@cursive wharf Good to know haha
So yeah I wouldnt go 750w as it's kinda a waste of money. Spend that on an SSD instead
How did you figure the 9th gen doesn't work on this chipset?
IntelĀ® B250 Chipset quick reference guide including specifications, features, pricing, compatibility, design documentation, ordering codes, spec codes and more.
best you could do is 7th gen
god damn intel
which are overpriced, and usually getting an AMD CPU+mobo is the same price
then just a 7th gen CPU
Reason: Bad word usage
F
Also, I do have 3 240hz monitors, 1 is boxed up still because my current build couldnt handle it, also is there any specific cpu cooler that i should get, Ive been looking at some noctua fans but are AIO's better?
well, Noctua fans are good, but overrated and overpriced. AIOs noise normalized perf is about -5% to 1% better then a good air cooler, all in while being more expensive. So basically not worth it unless for looks
I think they mean Noctua air cooler.
still, same thing compared to other air coolers
I think they're all slightly overpriced right now
but for a while d15 was 90, same as drp4
I mean compared to Mugen 5
is it not like 5 degree difference in noise normalized perf tho?
basically nothing tbh, because 5 degrees means little to the standard consumer
cant find noise normalized
heres normalhttps://images.tweaktown.com/content/8/3/8320_33_scythe-mugen-5-rev-cpu-cooler-review.png
well you have to kinda guess it, but compare perf and then noise
pretty close in both regards
iirc
It is
all coolers are at some point
for non-OCed, it doesn't really matter above stock though
Also wonder about this
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/dZ3H99/scythe-ninja-5-430-cfm-cpu-cooler-scnj-5000
Worse than rev b somehow xD
I dont really understand how
but maybe fins are too large? and fans too far away from heat source? that is my only guess.
hey i have a question, will the stock cooler that comes with my ryzen 5 3600 be good enough?
They're not going to include a cooler for that CPU that would kill it. They'd have to pay for the warranty claim.
Itās fine if your not overclocking
can someone help me out with upgradeing my current build?
Most likely.
can i pm u? cause theres alot
lol k
so 1st is there a program to give u my current specs cause i kinda dont want to type it all out xD
i guess i can just type it
Piriform Speccy I guess?
k
Hm. @still roost gets mad if I paste any links.
pm me if need be
Should be able to copy/paste the summary in here. As an example..

well that kinda didnt come out right oh well
my budget is like $500 and trying to get it to a decent gaming rig
I'd check to make sure the fan was spinning or it wasn't chock full of dust.
lemme look
how would i clean it if it had dust in it cause i might have to wait till tomorrow the fam is sleeping
and i cant tell if theres dust in it when its spining
If not that, you'll want to make sure it's mounted properly. Probably get a pretty significant boost just getting temps under control.
I usually shove zip ties in all fans so they can't spin and use compressed air to blow dust out.
..with the PC off, of course.
yes lol
The airflow of your case can also affect temps
Switching cases dropped my temps by a significant margin
hey guys
just built my pc
and i dont have windows installed bc i dont have a keyboard
yea i was thinking about getting a gaming case cause everything is in a workstation case and was gonna try water cooling if need be
A decent air cooler would be loads better than the stock cooler.
Looks like the Ryzen 5 2600 should sit ~80c under load with stock cooler (depending on ambient temps).
"Gaming" case doesn't matter, just as long as it has airflow
yea i dont think this case does
Break out a holesaw and add some vents to mount some fans. šŖ š„ļø
Lol
That's what I did on my old old Socket 754 Sempron build.
lol
Imma be getting this tomorrow. Cant wait
@misty spindle nice build, I guess you are using an APU
^ Yeah, lookin' clean.
My case says it can fit a rad, it can't, unless it was a slim with slim fans
Critical, I'd say figuring out how to keep your CPU cool should be priority #1. As for upgrades, your RX 580 should be pretty decent but if you're getting poor FPS in games, you could just swap out the GPU for something new. I'd think that CPU would be fine for a while.
Depends on which games you're trying to run (on which monitor and at what settings), but that CPU is probably throttling down due to heat which I'm guessing is killing performance.
Could be a free performance upgrade just getting it cooled down.
tnx for the input techkyle I thought about doing that for longrun ryoku
Could always go for the box-fan mod. š¤·āāļø
Pull the side panel off and set a box-fan next to it.
Dang. Is that glass or just acrylic?
It's glass
is glass the best?
Glass is literally for looks
I've screwed motherboards onto pieces of scrap board before. Best temps ever.
Just need airflow. The rest is eye candy.
k i might go with that since i dont foresee my pc being knocked over in the near future
yea i will prioritize cooling first
Yours might be fine. It could be an issue with the way the CPU cooler is mounted. Might check to see if your temperatures go down with the side panel off.
The main negative about that case is it's pretty small for an ATX, it was really annoying to build in
i have the side panel off
If the side is off and temps are still high then you might wanna remount the cooler like he said
Can you feel heat coming off the cooler? I'd be careful not to touch it since it could potentially be burn-your-hand hot.
If the cooler is pretty cool, then heat isn't getting from your processor to the cooler.
k and yes it feels warm
I used expensive thermal paste that doesn't cure
Even generic goo should keep it somewhat cool.

Hm. I'd say remount the cooler and go from there.
k
Revisit the need for upgrading after that.
k
Should be a pretty rockin' little rig still.
i mean i am running an ark server while playing ark xD idk if that would do it or not
Annoyingly the best stuff for cleaning thermal paste can't be bought anywhere right now
Rubbing alcohol on a towel? Might just have it laying around.
