so im not gonna
I need a better cpu tho
i dont have that at all @deep skiff
its all about the ryzen 9 dude
I'm bottleneck so hard
Intel gotta shutdown
my personal machines are fairly small
Is ryzen better than Intel now
dont u have a 9900k tho
@deep skiff nope
Oh fam

the machine i am on currently, is my tinker box, and thats a old 4770s
in its little shoebox case
Yes sir
I have a uhhh
I just put nice fans on it
@sacred chasm side question: what is missing from the setup above?
Mine?
no, the plany mc planty one
bro that is so far up now
its something dear to your heart that is missing
for whoever its for
Updating the bios is pretty ez right?
You just need a USB drive?
Reason: Bad word usage
oh you're right
That your set
Oops
@foggy hazel
I swore
no no @cloud drum
no no
Oh
looks pretty complete it has an ae86
don't offend naed like that
Lol wym
The headphones aren't powered 😦
That keyboard maybe
yall better not be dissing that keyboard
@cloud drum re: bios update: depends on the mainboard, but yes, usb stick generally needed
I have a MSI
And a USB
You're already way better than mine LOL
@sacred chasm this one is in group buy rn https://groupbuys.mechboards.co.uk/shop/hyper-7-keyboard-r3/ lmao
I can't what the
you have to be level 3 to send pics
bro why does that have so many keys
That's actually excessive LOL
The only use for that i could see is tha you're a programmer dude
its a newer space cadet
the missing amp(s), lack of power on headphones (because of missing amp(s) ), the (extra) powered mouse under the desk stand ... these are all parts of why i said that it wasnt a ... real setup
its a nice picture... but it doesnt look like something that is actually used
as in, actually used for working/enjoying
I didn't even notice the extra mouse Naed
okay this wasnt roastmybuild but ig were here now
re: hyper 7: there are a bunch of light programmers that i know that would KILL for that keyboard
my set up has actually come a long way
you can get a hyper 7+keycaps for like under $500 rn pretty sure with the groupbuys
@sacred chasm only thing that bugs me about yours is the non-centered stand on the single monitor setup
fix those cables in the back right
I DID
fix them more
that was its baby pic 😦
thats no excuse jk
o i approve of the outrun wallpaper
prebuilt or nah
500 for a machine with monitor?
I will build it. I have my own pc which is a 2080ti and a i9 and my brother loves it so i am gonna build him his own
No monitor
okay, so it moved from, "not happening" to " still not happening"
parts are currently too expensive for anything that is actually worth buying
at that end of the spektrum
$700?
doable, not pretty, but doable
yeah the markets kinda messed up rn with psus and other parts
I just built my friend a $800 one but im not very good with any cheaper
not trying to annoy you @thorny bronze but stock levels etc are just effed up
dang its 11 already
https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/DHTwrH/entry-level-amd-gaming-build. Is that any good
its "a" build
i think rn is the worst time to build a computer
prebuilt is your best option imo
but don't quote me
my pc is a prebuilt from 4 years ago
@thorny bronze what is your deadline?
tbh i'd check r/hws is about has any 2600/x at a decent price, for a budget 6 cores its $145 rn
if the deadline is soon
if your brother is young
and only plays minecraft
Just buy a cheap case
and put rgb fans on it
LOL
and figure out the rest
also @foggy hazel another reason why three individual monitors is because I can use my switch and use my computer at the same time
@foggy hazel which OS, Linux or windows for my server, currently its my sandbox environment, but I prefer Linux, but have winodows loaded so I can learn and play (and break things and then reload), considering a second server and loading one with windows and one with linux 😄
should i rather buy a Seagate Barracuda Compute (2TB) for its $54.98 USD or buy a Samsung 970 Evo 1TB? ion now seagate lookin kinda sketch • - •
know*
what is the price of the 970 Evo 1TB? @ebon fulcrum you seem to have left out that critical piece of info
the evo 1TB is $179.99
if youre cheap
Seagate says it’s 7200RPM and i have no idea what that means compared to SSD
go for the 2TB
HDD's are always better for mass storage
SSD imo after for important files/programs you want that are fast
Or games
if you're into that too
970 evo is pretty overpriced, an a80 will do everything 99.9% as fast for $40-50 less
yeah its all for gaming but I dont think ill own over 30 games so
Or, just get a 512gb A80 for $68 and a 2tb HDD for $58 totaling $126.
