#building-and-recc-chat

Okay then yeah definitely going for the xt then
Lol
Currently my build is out of date almost
I have a 1060 6gb
Mobo is a b350m ๐
it's always going to be out of date
every build will always be out of date lol
in a sense
True but I mean it's almost to the point it needs an upgrade.
I can still run over 60fps on high depending upon the game.
Borderlands 3 ehh like 70 to 80 on high/medium
bl3 was tanking super hard for me the first couple weeks it was out
5700 XT will do fiiine
like, 40-50 fps
it'll annihilate 1080p and 1440p will be a stroll
then it was either driver updates or updates within the engine cuz i was sitting at almost double that
Damn
90-100 FPS 1440p with max settings
but that's also in 4k fully maxed
That's awesome @pulsar garnet
I can't wait to start my build lol
I'm getting the thermaltake core p3 in red. Still wondering about wall mounting it lol
and idk if the 3800X is worth it over the 3700X
unless you find it for around $350
Yeah
I think Amazon has it at 350
It's a bundle with the Asus x570 crosshair viii hero
So it's 734 bucks. Debating on whether or not that Mobo is really worth it lmao
honestly unless you need the extra cores for something, just get a 3600 and take that extra money into a gpu
That desk though
Just trying to achieve a good 90fps+ on new titles basically
So I figured the 3800x would be decent
what resolution?
The new monitor I'm getting is 2560x1080
tbh, the $150 on the 3800x won't offer much gaming performance unless you're streaming and stuff
ig you could get a 3600 or 3600X then
Okay cool saves me money lol
or put that 150 into a GPU upgrade
yep
like maybe a 2080
clairvoyant
but if you're just doing 1080 ultrawide maybe not
but it gives headroom for 1440p / 1440p uw
21:9 ratio 30 inch
that pixel density tho
200hz
Up to 200 anyhow
I'd like to get over 120 fps on most games but I'm sure I'll need more than a 3600x
Probably not tbh
you're getting it backwards, you're going to be much more gpu limited when pushing for high fps
having a fast cpu helps but you will see more returns with a better gpu vs a better processor in most gaming cases
I'm pretty new to pc lol my bad
i didn't mean for that to sound dismissive lol
Lmao your good
if i had a choice between a 3600x/2080s or a 3800x/5700xt the choice is pretty clear for me
but the 3600x+2080s is at least $150 more
so they're not really equals
Yeah
hey
good evening
So then what's a good Mobo for the 3600x
I'm not sure if the 570 will work. Motherboards are so weird lmao
Nvm found another bundle lmao
Damn that saves me 300 dollars ๐ฎ
Doesn't have to be x570. Built in wifi is a plus. But doesn't matter the brand or make
wifi ๐คฎ well tbh i am pretty happy with my c8h
most boards with wifi are $100+ more
Damn I have a wireless adapter so I mean it doesn't have to be built in lol. I can't reach my router so sadly it has to be wireless
i don't use the wifi, but the built in bluetooth is nice for my elite v2 controller
Bluetooth is nice for sure
But even that doesn't have to be a thing for me anyways
I have nothing Bluetooth ๐
honestly, if you already have a card that's adequate speed for your wifi, then why pay for it in the motherboard?
True it just looks ugly lmao
what's not ugly is better graphics cuz you saved money on stuff you didn't need to get stuff that you could put more use to ๐
at least that's my stance
Hell yeah I'm glad I came on here to talk lol
Saved me hundreds lol
The new bundle is 404 Instead of 734 lol
yeah if you saved $300 you can definitely take that $300 extra in your budget and dump it into a 2080
or whatever is relevant when you actually do build it
Hell man I might aswell not even build a new PC
I currently have a ryzen 5 2600
I mean is it even necessary to upgrade that?
i wouldn't even bother with a new motherboard if you're not getting a new cpu
honestly what i would do is
Yeah but the b350 is ugh
i would buy whatever GPU you were going to budget for
and throw that in your current build
if it still leaves something to be desired, go from there
cuz that cpu and mobo will be fine for gaming
See my case right now is like a case from 2008 ๐
I'd love to get a new case
And then I was just thinking about just building another
you could build a new one and still get several hundred out of your old build to offset it
as it's still current enough to have a market
But if I can save money maybe I'll just get a case and gpu. And yeah that's true too
i would keep your build, throw in a nice gpu, and if that's enough, call it good
a 3600x will be faster just by virtue of being, well, faster, but hard to say whether it would be worth it
True I'm going for looks to much I need to stop that lmao
Now the thing is. Would a triple fan gpu fit..... Lmao
I need to measure how much room I have in there.