That CPU should't be able to get that hot no matter what you throw at it.
..unless you're overclocked on the stock cooler.
no i dont think i am
Yea gaming generally doesnt even put a CPU under full load
oh ok
If you were doing Folding @ Home then I could see it Maybe getting in the 90s
Over 100c is pure bad
k im going to turn my pc off let it cool down for a few then re mount it
and see if that fixes it
Yeah, definitely don't want to try to reuse.
erm lemme look i should some where
is it just me or does everyone think that fans shouod be blowing air at 30mph
XD
Yo bros any one here use a EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 XC Ultra Black Gaming, 06G-P4-2163-KR, 6GB GDDR6, Dual HDB Fans? Looking to upgrade from a 1060 to that bad boy.
I'd say
Sweetness yea the 1060 i bought from CL is louder then heck.
Could ya guys rate my build if ya dont mind? Rysen 5 3600 CPU, 32gb ddr4 3200mhz, GeForce 2060 XC GPU, 1tb ssd, 6tbhdd, mother msi B450 Gaming Plus Max, two CORSAIR AF140 LED Low Noise Cooling Fan and a standard 40mm corsair case fan. Anything you would reccomaned changing? This includes parts just ordered.
i recommend changing the case from nothing to something
or looks like u had one already
dumme
My bad lol its a corsair 175r
Seems pretty decent to me.
I was looking at the 2060 or 2070 and ended up with a 5700 XT just because it was on sale and it would be nice to occasionally use adaptive sync over HDMI. Either or is fine.
Power supply? Shouldn't need much, just curious.

Build Upgrade: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4mcCK4
Thoughts? In regards to storage, I'll probably have M.2 soon enough.
- What are you going to be using this pc for
- I wouldnāt buy that motherboard the Asus tuf b450 pro gaming is better
Mostly using it for gaming on a whole array of titles. I'm planning to start streaming as well in the near future and probably editing eventually.
Then overall itās a fine upgrade minus the mobo
Can anyone recommend a good cheap Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapter card so I can get wireless connectivity on my PC
in my build iām trying to get the parts for right now, i already ordered the asus tuf b450 pro gaming atx am4 mobo and i was gonna use CL18 trident z rgb 2x8gb kit but someone mentioned yesterday that it wouldnāt be easy to run with CL18 memory on ryzen 3000 so should i switch it out for a CL16 kit of the same memory?
cl16 is better
cl18 would technically work but most people would only recommend to go with cl16 or better today
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/gTBF3t any thoughts?
if youāre spending that much money at least get that kit in cl16
is 16-19-19-39 good or should i do 16-18-18-38
16-18-18-38 is optimal but 16-19-19-39 is basically just as good
This was my take on it
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/j662YH
Any suggestions on a $900 below pc for my friend? Not prebuilt
This comes pretty close to 900 USD
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BHLpRk
It looks pretty good, thank you for that
can someone help me with my fps
@surreal gyro wdym?
that is worse actually
That is at 3200mhz, instead of the 3600mhz on the Ripjaw Vs
16-18-18-38 has barely any difference than the 16-19-19-39 on the corsair ram, and 3600mhz is quite a bit better than 3200mhz.
@digital pecan I'd say keep the ripjaw Vs
They're the cheapest 3600mhz cl16 kits that I know of
aye, at least for the US market
Yea, true. I assume it was the US market because I said USD and there was no clarifications made.
aye aye :) just commented with the US part for the lurkers :)
@stoic island i didn't catch that it was faster whoops
fair
Build quality wise corsair vengence and g.skill ripjaw are about the same, so its just gonna be specs vs specs
i should get all the parts on monday
fair enough
i should get the amazon ones on sat and then newegg on mon
i just need to save some money up to get a new case
i have one now buts it not good, but i will work temporarily
the one i have now
i have no idea
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3878866 its a little diffrent than this with out the middle bar
cad, aud, or usd
usd
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NBJrx6 i found this but wondering if it is any good
oops wrong list lol
lol
is a 1660ti better than a super
ok
He said 800 max so it was either 500gb ssd or 2tb hdd
Would you rather have ssd or hdd
I have a question but itās about a laptop build is anyone able to help?
I can fit in a ssd with only 5$ over budget
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QrZW6R
Oh cool the matx tuf is finally back in stock
yea
he wants a ssd and a hdd
Made it <800$
SSD and HDD
That still has a 1660s and 3600
better mobo
same perf ram
cheaper better airflow case
Nice
Better PSU, and 450w is good enough for this build
Is a Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop with an addition of two ram sticks of 16gb of ram added and 1tb of storage good for gaming like not new gen but like CSGO/OVERWATCH/DAYZ
Specs?
Iām on a budget and Iāll find it
What is your budget
And do you necessarily need a laptop
Iām not able to buy a huge gaming pc so I was going for laptop and my budget is somewhere near 400-600$
damn thats a small budget
and yeah I was looking to be portable
small budget makes itx builds really hard too
Acer Aspire 5 only has iGPU...
lemme see if theres any good <600$ lapptops
Okay thank you
so a what do you guys think of a 3600x instead of a 3600
I watched a video on the Aspire 5 2018 with an extra ram stick and it ran games pretty well but if I were to get that and get in a range of 16-32gbs would I be good for casual gaming and performance ?