@cursive wharf Which 2TB HDD?
Seagate barracuda.
So I’m building a PC for $600. What CPU and GPU should I get for that price for gaming?
Ight
So Im pretty new to PC building and I want a really nice rig. Just wanna know if I have a good combination of parts here. I dont plan on ordering this stuff soon, I'm just kinda dreaming.
@snow blade I suggest just linking your pcpp list and not a screenshot
Because I see a lot of money being spent on pure aesthetics
Also, why so much ram lmao
idk. I'm new to this. I got no clue how much I'd need.
Alright, usually all you need for gaming is 16gb.
Rgb software? Idrk about fusion 360, but MSI mystic lights takes like 300mb total usually :p
Like if you want overkill, sure 32gb might be fun, but 16gb is all you need.
Anyways give me one second, I'll make a 2000$ build focused on performance to show you some things I might do
yea 64gb is overkill for 99% of uses
ok I'll switch out the ram
most I’ve seen used on a normal basis was like 50gb in photoshop
Also, mostly just gaming? Not really doing stuff like video editing?
Wtf how does Photoshop take so much
idk
dude was doing heavy work and had like 40gb used on a single photo
I mean I don't do much professional work so
Idrk
I can't use it all up
You may
Back to list making
I dont do video editing
also i feel like I should have more than just the 2TB SSD
so much wasted space for HDDs in that case
This is a performance focused build for gaming
3600+2080ti
And God damn have prices been wack, like a week ago the cheapest 2080ti was a EVGA black at like 999$, now it's like 110$
tomahawk hate intensifies
it usually comes back in stock within a week or two tho
Can't bank on that due to Corona sadly
Sure go for it
dual M2, better LAN/Audio chip
ok so over half the budget goes into the graphics card?
But it was demonstration build :p
Nic, lemme just break it down.
Gaming depends HEAVILY on the GPU performance, and CPU being next in line.
most gaming builds have 40% - 50% of the budget to GPU
CPU cooler wise, the AMD Ryzen lineup has decent stock coolers, no need to drop another hundred on a cooler unless you're overclocking.
Thermal paste usually comes with cooler. For Ryzen stock coolers, it comes preapplied.
It is an "eh" option to spend $25 on a cooler for quieter operation tho
Gammaxx 400 is $25 - $30 rn iirc
(as I said, demonstration build)
Just saying spending another 130$ doesn't make sense
Noise wise, sure you can invest in a 50$ cooler, there's enough room in the budget.
and I shall put in extra notes when I think they should be added, as you didnt specify much on lower end coolers
Fair enough
What's next, SSD?
Samsung SSDs are generally overpriced, Silicon Power A80 provide similar speed and good endurance at a much lower cost, also, it usually makes sense for a SSD+HDD combo, as not all programs need to be placed in the SSD, with HDDs being much cheaper.
@ebon fulcrum sorry don't know if anyone already answered for me or not, but I would go with the 2TB, will be a hair slower then SSD, but value wise you get more, you also have the option of 4 TB for about $70 USD (note when I picked this drive up I only paid $40 for it
yeah thats what I was thinking. Put All the stuff I wanna load up fast in the SSD, put everything else in the HDD
https://www.amazon.com/gp/your-account/order-history/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_pagination_3_4?ie=UTF8&orderFilter=year-2019&search=&startIndex=30 (the 4tb drive if your interested)
RAM technically. Long story short, higher freq gives better perf for Ryzen. Tho there is a limit (cant really put in 4800 RAM and have it truly increase perf) and some other variables to include. Such as timings. Which this RAM has decent timings, good enough for what you need
don't forget about the infinity fabric (cpu related more so then ram related)
Case is personal preference most of the time, went for a 'generic' case at the usual price range.
Eh, above 3600mhz on the ram and you'll be dealing with either IF OC or decoupling IF and ram speeds
Also, so long as there is only one major operation on the HDD being ran (download, game, OS, etc) then it's fine. It gets issues when two major things are running on it. Say for example; OS and game. Wont go too well. Or game and game download. Also wont go too well
But if you just run one game at a time with doing no other "major operation" an HDD is barely slower then SSD
So having an SSD for OS and HDD for games is ideal due to that
PSU wise, I'm too tired to look for a better deal, RM series PSU are pretty good, good enoug price. 750w is way more than you need, but can't be bothered rn.
