First thing why 2 ssds
Yeah 1 nvme and 1 states ssd
why not 2 ssds
Well get a hard drive
@sharp perch no
I mean you can get cheaper nvme
One hundred more for the ssd isn't a big deal
And if you get 2 m.2s you can use it as a faster style so you can make your own ssds faster by having them go sort of idk what is it called naed
@raw igloo any special reason behind the actual parts, that we need to know about?
White color scheme
@sharp perch no, you cant.
Future proof for a while
There was something to make it much faster
not like what you are rambling on about no.
I heard it from a worker at Linus tech tips
A 2 tb M.2 is expensive
@sharp perch what you might be talking about is caching, the kind we do in the serverspace
but that is not relevant for the consumer space
and again, it wont make the machine actually "feel" faster
K
@raw igloo at a quick glance, the build is about 300-ish usd overpriced
What you mean
Like what
@foggy hazel will explain:)
oh no, you had to comment
Oh
so you can sort that out yourself @sharp perch
is the Cpu a mistake
Well you already have it don’t you
Well yeah but than you need another motherboard
"I mean not gonna lie Nvidia’s GPU’s are fine
Cheaper and reliable" wrong
Okay naed give me some sarcasm:(
I only bought the Cpu I can change the rest
no need, you are doing that fine on your own @sharp perch
Okay I’m bad at this but if you want you can say what you think I just wanted to say what I think
K but don’t say that I don’t wanna help because I wanna help people here to:/
@raw igloo the main "problem/difference/challenge" with the AMD vs Intel question is this: They excel at two different things
and how people value those two things gets confused a fair deal by the people talking about it
on the intel side you have single cores being silly fast (to some extent)
but it comes with a hefty price attached
He means amd is cheaper and has more threats depends on which on and intel is more for performance correct naed?
Yeah im 550 down
on the amd side, you have a lot of cores and "close enough for 99.9999% of people" performance for a fair amount less
Amd is more stream and intel is performance
@sharp perch not quite
its a lot more complicated than that, if you want to get nitty gritty about it
but there should not be a need for that here
I have a full list of builds lol
The one I got is 8 core 16 thread
From performance to looks
Will it be hard to build?
let me just grab a 2500-ish amd build list
i dont see why it wouldnt be
i know i already had a pc part picker list and like you think i’m not serious about any of this but is a i9 9900k better or an ryzen 9 3900x better
Depends
This is 2k for amd
Again this build isn’t mine
This is more for looks
@raw igloo
@raw igloo https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yMRQgJ
just a random build thrown together
a fair amount of the mainboard cost comes from the integrated Wifi
instead of the separate card like in your list
And look what mister did lol picked a nvidea gpu what a surprise:)
why wouldnt i?
if you are talking about a build at that budget, for gaming, that is your only choice at this point in time.
Look at my builds
@sharp perch "cheaper and reliable"
So what do you think is it good?
please read and dont just make up what you think i am saying.
@wicked berry trying to post a build?
Yeah ?
send it to me in a dm, and i will post it for you
Cool
your lvl is not high enough, which is why it is being snagged by the bot :)
Ahh makes sense
when your name goes "blue", you can post links yourself :)
Cool
on behalf of @wicked berry https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/yQPRRk
Good idea on a big server like this
aye :)
for those that want to comment on @wicked berry 's build, keep in mind, it is a AUS based one.
so availability and prices are going to be bonkers
and that is the normal state of things
I did get a really beast of a PC but it was in USD it was like 3k XD
:)
what you have there is not a bad machine at all
but standard question is this: any special reason for the tomahawk?
(Looks like tuf b450m pro is out of stock in Australia rn)
it has been out of stock over there for the last ... 4 months or so :)
I was close of doing it all my self but my CFS made me to tierd so a guy gave me a hand
CFS?
If I can say something
Chronic fatigue syndrome
ah
No :p
Wait till the covid 19 stops and get you’re parts than because right now the whole economy is going down
Yeah I probably will
@wicked berry you got a need/use for wifi?
and what is your audio gear? usb or minijack?
It would be nice but my pc will be right near my modem so.
fair, have to ask :)
Have you guys seen the new WiFi router from asus
what about audio?
