when you put on the cooler the contact point will squish down the blob and spread it throughout the processor evenly

if you do an X, you might get too much and it will be a pain to upgrade ur processor later down the line because there will be thermal paste like everywhere

are they necessary? no not for about 10 years now, the ones on your motherboard are fine

capture devices are good for capturing gameplay from another PC or maybe a games console for streaming or recording

they take a lot of the load off of the device playing the game

I got a Rosewill TYRFING and it only came with 8 standoffs, 3 PSU screws, and like 2 fan screws. Luckily my PSU and fans came with their own screws, and I had an extra standoff and corresponding screw from my other case, which were the same height (different thread though) so I was able to make it work