@stoic island 3600x or 3600
3600x and 3600 is not a big difference
3600
ok
And you can manual oc
is the MSI B450 Tomahawk atx AM4 any good
does that involve using a different cpu?
Not with MSI boards iirc
ok
Because bios flasback
so i can use a 3600 i buy on that mobo to update it
you can just flash it with a usb without a cpu or anything
You should get a different motherboard
The Asus b450m tuf pro is a better mobo
3rd gen ready too, cheaper than tomahawk max.
Heres my list again
is the rox strix b450 good?
I would just suggest the tuf b450m pro
ok
@thorny bronze I have a 3600x and wish I got the 3600 and put the extra $30 into something else. I've been helping 2 of my boys build their setups and both went 3600 since the performance is barely noticeable
are the ryzen 9's even worth it for gaming compared to the 7's?
probs not
Gaming? Not at all
You don't need more cores for gaming.
But for like video editing, yes, you can utilize those cores.
yeah
games are like 99% single-core
so some processors are just core-count upgrades, some are core performance
true
First time pc builder. My motherboard says "Supports CPU up to 65 watts." When shopping for CPU. Do i use the TDP specification to stay within my motherboard specification?
3600 or 3600X
@shell plover Might need specifics of the situation.
Im trying to put a 3600x on a ASROCk A320M-HDV MOBO
You already own either of those things?
Yes the MOBO
I'd suggest a 3600 not a 3600x
3600x is needlessly more expensive than the 3600.
and Yes, you can do that, there was a video done about it a while back. Not optimal at all, but it does work.
A320 mobos are pretty out of date but
they work
@stoic island Whats a good cost effective MOBO option for me?
Thinking of upgrading my gpu for fortnite, Nvidia G100 a good choice?
Asus tuf b450 pro. That exact motherboard I can link if you give me a second.
wtf is a g100
lemme see
This thing will not cut it for a good gpu
@leaden kayak are you on laptop or desktop
its a 20 inch 09 imac
I don't even think you can upgrade on that.. but idk
please i need help
apple products are weird
cant upgrade the GPU in an imac
Yea... Apple products are really bad for upgrading and stuff
ram
You wont be able to play fancy games on an imac they are not built for that
But i guess you are trolling so it doesn't matter
i have only one intake fan and one exhaust fan in my case, am i gonna need another intake?
if you want to
Should I get a Ripjaw 3600 16GB or a cheaper option?
Does anyone suggest any videos to help me upgrade my cpu and mobo?
I know search YouTube, but Iād prefer something that someone has confidence in
Yes. Iāve already had the pc. Iām upgrading those parts
Might have to add ram but Iām not to worried about that. More concerned on doing the mobo and cpu myself.
@sleek valley read the manual
not a joke
take your time, read the manual
and then take it step by step
I understand that part. But I understand that like one wrong move and I can fry my pc. And I can read all day, but visual helps too
Thatās kind of the vibe Iāve been getting from reading up on it
you have to be majestic levels of unlucky to damage anything
Okay. I know about the whole static part etc. just nervous I guess haha.
as i said, take your time
Yea. Okay.
it might seem "simple"
Why canāt I post a link
but there really isnt any replacement for taking your time and reading the manual and checking things an extra time :)
Iām an electrican and I work with PLC plates. But doing this upgrade scares me more than anything haha
Yea true
Okay, do you mind if I DM you and ask you a couple questions? I donāt want to blow up this channel
but i sure as heck think about things if i am thinking about touching the breaker box in the basement
there are no stupid questions, only silly answers :)
so dont worry about blowing up the channel
but IF you feel better about asking in a dm, by all means, please do :)
did you fall asleep @sleek valley ?
@toxic wind okay deal. Tho depends on cooler. A better cooled 2060S for a bit more may be better appreciated
Well i opted to upgrade my mobo to something with the B365 chipset
In order to accomodate the I5 9400
Ah man. It looks like the RGB fans I wanted are now discontinued.
Looking for a fair priced 2070 super
reference
it looks the best imo
for the price anyways
also should i wait until september to get ryzen 4000
i need a wifi card what is a good one for gaming
there isn't really a specific card that is good for gaming, just good wifi cards
Havnt checked prices in a while
i only have 75$ dollars š¦
What's your internet speed?
That one is kinda overkill so don't sweat it lol
ok and i dont know what my internet speed is i would have to ask my dad and he is doing work or something
you can run a speed test
how do i do that
it tests upload and download speeds as well as ping
57.72 download and 7.80 upload but in my area there has been some problems with internet becuase of corona
Still seems kinda expensive tho right?
i dont know anything about wifi cards so idk
ok ill order that one i already have all my parts for my build so i started it last night so hopefully by the time i get this i can install it and go
i did the speed test again and this time i got 68.91 download and 7.66 upload is that a good score
Its decent
ok
Can anyone recommend a good cheap Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapter card so I can get wireless connectivity on my PC
Look up 5 messages
I went to install a rx 5700 in my system which is a ryzen 5 2600 b350m bazooka 16 gb trident z 3200 speed and a off brand 500 watt psu and nothing would turn on or light up
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or anything would help
Also I took it out turned it on and the rgb would light up and the cpu fan would spin but it wouldnāt post and I tried it with the old gpu and same thing happened as the 5700
I want to upgrade my current rig. I want to replace my outdated motherboard and graphics card with a more current model but need it to support Vista or Windows XP
riot bought hypixel?
ye
i don't understand it
is there any good wifi adapters?
