it's oos
?
Sadly
Any other case?
Td500 mesh is about to drop
ya
I'm stoked for it
mhm
Great looking and performing case imo
gonna be neat
for how much
100
Yessir
okay td500 mesh is a go
I like it better in white than black :P
Same
Same
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C9EYVGY is that good
Which is better, the one you linked me or the one I linked
I do like the look of the one you linked me more than the one I linked
Because that beige and brown is
but noctua is just amazing
great fans great heatsinks
its for performance not looks
Okay Noctua it is
@cobalt lark if you want to have a white theme, you can go the neptwine thingy
pwm so you can control it with fan curves nd stuff
fair nuff
it gud
Okay, thanks for your help
One more question
How do I know if my fan is pushing or pulling air
Just so you know, if you reuse the cooler for newer stuff, noctua ships free mounting brackets
Ok thanks
What do you mean?
you could just plug the header in
and feel the air
without like screwing in the fan
Okay thanks!
I do that too lol
So lets say I put my hand on one side, the air is going out the other, it would be pushing?
?
@cobalt lark @ him but since it’s so late he probably won’t respond
@maiden delta @low pumice
Also, what would be better, getting a new case or getting an ssd
@cobalt lark I mean fans pull air in from one side and push out the other end..?
SSD case your choice
if you dont have an ssd def go for it
ohiya
Yeah I only have an HDD
I'm just wondering, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VN59BS9 is that a good CPU cooler?
dont think so
yeah if you can fit it in your case
Uhh which person should I agree with?..
Nevermind, so, I made some minor adjustments, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FZksCL that's the outcome of it.
you might want to get a bit higher capacity ssd
They make a d15 in white right?
"noctua" and "black" are the options
hehe
Ok lol
Which one does jp have then?
Nvm found it. He has white chromax heatsink covers on his black model
or you spray paint one of em
dont paint heatsink
Is the AIO I linked as good as it?
@stone jackal if you are not silly about the choice of paint, it is not a problem
again, "if you are not silly about the choice of paint...."
Yep
also, keep in mind, what is regular for you might not be regular other places in the world :)
For sure
@low pumice Is the AIO better or as good?
about the same but more expensive
I mean
@cobalt lark idk the difference, but the non-revised version is worse than the d15
the revised version is the same
I'd rather not deal with AIOs but meh
How do I know which is the revised and which isn't the revised version?
Is it just which is newer?
@low pumice
Ryzen 9 3900X, stock cooler okay or should I get an AIO?
It'll be fine. An aio wouldn't be much better if any
stock cooler can work, but if you oc you should probably get either a good air cooler or good aio
D15 ftw
What fan placement (given I only have 3 fans) are best for CPU cooling?
The rear one being outtake?
np
So I have a dell g7 laptop and I get temps up to like 80-85 playing rust but my frames drop for about 10-15 seconds from 60 to 3. How do I keep my laptop cooler
Hey guys I need help, so on Newegg it shows that my package is being delivered to a different address...
we said a little earlier but if you didn't already DM @real coyote about order issues
you might be able to get it changed if it hasn't been delivered alreaduy
@topaz blaze keep jokes like that to #general-chat
does anyone know any full face waterblocks for the FE 2070 super?

@severe raven
Thank you!
This is my current build, but the stock cooler isnt cooling my pc down enough and for most projects for my work, it's at around 88 to 93 c https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sb6BL2
So I was looking into getting a nzxt radiator. However I realized that if I were to install the radiator, it would replace my 3 intake fans on the front of my case bc theres no other location for it. That being said, would that be an issue for this build?
It would reduce airflow because you are putting a blocker infront of it
But i shouldnt Affect airflow that much
It
I have my two front intakes for my radiator collets and my gpu doest get too hot. And my cpu almost never reaches about 50-60
Above 50-60
So if I were to get a nzxt x73 or whatever model radiator I decide on after doing research, I wouldnt risk compromising my system?