Ok so new question. 1080ti or 5700xt๐
Money wise 5700xt is more worth it to me lmao
1080ti outperforms a 5700xt with a pretty decent margin, so it really depends how much you can find a 1080ti for
Wait a 1080 ti outperforms 5700xt, that can't be right
There's a pretty significant uplift in a 1080ti over a 5700xt
Whether it'll be worth the hassle is another story
If you have one locally available that's affordable, and you're ok with a card that's EOL then yeah, it'll make sense
bunch of their warranties should be expired or expiring within the next year

mine ends oct 2020 so i plan to grab a 3080Ti before then
I'm wondering if the jump to 7nm will be significant enough to warrant an upgrade already for my 2080ti
Pretty tough to predict but if AMD's gains on 7nm GPUs are any indication, then the 3080tis may be pretty beefy, cuz it stands to reason barring manufacturing issues, that nvidia will have made significant leaps too via the move to 7nm
I remember someone doing some math and saying it should be at the very least a 7% gain
7% is nothing, nvidia wouldn't bother with an entirely new architecture for that, it'll be quite a bit more than that lol
Like that's roughly the difference between a 5700xt and 2070s, which I highly doubt you'd be able to tell a difference between in games
They'll do whatever makes them money xD
7nm Nvidia will get people hyped and if it's a new gen people with deep pockets will go ahead and buy, and anyone still on non 2000 will probably buy too
Not everyone, but there's always a market
Well it was like 7% minimum just off of the amount of transistors, but their would undoubtedly be more performance possible than that
I still can't believe the 1080ti still outperforms
I found a water-cooled 1080ti for I think it was 500 or so
@willow gorge the case is a phanteks p600s
10xx series will last for a good 2 to 6 years (depending on which one said person would be using)
same how the 980 and 980 Ti will last for about 3 more years before people would have to be playing on like medium settings
Yeah it's kinda crazy I thought the 5700 xt was a rtx competitor after all
2080 ti or 1080ti?
if u got the budget, definetly 2080ti
Are you asking which one to buy?
otherwise i recommend 2070 over 1080ti
2080 Ti
heck you can even go for the 2080 Super instead which would cost less
How good are extension cables for PSUs?
I see some on amazon for 30 bucks but not sure how cheap they should be
I love them they make my build possible. I have a custom build so the normal ones do not reach all parts.
i would have no reccomendations on the ones to buy. mine are from cable mod.
75 dollars but they are custom
cablemod are usually more expensive, kind of like the asus rog of hardware
yeah but i find them to be very good quality and if your looking for custom without going boutique they are the best
Im trying to tidy up the cable management on a prebuilt i got but i do not know what some of these cables are. Can anyone help me out.
It seems to be the sata cable for my hdd but it just connects to another open cable
@grand brook I will SEND you Velcro cable ties to help clean that up.
@gaunt zinc why thank you, but I have already purchased velcro ties.
@gaunt zinc Do i get a modular PSU then lol
Reason: Posted an invite
Hi I'm thinking on Building me a New Gaming PC an would like help
@little osprey https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FwGbhg
You pretty much have a RX 470 already and you might use the storage in your old system as well in the new
Ok What about Upgrading my System I can send you the info so I can get help
I remember the system you have now which is using an FX processor which there is no real upgrade path for that besides for the GPU
GPU?
Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace a power supply.
not too hard at all
just gotta make sure you dont pull any of the other wires
also
do NOT reuse the cables
always use the new ones that come with the psu
most of the time the way the pins are situated means that you could plug stuff in wrong and fry the PC
so basically just use the new cables and youre good to go
@little osprey graphic card
Also like you mentioned you have a RX 470 so with that system you would be fine
@latent bronze https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ I hope this show's all that I have
@little osprey you have to give the link like this one https://i.gyazo.com/987a91fe6a207f779dd18cdc1de78e00.png
Try this ---> https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jnQK3t
Ya the FX 8350 pretty much has no upgrade path which is why the system i suggested there would be a better upgrade
@little osprey what's your budget?
