770 is closed, 990 open. generally open back have wider soundstage but also leak a lot of sound. you can hear outside and people outside can hear what playing. i like open back but it depend on environment you in and personal preference

They also have better bass than almost all of stax offerings other than some vintage sets

@tight pulsar the 58x? It uses a really slow and non detailed driver (559 driver and dampener) while lacking the drmetailband mid accuracy that makes the 6x0 series popular and losing all the sound stage and imaging of a 559 and costing doubke

You get the negatives from each camp and none of the pros

If you mean the magni it is great for supplying a lot of power but sub half load and above half load it distorts really quickly

And I know the issue but you cant mod it because the non standard layout and pin outs of its components

@tacit wing it literally is the same and made on the same line other than the voice coil being wrapped longer which helps with avoiding tube amp distortion

For the headset a 4xx is actually pretty good but there is also the 559 which will see the same detail but be better for gaming if that is what you want from the 58x (4xx is still better imo but cost more technically) and there is the gr1 but that may cost like $10 more and I haven't personally tried that one

For the amp an atom is just lower distortion both above, at, and under half load by a huge margin while being the same price

Another issue with the 95x energizer is the lower amperage power brick sometimes seeing heavier bass rolloff so a 5 amp power brick fixes that @tacit wing

Unless you like screeching highs that also image super close to your ears and screeching sounds for certain things like "s" sounds then dont get those. If you are getting them fkr detail get a plannar or an estat instead and you will save money and get a whole different level of detail, for bass the 1990 isnt exactly good either, for mids it is meh but still worse than much cheaper options, for sound stage it is nothing really imspecial. But not something bad either, and for imaging it is noting special.

Really other than if for some reason you need a dynamic and hate plannars and electrostats for some reason but need detail or dont care for great mids or bass or any type of outstanding sound stage or imaging (880 is good for the price I in sound stage so it is a bit of an exception) and love extremely high highs that image too close beyer doesn't really make any good headphones

They make detailed dynamic headphones for the price that are still behind plannard and estats in every proce range

They are basically meant for the people who only know sennheiser exist and dont realize sennheiser only has like 2 good options to say "well in this one category we are usually better"

Estats are probably the most detailed sound, namely in high end and also have great bass, dynamics often have best subbass, and some see as the most full sounding, planars some see as “boring sounding but technically great” being flatter in sound with subbass being better than estat but bass under all. This is general description. I just want to point out you should not discourage people from a type of headphone, they are for different people and you pick the one you believe will be best for what you use them for or what you listen to