i have this one
it boosted my speeds from 30mbps to 200+
best upgrade ive ever added to my PC
i just dont wanna run a whole ethernet cable from my living room to my bedroom
You upgrading your build or haven't built it yet
Because you could get a Mobo with integrated wifi
So you already have mb?
yes
i might snag that. @lime forge
i really need to get a referral code haha
anyways
before you buy it
what is your internet plan rated for?
for example, our plan is 600mbps down
i got a gigabit card because i wanna be future proof
also that card has good antennas
but you could save a buck getting a cheaper card if you dont need gigabit
but i recommend it so your connection isnt throttled
its not much but Im supposed to get 200mbps download. but i download some games and i get 90max. sometimes 120-130 on a good day
thats good
i could get that card & have no problems?
wifi card reviews are really confusing
with any model
there're half praising it
and the other half just bash it
Is there a board that supports all generations of ryzen without a bios update??
x570
Thx
Trying to build a deskPC. Any help? I canāt find a good desk with glass top.
@mortal rampart there are a number of b450 boards that got built with support from the start.
so, unless you specifically need the other features that x570 brings, there should not logically be a reason to spend a bunch more for boards with that chipset.
hello. am trying to upgrade my pc but am not sure what to upgrade first, could someone help me with this
if you give a bit more details about what you have, then we can try @autumn spade
Intel Core i7-7700K , Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti, Samsung 850 Evo 500GB , Asrock Z270 Extreme4, Seagate IronWolf 4TB (2016), DDR4 8GBytes@foggy hazel
just to make certain, your OS is on the ssd right?
as for what to upgrade first, i would say GPU
and then it just becomes a question of budget
and psu
depending on what GPU you go for, your PSU (powersupply) might also need an upgrade
i was thinking on
PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card
that is a valid option
i want something i don't have to upgrade again in at least 3 to 5 years if possible
what is a good psu you would recomend
the only one that can decide that is you
because what you deem/find acceptable performance is entirely decided by you :)
phanteks AMP is a good choice
but, depending on what you have currently, you might be just fine
how would i check what psu i have
if you dont know from memory, open your case and look at the side of the psu :)
it will work
i got an asus tuf b450 pro gaming
i know @latent storm :)
i remember you telling me a while so that the specifics matter, and i matched the part numbers and it was a cl18 kit but i changed it to the cl16 kit so i just wanted to make sure
thank you
Seasonic X series 80 Plus Gold
how long have you had that PSU @autumn spade ?
@latent storm you are very welcome :)
for a while is the oldest component i own
ok
however, depending on how long you have had that psu, you are way past the normal warranty on it
the x series got released back in 2009
and it has a 7 year warranty
oh lol so i do need a new one
keep in mind, nothing says that it is un-safe to run a psu way past its warranty
in general, i personally and at work, prefer not doing so
it as work real good all this time so i don't complain but since am thinking on upgrading
i will get a new one
i would recommend that :)
recommendation and what for RAM
I have one of those x series golds too, the fan curve got annoying after a while, replaced fan, cut pwm wire, still works fine.
Bought it Jan 2011.
as i mentioned earlier, phanteks AMP (which is a seasonic unit, but for less money)
i have never had a problem with mine still work as the first day
aye, and as i said, the intention was not to scare you
or to force you to buy a new psu
out of stock
it was meant as information that you might not be aware of
i know thank for giving me the info i been looking to upgrade my pc component for a while now
i just uwsuly spend the money in something else
okay found one in amazon
for what price?
newegg is out of stock
139.99
is saying out of stock
gah!
lol i have to spend a bit more or wait
or get another psu
or yeah get another
let me just yell at the local psu nut
@cursive wharf you awake?
because i know my seasonics etc, but i really dont know much beyond that in regards to psu's
because they compete very well in the stuff i normally work with
also, EU vs US
hmmm i just know the basic and read a lot and check reviews
how about the GPU PowerColor RED DEVIL Radeon RX 5700 XT DirectX 12 AXRX 5700 XT 8GBD6-3DHE/OC 8GB 256-Bit GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 CrossFireX Support ATX Video Card
that or is there something better in about the same price range
400 to 600
that is a fair range
yeah i told myself i had to have about that much to get something good
its a bit of a weird mix really
is it i feel they are all expensive
the 2070 super at around the 500usd mark is probably what you should aim at
okay and how it that better?
long or short answer?
GPU 2019 benchmarks: Compare two products side-by-side or see a cascading list of product ratings along with our annotations.
thats the basis for it
also what brand of the 2070
nvidia makes the chip
the reason i even recommend that card is your budget
i you had said 300-500 the 5700xt would have been the first choice
oh i see
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition - 8GB GDDR6 1770 MHz RAM - 2560 Cores - Ray Tracing - DirectX 12 - DP/HDMI/DVI-DL - VR Ready
also, depending on how much value you put into the nvidia features, that has some worth too
that card?
thats the "standard" version
any of them can work, it doesnt matter much
by "standard" i mean, its the reference model
(which is not a bad thing)
Should i use DP or HDMI?
EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P4-3277-KR, 8GB GDDR6, iCX2 Technology, RGB LED, Metal Backplate this one is on my price range
the founders edition "should" be 500 usd
669
is what is for in newegg
then we grab it somewhere else
good idea lol
I believe this is one of the cheaper 3rd party 2070supers
https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2070-super-08g-p4-3071-kr/p/N82E16814487456
Sometimes the gigabyte windforce has good prices too
I like EVGA now for some reason, but it's at the same price iirc
idc for price as much as preformance so if it is a bit more expensive i just save mor emoney
Well.