It’s now got rgb they can’t stop putting rgb on anything or they go nuts:)
Ahh Dame I forgot what the plug is called the Round one that gose in to phones XD well some phones
mini jack
Like I would not mind messing around with like a sound card or something later on but for now 2k is good XD
reason i ask is that it should be possible to get mainboard with a soundchip that is not horrible
at your budget that is
Oh really 😏 I do like nice sounds
because the specific mainboard you have only really excels at overclocking
and even at that, it is, imo, highly overrated
and very overpriced
At this point the parts are just there for a guide so if you have any suggestions please do send them
I'm on vc if you want
i can join in a moment :)
Oh wait how do I do push to talk on phone XD
Is the corsair rmx 850 from 2018 still good? Also, does it matter that the seller is in Canada and I'm in US. Is anything different?
Ya thats a good psu but probably not needed at that wattage
As for the Canada thing I believe that it should be the same but I'm not certain
Thanks! I'm looking at one on ebay but the seller is in Canada. I'm going to have to figure out that out
Ebay PSUs aren't ideal...
It's listed as brand new
Never opened?
Is it worth upgrading from an 8700k to a 9700k
no afaik
@stoic island yeah. So I should be able to register and be covered under warranty?
Welll
I'm not too sure about corsair, but It gets iffy since you didn't pay for it
How much is it?
because I would rather get something new if it's close to the cost of a new RMx psu
$139, I don't know about shipping yet
Why can't I post a link to my build? Am I still too new here?
U have to wait till ur name is blue
And corsair warranty is non-transferable.
Reason: Bad word usage
Thanks @stoic island
hey @foggy hazel i noticed you mentioned that the phanteks amp is going to be hard to find, do you have any suggestions for a replacement ?
@latent storm I would suggest this https://www.amazon.com/Enermax-Revolution-Certified-Supply-ERF650AWT/dp/B07PB67ZS7/
@plucky lily
pinged wrong person but still works
Revolution D.F. is higher on the tier list,
and most PCs that aren't multi GPU don't need more than 650w.
wow that is a lot of money
lol me too
😂 No not even close to rich. I've just been saving. And since I've just been sitting around gaming I decided to finally pull the trigger.
Then I would suggest this
https://www.amazon.com/Enermax-Revolution-Certified-Supply-ERF650AWT/dp/B07P6SJJN6/?th=1
750w
while 650w would do just fine for you
with the amount of money you're willing to spend, might as well get some more.
i’m working a mf minimum wage job to try to get mine 😳
I'll check that one out. Thanks man
If you're wondering, the tier list I'm using is in the pinned messages.
@plucky lily RMx 2018 an okay PSU. However as an 850w PSU, it isnt ideal realistically. To give you a scale of what a standard PSU can do, you can run a stock 3950x and 2080Ti off a 550w easily. A PC that'd need an 850w would be an HEDT CPU with dual GPU. Basically multi thousand USD PC. PSUs price should scale with the PC price so you can get premium things like multi rail or manual OCP setup, better quality all round, etc
Thanks for the info. I was basically going off of something I watched or read recently that said psu's efficiency is best at around 50% usage. So that's why I was looking at 850's
Hei, the reason for 750w is with that build already having a 2080ti and a high end lga1151 board, I'd rather have them still have good oc headroom even with the new power hungry 10th gen Intel chips.
seems fair then I guess. Pretty sure 9900k max OC with standard high end cooling is usually about 250w, 100w more then 3950x
@plucky lily Yes, tho it's only about a 2% efficiency difference between 50% usage and 95% usage for most PSUs. Could be better spent on saving the money for whatever else there is, or getting a quieter PSU, PSU with better performance (voltage ripple/regulation, transient response, etc)
which, instead of getting a decent 850w (RMx) you're now getting a pretty good 750w (DF)
So you would also recommend that Enermax 750?
yeah
@cursive wharf @stoic island Thank you both so much!
@strange garden nah i dont think so
You're welcome.
welcome
Hey guys
My friend needs a 500 cad budget pc
Hell just be using it for gaming
Please halllllpppppp
whats the diff between these 2 cases
if anyone can help me with this id greatly appreciate it
literally just the decals
its the same case, just different prints on the outside
oh wait
nevermind
the h500 is a ATX Mid case, the other one is a mITX case
Overwatch theme
Yup
its just the model number
oh but there basically the same ones
I’m looking for a 600w psu no ketchup and mustard cable 60+ bronze for 50-70 dollars send a link if you know one with those specs I listed thanks 🙏
EVGA 600 GD?