PSU stock gets wacky
PSU has been one of the few rollercoasters in the Human Malware adventure pricing and stock wise
Lets say I care a bit more about aesthetics 😂 I want a clean white theme and I really like that particular case
Problem is airflow
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Yj2Xp8 it got more expensive... damn gpu
case doesnt have great airflow
Remember what I said about the ram?
And the CPU cooler?
Swap those two out and that's easily 200$ saved
...
Money isnt a huge consideration right now anyway
If you want a more white build
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dnpXp8
I went with a mATX mobo because I wanted it to be a bit smaller but the case I chose is kinda huge anyway
maybe I should restart
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/43RDXv
My suggestion, with some aesthetics in mind.
TD500 mesh is back in stock so I'm happy I can recommend a good looking case again
@snow blade What do you think about that case?
I think mine looks a whole lot better for only $35 more. btw I would be able to paint just about any color case white
I'm going to sleep now, good luck, and get your sleep too.
I appreciate the help.
I feel very stupid now but at least I wont feel stupid later after wasting a lot of money
What I can tell you is that case limits you in both part options, and airflow. Not the best imo, but if you can't find anything better,
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think I can make the micro ATX work.
Alright you do you, good luck for the month of May.
hello does getting a 2080ti graphics card upgrading since my gtx980 ti died will that effect anything if i also get a 144 plus mghz monitor sorry i dont know how to ask this question im seeing if since my cpu and mother board are in great condition as well as other parts power supply and ram will a old 6700k skylake core i 7 make the megahurts lower on the new monitor with also adding the 2080 ti
my old monitorr is 60hz
and the one i want to get is 2k res and 165hz
or if i get the 2080ti and replace the dead 980 and also get the monitor give me the frames and megahurts on the new monitor?
if by "megahurts" you mean hz, in the context of refresh rate. Then yes and no.
witch one do u choose for me
2080 Super
think about it like this
the 2080TI is supposed to be 999 usd
it is not really close to that
yea i was thinking the rtx level graphics card been out for a while i think in 6 months there guna come out with new gpus?
Might be more than 6 months with the virus
the rumour is "sometime this year"
oh yea everything is slow gotcha
we dont know if that is december 30th or august 1st
the only thing that is 100% certain right now, is that the HPC part will be released in the fall
because Nvidia has a contract for one of the supercomputers (which uses that part)
(and that is where a lot of the rumours about the consumer parts come from)
i hope that makes sense :)
the problem im having since my graphics card died i spent 1400 dollars on a msi laptop with 9th gen core i7 and a 1660 ti but when i read the specs it was all good but for what im trying to do is stream and record for youtube but my stream labs health reports 49 dropped frames in 8 hour stream in the low 720p downscale main scalee is 1080p
but when i dont record or stream i get 144 frames with the maximum settings in all games
because you simply dont have the headroom to keep your cpu cool @open brook
(thats the very simplified reason)
ohh
also, here is a suggestion for a 2080 Super
700-ish is a fair deal different to 1200 ish
so its not the cpu technology in the laptop its that tthe cpu is reaching a super high tempature
ok ok
if you could stick a kilo of metal on the cpu as a heatsink, it would do wonders for performance
again, very simplified
a couple of questions for you thou
have you got a ssd?
my old desktop or new msi laptop
the 6700k
yea the desktop has 500 intel ssd gb
and 2 terabyte mechancal
i recently bought a usb 3.0 external 4 tb that im guna put on the desktop and take it out of the laptop
okay, i ask, because a ssd, just about any model, will give a heck of a lot of "snappiness" to a older system like yours
yea
keep the following things in mind
your cpu (6700) is not all that fantastic core count wise
so, a new GPU will only be able to do "so" much
so when i get the new monitor make it 1080p not 2k and set the stream output and downscale both to 1080p?
there is a fair chance that you can run into simply running out of processing power
that is for you to play around with
kk
just dont expect the trees to grow to the moon okay?