This would be the difference between the 8350 and 1600 https://i.gyazo.com/1dc0823d55869c6f020c835d62e3d76f.png
There is no budget Ok so my 8350 is good to go then
no, the 8350 is very old and outdated
๐ข
even for its time when it was released, it was a mediocre processor
7 years ago
lol
Ok looks like i do have to rebuild my Gaming PC then
weren't they released in 2011?
8350 is more a quad quad then 8/8
idk it says 2012 there
What can I change in my PC then. I was thinking on going with a MSI Motherboard
So if you were doing a full overhaul whatโs the max you would want to spend on it @little osprey
Even the lawsuit won with it favoring 4/4 with bs desgin
can do anything from $300 to $300,000, but i would need a budget for what you're looking to spend @little osprey
I would have to say $1,000
Are you 100% sure
300000 lmaoooooooooo wtf
Im going to be doing streaming from my PC an PS4 an PS3
never heard of that price point ever
more of an execration when someone doesnt give me a budget and just says they want a good computer
I really dont want to spend more then that but if i have to I will save the money up like i did with my PC i have now an that took me over 3 years to do
Well i find the RX 470 he has is still good to this day right now
if you wanted to spend $1000 to build an all new PC, i would go with something like this
5 not 3
That's good what demon posted
he mentioned streaming
A ryzen 3 is still better then a 8350
yeah that build will handle streaming just fine
It still hyperthreads
R3 doesnt have SMT
Really?
just 4 core / 4 thread
1st gen R5 had 4/8 and 6/12
Which series
2400G and 3400G is 4 core 8 thread as well
4/8 was dead on arrival, so they discontinued out other than the R52400g / R5 3400G
I thought they then went to 6/12 r5 gen 2
Yeah
4/8 is ok in a cheap cpu
R5 isn't cheap enough
on Aliexpress they're selling a R5 1400 for like 50$ lol
for about $340, you can get a really respectable upgrade, while still using some of the components from your current PC @little osprey
I'd say not using AliExpress for r5
@austere condor That's what I was just looking at to LOL
You may get a r5, or a crappy CPU you can't return
Unless Ali fixed they're sell and run sellers
You can get a full refund on Ali now
They have pretty much about the same policy as ebay now
Ok
but yeah, thats what i would recommend to upgrade to while still making use of some of the old parts from your current system. its much mroe affordable than dropping $1000 on an all new system, and its still a very good option in terms of performance to go with @little osprey
I was just thinking that to
so in all reality my Current PC will be abot 1k or over
no I wouldnt say that, the parts you currently have are not worth a whole lot
FX 8350/board/16GB ram is worth $60~
the 240mm AIO cooler is worth $35
the 1TB HDD is worth $10
the RX 470 is worth $65
case is worth maybe $5-$10
PSU is worth $20
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gb88Jb
the parts i marked as purchased in this list are parts i recommend you keeping
The hard drive you have is a little crappy being 5400RPM
Ok I'll see what I can do thanks guy's
My Girl would like a laptop for Schooling what do you guys recommand
a lenovo thinkpad or other lenovo laptop
There is the Asus TUF laptops which is good for gaming and affordable
Can you be so kind an shoot me a Link
under 1000$
Would be able to play most games on very high to ultra settings depending on the game
Here is a list of games that i play the most. Mass Effect Trilogy,Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, DOOM Fable HD, STO, PWI
perfect world i havent played that in years
O I forgot also play SWTOR
I an hoping the Laptop can Handle them all
I really hate Intel
So that laptop could handle all those on ultra
Hey guys quick question about ram and mobo compatibility
Can i run ddr4 3600mhz with a asus here maximus 8 alpha?
@little osprey outside build quality, I found Acer's used to give the most bang for your buck under 1 grand
But most are Intel i3 or i5
yuck LOL
Do colored plates for covering unused fan slots exist?
@little osprey Is this your case Corsair Crystal Series 680X RGB CC-9011168-WW Black Steel / Plastic High Airflow Tempered Glass ATX Smart Case
Yessir
But the white one
Found somethink kinda like im looking for but dont need a fan cover... uxcell 120mm Computer PC Dustproof Cooler Fan Cover Dust Filter Mesh 5pcs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010ESDROS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UJc1DbV3DT3FQ
Ok now we are getting some where
How manny Fan's single fans do you have all together
3 on front with 3 fan radiator. One on back exhaisting. 2 on bottom. And 1 on top left above motherboard
Echausting
Exhausting
Accroding to what i see in the pic you want the 3 front fans to be intake's
Your Water Cooling as outtakes
the one in the back as a Outtake
My 3 fan h150i is on the front cooled from intake.