It’s 80+ gold and I believe you can get it for around $70
If not, though, what about the EVGA 600 BQ? Not the best quality, but it’ll work
Ok thank you
cx 2017 550 depending on what the price is right now, its been fluctuating due to the virus
What do you mean?
I can either do a crossfire with my Radeon 270 (really old, I know) for around $100 on ebay or buy a new 5500XT
How do I turn on ray tracing on my pc
Accioly what is your budget right now?
Crossfire is not very well supported, and I believe that card is pretty bad even in crossfire.
Imagine that I'll spend $500 with GPUs for the next 20 years
So... What are you willing to spend now?
If you tell me a GPU will be good for the next 20 years I can spend $500 max
Or if it will be good for the next 10, $250
Nothing can last 20 years... I'll take a look at whats good right now for ~250.
GTX 1660 Super runs abotu $240. Best value for the money
I'd get the GTX 1660 super right now.
But if you wait a bit, they're rolling out gddr6 to all the GTX 1660 supers right now, which increases performance by a good bit.
nvm they're already gddr6
But I would still suggest 1660 super, heres one for 240.
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GeForce-192-bit-Support-Graphics/dp/B07ZHDZ1K6/
That looks great! Thanks guys
It makes sense when two people answer the same thing at the same time
*GDDR6 in the 1650 Supers.
I'll go for it... I don't wanna repeat the same mistake I did by buying a DDR3 memory card because my mobo is old... Maybe in the future I'll do a new build using my ssd and GPU 😄
I just did a new system a couple months ago. Ryzen 5 1600AF, Asus Prime B450, 16GB DDR4 3600 Corsair Vengeance, Thermaltake Contac Silent cpu cooler and a Thermaltake case fan. Spent ~$310 on all that.
Re-used my Corsair Carbide 200R case, Antec Earthwatts 600w PSU (maybe 650, i forget), Kingston 512GB 2.5" SSD, GTX 660 video card.
Love the build. CPU doesn't get much more than 45C when gaming atm. I'm saving up to get a GTX 1660 Super to complete the build.
Hei I need help
Or someone lmao
I have a single stick of 16gb 2666mz should I over clock it
your not running at dual channel?
Good grief, now the Ryzen 3600 is out of stock
no i have on stick of 16
im gunna buy another stick but for now should i overclock it?
Yes
Ok now where do I go
Take a picture?
Prebuilt mobo might not support overclocking
Check the tabbed named "configuration"
Damn
Well. That's another reason not to go prebuilt I guess
I'm assuming bios
Motherboards don't lock you out of ram oc, I've never heard of that happening.
So I can’t do anything
Do some quick research on Google about if anyone has done it on that prebuilt
Ugh ok 😦
i dont think i can
i literally dont kno what to do with my pc its so bad i have an 2080 and it runs like crap
Maybe link the exact prebuilt and maybe someone can outline a plan to upgrade it to be less crap
Might sleep soon
Would there be any type of bottleneck if I use a Ryzen 5 3600 with a Radeon 5700xt? Good combo?
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/omen-by-hp-obelisk-desktop-intel-core-i7-8700-16gb-memory-nvidia-rtx-2080-2tb-hdd-256gb-ssd-hp-finish-in-shadow-black/6285801.p?skuId=6285801
If someone could help me out I would seriously appreciate it
with finding new/better parts for me to part out and buil
@unkempt ibex ok I have a few recommendations
Have you benchmarked your pc to see if any of your components are under preforming
Oof you got that prebuilt
Personally I would’ve built it because its more price effective
For the amount you spent on the pre built you could probably have a betrr pc
Id also recommend making it dual channel though it wont show major increase in fps
I also recommend trying to use intel xtu
What mini ITX motherboard would you suggest? Something compatible with Ryzen 3600 cpu
Honestly, I feel the limiting factor is probably still the ram. You could swap that single stick out for these, faster speeds, prob better latency, and dual channel.
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820231941
@unkempt ibex
Other than that, there's no good "small" upgrade you can do to make it run smoother
The GPU seems good
Mobo and CPU are good Enough
Maybe another nvme drive or something could speed it up more, but that doesn't affect performance, just load times.
Intel chips do too up to 3200mhz.