I'm upgrading my system. Just waiting for the mobo.
My current Mobo, GPU, and CPU, Ram are as follows Msi B250M Gaming Pro, Gt 710 V2 (2gb GDDR5), Pentium G4400, 8gb GDDR4 (GEIL EVO POTENZA 2x4gb)
And then the CPU, Mobo, and GPU are being swapped.
New specs will be I5 9400, ASROCK Pro4 B365, Geforce GTX 1650 (4gb GDDR5)
I'm looking forward to the large upgrade š
Bruh going blue? Donāt go red
I'm looking to build a new PC, and I'm going AMD. Haven't decided on 3600x or 3700x yet, but I have been doing a bunch of YouTube watching, reddit reading, and general internet searching. What is the point of going with an X570 motherboard over a good B450? From what I have read, unless you are going to use SLI or PCIe 4.0 for storage it's kind of pointless. GPUs can't even use all the bandwith of PCIe 3.0?? Does anyone have a good reason to spend more money on the X570 mobo that I haven't been able to find?
Is the "Seagate BarraCuda 510 M.2 2280 1TB PCIe G3 x4, NVMe 1.3 3D TLC Internal Solid State Drive" a good SSD?
Hey what's better, Radeon Rx 570 or a 1060 something
rx570 is a fantastic card for 1080p gaming on budget
they often go used for about $100
(the 8gb variant)
I have the 4
A friend says they have a 1060 they are not using
Was worried about bottle necking from the 1600 AF cpu
1600af wont bottleneck anything imo
If I get a okay here, I guess the build is good https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7k9QgJ
someone okay this
ok
SSD isn't great, but has dram so good enough I guess
could go for 3600mhz cl16 kit but if you need to save a buck, 3200mhz works.
h
@autumn spade @foggy hazel currently best option for 650w would be Enermax Revolution DF. Basically same price as AMP but a bit better in quality. Last I checked was in stock
thank you @cursive wharf
Hello everyone! Looking for a bit of guidance here!
Going to build a new workstation that Iāll also use for gaming, editing videos, and mining every so often when Iām away from home.
I have $1500-$2000 to spend and already have a NVIDIA 1070 for my gpu.
I was looking at the AMD 3900x and 3950x for a cpu, is the 3950x really worth the extra $300?
The Enermax power supply you just recommended is out of stock on Newegg.
@polar goblet that is up to you to decide, it is 12 vs 16 cores
Benefits of those extra 4 cores?
Just better processing, faster?
"ability" to do more at the same time
is the core of it
the question of "does that make a difference for you" ... only you can decide
Alrighty šš¼
So I guess I should just build out each shopping list for both cpus and see whatās in my budget.
aye
What motherboard should I go with?
from a "only" gaming pov, the 3950x doesnt make a heck of a lot of sense
but from a mixed workload (and especially video/render related stuff) it makes a LOT of sense
so again, comes back to what you value and how well you understand your own workload
Yeah. Especially if I want to edit videos and then be doing other things on IE
re: what mainboard: the build is going to be "as is" for a number of years right?
Yes. Trying to build something thatāll work for 4-5 years at least
then go with a x570 chipset board
I use the MSI MPG x570 gaming edge wifi
around the 200-ish USD mark
the price is a little hiogh but it will lasdt a while
That MSI board is the same one I'm planning to get
the tuf is a pretty decent board if you dont wanna spend a lot
MSI X570 gaming edge WiFi. 3.2 GEN 2 $200
I'm leery of going too cheap on things, but I'm also not going to buy a top of the line board.
its only when you hit the 250+ mark that things go a bit bonkers
didnt msi have some wonky things with vrms or is that fixed
some people complained about MSI on the launch stuff @deep skiff, that might be what you are remembering?
yea
all i know about msi is the unify helped fix the issue, idk anything else they did so they probably fixed it
Here's a basis:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zKvF3t, the Mobo's pretty cheap but high quality, and the PSU is almost industrial quality.
Looks like my two best options are the
ASUS TUF 570 $190
MSI MPG 570 $200
water is overrated for a build like that
pretty expensive
yeah if u want to add more later
Naed, you think it's good to recommend the arctic freezer 2 AIO?
GN reviewed it to be very good, better than most AIOs, and is at ~95$
considering i generally dont like AIO's, i think i am the wrong person to ask about that @stoic island :)
This is what I've mostly settled on for a build (though I'm going to have to wait on the power supply and graphics card coming back into stock):
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wznnCL
a lot of rgb in that build, that increases the price too
The point is because you're usually against AIOs, but I wonder if that could replace an air cooler.
re: aio: it has its place, i personally dont believe it is in a consumer build
Alright
... I know. But I wanted some RGB.
@cold sorrel i was talking about the other build urs is fine
Okay so the MSI x570 motherboard should be fine? No problems?
@stoic island for me, it comes down to: if there is absolutely nothing else to upgrade, i might think about it in a consumer build.
ive heard decent things about the aio before gn tested it, doesnt look like it has any major issues
@polar goblet basically yes
And I plan to acquire a pack of RGB fans on Amazon, even if the ones I originally wanted got discontinued
The price seems pretty good, thats why I think it might be better than other AIOs.
Anyways lemme see if I can make a good build without gpu at 1500$.