I found something like this CaseLabs 120mm Fan Hole Cover Plate, Solid, Gunmetal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F67O70K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_GMc1Db21YRK0X
But its unavailable
The 2 bottom's on the bottom you might have to ask an you dont want anything covering the Airflow's
The 2 intake fams on the bottom blow onto my 2080 ti and i have an intake on the top
Fans
Your Liquid Cooling is always a outtake
The top right fan slot cant be used because the h150i radiator is in the way.
The 3 corsair LL fans are mounted in the front so i can see the fans with the radiator behind it
For Exp my Pc has a grand total of 4 Fan's an 1 Liquid Cooling
2 in the front is a intake 1 on the bottom is a intake 1 in the back is a outtake an my Liquid Cooling is a outtake
Is your Liquid Cooling in the Front or Top
Front because its 3 fan
Wont fit top
Ok I think that's where you made a mistake you got a Liquid Cooling for the front when you should have for the Top an the Front has 3 fans already
Yeah.
This is what I recomand -->https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16835103234?Item=N82E16835103234
Will a 140 x140 mm magnetic dust cover fit this case on the top slot? @little osprey
I wouldn't block any Airflow at all due to if you block your PC will overheat
I just want to out a dusto cover on
Put
To be honest I have no clue
I would like to know what you guys think.
Upgrade 2: https://www.newegg.com/black-asus-rog-strix-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811173035?Item=N82E16811173035
Upgrade 3: https://www.newegg.com/black-montech-air900-elegant/p/2AM-00CN-00003?Item=9SIAK919MC2418
Or Upgrade 4 RaidMax: https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007583 50001622
@little osprey unless you love razer my reccomendation is the normal dynamic. or the rog
@polar holly Got a Link I can see?
Thats the black and the white is
@little osprey
and place other rgb strips in if you arent using razer products already
If your using a razer ecosystem it would be a good buy
What do you mean
The side is coming out
I cant seem to find the right case to hold my stuff that I have an I dont think there is a Replacement part's either for my RaidMax
This is what I have
You just need a new side panel?
An Front an Top
An I dont know where to get em from
Your best bet is contacting raidmax and seeing if they'll sell you them
That's what Im doing right now
If it's a discontinued case you're likely SOL
Whats a good aio cooler for the threadripper?
@little osprey I hope not ๐ฆ
ryzen
people also say intel :c
just eenie
i know but i still cant come to a desision
Eenie meenie minuy mo
or grab a 3600 by the toe
i hear so many bad things about ryzen, but the price is too good
ryzen is great what
while im more familiar with intel too
single core performance between the 2
es hard
Anyone who is talking crap on ryzen is just super biased. They're not the absolute fastest for gaming, but to say they're not any good is patently false
Coming from someone whose last four or five builds in the last 12 years or so have been Intel
i still have a week to decide
Depends on a lot of things. Both are very viable
It's a really good time to be a PC enthusiast, it's been a long time since you've actually had compelling options/competition
so many decisions
i have two options lined up, ill have to pick one eventually
Hey i was thinking of making my first pc build and i was wondering if you guys got any reccomendations that i should look at ?
how much better is a x470 mobo compared to a b450
if youre not overclocking id just go with whatever is cheaper tbh, when searching just select both and sort by lowest price lmao
600 to 1,000
And i use it mostly to watch anime and to play fighting games and rpgs and the occasional fps
gotcha
probably gonna go with a 570 for this build
im making a list hold on
oh
@elfin basin do you want the pc to look good?
or do you not care about looks
i will most likely oc a little bit
dude thats freakin AWESOME
but b450 mobos can overclock
Yeah im in new york
youre better off with x470 for overclocking
good to know
also it depends which fps
cause if it's esports titles then the 1660ti is overkill
but if it's like
destiny
then no
theres no problems running 3rd gen on b450 mobos right>
just might need a bios update?