Just buy another stick so its fuel channel
Lemme see if I can find a source
Duel*
dual*
Intel chips don't benefit much above 3200mhz, but Ryzen does at ~3600 mhz and above
For the price of another kit
I saw a case where a person had 10% or more improvement in frames from switching from 2400mhz to 3200mhz ram
I thought he has 2666
huh
wait
god damn intel
they prob have one of the worse boards
so 2666 is what they're stuck with
dual channel still works.
z370 or nothing
CPU cooler would still be a good investment
Maybe like a NH-U12s
yo guys
my friend needs a 2000 cad gaming pc for gaming/editing/recording
at 1440p
please config
@woeful agate 2000 cad including monitor or no monitor
alright
@woeful agate
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Y7TwK4
I would put in a 3600 but it's out of stock
nope
kk
The case has a fan controller
i need build under $800
or pc complete
?
@woeful agate you could get another fan if you want to
but it's got 3 rgb fans in the front
you could
Darn it... I should probably at least just go ahead and order my case, drives, and keyboard while I wait for my motherboard and CPU to come back in stock
I mean, it's not going to hurt them to sit in a box in my house while I wait for the other parts, is it?
@little osprey all new parts? anything re-used in it?
no
yes collect all new parts
@little osprey all new parts? anything re-used in it?
@silver lichen
Or maybe I'll just order the case and keyboard. It's not likely anything wacky is going to happen with motherboard form factors in the next few months.
Or maybe I'll just order the case and keyboard. It's not likely anything wacky is going to happen with motherboard form factors in the next few months.
@cold sorrel i new for pc i just need pc a good one for gaming
everything is out of stock rn
its so wacky
no good 1660 super in stock
or 2060
Just use this,
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bxgXWb
until 1660 super is in stock
Buy EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Super Sc Ultra Gaming, 6GB GDDR6, Dual Fan, Metal Backplate, 06G-P4-1068-KR: Everything Else - Amazon.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible on eligible purchases
This is the build I was aiming for, but everything is disappearing from stock on Newegg:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wznnCL
why
I'm still contemplating to just go ahead and order the case, the SSD, the hard drive and keyboard. Those parts can just sit and wait on everything else coming back in stiock
you could
have some patience
I have to admit, I like the case and worry if it goes out of stock it'll just vanish for good. Much like those RGB fans I really liked.
what people (generally) consider vanishing for good is the following: Something goes out of stock for the 1-2 months that they remember to be interested in that product.
as i said, have some patience
do i need to get a new motherboard?
@unkempt ibex if this is still the same conversation from the other day? then i believe the conclusion was no.
yeah lmao
The one about OCing.
-_-
ok cool any recomondations ona cpu cooloer?
Well actually, first you might want to see how the temps are on your stock one.
@unkempt ibex i have one recommendation for you: Focus on what was talked about the other day first
(ram?)
Side note, you think this is one of the older mobo that restricts ram speeds to 2666mhz?
I can't quite find the mobo in it from googling
it could be
but i do know that IF he asks customer support about it. they will tell him the max ram speed it supports
Because at first I was suggesting 3200mhz ram, because I didn't realize some intel boards limits to 2666mhz
so, the general theme is like the previous conversation today, patience :)
Like always, a thing I lack :D
bu tif i get new ram could i overclock it or no
If it doesn't let you now, it wouldn't let you later.
I believe so.
@unkempt ibex start by fixing your ram
and please read that as it is written
not as a recommendation to OC anything.
ok so im gunna buy the 2 i got the link for
Actually wait
ok
eh?
left side, zip english
That might be worth to pin :p
Left side, zip english
Ive got the H510i. Im trying to find fans to replace the two that came with the case. Im going to keep the stock configuration (two exhausts, one top 140mm, one rear 120mm. Does anyone recommend good quality fans to replace the OEM ones?
well
I believe H510i doesn't have great airflow
so it might be worth going for the pressure oriented arctic P12 and P14 fans
yeah i wasnt sure if i needed pressure or airflow fans. all the videos i watched just confused me more
ok i have it up imma take a picute
WarfareT click the "mainboard" tab
yea thats what I needed
The chipset is H370
Doesn't support overclocking, and max memory is 2666mhz.
Can you click on the memory tab?
and take a screenshot of it?
aye
oof it's prob worth in investing in lower latency ram
brb
Naed, do you think it's worth still going for the ripjaw kit, even if it can't at it's full potential? Just for if the build is upgraded one day?