Okay power supply. I should only need 750w right?
105w cpu
100-200w on gpu
re: aio (again): also, keep in mind, i speak as someone that does a lot of builds, and services a LOT of builds, so convenience also counts for a LOT on my end :)
@polar goblet technically you can do just fine with a 550
@foggy hazel NO not in this situation
You can do fine with 550w.
Hei might come in here with the calculations, but you can do fine with 550w.
i want a 650 power supply just as futureproofing. I want this to be a system I can swap parts on and keep running for years.
@little osprey "NO not in this situation" <- do elaborate
thats like saying a 550 will still be a 550 in 5 year, complete melarky
Well lets look back 5 years shall we?
i mean you can run a 3950x and 2080 ti on a 450w psu rn
@polar goblet and that is a fair take, just dont go running for the hills with something like a 1k one
Anyways, I think the thing with MSI x570 is some of the boards' VRMs might be below par, below even some of their b450 boards
PSU's deteriorate that's what I'm referencing
a good one shouldnt deteriorate that fast
@little osprey so, you dismiss experience with a situation that is based on buying bargin bin parts?
When did all the evga psu go out of stock lmao
Crypto brand, how much storage do you think you'll want/need?
Might as well go something like 1TB plus?
For example, do you want like a 1tb NVME ssd plus 4tb hdd? or do you only need like 500gb ssd plus 2tb hdd?
1 tb m.2 + sata disk for scratch + hdd for storage is the sane option
I think last I was looking at was the Samsung 860 who 1TB SSD
well, heres my take on it
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gsyB9G
idk what else to upgrade
as scratch disk as mentioned earlier
just about anything
its intended purpose is to get trashed as the scratch
I don't quite know what you mean by that..?
scratch disk = term/name for the disk you "work/store" temporary files on when doing editing
Ah.
I'm still sad at the fans I liked so much being discontinued. I really wish I had gone ahead and bought them
what about uphere fans
@stoic island
Thanks for that list šš¼
Whatās the difference between the 570 motherboard and this one?
Which other x570 motherboard?
Ah I canāt post the link or pic
Can you give the name?
MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI Gaming Motherboard AMD AM4 SATA 6Gb/s M.2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 HDMI ATX
That one is a fair bit worse
Unify is a tier S- board, that board is a tier D board.
going off this tier list.
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1137619-motherboard-tier-list-v2-currently-amd-only/
Credit to:@VegetableStu @GoldenLag @LukeSavenije The following list is based on facts, ranked on power delivery and known problems. The list will include boards that support CPU overclocking available at retail from different brands. Currently only AMD boards are done because ...
I mean, this might possibly be the replacement, it's six fans to the other page's five:
https://www.amazon.com/EZDIY-FAB-Moonlight-Motherboard-Computer-Multiple/dp/B07XDYKC91/ref=pd_ybh_a_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KVVF0EQKAV6Q8MBBC7VN
should i actually be worried about any static while building my PC?
or is that mostly BS
u should be careful
do i need to buy one of those little static bracelet things?
ive read that alot of them dont even work
@deep skiff stock 3950x+2080Ti on 550w, not 450w. Idk if you went typo or mistaken, so just pointing that out
I have an anti-static wrist strap, but I bought that and my repair kit for my PC repair class.
@cursive wharf i was talking with uv, not stock my bad
I mean, technically average max would work on 450w stock. 2080Ti actual peak is like 375w but on a heavy workload it is usually like 280w
yeah true but it wouldnt really be the best situation
Now, if I could just remember where I put that stupid kit
Okay Iām back.
So whatās the difference in tiers for those motherboards? Does that mean performance?
To an extent yes
The higher the better(obviously) but you don't need a tier a or s for most use cases
I have a tier D according to that list
Okay.
Letās talk ram.
Whoās running 32, whoās running 64?
32 is overkill for 99% of personal use cases
unless you are running multiple VMs or doing super heavy workloads 64 is pretty much never needed unless you just want to throw money at it to say you have it
a 4x8 setup is probably the way to go if you want overkill, but still reasonable ram
I'd say 32gb is overkill now, but gives you quite a bit of wiggle room for future proofing
Ryzen has stock cooler
Okay so not technically needed, just added for extra cooling?
even under load the stock coolers on the Ryzens generally do the job, as long as you aren't over clocking
my 3700X stays in the mid 80's while doing folding at home, and that's not even with an aggressive fan curve
@eager chasm i dont as such disagree, however, something to keep in mind, is that going with 4 * 8 leaves you up a creek if you want to upgrade ram later
but for what use would you ever need to?
perhaps if you decide that your workload could benefit from it
as in, lets say you currently think 32 gigs is enough, so you go with your suggestion of 4 * 8
now, in a year or more, you decide that you want to actually make that 3900x do something useful and notice that you really really could use some more ram
your suggestion leaves you with a set of ram that you wont be using
which imo could be avoided easily by going 2*16 now
Yeah Iām gonna go with 2 16gb. So I can move to 64 if I want to later
and before someone brings up "but 2 * 16 costs more than 4 * 8"
true
you know what costs even more?
not really actually
having a 4 * 8 set that sits in a drawer in a year
2*16 kits are quite cheap last I checked
Ya I actually found 4 *8 kits to cost more
I'm just going with 2 8 GB sticks for right now
@buoyant flame those are the 4 * 8 "kits"
Yes
most people do 2 * 2* 8
Oh gotchu
2 * 16 is usually cheaper $/gb then 2 * 8
as things were last i looked, i would agree Hei
4 Dimms has a minor benefit to performance as opposed to 2 dimms... forgot which tech youtuber tested it lol
since when?