Reason: Bad word usage
Are you gonna be streaming
no
or doing any workstation type tasks
Hm
Well
I mean the 3600 would be faster for just gaming but
if you want the 2700x that's right up there
It's also cheaper so
yeah they are
which is why the 2700x is probably better for you
in case you ever do decide to stream
those 8 cores have your back
i have a laptop that would most likely be used as my streaming pc
รถ
streamed before on it at 900p 60fps
it wasnt that bad
emulation is something im looking at too
Ye whatever works best
i tested out the gpu ill use on a 2600 pc and it ran the emus i use well
i think i have my build completed
hopefully
does emulation really require a lot of power
YES
it requires a LOT of power
jeez all caps zack
id say it requires a lot of single core performance
well, depending on what system you try to emulate lol
P S 5
emulating PS3 is a nightmare lol
before it comes out
which is why im still deciding intel over ryzen a little
but i think ill go with ryzen in the end
ryzen much better can confirm
at least i have a unlocked cpu
u gotta run cinebench r20 and lets see who wins
yeah
:D
overclocking turned my 1070 ti within margin of error to a 1080 :l
don't worry you just need more real life xp to unlock your locked cpu
rl xp being
money
man imagine having a powerful gpu
can't relate
yes
My psu is rgb so it gets a bonus 200 watts
i made this parts list for https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NvJRTC, any recommendations? @elfin basin
637 left for the rest of my pc which i might get done in the next 2 weeks
oops
i pasted the link and @tted him in the wrong spaces
you get the point
keep in mind he will be streaming, playing games, and they wanted the pc to look decent
What are you missing still
Also
frys is selling a 3 pack of rgb fans for 30
And I want
what brand
shoot for some reason that list didnt put the price for the cable extensions
TT

pretty good
WWWWHHHHHEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEE
At my local one
Also I think I may have missed it
It was a daily one not weekly special
ah
I am currently searching the whole site for rgb fans
40 buck for 3 cables tho :c
wait hold on
4 cables*
oh they have a corsair three pack for 40 tho

where
SEND LINK
the thermaltake fans are better in every way
and theyre cheaper
and more compatible
well, if you have a 5v argb
i just want corsair fans bc they match the fans the case ima buy has preinstalled
where is that corsair 3pack link tho
they're the less nice ones though
oh
ya
they are
waitwaitwait
and i still paid top dollar for them ๐ญ
Oof the 30 dollar ones were enermax
those are the ones i was looking for

here you go
Idk if you can ship them tho
clearance
unless you happen to live in illinois near chicago
wait i cant get :c
who was that part list for @lime forge ?
lmao I thought you were brit for some reason
might just get 1 sp120 fan lol
Zack
for 30 bucks

i just need one
agh they have some name i cant easily @
hold on
@elfin basin
gotem
the list was for them
do they live near a mc?
yes
wait
hold on
before you yell at me
i already told them about the bundle deal
so HUSH
NO
zack could you check dm's?
IT HAS NO RGB
340 with a mir, only $7 over ur budget for a much better gpu
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/FaulkN/saved/TXHPnQ this is my build :c
yeah but like no rgb
yeah but like way better
mine has rgb ๐
the h500 doesnโt need any
zack
yeah, but keep in mind they wanted looks, why i recommended the case fans and ram
but you are correct, your pc build list is around the same price and a lot more powerful
in the graphics department
then just buy fans later
but no rgb'
of they want looks
no rgb ram
my build is 20 dollars less and has rgb B)
i dont like amd gpus personally
y
bad with OpenGL atm
sry but thats an ugly card too, but that doesnt effect performance
its hard too look at tho
you think that's ugly
Could someone recommend a budget fully pre-built gaming pc preferably with mouse and keyboard but if not included that is fine
but one of the kitty cards
lel
the kitty cards
prebuilt
yeah prebuilt
there's a lot on sale rn on newegg
prebuilts are horrible
if they want prebuilt they probably just don't want the hassle of building
i know but i cant find a cheapish self build pc
i mean r/bapcs has some great sales on them sometimes
if yall could recommend parts that will make a whole pc i can try to build it but i need it cheap
600
ah, he moved to general
$600
sorry
he just pinged me so i saw it
I can go a lil over but not too much maybe like $50 more
if you live near a microcenter, you can get that motherboard and processor bundled together for a $30 discount
besides a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, yes
hmmm well you might need a extra case fan or two
hold on
ok
ok
ewewwwww
my otemu brown keyboard still runs fine after a year of use
and a cheap 20 dollar mice from amazon with rgb also still works like a charm
Bruh just get a redragon
I thought my build was cheap apparently its ok lol
my keyboard lasted a year before the keys started to stop working
because loud is better
smh
i got my g502 for 40 at wallyworld
whats a good 144hz gsync monitor tho
same actually vapelord
sorry apex 7
a lot of the cheap ones ive seen are tn :c
hell i have a dell 27 inch 144hz amd freesync monitor i paid like 150ish for

on ye old amazon
benq looks nice
it was cheap and i was able to get it right then or i would've got something else
but those bezzels :c
imagine having a mecha membrane @lime forge :V
ayyy zeal will have Black Friday sales on switches
I have a mecha membrane
and made it to legend comp in destiny
But now I'm ready
for those overly loud blues
Bring em on
๐ค clickies arenโt really good for gaming
I need some help guys, I plugged everything in, but nothing is working, no lights no fans nothing except the RGB on my motherboard
Not sure whatโs wrong
so motherboard is getting power...