kk
another thing to keep in mind is your PSU
reason i mention that is you saying your old 980 TI died
they are notoriously long lived normally
so i have to ask: How did it die?
one day
i turned on the pc
i presseedd space bar
to turn it on
and it went to the america trends page
but it was all red
once the windows logo came out it was red in the back
and the display went black
lost signal
hm, that sounds like it quite simply just gave up the ghost finally
fair enough
its just something i kinda have to ask about. Because people sometimes forget to mention the "detail" that their PSU blew up or something like that
yea
Do you know what model your PSU is?
i think the duration this pc build lasted was from 2016 to 2020
thermaltake tough power series 80 gold 650wattt
so, not that old, and IF the psu was bought new in 2016, it is most likely still in warranty
yea
warranty is good
i also wonder if it has something to do where i live in taiwan i dont know if american outlets are better or something either
u know where u plug in the power cord?
if anything, i think your power balance is better than the average US
yea never had a shutdown ever since i moved from cali to taiwan
the electrical grid in the US is not known for being super stable :)
@open brook do you need recommendations for specific cards or is the 2080 Super part enough?
yea i can get the right one i know a lane in the capitol where i live where its a pure electronic blocks for pc parts they have retailers also name brand stores where u can get the parts like asus msi etc
just know this: anything much beyond 700 is gouging
i know, not local currency, but that is the baseline you have to work with
naw its all goood i recently bought a meddicine for my psorasis that cost 10k a syringe for 6 month treatment lol 700 is ok
What is a good 1tb m.2 ssd pci-e 3.0 for general use
You got questions about monitors or?
@trim harbor the A80, which is about 130 usd is a solid choice
let me know the link when ever u get the chance naed
on which @open brook ?
the 2080
you can get any you want @open brook
ok cool
just dont get a radial fan one (also known as a blower style)
and you should be good
radial fan models = 1 fan on the card
they make a heck of a lot of noise for no real reasons (in the consumer space)
@open orchid still need recommendations?
the ones im looking at for the 2080 super look amazing upgrading from 6gb to 8
the 2080 Super is a nice chip :)
its also gddr6
if i dont have any plans to stream or play anything above 1080p because i dont want to buy a new monitor is there any real reason to go with a 2070 instead of a 2060 when it comes to price
@trim harbor consider looking into what resolution upscaling/downscaling can do for you
specifically, rendering a game at a higher resolution and then scaling down to your monitors supported resolution
@open brook any other questions?
would you wait till the next gen gpus come out? Like i already have a rx580 8gb and it runs everything just fine but I can see down the road not having everything to run newer games
Liek do GPU prices drop when the next gen comes out
@trim harbor lets take those questions one at time
Im sorry
nothing to be sorry about
its just easier to answer them one at a time, so i dont end up confusing you :)
ok
re: do gpu prices drop when a new gen comes out?: In theory, yes. In practice? no.
there MIGHT be a few more sales etc, but it is not something i would hold my breath for
and the current Covid situation is not helping on that front either
any questions about what i just said?
no not that i could think of
i just got the notification i’m sorry :/
but yea i can move to displays if that’s more appropriate
re: would i wait until the next gen? : If i dont need a card, i dont buy a card
i’m looking for under 250 for a straight monitor cuz i want 2 lol
so in that sense, you could say i am always waiting, until i am not, and then i buy what i want at that point in time. And then i am waiting again :)
a different answer would be this:
If you are not currently in need of more GPU power
why buy a new card?
@open orchid https://pcpartpicker.com/product/k33mP6/msi-optix-g24c4-236-1920x1080-144-hz-monitor-optix-g24c4 <- fairly solid one
Thank you
you are very welcome @trim harbor
Have a good night everyone
thanks you naed again with the best help <33
@open orchid this one is a bit more "my" type https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pXMTwP/msi-optix-g241-238-1920x1080-144-hz-monitor-optix-g241
likewise :)
you are very welcome @open orchid
what’s the biggest difference of the 2
thats the article you start with @open orchid
yes, it is 5 years old
and yes, it is still valid enough
you are very welcome :) best of luck figuring things out :)
i might go with that AMD build or something close to it you sent me
if another ryzen comes out thats better for gaming i might upgrade tbh but we'll see
the next "interesting" time for CPU's seems to be may 21st
with intel releasing their new one?