Fair enough
What do you think about this?
https://www.newegg.com/ballistix-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820164203
a single 16 stick should do the trick
@unkempt ibex could you take a picture of the "SPD" tab in cpu-z
(Mr1111, that shows the part number, if possible, for the ram)
Oh really
I see
If I search 16gb cl19 its just filled with a bunch of different listings for this stick...
aye, give it a bit
I just find it funny
lets see if he gets back with a picture :)
:)
hmm
aye, this is why i wanted the SPD picture :)
i sent it right?
2*8 it is
Yea...
yes, and thank you for that @unkempt ibex
This would be my suggestion.
https://www.newegg.com/ballistix-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820164203
aye, seems solid enough
so i buy those?\
could i sell my old ram then?
you could try
ok
but i doubt anyone but someone else with a Omen would want it
it really is not very good ram
Well, now you have the part number, you could include that in the listing
so when i get my new ram i tak ethe old one ou and just stick the other 2 in?
yes, out with the current single stick, and in with the 2 new ones
ok
Just a warning, it might not boot right away and take a bit to train the memory.
technically no
It is, but lower latency.
Edit : Same frequency, lower latency.
It's a lot of hassle and money to spend
going with a new board is not that simple for you
yeah but my motherboard already sells for 240
because of the custom nature of the Omen
oh
(PSU and case)
okay
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/h7IAAOSw08dd833o/s-l1600.jpg <- this is the mainboard btw @stoic island
it is a very .. spartan .. board
Huh
It's a lot of hassle for not a lot of gain right now.
@unkempt ibex for now, buy the ram, get the ram, install the ram. And then we talk about how it performs after that.
okay
and my pc is loud and hot
should i also get a better cpu cooler or more fans
Maybe both.
uhm alright i saw a cpu cooler is was like one fan its hard to describe but it was liquid cooled
Wait
wait why
because it has an impact on things around it
ok
Unconventional board, and bad rad support I assume?
that board screams "made for one type of cooling"
and the current cooling throws air across the board
Do you know the size of the case fans?
no let me check
80mm, 120mm, 140mm, etc?
I mean take a look inside?
would it say on the fan haha
sorry to dump this on you @stoic island (but dinner prep calls), reviews of the unit should/might also give you the numbers
IF there is a product/model name on the fan, then yes @unkempt ibex
I'm currently eating lunch rn that's why lol
i do not see anything on the fans
Can you take a picture?
Maybe I can quickly take a glance, and look it up when I finish eating
Just 1 fan?
and a stock cooler
aye what headset is everyone rocking?
Bose soundlink
corsair void pro
Because that's all I can find
ok
And CPU cooler wise, that might depend on clearance in the case.
How many can you fit in the case?
Is there anywhere you can put fans on the front?
@stoic island how are the HS60’s?
Hey I got a question about my pc I have a pc that has a nvidea gtx 1050 ti is possible that I can upgrade to a nvidea gtx 1060 by any chance
They're pretty nice @oak moss. Only complaint is that the wire is pretty short
@unkempt ibex ok can you take a picture of like the front?
@slender ore need more information, Laptop or desktop? Prebuilt?
how short is it? just plug and play?
Alright one sec
Yes
It's fine when you're sitting down
But for my config at least, with the headphones plugged into rear IO, I can't really move around wearing the headphone like standing up
It might be better just to show you
Ok send the info u need now
Huh
@unkempt ibex you can get 2. One on top and one exhaust
Its has a amd ryzen 5 2400g and a 14gb or ram
Link maybe?
@unkempt ibex I looked it up, you can fit a fan on top, those panels can come off.
Yes
dominator ram any good?
@unkempt ibex semi-random question, could you take a picture from the side that shows the bottom part of the case AND the surface it is on?
kk
yes. and now for another one
take a picture of the bottom of the case?
(as in, the part that is facing the desk)
(I assume you're trying to see if theres filters at the bottom that allows for another fan?)
distance
because if you look at the one above
there is bugger all distance from the table to the case itself
and that case seems to be pulling from the bottom
as in, the air intake is the bottom of the case
and if that is "practically" blocked ....
the part that it is standing on
I have to lift my pc up?
or tilt it on its side really
hm
why the heck are there not any "high" feet on that case?
because that is clearly pure intake grills
Uhm
question for you @unkempt ibex
Yep
are there any rubber feet at the corners?