try unplugging everything that might be plugged in, if you didn't already...
if there's a graphics card try with no graphics card first
I unplugged graphics card, same result
Im going to be unplugging and re doing all of it tomorrow see if it fixes it
@narrow elbow do you have the power button connected to the motherboard properly?
@gritty trout I wouldn't call myself good at it, but I put together my first custom loop about a month ago, what's your question?
@west finch I did connect the power button to the motherboard
Yeah I checked the motherboard manual and itโs in the right pins
12 and 4 pin power cables plugged in on the motherboard right?
Yes all the correct power cables are plugged into the motherboard
not sure whatโs wrong
Santaโs coming early. Hereโs what Iโm looking at.
Iโll will take some pictures once I get home and see if that helps
Noice
really the premiere screencapping software imo
In real time too love it
captures GIFs too
Oh my
press one button and you can have it take and upload a screenshot to your site of choice
very powerful
Likes it
@blazing bear u will want a better board
Ok
that board is solid but i don't see why you wouldn't get an x570 board
i know money but
Yeah get a newer chipset for sure
yea u gonna put a 12 core on it the vrms might get hott
I donโt OC but I get it.
this is one of the better, inexpensive x570s
they have a wifi model but i presume most people don't want wifi
if u dont overclock get a b450 asus rog strix
Looking now
Thx
its a solid board my friend uses the x470 and loves it
b450 is fine, i think it just causes me some cognitive dissonance to throw a high end cpu on the "mid-range" motherboard
yep
so maybe get the msi tomahawk max
It already comes updated ready for 3rd gen
So you don't have to get the temporary athlon from amd
Ok I have the toma for intel now nice board
id rather strix
that board looks hella cheaply made
Ok so what out the box cones updated for the cpu
Then letโs keep price 200 ish 220 is ok
most boards will have probably ran out of the old stock of non-updated bios motherboards
i would hope at least lol
ye probably but just to be sure
It's only like 5 more dollars for the max
idk lol most people in here pick the tomahawk
Ok I look at that list and get one from it.
there is nothing wrong with MSI boards
it's preference
Yup pref
they're like 5 dollars apart anyway
most people will go for cost over all in motherboards tbh
unless you need pcie4.0, or just want it, there's not much reason to get x570 boards
i just feel weird suggesting something other than the premium stuff for the high end cpus
i said b450 cause his first choice was cheap as well
maybe there is
some of the nicer b450 boards will have similar quality vrms as x570
Idk but like
most of the cost of x570 isn't in the vrms anyway
imagine an msi creation or something
now the 3800x would work good but the 12 core might heat up vrms too much
X570 I like but may wait for pricing.
with that 3900
So x or b
i think you're overstating how hot vrms get
they're designed to withstand like 120*c
x really isnt needed , its more expensive too
the issue is the quality of the power delivered, less the heat
hes not overclocking so doesnmt matter lol
The x570 phantom
asrock boards are also fine
i wouldn't worry about any motherboard i got from any of those brands
tbh the only board I would say avoid
i have the x370 gaming x its trash compared to the x370 strix
is the nzxt ones
ok, so you're writing off an entire brand just because you have a bad experience with one product?
ive boiught 3 different ones not just this one
idk I like my msi board
they all have been having issues
no rgb or anything but it gets the job done
X470-f
and stays cool
any strix board is premium quality
should be fine yeah
they're...all fine
the strix boards are of similar quality to the other fancy lines of boards from all the other manufacturers
aorus line, the higher end MSI line, whatever
i had the asrock z270 which was great but once i jumped to ryzen 7 the asrock boards are made wayyy cheaper than my intel build.