What is the best cheap rgb fans for h710
What size do you need? In Win's Sirius Loop 120s are quite good (have both daisy chainable power and RGB) and 3-packs are super cheap for a known brand (around $40 USD)
actually for $25 @silent raptor
what's 25 dollars?
Hello All got a question here
I have a case with 3 frontal rgb fans and space for two on the right side (where mobo sits) its my second build ever so kinda new do the fan on the sides go intake or outtake? thank you!
Hi i have a question. I am currently using my 3600x stock cooler and my temps are 50ish idle and 75-80 under load with fans at max speed. Is it worth upgrading fan to a hyper 212 black edition? I don't really care that much about noise.
80c under load is fine, I’d keep the stock cooler
Also a hyper 212 wouldn't be much better anyway. Stick with the stock cooler
ok tanks
Welcome
so i am changing my case to accomodate a radiator and ill need to purchase intake/exhaust fans separatly. whats your guys suggestion for rgb fans? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ecolanning/saved/zMCtpg
Don't go Corsair unless you have $200 to spare :)
Find some cheap, decent brand ones that doesn't use a proprietary RGB hub if you can
I would like to get a in win 101c case, what AIO and fans should I get with what config?
yes cool cooling 🙂
yo anyone know nice cooling cause on newegg i find good cooling but way overpriced i found good cooling but then lost it in my cart
What type of cooling
Like "good cooling" is a very broad area. You could be referring to air conditioning for all we know
@topaz blaze Arctic F12 120mm fans and F14 140mm fans for case fans.
Usually about 7$ per fan
They're pretty good
also
the prices are a little more cause i am in CAD but thanks
these are cheaper
than the ones found
they also give 5 fans instead of 2
@low pumice Thanks
You're welcome
😄
So i was stress testing my 3600 and temps are looking pretty crispy on the stock cooler lol
It's interesting tho because my top exhaust isn't even hot
The poor guy is trying so hard 😂
ya
It'll cool down in 5 mins when the render is over
I wouldn't want to keep it at that for long
Huh? So the render ended and within 10 seconds my temps dropped to this. Pretty sure heat doesn't just disappear like that. I think my reading is off
It just stops producing that much heat
but at the exact same moment the cooler is taking away the same amount of heat
the fins will still be hot but the package would just drop in temp
what's 87?
188F
uh ok
u can cook an egg
you can cook a lot of stuff
I am still surprised that my exhaust fans weren't really putting out hot air tho
Haha, I got attacked by someone on a different (major brand) discord for converting C to F a few hours ago.
some people take their C temps seriously lol
I think they tend to forget that the average user in the US doesn't have much of a clue what hot is in C. I even told him I used both, didn't help.
But hey, they were talking about temps in the 180s, and my system runs full tilt at 105. -le shrug-
they don't care, i am from US and i know what temps are hot vs cool for my PC but if someone said "it's 38C outside" i'd be like "hot?" lol
We're the idiots who stuck with °F
I mean most the time when I was a troubleshooter I was dealing with people who really had no clue, that's the whole reason I was there in the first place.
They all thought the temps were fine, so I just left the server at that point.
Hey guys, ping or dm me if you got an answer, but does it matter which direction your aio is facing? I mean it's clearly not on a CPU right now since its not in yet, but once I pop the CPU in and place the pump as is, should it work fine? Thanks!
no as long as it fits on right. it should only be able to fit in 2 directions. If you can make the logo face the right way, do that.I believe most people have the tubes come down and loop back up but iunno.
Actually the way It looks in the PIC looks Decent to be honest
anyone have a recommendation for rgb fans
are you looking for just rgb or ARGB?