Depends if it's two dual rank dimms vs 2 single rank dimms.
also true Forks
if just about everything is the same spec wise, the 2 * 16gb would be easier to OC then 4 * 8gb because less silicon lottery
however, we are then firmly into the "i must have more points in X benchmark" territory
true lol
It's just as hard for the memory controller to drive two dual rank dimms of 16GB each as it is to run four single rank 8GB dimms.
It would be a bit easier to OC 2 x 16Gb vs 4x8GB on a two dimm board e.g. z390 dark, z390 XI apex etc, vs something like a z390 XI hero with 4 slots.
should i uhh buy my cpu or all my storage from this paycheck
Gskill vs Corsair memory.
Anything matter other than almost double the price? Lol
But putting 2x16GB dual rank dimms in a T topology, 4 slot board like any asus z390 - that's not good for OCing
@polar goblet depends on model
some models from either brand suck and some are good
I yeeted part of the US stimulus at tech... only about $100 XD
Gskill trident z NEO (for amd ryzen) 2 x 16gb ddr4 3600
^ good stuff
Especially since a ton of x570 boards, at least from asus and Gigabyte run a daisy chain layout - best* to use 2 of the 4 dimms.
Not really a huge issue unless you're really into tweaking memory.
I greatly prefer g skill stuff over corsair, corsair likes to play musical chairs with what chips they use within the same models of memory sticks.
Also lifetime warranty on g-skill.
This build good?
note: I already bought the gtx 1650, dont change it. plan to get a better on later
final okay before comfirmation
For that price, you could probably get a 1TB nvme drive.
at firsy, I thought of WD 3D NAND or crucial p1, but people voted it out
@celest horizon
Maybe they were thinking of the WD Blue
Not really. But if you're spending ~$115 - don't you want the best you can get for $115?
I really want to cut costs as much as possible
I recommend reading through the comments thread on that reddit link, look around that subreddit to see what people think of various drives' value.
oh Im buying this after the quarantine too so I don't know will there be another good dell
deal
That subreddit would be a good place to look when you need one.
is that team t-force good?
Do they still sell the:
Corsair Icue 220t rgb black?
Apparently $100 on corsiar website but out of stock, $228 on new egg
Crypto, I'm looking at the 465 for 150 on Amazon
How much is the 280x?
$164
That 465 is nice to šš¼
But I like the cleaner look on the 280x
Question about psus.
Looking at evga.
Whatās the difference on these G3, G5, GA...
Oh good but my husband said no need oh well
We going Use liquid bottle and tube to drain
@foggy hazel Looks like the freezing is back, but now its like 4 hours aafter its been running and the event log is shows - Kernal power 41 + Event ID: 28 Error setting traits on Provider {8444a4fb-d8d3-4f38-84f8-89960a1ef12f}. Error: 0xC0000001 = Hardware freezing no dumplog just a hard stop
im starting to assume the PSU is dying but not sure how to test it b4 investing into a new one
Interestingg
Goodmorning
I need coffee
Anyhow...I am building a computer and the size case is the issue
A midtown at case would be fine normally but I am adding a dedicated graphics card and therefore cooling is an issue so I am wondering if a midsize tower will be too cramped and therefore a bit too warm.
Any feedback is appreciated
Hello
yeah
ok
@covert torrent A midtower case is more then enough for most builds. Don't go for NZXT cases, NZXT cases usually have bad airflow.
whats the difference between a 2070 and a 2070 ultra?
@proper ore ultra is just a marketing term.
2070 Super is actually a different, better card then the 2070.
thanks!
@sly python back to the drawing board it is then
@lyric yarrow.....and have you personal experience in this way?
@proper ore on the nvidia side, (in the selection of current chips) neutral, TI and Super are the only consumer chip variants on the desktop
neutral = just a number
@stoic island.....as evidenced by?
@covert torrent what case and what graphicscard?
ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER DirectX 12 ROG-STRIX-RTX2070S-8G-GAMING 8GB 256-Bit GDDR6 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
And....Corsair Carbide Series 275R CC-9011132-WW Black Steel / Plastic / Tempered Glass ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case
But I'm open to suggestions as things go out of stock quickly
@covert torrent your earlier stated worry about cooling, i dont see the problem with those parts
@covert torrent i am curious about where you got the idea that it would be limiting?
because the term/word/concept "midtower" does not really mean much
(unless we talking vertical mount maybe?)
(I also assume midtower as ATX)
there are plenty of "midtower" cases that are horrible for airflow
Comments about "cramped" quarters in some midtower cases
there are also plenty that are fantastic
"cramped" <- if used in the context of a review/comment about the interior of something like the 275R.... says a lot more about the amount of hardware you are trying to force into the case
(you can only fit so many elephants in a car)
š
does that cover all your questions @covert torrent ?
Hi, if someone wouldn't mind, what's a good build that absolutely must have support for vulkan api, at least 8 gigs of RAM, 1tb hdd, air cooled. Capable of running Skyrim and eso with tons of add-ons/mods no monitor/keyboard/mouse is needed looking for a graphic card that's at least 3 inputs. Vga dvi and HDMI is fine, or all HDMI or 1 HDMI and 2 dvi. Don't need rgb, do not wanter cooled. I want a basic case.. black... Simple.... Plain
@meager relic budget?
you got any hardware at all right now?