amd
but its on the low end
but they are interesting in price and potentially in performance
why/how? its complicated
just nod your head and say yes really :)
so i guess whenever reviews come out we'll see what tops what i guess
ive learned to nod my head and say yes to most PC related things recently
a lot of things you really dont need to know the details of
i can tell you the details, if you really want
but i can also almost guarantee that your eyes will cross, multiple times, in the first 20 minutes
lol im okay ill learn with time
:)
Is water cooling worth it if you're not overclocking?
it would most just be for looks, air has better value
I see
user preference
so i dont generally order online very much, and i know with whats going on in the world sometimes shipping can get messed up.. but is it normal that one out of 4 packages has been stuck at "in transit to UPS facility", while the others went past that yesterday or the day before, and all are in my area or already ready for pickup. Purposefully ordered it in a way that itd all be here by today, figuring maybe tomorrow if it got delayed a little, but its yet to have any scans on the tracking at all for like 2 days. Should I assume its just not coming? like its the psu ofc too, so I cant even just build the pc and wait on like the gfx card or something.. i just cant do anything until it gets here, and was trying to build it this weekend.
I would keep an eye on it, I have about 7 packages that are still "in transit" where 3 have already made it into my hands, remember with rona being a thing people are being more reliant on the postal system(s) so it may take slightly longer for things to happen then usual, I would say if needed wait 4 days (from date it should have arrived) and then may your enquiry as needed
hello guys. I have a question. Can I mix a 216 GB kit with a 28 GB kit the same module and timing in my build? Motherboard is dual channel though
Four slot boards with dual channel CPUs are always two dimms per channel
It might work, not confident, but if it works it works
And if it doesn't, it doesn't
thanks
@jovial ruin send a DM to @fresh garden they might can help you track down your package
@pallid garnet what type of memory? you can't mix non-ECC with ECC memory
@cloud drum just let it do its thing, and read 5 times and press once, just don't rush things and your fine
Read what 5 times
@pallid garnet it will normally work
Reason: Bad word usage
-_-
any directions that are presented as applicable
it may be restarting, BIOS updates usually will restart at least once during the process (Mine usually do)
@cloud drum your machine worked yesterday did it not?
thats what it was.
worst thing you can do is freak out and power down / restart during a bios update
big upgrade
Ohh hell yah it worked
yep
Kk
clean old paste, apply fresh paste
nice, more then likely it is just rebooting its self for the new updates to take effect, and will finish out the install after reboot, once the pc is done rebooting, just shut down install new chip and heatsink and enjoy
you'll have to reconfig your Ram, if you had XMP enabled, or boot device
in my case I do .. everytime a bios update it resets to default
which it should
ya
its "fun" when a bios doesnt btw
A what
speaking of pc things, I filled up my compressor, time to shut down and blow out all the bunnies.
"oh that series of settings from the other bios? lets just hold that on the backup bios and load that, but report we are using the new one"
that is hours and hours of pure concentrated "fun"
ive run into that many times @foggy hazel please stop bring into my PTSD into this 😄
lol
NI!
think thats bad try dealing with 60+ production servers and three deciding "i'm going to go down just for random shizzles and giggles and then when trying to come up corrupt part of the bios requiring a reload....oh and never mind you updating me to the latest I am going to report nothing, use the older corrupted bios and make you think im on the latest bios so F you!"
shouldn't have to, usually the computer will automatically boot into windows off the drive as normal
@pastel briar you got 2-3 hours of time that you dont need right now?
see pm @pastel briar
ok
@modest kraken hey bud, I understand you were needing some assistance with your computer? are you still needing help? let me know
Ya I am @pastel briar
ok cool, well let me know what your doing, what you need to do, what you want the end result to be, and we can take it from there
I connected a small pc that has a harddrive and I wanted to check what was on it so I could back up any important stuff and wipe the rest to use it on my pc I'm building and I connected it to my laptop and was wonder how I can see what is on the hdd from my laptop
ok, just to ensure I understand you:
1: you have connected an external drive of some type
2: you want to see what is on the drive
3: back up any data that you want to save (pictures, music, word files, ect)
4: format the drive and wipe it clean
5: install the currently external drive into your PC build for future use
is this correct?