Sorta yeah
Wish I had room to turn my tower right-side up, old PowerMac G5 case I gutted out and customized.. thing is so TALL... so much room to play around with though. Such a nice design, very heavy and clunky though hehe.
could you grab a picture like the last one, but showing one of the feet?
the G5 is a nice design indeed.
Side note, cases usually use the front to pull in air, not in the omen's case I guess.
but it doesn't come with stock fan on the top xD
(it even had the fan mounting holes and all lol)
huh?
I mean, even my focus g, which is made for front to back, with only an OPTIONAL fan slot at the bottom has somewhat substantial legs
naed I think its like a rubber ring kinda thing
@unkempt ibex is it resting/standing on that edge?
Yes
gah!!!!!!!!
Well no I push it a little of my desk to get the pic
it gets from the back and front of that
there isnt one at the back (as you can see in the picture above)
@unkempt ibex question: have you got 2 pieces of "something" that you could potentially put the machine up on?
if that makes sense?
Wish I could post the pictures of my "handy-work" lol... Someone was literally throwing out their old G5 and I scooped it up thinking "That's a pretty cool case!"
(something to prop it up)
yea that kinda thing
that could work
remember, the goal is to leave as much of the bottom of the machine "free"
it wont hurt!
:)
ok but i am still buying to 2 artic fans and the ram right?
the current topic is a side topic, so not related to the other things
that i will help answer after shopping :)
oh ok
if @stoic island doesnt beat me to it :)
I was trying to figure out case clearance, but I couldn't find anything on it lol
You think a lower profile noctua tower cooler could work Naed?
like a u12s?
a fairly high cooler could work, notice the shot of the cpu cooler with the gpu in the picture
well I mean
my d15 stands tall above my gpu xD
but d15 is disproportionately large
i would strongly recommend that whatever cooler is chosen, it should be one that doesnt require a change of backplate
i will be back in .. 45 minutes or so
you going with air or a fancy liquid setup?
so what cpu fan do i get or should i wait
i think air they want me to do
idk i have a stock cooler soo
They need to go air
the VRMs on that board relies on passive airflow from the air cooler
theres no VRM heatsink
and the airflow in that case is already abysmal
Hey guys
Question, about to build my pc but for Windows I read I have to make a copy USB from a different windows computer, the only one I have is messed up as hell screen looks wierd doesn’t work as fast as it should maybe viruses, will those issues transfer over while making the USB?
I didn't see your specs or system, but I always preferred the big ol Zalman heatsinks.. people either love or hate them though.
Why not use WC to cool the Vrms?
No, since the download onto usb is directly from microsoft, it shouldn't carry over virus files
...
why
I mean I have a huge nh-d15
@cedar spindle You can usually use any Windows 7/10 OS to load the Windows Installer onto.
Just toss it on your USB.
you can't just do that
@stoic island where I was looking it said we download a software from Microsoft then use that to “make” a new copy of windows on our current windows pc
Is there anyway I could get a clean windows install onto the USB from my Mac?
That... doesn't quite make sense xD
The windows you download from microsoft is like a clean copy
the only thing that windows does is windows
it doesnt copy over anything else
MS basically wants everyone to have Windows, they don't make it too difficult heh, they literally have a small file you download onto an external USB drive.
Can you send me the link for where to download😂
I’m sorry it’s my first build and I’ve spent wayyyy to much money
It's quite alright
@unkempt ibex so I am leaning on getting a tower cooler for you like this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y88BNYZ?tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1
That link makes so much more sense
the first one I read was sending me to the creation tool that’s why I got very confused
ah
for my cpu?
Yes
ok so im getting the 2 sticks of 8gb ram 2 artic fox fans and the noctua
get the ram and arctic f12 fans first
I need some other people's opinions on the noctua cooler first
ok
and some other considerations
What's the CPU?
i7 8700
Zalman's I always liked.. they are BIG though.
I'll brb. I'm gonna try to find the height restrictions in the case
@rustic bolt send me a pic of what you mean maybe?
Warfare, no.
I always think zalmans as the small dingy stock looking coolers
like these
CM Hyper 212 Evo is another good air cooler. I have it, but am using the ThermalTake Contac Silent 12 atm.