RGB
Hmm. i used to have enermax RGB fans that worked and looked really nice
saw on Amazon some Corsair ML120 3pk for around $85
Corsair has some really nice fans and the Icue software lets you do some really cool things with the lights. i had some on my last build
i have the h100i on my CPU w/ two fans right now, i really like their stuff
if i had the money to have bought enough corsair fains i totally would have
idk i dont like the lighting on the fans, but i like the light ring around the fans
I got a 5 pack of Darkflash fans for $30 off Amazon
They don’t have the ring of light though
But you can find cheap packs on amazon with a ring
Or Newegg probably
There was a really nice five pack of RGB fans I wanted, but they seem to have been discontinued.
is there any difference in cooling performance between air coolers where the heatsinks and an is like directly on the mb vs the ones where they sit on top facing out towards the rear fan? sorry if that was bad wording I dont know what to properly call them
5 pack of RGB fans go for $40 usually
@calm flint not really
Hmm. i used to have enermax RGB fans that worked and looked really nice```
@inner hamlet the SquA fans? Those are pretty good and look nice
@burnt goblet are all air coolers able to be mounted with the fan and heatsinks close to the mb? or is this a specific kind I have to look for
it sounds like what you are talking about is what is known as "low height" coolers
let me just grab a couple of pictures :)
https://cdn.happii-static.dk/Images/915x900/2636348_1a1f1eeb0234.jpg <- low height one
yup that's it, I had no idea what they were actually called lmao
NOT a low height one
the first is about 65mm iirc
and the other is 150mm
@calm flint the first one is generally used for systems that use integrated graphics, office machines etc
where you dont need/want the case itself to be very big
also, the person who tried to post a link, you cannot post a link until you get to lvl 3, its our antispam protection. IF you need me to post it for you, send me a dm
yeah but honestly I prefer the look of the low profile ones much more than air coolers with big height and kind of just look blocky to me
I just didnt knowing I'd be sacrificing cooling performance
if I'd be*
I got a phantom ping so it was probably bcarey replying to me with a lnik @burnt goblet
@silent raptor I hade these
ah @silent raptor :)
yeah it was me
i tried sending a link from newegg
Enermax T.B RGB 120mm Case Fan with 3 in 1 Remote Controller and Control Box, Halo Arc-Shaped Frame, RGB Sync via Motherboard, UCTBRGB12-BP6 - 6 Fan Pack
@calm flint depending on what you need cooled, the low profile coolers can be 100% enough
Oh the TBs aren't bad either
@calm flint you will ofc be trading noise for performance. that should be quite obvious
the SquAs have a unique look tho and move a lot of air
yeah they do look really cool
- $65 CAD for a 3 pack of unicorn vomit fans of that caliber is a very good price
gotta love unicorn vomit tho
Enermax make some good fans even if their AIOs have historically had some pretty huge problems
yeah i bought the enermax liqtech 3 before i knew the issues it had
edf\
Hi guys, I'm new in this channel and I would like that somebody help me. I bought a corsair H115i pro cooling and I can see that the fans doesn't turn on the lights
I was checking in some videos and I don't know why my fans just have a cable that is connected to the Corsair water bomb but I don't have a second one to connect to the controller
DM the link to me, I'll send it
Okey, perfect
So I doesn't have RGB, maybe they sent me different fans for this cooler? D:
oh really I thought that It has it
Fine at least now I know it
There's no problem anyway to buy two 140mm fans to replace the originals, right?
Nah
I should be exactly the same
Perfect! Okey, good decision to ask before open a conversation with Corsair/Amazon hehee
Thank you for your help 🙂
So I’ve got 3 new rgb fans. My rear exhaust fan isn’t rgb. I’m adding 2 of the fans to the top for exhaust. So I’m debating what to do with my 3rd fan. Should I swap the rear exhaust out with an rgb fan. Or should I add the rgb fan for a second fan on my cpu cooler? 🤔🤔🤔
Well I’ve moved the rear exhaust fan to the cpu cooler. About to drop in the 3 rgbs, 2 up top and 1 in back
can anyone recommend some good low profile/low height air coolers? preferable good price-performance value and of course rgb
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu-cooler/#H=14000000,98000000 <- @calm flint see the "height" option on the left
Anyone test the white Ll120 vs the black Ll120? Seems like the white have a higher cfm and rpm compared to the black. Can't find the white ones online anywhere.
My wraith stealth is not doing a good job cooling my 3600. Just rendering a video for like 10 mins puts it up to 86 degrees c
Probably gonna buy a wraith prism to replace it but is there any concern running it that hot for short periods of time?
