I basically want to play FNAF help wanted, and maybe games like beat saber

Beat Saber, Super Hot, Boneworks all run great with the 1050 ti the fans don't even get loud. I wish I knew how much better it could look so I could justify an upgrade to the 1660 super or even 2060 to just have the Ray Tracing so help get some longevity out of the purchase.
@daring sleet The 1050 ti can run a lot of the games out there since the Oculus Quest can run them and are basically a smartphone processor. You will have a lot of fun.

i used a Windows Mixed Reality headset for my testing so take it with a grain of salt

tracking was much better and smoother on the 1070
sometimes with the 1050ti my saber would update after i swung it so it would just skip past the block

i picked up a Samsung odyssey plus for $180 back in October and i couldn't be happier. tracking is decent and display is so nice. Honestly WMR has become my main because of the screen quality, with some tracking upgrades you could have a really good budget vr headset

I'm not having much luck at all, I can't get to safe mode or reset into Windows Recovery Environment either, I've gotten another stop code: "kernel security check failure" and one similar to the first except now: "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"
I did find a forum with a pretty specific guide, but frankly I am having a real hard time deciphering what settings are where and how to change them.

So you need to check your SPD from "DRAM Timing Information" The last line you have should be something like 3600 or whatever your XMP Ram speed is. You will notice the usual "16-19-19-39" But also tRC tRRD_L/S & tFAW. Now for me these settings were incorrect tRC being auto'ed to 85 and tFAW at 44, with these settings left in auto in "Dram Timing Configuration". Make sure these settings match. 9 times out of 10 this will be your problem for boot issues as well. I should also mention if you are running higher frequency (3600mhz for example dual side RGB Ram and your fclk is not matching the speed (1800mhz) then you need to force it manually by selecting it in the bios for the time being.

I have noticed that sometimes the problem stems from other settings being left on Auto such as SOC and VDDG Voltages. I Originally suggested at least 1.08-1.1 for soc However I have since found with the correct ram settings in place I can run 1.05 on SOC and 1.03 on VDDG voltages with no loss of performance. Never run your VDDG higher than SOC you will cause loss of performance. The only way to truly test what an ok voltage is to run a cinebench if you run one on auto voltages then another on lower voltages you should see no difference in performance. Also note that the boot order sometimes tends to forget itself. Make sure you have only the drive you want to boot from in the boot order if you have an Boot Partition left over on an old SSD and get rid of it.
Cold Boot Bug
One last thing if you notice a post code of some kind probably a 22 or the occasional 4F or 8d . This is due a cold boot bug and can only be worked around by hard powering off the system (Hold down power) and powering it before it does it for you and if you find it keeps stopping on a code the only thing to do is let it shut off and it will reset bios and load the saved bios again but hopefully with the correct voltages and settings you shouldnt be seeing much of the codes getting stuck at boot
Bad LEDs
If you have flickering LEDs or wrong colours or dead LED's its probably not your hardware going bad. Its probably the trash software. What you can do is reset the firmware. In the C:\Program Files (x86)\ASRock Utility\ASRRGBLED\Bin folder is a writefw file. open a command line to the folder and run the file. it will reset your firmware however the flickering if left on static will probably return. Ive had to leave my on slow breathe so it doesnt happen. I believe setting in bios may stop flickering since its better so if you have that option id stick with that but if you have too many LEDs for Bios to handle per default. Install Polychrome and set the LED number correctly so they light up, then uninstall it and go back to bios.
I dont know if any of this is useful but it seems somewhat relatable to what is happening to me

@twin kraken Well, if you could find the XMP profile, that'll be an easy apply, but if you want to just change the numbers, in your bios, it splits up tRC into tRCRD and tRCWR, but both should usually be the same
so tCL to 16, tRCRD and tRCWR to 18, tRP to 18, and tRAS to 38

I'll explain the steps and what it does.

First, you turn off your PC, flip the switch on the back to make sure it's completely off. There is a small bios battery on your motherboard (sometimes it hides under the graphics card), you take it out. Then you press the power button on the case a few times to help discharge the power. After a few minutes, you put the battery back in and start as normal.
What this does, is basically reset your bios, all the settings back to default, and clears it out.

If you needed to short the CTC pins, all you need to do is hold a metal object against both prongs for a few seconds (usually 5).

Well, thankfully I am able to get into the bios menu and change values and such. I haven't had any of the graphical anommallyies as earlier. I also reset the CMOS , battery and such (should I get a new battery?) Is the CMOS seperate from the CMOSS?

the headphones look like the same as the Index, which is a HUGE step up from any other audio system, the controllers look ergonomic (although chunky) and the grip buttons look analog which is way better for immersion, the button layout is the same as oculus so devs dont have to make specific layouts for WMR, the comfort of the headset looks great with the head band design, and the HP Reverb has one of the higher resolution panels seen in VR headsets so this will either be the same or an improvement as it is a direct successor to the HP Reverb.