212 costs too much
ill be bck in 30 minutes if u guys have anything to tell me just dm it or something so i see it
212 is tried and tested
Gammaxx 400 is cheaper and same quality
Zalman's were always scary to install lol, I had the larger ones like the ZALMAN CNPS9500's
Ah I see
But they did the job... kept my last Phenom 9850 alive for over a decade.. still going strong downstairs hehe.
I paid the noctua tax for d15.
They're beefy, they're reliable, they're expensive, but they work well.
Not for everyone, I had one lined up for this build (Ryzen 5/ROG B350) but no need, the AMD stock heat-sink was fine.. I'm not too picky.
Ah
AMD stock is much better than intel stock.
anyways @cursive wharf you think you got any way to determind the height of whatever cooler that fits in that case?
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/NcHxPn list for reference, I have 9 fans Incl the AIO ones, what would they all plug into? Would I need to buy a separate controller?
Because while I do want a tower cooler in there, it might not fit, and we would need to use smth like a NH-L12s
I never used them in the past, guess I just got old and lazy on this build.. but I love this system.
the only thing I could suggest is a guesstimate with cross referencing cases similair sizes
They got a omen obelisk
I have no idea the size or anything
Wait, isn't ML360r bad or something
get the guy to just measure the outside I guess
I remember something about coolermaster aios not being great
I never looked into tests so idk
but never heard them for quality, so doubt they're great
Okay so the ML360r has a control module thing for the rgb and fan connectors on the AIO.
other than that, the case only has 3 chassis fan connectors, so I think you need a fan hub.
Actual reviews I think toms hardware and stuff
also, if you buy 2x 3x packs of fans, you can save money, and also have 2 hubs that comes with the fans
iirc lighting node pro is a fan controller/hub
I didn’t think I’d need it cause the lightning node said it would be compatible with upto 12 fans
But now after that I’m thinking maybe that’s only for the rgb and not the rest of the fans
I just hope I can atleast get the 3 on AIO and the 3 with the node working
Then I can figure out the other 3 at a later date when I can afford to get anything right now after my last parts I’m officially broke
no
Corsair fans are so overpriced
also node pro comes with two RGB headers, 4/6 fan headers, and smth else I think. idk what max daisy chain capacity is tho for the headers
@stoic island re: minimum height that will be okay
look at the add-in bracket "height"
its a traditional slot height, so that is a safe height as a start
hmm yes
Ru guys talking about my pc?
(the above is just info about "how to figure out clearance" for future reference)
we will be shortly @unkempt ibex
@cursive wharf I never thought it would’ve been so hard to build my own😂😂
I mean it doesn't have to be hard until you add in a ton of rgb and a ton of fans
lol
side note, a regular card is 100-ish mm high @stoic island
ah I see
so that gives you "some" idea about things
should be fine for the 125mm ish nh-u12s eh?
height wise? yes
Reason: Bad word usage
the challenge with the u12 @stoic island is the required backplate replacement
because IF there isnt a backplate cut-out, he would need to take out the mainboard
ok so im gunna buy the ram and the 2 artic fans
really?
Why would that be?
it looks to have enough space to me
oh wait
Ohhh wait
Mobo backplate
custom mounting backplate :)
I thought you meant gpu backplate xDDD
@unkempt ibex yet another question for you
can you try and see if you can easily get access to the "back" of the mainboard?
as in, can you pull of the back panel of the case?
i dont htink i can
okay :)
i might there is a couple screws
in a normal case, there is 2 screws holding on the back panel, when un-screwed, you can normally just slide off the back panel
keep in mind, this is in a normal case
i think i can then
all bets are off with a custom like the Obelisk
what would be the reason
cooler mounting is the reason
because most good coolers will require a replacement of what is known as the cpu backplate
oh
but again, its "just" a idle curiosity
there are options either way
i am just trying to avoid having you, have to take out the mainboard
hang on
k
what would you guys run, a 5700xt or 2070 xc ultra, i have both and need to get rid of the other
this is not looking all that good
@unkempt ibex this is not looking all that good
GSkill Trident for AMD RYZEN 2x16gb
I’m on amazon and there’s 2 different prices for what seems to be the same except a possible different model?
F4-3600C18D-32GTZN
Vs
F4-3600C18D-32GTZNC
Any differences?