... can you even buy a Wraith Prism separately?
sometimes
sometimes?
I'm using a eSports Duo on my Ryzen 3600. Works great - I think one thing to take into account is whether your have your power settings on maximum/balanced. Also check how you have your fans placed in your case. I'm on my second build @maiden delta
How do i see what my power settings are on. Also i have very optimal fan placement
Go to your windows search bar (I'm assuming you're on Win 10) and type in "Power & Sleep Settings"
Then, scroll down on that window until you see "Additional Power Settings"
That'll be a cause, does it hit 86 C when you're gaming? or just idle?
nope never while gaming. lower 70s at most even after a while. also its not hitting 86 while idle, its hitting 86 while rendering stuff
OH I see you're video editing--
yep
I think thats kind of normal - give it shot again with the Ryzen power settings as Balanced
Ryzen had developed 'specific' power settings for their CPUs, Windows 10 has their own specific power settings which can tax your CPU more causing higher temps
Yeah just make sure you're using "AMD Ryzen" related-power plans for your Ryzen hardware
and where do i check that lol
I see, click additional plans at the bottom-I'll send a screenshot of what it should look like
check your DMs, I couldn't attach anything
sure
air cooled gang
how much of a differnece will i see in temps going from a 240 to a 280 (with same db and same make/brand, just diff size)
not that much
how many degress would you expect
I mean depends on cpu and load but prob like 2c
not a big difference
Any thoughts on optimal 240 rad cooler position and case airflow and/or amount of intake and exhaust fans?
alright thanks 🙂
Does anyone know any good gpu blocks for sub zero water cooling?
Which is better, the NZXT Kraken X53 or X63?
@proper hollow any full nickel block or full copper can handle chilled water, LN2 idk though.
At lower temps the acrylic blocks can crack
Will acetal blocks crack as well? @low pumice
I'm not too sure, all I know is the suggestion is to go full metal, and acrylic can crack.
should I go with a die only block to avoid condensation orjust add insulation to the block?
Well I think a full block would be good for also cooling vram, I dunno with chilled water and stuff tho
What are you putting in the water to keep it from freezing?
Ethylene glycol or any methanol/ethanol based coolant will eat up most consumer pc water cooling hardware.
I was reading glycol working with most parts I dunno
But that was also a post on chillers not loop
What kind of chiller are you using? A Haiea or something?
Best to not let the coolant drop below the dew point.
If you do, build a purge box instead of insulating.
a glycol mixture most likely I plan on experimenting to figure out my best concentration
I plan on using a condenser from a old air conditioner to chill the water below 0
What's the goal here? Benching? Or for daily?
Daily
Example, friend of mine built this purge box using a chest freezer with a bed of silica beads and 3 Haiea chilers.
The build in the vid is an 8086k and two Titan RTX's I think
what temps does he run?
I mean, water is simply a far better coolant - calculate what temps you need and add enough glycol to prevent freezing.
I recommend prestone, get the one that's just ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and corrosion inhibitor
I think it was around -10C or something
gylcol is also good for anti fowling but I dont know how big of a deal that is for rads
https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cases_cooling/noctua_plans_to_release_a_fanless_heatsink_later_this_year/1
Passive time
100% ignored.
idk i never hear my noctua fans anyways :))
Do fan placement matter
Yes
It also matters which way you have the fans, because it will either bring air in, or bring air out of your system
on my pc should i flip fans?
Im in need of replacement fans for my radiator. I have been told that normal case fans aren't the same as rad fans so im looking for some help in getting the right kind of replacement fans and what you might recommend?
@copper patrol You had the Corsair watercooling right? Be careful not to add any pressure on that GPU block IO there
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MjpWwP9Sno
This is a follow-up video I made when I discovered what I believe is a design flaw on corsair XG7 waterblock. After that video went live someone commented and said Corsair is aware of the issue and if I reach out they will repair the leaking block. So I thought why not its doi...
yeah considering he already rma'd it its a design flaw in every model, not just one or a few
@dreamy jolt check out the artic f12's for a good budget friendly option
Or Noctua A12x25 for premium option
Ignored again.
