I actually purchased and had to return the Dell for having a defective trackpad--it would get too hot and become unresponsive to clicking--but I'm not sure if this is an issue with the build quality or a particular unit. Well, you could build one. It honestly depends on what you want, you could go with used nuc mini PC's.
Or you could with other newegg and name brand pre builts.
I do highly recommend building your own, unless it is impossible. If you were to be sending this as some kind of gift, then yeah a nuc is pretty useful. Nucs are probably your best option, but there price to performance will probably be right in the middle of a desktop and a apple laptop. Which is not that great.
Now if you have budget of roughly 500, a laptop or a nuc makes sense
A lower end desktop makes sense in between 500 to 800.
Obviously everything above that would be higher end specs for a greater price

I don't recommend all used parts. ssd's don't always age well, too good to be true is communly to good to be true. Motherbourds/powersupplys tend to die slowlys, so you can normally just look at the bourd and know what is good and what is not.

Refresh rate (generally measured in hz) is just how quickly the buffer refreshes for the pixels in your monitor, it has nothing to do with how quickly your processors can process and relay graphical information. What this means is that no, higher refresh rate doesn’t mean higher FPS, but it does mean that anything in the 60-144 FPS range will generally now feel smoother. Your GPU can be outputting 200+FPS, but if your monitor is 60hz your effective FPS is 60, meaning your GPU is processing more frames than your monitor can actually show in a second. Higher refresh rate means higher possible effecitve FPS, meaning more of that FPS can actually be displayed per second.

I will say that I think there might be a bug in either the last few nvidia drivers or the last 2 updates for overwatch because I have had 2 different times where after about 10 minutes of gaming my vram fills up and the game crashes with an error about running out of vram. I was looking up some stuff last night and a few people said that using ddu to remove the drivers and reinstalling without the geforce experience fixed the problem. Also some people also did the following
1. Open your Documents
2. Find the Overwatch folder and enter it
3. Delete the Settings folder within
I don't currently use geforce experience, but I did accidently install it about the same time this started so I may try using ddu and then deleting the settings folder and see if it fixes the problem

standing on the tower if i'm facing away from the city it's nearly 70, toward the city and moving around the tower it's in the low to middle 30s
CPU is maxed out on both cores, which I expect given the relative power of the CPU, but it was never this bad using my previous video card
setting everything to low stabilizes it a bit, it's still down into the low 30s when i move
it's 300+ in orbit
That's odd, i turned it all the way up and then turned the render resolution down to 95% and it's stabilized between 55 and 60

On the other hand - multi GPU can scale quite well with NVlink for compute tasks , NV-link 2070 supers are a great choice since gpu memory can be pooled. If you're interested in 2080 ti choice, I'm happy to give input.

@honest ravine I would honestly suggest a 6GB GTX 1060, it's a solid gpu usually found used or referbished under 200 bucks, but be careful there's a 3gig model that's not really any better than a gtx970, or try for a 980ti, 1050ti, or rx 580/590

Ive always been disapointed with pc gamepads. Since you have infinite mapping available to you then you should have the buttons to match. Theres no reason there shouldnt be two mouse wheels on the underside. Six right thumb buttons seems like it should be standard but never will you find. There's simply no reason pc gamepads should be nearly as childish as console gamepads. More over, why dont any manufacturers offer replaceable joysticks? Joysticks die way too fast. There's just no proformance centric manufacturer's. State of the art golf balls but stone age golfclubs is an assbackwards philosophy when you're trying to reign in e-sports.

there are other features on an nvidia card that may swing you, i.e. having the nvenc chip on there to encode/capture, but tbh the amd GPU drivers are much better than they had been in the past

I have my anisotropy set to enhance application and supersampled, anti-alias to app settings, think I have that at 2x or 4x, I overrode the tessellation and capped it at 16x, medium graphics settings in D2 Otherwise besides disabling motion blur. 1080p on my display, but rendered with VSR. I might have switched it from SMAA to FXAA I'd have to launch destiny to check. I'll probably do that after I finish looking for used CPUs. Looks nice enough to me. But then I disabled Anti-aliasing completely in apex to get 144fps lulz

Hey everyone, I’m sorry for the complicated question. I have a Dell Optiplex 7020 small form factor...yes the one with the PCIe slot physically too close to the power supply to put a dual slot gpu in that slot. So I will have to put my low profile dual slot gpu in the x4 PCIe slot. Does anyone think I can use a PCIe extension cable to make use of the x16 slot. The case is so small I don’t think I can reorient it inside. Or should I just stick to the x4 slot and call it a day? Thanks!!