Msi godlike
and yes i agree the ROG stuff is overpriced when companies like gigabyte are offering, frankly, better VRMs on cheaper boards
saying this as my 3900x is running on an ROG board lol
I said most of the time
I was gonna get that rog board originally
but I went with an x570 for a little more
i was too but cheaped out on the asrock x370 gaming x and wish i had forked up the extra 50
for the x470 strix

all places i would start with b450
although with that gigabyte board some reviews complain about a lack of clarity as to what processors it supports out of the box
i.e., it may not have bios update for 3rd gen
and no, $120 in a vacuum is not overpriced
i said ROG stuff is overpriced, as in, on the whole it's overpriced
Fair. Thanks and I will look at that
they have wifi models of all three of those boards i believe, if that's something you want
but price jumps up
i still think x570 is the way to go, this may not be a perfect analogy by any means but are you gonna put mid range tires on a mclaren?
but i think that's just me being a bit neurotic
so take that comment on x570 with a grain of salt lol
x570 is the way to go
imo if you're spending ~$700-800 on this upgrade, it makes sense to cough up the extra $70-80 to jump up to x570 as well
i guess i feel a little better knowing my neurosis is being backed up by someone lol
I found a x570 I liked by ASUS
Just makes sense
Thank you all
Iโm no noob to PCs just been a while since I had to research
Yeah and if you ever truely want to hit the ryzen4000 series coming out I believe next year the x570 will be a better board to upgrade rather then having to buy the cpu and mobo.
i doubt he'll be looking to upgrade to 4000 series with a 3900x heh
Ryzen 9 would be longer than 4 to 5 years
Good Iโm hoping
wasnt there something that someone said the 8 core was better for gaming than the 12 core?
heck there are older Xeon's from like LGA 1156/1155 that is still up there with the i9's lol
ipc > core count
the 8 cores will likely clock ever so slightly faster
so, yeah, the 8 cores will on occasion outperform a 3900x
just get a 3800x and a x570
Well more cores doesn't always mean better cause the latest 3950X the 3900X does better in gaming
the lesser 100 bucks on cpu will make it a better motherboiard cause x570 starts at 200
then no bios is needed
update
If you are doing heavy work loads then more cores would be better
I stream and game
That goes without saying
a 3800x is fine for streaming i stream with a 1700x
streaming and gaming you can do that with a 3600 still >_<
i would lean towards 3900x still
i wouldn't
Well I want to be good for 4-5 thatโs goal
nothing heavy work needed
ok, well i'm leaving this conversation
IVE BEEN USING A 1700X FOR 2 YEARS LOL
If you want plug and play performance for multi-purpose gaming + other stuff , 3900x is a great pick (at the $500 level) If not,I'd go 3600 for $194.
If you want an overclocking friendly system for cpu and ddr4, aiming to reach the highest levels of fps gaming performance, go 9900ks or 10980xe + big water loop / chiller.
good for you
your needs and desires are not his
I'm aware. I have one. Does my already lengthy block up there need more filler? haha
is 3600 is fast then 3700x is better than 3600
They are still good but is it really needed since he could just go with the 3600X instead
@little osprey great game play good graphics no frame loss
While streaming. End goal thatโs it
i wouldnt game and stream with a ryzen 5 lol
I do
ouch
i have no issues at all as well
3600x and 3900x are entirely different tiers of cpus, if he wants something that will offer more longevity and more overhead for streaming, he will be better suited by the 3900x
Those are good goals. Would you prefer a system work with very easy setup? Or are you interested in taking time and effort to tweak/tune etc?
pfft lol
@little osprey yes
i streasm 1440 to 4k
I don't have a monitor for 1440p so
Ok
@ Otroud - what platform, bitrate, and encoding do you use?
and i don't want to stream at 1440p when my game isn't on it as well
if you say so
maybe not 60 frames but i can . if i have a zen+ i could
when i stream 1440p my cpu usage doesnt even hit 50%
so im sure i can do 4k low settings
not max settings tho no way
i se stream obs orwhatever its called
also have gigabit internet if that helps
Anyways i use a Ryzen 5 2600 and i am able to stream with no problem and i was also able to stream with no problem using a 2400G back then
for streaming you just need higher than the recommended processor which is an i5 4670K which a lot of newer processors are better than that
"obs orwhatever" as in streamlabs with all auto settings?
Or obs studio with x264 + custom encoder flags?
Or obs studio using nvenc?