Not even like I'm asking something super complicated, just can't get a definitive answer anywhere.
@lusty gulch whats your question? maybe i can help
im brand new and dont feel like scrolling
I asked if there are optimal 240mm rad case position, fan direction, case airflow direction, and/or total amount of fan.
ok yes
I know I would prefer positive air pressure to prevent dust builduo.
yep i would agree with that
buildup*
case position, people seem to say top is best, mine is in the front tho because i cannot fit it above my mobo
which is working fine for me
My case is a Lian Li, currently my Rad is front mounted, but the from is not an open mesh, however it does have open slits all down the sides, top, and bottom.
ok good to know
The top of course is open air with a magnetic filter.
basically my understanding is air comes in the front and out the top and back
as for number of fans
just as many as you can lol
Yes but right now I only have one rear fan.
same
I'm trying to decide between.
top fans are important
i would try to fill the airflow capabilities of your case
dont leave open slots
if you can
Top = exhaust
Do I get two more fans and mount them top for more exhaust, especially since my GPU is an open air cooler, and a rather beastly 2070 Super Gigabyte triple fan design that kicks off a lot of heat.
yes
Or do I move the Rad to the top and put three intake fans in the front.
well dont you have fans on the rad?
Two.
so you have to move the fans with the rad
Yes.
I'm getting more fans once I decide on the plan.
One way I would only need two, the other I would need three.
i will say it will make very little difference
if you have the rad on the front, less air will be making it into the case while more heat will come out
in theory
Which would also not give me positive air pressure.
this is better than the other way around where you have too much exhaust
So in your opinion more air in or more air out?
So move the rad to the top and get three intake fans for the front.
You need to get the hot air out...
And here's the debate.
it makes like 0 difference in reality
You could technically go all exhaust and it would pull air in from the front.
By creating more pull with exhaust year I get you.
Eh, not barely, built it a few times.
I'm not even going to justify responding to you.
well you just did
Ok look guys I just wanted some advice.
If it won't make a huge difference I won't worry about it.
^
I just wondered if it did. I know my GPU puts off a lot of heat and wondered if more exhaust might help with that.
It seems like it just heats up every other component when it's working hard and the fans for the gpu and cpu get loud, but my temps are phenominal.
I thought changing my cooling flow/adding addition fans might help quiet everything down a bit.
additional*
@dapper ether i've been thinking about getting one of the noctua fans seeing as ive heard alot of good things about them. Is there a equal version from noctua that you recommended but in black instead? as the location of the fans will be seen and won't blend so well in my case...
The A12x15's come in black and are still really good fans
If you look at their website they have a ton of 120mm options
Yeah I did look at there website but there is so many different ones I got a little overwhelmed at what I was looking at 😂 wasn't sure what the right things were and such
Whatever I get I think the 4pin pwm will be part of the specs so I can link it to my fan hub
gotcha
Appreciate the help. Seems difficult to get a straight answer on here sometimes so its nice to have someone be concise 😛
No problem man
Yo, ordered a rockit cool 9900k delid and direct die complete kit yesterday and its already shipped out yesterday ready to arrive by Wednesday at the latest 👍
Nice, are you using an AIO on it?
https://noctua.at/en/nf-s12a-pwm-chromax-black-swap
https://noctua.at/en/nf-f12-pwm-chromax-black-swap
https://noctua.at/en/nf-a12x15-pwm-chromax-black-swap
These would be the 3 im looking at given the colour can be matched to my case. Would any of them do the trick or you recomend one more then the other?