Yes exactly
ok, do you already have a device such like the one pictured (generic picture to show what I am referring to)
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/705292630249963541/705831859409518652/s-l640.png
it allows you to connect one end to the hard drive in question and the other end to your actual PC where you want the files to go
I don't have that
ok do you have a device similar to that? (again does not have to be exactly as pictured)
No no devices that would connect the hard drive to the computer directly
ok for what you want (and to ensure that the computer doesn't do any thing funky) we should get something like that, an external device, so we can connect that drive up and be able to treat it as an external HDD (Hard Disk Drive), then just like a USB flash drive we can locate the file you want to keep (if any) and move those to your production PC (name for a daily driver PC)
then once that is done, we can erase/format (aka wipe) the drive and install in your new build
Ok so I think I understand but to be clear
Get the USB to Sata adapter and connect it then choose the files move them to the laptop and wipe the hdd?
correct (please NOTE this is assumeing the drive in question is ALREADY out of the PC/computer and is freely able to be moved about)
if not you may want to remove the drive from what ever PC your taking it from
but this is the simplest solution to use to get the results you are looking for
Right now it is in the pc and that is just bc I wanted to try connect the pc to the laptop to see if It could see what was on the hdd but I can be taken out with ease Ihave done it before
This is more or less the "end result" we are looking to achieve
With both usb ports? Or just 1
I see, well in that case we can do this one other way (yes there are more but they would involve getting more technical and I was told that you are perhaps not very familiar with PC so I am keeping it simple)
(about picture)
there are different versions of the same device, I have mentioned, one USB is power the other is data, but I don't want to confuse you
Ok so if I can find that one I will get it
if the drive is still in the other pc (going to be referred as oldPC) then we can use a USB flash drive and move your files that way to your Production PC (current PC or new PC)
however EITHER option is a viable way and will work
Oh we are getting all the parts for the new pc so there isnt a place to store them but my laptop
This is a USB flash drive (also called , flash drive, flash memory, usb storage stick, pen drive, usb drive but all names mean the same thing)
I have one
this is the other option (probabibly about the same in cost, but much smaller and easier to move and transport and less wires)
Ok
I would use that to "grab" what ever files you need to keep (pictures, documents, ect), do you know how to do the "drag and drop" method?
I dont know how to see what is on the hdd though?
"seeing" what is going on is not needed, the only thing we need to do is move files from point A to point B (in this case the old HDD and USB drive, does the PC (the one with the old HDD) still function and turn on?
Yes
do you have the ability to use that PC? (screen turns on, you can log into windows, and do things like browse the web, ect)
Yes but the only issue is that I dont have a keyboard
ok, do you have any keyboard/mouse in the house (sorry not trying to rhyme but apparently I did....)
?
I have a wired mouse and a keyboard on my laptop?
and those are both USB correct?
Yes my mouse is usb and laptop has a usb port
what about keyboard?
It is the laptop's keyboard it is on the laptop
Sorry if I didn't make that clear
so the best thing would be to do ONE of the following options
1: get a USB keyboard and USB mouse and your USB flash drive, connect all 3 devices to OLD PC, and move your documents, pictures, music (or anything you NEED to back up) on to USB flash drive
2: get the HDD adapter (preferrably with wall wart to supply stable power) and use that to do the same file move process to your lappy
as for making it clear no biggie, I'm used to Cooperate bigwigs that are a metric tone worse at this, you at least have a general idea so I can work with that 😉 so we are at least making progress
Ok I get it I'm gonna go with option 1 for right now because I have most of those stuff and I'm gonna get a keyboard anyway so I will follow up with you once I have all the components
kewl, if any of the things I said made no sense please don't hesitate to ask, that is why I am here, also we do have another option but I would rather reserve it for extreme situations (remote into the old PC and help you do the move)
I got it thanks for everything you have been really helpful thank goodness I came on this discord also Can I pm when I am ready to move on and have that parts should be soon in the next day or so
that is fine, I have nothing else going on so I am here just about 12h/7 you can also @ me as well
K thanks
np
Hey there, I'm new to Discord. Newegg website sent me over here for some help choosing a laptop. Anyone able to assist?
what kind of laptop are you looking for and what budget?