@foggy hazel whats up?
it seems that the mainboard uses a custom width for the holes that you would use for cooler mounting @unkempt ibex
which limits the options
shoul di just get a new motherboard
ok
how long have you had the machine @unkempt ibex ?
7 months
One of the RAM says 16 latency.
While the other says (for AMD ryzen) but it’s 18 latency.
Idk which to get
@polar goblet check the manufacturers spec page
From further inspection in the details they’re both for AMD RYZEN series.
Just one is 18 latency and one is 16. Going to go with 16 latency for $10 more
naed what should i do
i am trying to figure that out @unkempt ibex
gotcha
the following things are the current situation (as i understand it at least):
There is currently a stock cpu cooler, that cannot easily be replaced, because HP are dum dums with their compatibility.
The case is designed in a way that it sucks in air from the bottom, while not having the feet to create the distance that would enable that.
Currently, the following measures are being considered:
Adding 2 fans, (there is no real downside to this, but with the case as it is currently, there is no real upside either)
the ram upgrade is a given
because that is just a plain silly build decision from HP
this is IF you keep the system ofc
what would u do if u had my computer
nothing that i can say here without getting Meep on my back
oh:(
sorry mate
it is just a really really effed design
what you should start with is this: Find something that can be used as feet for the case
ok
because that might actually make things cool down quite a bit
because as it is "right now", it is NOT getting the air it needs
ok
@sweet ember what Led strips are you using?
that is a "temp" fix that will be permament, because the case is designed the way it is
for now? wait
what about ram
test what feet does first
same for ram
if you end up doing a different system, no need to invest in something for this one
sorry mate
yeah i wanna do that
i think i might eventually sell my motherboard and get a nice one for a new rig
as i see it, the parts that are usable from your current system is this: CPU + GPU + Storage
because the mainboard is ... odd
the psu is ... odd
yeha
the case? .. i have not taken a serious look at it, but based on everything else, it is most likely really odd
remind me again what specific cpu you have?
ok i know youve been helping me a lot but can you help me find what parts i could use for my new rig
or send me a cpu-z picture of the first tab?
I have an i7 8700
just to make 100% could you post the pic of that tab?
CPU-Z:)
Thanks!:)
ok so i did some research and i could sell all my parts i dont need around 400 give or take
Case and power supply-100
Ram-65 ish
okay, so that gives us a starting point of 400-ish for Case+PSU + ram + mainboard?
i am amazed that someone is willing to pay 240 for that PITA mainboard
ikr found a couple that sold around that on ebay
Do u think i could get liquid cooling in this new rig?
okay, now even the RAM I was going to buy has gone out of stock.
did you check newegg,eebay,walmart,bestbuy?
@unkempt ibex if you really want to, yes. There isnt a need as such for it. But if you want and are willing to pay for it, sure.
my budget for those parts case, motherboard, ram and powersuppy +fans maybe 450
aye aye
well the fans come with the case
depends on the case :)
+a nice cpu cooler lmao
do you have any special wishes for the case?
liquid is nice but i have personally never invested into it... too pricey for me 😦
Good looking case not super fancy or expensive, i would like it to be see though if u know what i mean
At most, I might someday get an AIO to look fancy. But that is a day long in the future
so, a case with a window?
yes
any comment about size of things?
not not really doesnt really matter
(and just to make 100% certain, you are in the US right?)
Yes
@unkempt ibex your GPU is black/silver/red?
I'm sure it doesn't make a huge difference, if any at all, but currently running an MSI MPG Z390 AC Carbon motherboard(i think that's right, off the top of my head) with a corsair h100i 240mm AIO Liquid Cooling system with an EVGA 850W Gold Standard PSU. Currently upgrading from NVIDIA GeForce 1050ti, I ordered an MSI brand graphics card, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have mattered if I ordered gigabyte or evga or any other brand, as the only difference is the aftermarket coolers on them right?
the brand doesnt matter
each manufacturer (depending on card model) might have "only" put a custom cooler on the card. For other models, it might be a custom designed PCB
and neither really matters much in the grand scheme of things :)
oh sorry my gpu is black
My friend who helped me rebuild my pc from the ground up said that brand didn't matter but some might be quieter than others, so I was trying to get the best advice! Can't to plug in my new 2070 😄
can't wait*
1080p 144hz >:D
It'll be a huge step up from my 1050ti haha