1 monitor with HDMI input, I can get keyboard/ mouse later
ok so i have a 900 to possibly 1000 dollar budget. I would like to be able to game and stream on this pc and would like to have a dual monitor setup ( im not sure if having 2 monitors even effects the gpus performance) i would like to have at least a 2060 gpu if possible but whatever you think would be best. Just dm me or tag me if you have a list or some ideas on what i should buy and what i should wait to get (with this whole pandemic thing going on) Thanks to anybody who wants to help
Lol right.... Cause the world is burning right now
check out Linus' recent live stream build, he says $800 but its closer to ur budget in reality
ima make a part list
@meager relic your audio gear is usb or mini-jack based?
that is your call
Which is cheaper or are they both the same?
mini-jack based can go way higher
but it can also go way lower
but for the context of my question, the lower stuff doesnt matter
another question: Do you need/want wifi ?
Yeah, I'm not taking risk it chances, usb has never given me problems especially as I plan on using Linux a lot, besides win10.. hence why I need vulkan api.
I need WiFi card
huh, I actually come really close to fitting a 2070 super in 1000$.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cZHMDx
you could just go CX @stoic island
and as always, hdd is a simple upgrade later on
cx pretty expensive rn tho...
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tKdVHB
if ya got an old laptop u could use that as a wifi card XD
mobo wifi is an option too
Never never never will I use a laptop
@meager relic https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ksxJPn
Laptops break on me
that is a board with wifi @meager relic
was joking that you could use teh wifi card on an old laptop and pass the internet via ethernet to a pc
@rocky thistle right now, you can nearly get 2070 super with 1000$. if price on say the PSU goes down, it'll be 1000$.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tKdVHB
Ty naed, does this work with vulkan api?
@stoic island as for CX being expensive, that is "just" because we are selecting the 650w vs the 550 we used to select
@meager relic yes
Thank you
Hey guys If you remember about a week ago, i asked about a upgrade for a ryzen 3 CPU, and i went with what was recommended and went with ryzen 5 1600. OS- Windows 10 Pro 64Bit with License Key
Motherboard- GigaByte B450 Aorus M MicroAtx
CPU- Ryzen 3 2200G 4Core 4Thread 3.5Ghz
CPU Cooler- AMD Wraith Spire Cooler
Memory- Patriot 8gB (2x4gB) Viper DDR4 3200
SSD- Silicon Power 512GB NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 SSD
HDD- Seagate ST1000LM024 1tB Sata III HDD
Video- MSI RX 580 ARMOR OC 8gB PCIe (Dedicated)
Power Supply- Cooler Master Elite V3 500W ATX
Case- MasterBox Lite 3.1 Micro ATX
Case Fans- 2x 120mm Fans Front
Case Fans- 1x 120mm Fans Rear
Internet- 1gB Wired Ethernet
Internet- Netgear WNDA3100v3 N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter
@meager relic something to keep in mind, yes, the storage is "only" 512gig, but it is fast storage and as mentioned earlier, adding something like a 2tb hdd is a 3-4 minute job, and will cost you 55ish usd :)
Use pcpartpicker?
thermaltake has a good 500w for like $50 on amazon
this is my complete PC specs. i was wondering what direction you guys would recommend for a GPU.
@stoic island aye, that is indeed out of stock :)
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FdRFf7/corsair-cx-2017-550w-80-bronze-certified-atx-power-supply-cp-9020121-na <- here is the original link
keep in mind the ryzen 3 cpu has been Replaced with the ryzen 5 1600 š
@grand spindle depends entirely on your budget
leah what r u comfy spending on the budget
out of stock sadly
anywhere from 250-400$ roughly?
2060 or 2070
that is 2060-2060super territory
2070 too
that with be compatiable with my motherboard and everything
im a bit of a noob
plug and play
availability wont @stoic island :)
Wait, I thought it's like buying now?
remember assumptions :)
alr
but this was my thought.
https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-2070-gv-n2070wf2-8gd/p/N82E16814932160
out of stock
yea
thats why "was"
(grumble grumble, buyer reviews.... grumble grumble)
gpu prices are kinda wierd, but there are more options than ever to really fit as much performance into a budget
you guys are awesome lol
yes sir
yeah, that psu is a problem
ive got an i7 3770k and a mobo to match, im not up to speed on cpu stuff wut should i get? budget is probably 300 for the combo
@grand spindle you are going to need a new powersupply
which would you recommend
the cheapest decent one we can link you is the CX at around 84 usd
for what wattage?
would you recommend power supply before gpu?
@woeful elm thats the cheapest decent one that is available (650w, 550 being out of stock currently)
@grand spindle let me put it like this, i would not dare plug in the new gpu in that old powersupply of yours
well i wouldnt do a thing without consulting a doctor
650 for 84 isnt bad at all, leaves room for a beefier build down the line. would still wait for the v to pass for some components
or a professional
@grand spindle put in simpler terms, psu first
you are very welcome
just send me the link as a DM @grand spindle
i will post it on behalf of you
on behalf of @grand spindle https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/Categories/Products/Power-Supply-Units/cx-series-config/p/CP-9020122-NA
CX Series⢠power supply units provide 80 PLUS Bronze efficiency at a competitive price point featuring black cable sleeving and connectors and a thermally controlled 120mm fan.
that canada site pick is correct or a mistake @grand spindle ?
didn't know they were backwards