S12A's are optimized for case fans
Noctua has a guide on which fans is optimized for what
But I would put as many rads as you can in the case
And use SP optimized fans
Well i currently have a rad in there now that holds 2 fans. I might upgrade the aio to a triple rad later down the line but now right now though. So i basically just wanna get 2 new fans to go on this current rad that are suitable for it
https://noctua.at/en/nf-f12-pwm-chromax-black-swap
Well this looks like the one that would do the job but its not in stock via the amazon link it gives 🤦♂️
Yeah the F12 is a good fan for a radiator
I just gotta find a retailer with it in stock now
other then newegg and amazon who else is good to buy through?
mm of course
Any alternative brands you would recommend that would do what im in need of?
any particular model that you know of which is suited to rads
Oh wait, radiator wise, you can also look into Arctic p12, those should be ~8$ a pop.
Im not necessarily looking for budget pricing here btw. So idk if that kind of pricing is gonna compromise quality at all
I understand, afterall Noctua isn't the cheapest, but I just happen to remember the p12 fans are very good for radiators.
I am using Corsair ML 140 Pros and they work well
P12 are good choices for radiators, probably get you 80% of the way there at a much better price point
see if you can find some ML 120 Pros
the non-rgb version perform slightly better
https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/Categories/Products/Fans/Magnetic-Levitation-Fans/ml-pro-config/p/CO-9050040-WW#tab-tech-specs
https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/Categories/Products/Fans/Magnetic-Levitation-Fans/ml-config/p/CO-9050039-WW
You referring to one of these 2 @dapper ether ?
CORSAIR ML120 delivers unrivaled performance and silence by utilizing magnetic levitation technology and custom rotor design. The innovative design provides both high static pressure and high air flow.
Corsair ML120 PRO delivers unrivaled performance and silence by utilizing magnetic levitation technology and custom rotor design. The innovative design provides both high static pressure and high air flow.
Oh ok
And they would be suitable for a rad?
This fan seems pretty good but i just dont trust/know any of the suppliers
the ML120 Pros are good for rads
compare the static pressure on the Be Quiets to the ML120 Pros
or look up reviews between the 2
you want better static pressure for radiator fans
Im assuming the higher the number the better it is for static pressure?
correct
but those numbers on paper only go so far, I would recommend looking up reviews and comparisons
ok
Also in regards to the whole AIO itself. I had a little confusion on how it mouted on the top in the phanteks enthoo evolv x case. Would i be right in having it that the fans are mounted ontop of the rad and not under the rad? I would assume it be better to have them ontop so it can blow the hot air out
But then again i see people mount the fans on the underside of the rad instead so well yeah
Push or pull config doesnt make a big difference really. Some say pull is easier to clean since dust doesnt get stuck against the rad but performance wise its either way
I would recommend having the rad be an intake though so you get fresh cool air over it
if you have it as exhaust its pushing warmer air over the rad
Ive always been led to believe that i would want the rad fans as an exhaust to take the hot air out of the PC given that heat rises so it will rise away from the unit
natural convection is so easy to overcome that it really doesnt make a difference
any type of fan will easily overcome natural convection. the real important part is get the coolest air possible over the rad to take as much heat out of the coolant as possible
Ok well then i would effectively need to just flip my fans then
I am concerned ive mounted my rad in the wrong way in this case but i cant find any build guide with this case that shows the rad being installed to the top properly
Well, the rad is commonly placed on top with fans on exhaust so people can have their nice front rgb
can you not get it in the front?
front as intake and exhaust out top is pretty typical
then you can have fans pulling from front and get your rgb too
These pictures aren't great but this is my mounting
Excuse my hand in there. I was blocking the light from the cooling block interfering with the image
I was trying to do it with the fans on the underside when i put it together but i didnt understand what the right screws were for holding the rad as the heads all seemed to small
These hex screws seem to be the only thing that were suitable
Half tempted to just replace the AIO for a new one that fits the length of the case tbh
getting one that fills the whole space pleases my OCD
That's kinda why I want to do it tbh.
Well any aio recommendations for the case?
My CPU is an i7 8700k. Can't remember the LGA for that
RGB is not preferred but not against it
Or it atleast be addressable
before I had my loop I like the NZXT AIOs
but Corsairs are good to like the one you have
My current aio is cooler master not Corsair
Hmmm. I've changed the position of the fans to be like this now instead and it didn't make the clipping noise I mentioned about yesterday on boot up now
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/vTTPxr/corsair-h115i-rgb-platinum-970-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-cw-9060038-ww
Might just go all out RGB 😂
Lol, for the frames right?