Anybody here play Wolcen using a 5700XT?
Having a weird issue in Wolcen where CPU is pegged at 100%, but GPU is like 30-40% and running very low freqs. CPU is 9700K, GPU is PC RX 5700XT. It runs all other games perfectly (GPU maxing out at like 80-99% with 17-1800Mhz) but Wolcen just Efs it up for some reason.

Ok, so after much headache I am returning my mobo PSU and RAM to newegg. Planning on doing more research and purchasing alternative parts. I'm going to stick to my R3 3200G for now, but down the road I would like to get a R5 3600/GTX 1070 for regular gaming and some light VR. So with that said how would a R5 3600/GTX 1070 combo do with VR? 1080p 90fps is my goal, even at lower settings I think I would be happy. I honestly don't play to many modern games but have recently caught the itch for VR since I saw there was a new Half-Life, Asgards Wrath looks awesome to! So if anything I'm looking for a casual build that wont break the bank, but will give me a good first impression with VR (still have never tried yet) I would like to play some modern games to, as my PS4 recently WLOD'ed on me. I'm also curious if there is a decent Mobo around $100 that I would be ok to use my R3 for now but then eventually a R5. Would a GIGABYTE B450M DS3H do ok? I just don't want to regret buying an older board later down the road when I take the plunge for VR

Interesting, that is the exact board that I am returning(B450M PRO4). I had some unsolvable problems. Though, there are a number of issues that could have been "user error" But at this point I am curious as to compatible alternatives. I am leaning towards just trying the board again fresh though. That's the one design issue with the G2. LED based tracking is not the way to go, they should have done infrared light inside out tracking.

no, pretty steady in the 65 +/- 5 FPS in that area. Before was quite steady in the low 40s with a bunch of stuff going on. Which kinda sorta makes sense to have lower FPS with more stuff going on but not really when utilization was in the mid 40s as well for GPU and CPU never seemed to peak 70 per core

what was even weirder is that a lot of the time GPU utilization followed FPS pretty well. Going into pause menu allowed it to get lots of FPS (180 or smth at ~95 GPU util). But like 40 - 50 GPU util got me 40 - 50 fps, 70 - 80 GPU util got me 70 - 80 fps

It can. But that is comparing with desktop and smth like I think 5% - 8% higher power consumption. Could very will be different on mobile due to different power targets and such
not to mention thinking about it, battery life wont change to much as you'll rarely be gaming on battery and when doing other things on battery like watching videos or whatnot you're going to be using the iGPU from the CPU

oculus quest is okay, for $400 you get everything you need to play full VR games with great controllers and roomscale 6DoF.
my warnings, current games have to tone down their graphics to play on the Quest, so it might not hold up for future games, however Oculus Link allows you to connect it to the PC so you can play anything you could play on a PC.
more notes, finger tracking is not a selling point, its a gimmick for the Quest. Cool tech demo, but should not be a selling point.
Also, the screen is only 72hz which might not be great for everyone.
The headset itself is front heavy and the audio is sub-par.
Around September this year Oculus is expected to announce a sort of Quest 2 which is expected to fix all the issues of the current Quest such as the comfort issues, the low refresh rate scree, buggy Oculus Link, and some nicer upgrades such as rumored 90hz standalone and 120hz when plugged into a PC.

the other option at the $400 price range is the Rift S which is a lot more comfortable, 80hz screen, higher tracking volume with the 5 cameras vs the Quest's 4, however it retains the sub par audio, and lots of people have issues with it however i have not experienced any issues that I would not have without another headset.
also its not standalone which means it needs a PC.
oh, another thing, the Oculus Quest has hardware based IPD adjustment which makes it better for people with not-average IPD. (IPD stands for inter-pupillary distance, or the distance between your pupils measured in mm.)
The Rift S has software based IPD adjustment, and it fits most average IPDs, but if youre not average, then Quest might be a better option.
For just $200 more than the Rift S, the HP Reverb G2 is shaping up to be a much better value headset, however I recommend you wait for reviews as the last HP Reverb had a ton of quality control issues.
One final note- the Quest has a huge modding community which helps solve some if its main issues. Theres a bracket you can attach to use the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap which solves the comfort and front heavness and the audio issues, most of the issues present with the Quest, however deluxe audio straps are kinda hard to come by and cost around $100, so that, plus the Quest, plus the bracket you need to mount it ends up totaling $525 which at that point for just $75 more the Reverb G2 i was just talking about would be a much better experience assuming you have the PC to power it.

Well it depends on if they are planning on playing other games with that PC, and what they are willing to do. But if I were them I would probably do a full budget build so I could have that flexibility to play newer and more demanding games.