I mostly stream movies, and use the DVD player, watch YouTube. The most challenging thing I'll be using it for is streaming the huge million-pixel NASA satellite images.
Budge-wise, up to around $250 or $300?
I've done okay with an off-the-shelf Gateway, WalMart level
It's just their selection stinks
I can look around, do you need a dvd player built in the laptop or nah?
Yes, please!
Oh and the computer will be run through my television via HDMI cable--bad eyesight!
@little osprey welcome to the collective, if someone isn't already doing so I could help you out as well
It looks like TechGhost is on it, and thank you for the welcome!
LOL. I already read your advice to other customer, about moving images/documents with a thumb-drive. I can do that too, right?
Ok so for the budget this is what I could find, it's definitely not terribly fast but it should get the job done, only 2 issues i see is this might have issue driving to a high res tv like 4k and you would have to buy a separate dvd reader as the laptops I found did not have one.
1st: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1515403-REG/asus_r420ma_ds06_bl_laptop_celeron_n4000_4gb.html/specs
2nd:
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-15-3000-laptop/spd/inspiron-15-3580-laptop
Okay, I'll check those out--is the dvd reader connected via usb port?
yup, im looking for one rn
I guess it'll need multiple usb ports, as I use wireless keyboard/mouse
I'm profoundly disabled, so I try not to have cords strung everywhere.
might need a cheap usb hub then
okay, good idea!
Okay, and I should be able to find a usb hub by myself. Thank you so much for your help! Are you guys on here most of the time?
it's usually a bit quiet around this time of day, but there is usually always someone around
Okay. My son is a computer tech whiz, but I don't call him while he's at work. I may need to holler for help later, LOL. It sucks getting old!
Thanks again, ou've been so much help!
Yeah you can always confirm that something like this will work for you, and no problem anytime
Alright, see you guys soon!
see ya!
@little osprey yes anyone can do that, that is why I kept the directions as easy to understand as I could
@little osprey don't worry, that is why people like my self are here, to help others, if you have questions ask away, I do this daily so.... 😉
Oh hey
so my motherboard kinda isn’t showing up at my house from amazon and i kinda decided i want one that has wifi built in, any suggestions?
I guess you could return it if it arrives
maybe you can track shipping
Hey everyone - great news for those who helped me - my PC is up and running successfully!!!
that being said - my MOBO has red LED lights for CPU and DRAM on boot but goes away once it gets to BIOS page/Windows... should i be worried if everything else appears to work fine? gamed for 4-5 hours on it yesterday with no issues?
so thats normal? And on shutdown/restart the GPU and BOOT LED's light up red also
but again goes away once you actually boot up
and no LED stays on once PC is up and running
think of it like a system check.
when you turn the key on in your car, and you get the intrument lights for a minute.
that is true
same thing.
had not thought of that
🙂
thanks bruv
it's when nothing happens, and you see the light on is when you know you have an issue
gotcha
Is the Ryzen 5 3600 and sapphire pulse Radeon RX 580 a good combo
1600AF/2600 + 1660S would probably be more ideal
3100x when that comes out.
Mr1111
you are always helpful
what are your thoughts on my issue a few comments up?
It's not an issue, thats pretty normal
ok TY
when my motherboard arrives i think i’m gonna return it and i’m gonna get one with wifi built in
is there anything wrong with this?
and does it support ryzen 3000 out of the box?
That board is fine
You could just get a wifi adapter so you don't have to return it
Or Ethernet
i don’t think ethernet will be an option for a long time
and i was looking into wifi adaptors and i know exactly nothing about it
you generally will have two types, USB and PCI card USB just plug in and go, PCI plug into case (internal) and install applicable driver (if even needed) and go, either option is more or less straight plug and play
I use an internal wifi card currently
i mean more of like the long string of numbers and letters
i have no idea what it means and didn’t want to get the wrong thing
as in the "product names"?
like for example "WI-FI N 1200AC"?
there really isn't a "wrong thing" to buy, generally most people have (in todays modernized age) Wi-Fi N, "N" denoting the standard, some I have seen use G still though that is outdated, so as long as you get something with "Wireless N" or AC your perfectly fine