What do you mean?
Oh wait
Whoosh joke over my head 😂
It looks like a good option but i cant decide if i truly like it or not. Ive always been one that just not a huge fan of RGB but now that i have the Phanteks evolv x case it almost seems like i just gotta go all the way
Imo there is a good level of rgb and then there is way too much. I like to use it to accentuate a theme, mainly using a static color
For example
Tbh if I were to do it where the fans can be seen then I would get static colour fans of one solid colour
I think with the AIO I linked I'd be able to control the fans specific colours with the icue software wouldn't I?
Yes
Anyone know if there is supposed to be a fan splitter on the x73 kracken?
I've got the 3 fans cables and this cord that I have no idea where to put
idk, did you read the manual?
Anyone have a Silverstone PF360-ARGB 94 and tried using w/ iCue?
It's likely doable with some diy ing
Like you can buy connector heads for iCue's RGB connecters and whatever Silverstone uses and wire them provided they are both three pin rgb connections
(Data, power, ground)
You just lookup pinouts and match them in an adapter cable
Some four pin ones would work two provided that they have those aforementioned pins
so not w/o some monkeying w/ it, gotcha. i will just hope that the H150i gets in stock somewhere for less than $300 then lol
If it happens to be a standard argb header, there are third party adapter cables you can buy :)
it does have the 3 pin ARGB
That first one might work
Hey guys,
i think i kind of screwed up my thermal paste that was on my cooler and want to reapply new oone. Any recommendations?

I've done some research and testing on my own since asking this, but it seems that with an open air style GPU (which most of us use) the position of the RAD doesn't seem to affect GPU temperatures but GREATLY affects CPU temperatures. When mounted at the top as exhaust it is regularly sucking in all that hot air as the GPU puts out far more hot air than the RAD does. However, if you front mount it as intake and have at least two extra fans as top exhaust, it seems to pull the hot air from the RAD in a kind of curve upwards to be exhausted, while also pulling the GPU heat straight up with it, not affecting GPU temps at all but allowing for significantly cooler CPU operation. My results are based on a Lian Li Lancool 205 case with a 240 mm Cooler Master MASTERLIQUID ML240L but with 2 masterfan mf120r argb 120mm fans on the rad instead of the stock fans, two of the same fans mounted as top exhaust, and 1 of the same fan mounted as rear exhaust. Hope this helps someone with a similar case design.
can u do any type of overclocking with the cooler that some ryzen cpus come with?
@stuck lava depends, which one?
1600 af?
I personally haven't had experience nor seen videos of it, sorry, I wouldn't be able to help with that one. 😦
I have a 980ti strix with 3 noctuas strapped on, 0 overclocking, good airflow, and still get temps around 80-83 degrees. What should i do?
Ight
Oh i forgot to add, i did
I'd be worried about my 700 series but it's a GT 730 and produces no heat
ah ok
what are the official max temps from nVidia?
Guess im ordering a scythe mugen
It seems that 83 is normal
But still a bit hot to my liking
might give off heat to other things in the computer ig
So, I'm probably getting a 3900x, and I have a BeQuiet! Dark Rock 4.
Is there a better air cooler I could use that doesn't look like crap?
cough noctua cough
black fans
buy Noctua
oh, I see
chromax.black
They make blacked out versions of the normal coolers. Pcpp would probably just show the standard model
I've seen the black ones on there
Idk then
do they not make something between the NH-D15 and the small 120mm one?
if not, how good is the mounting for Noctua? am I going to need to be worried about my board at all?
also, apparently the only one not on PCPP is the D15
yeah, probably going to have to get the NH-D15 Chromax
well, there goes another $200 lmao
Just been looking at the NZXT AIO and was quite set on a particular one until i read some comments on amazon of people saying the software for the kraken is very very bad and doesnt work as it should. Is this still an issue to this day or is it something that isnt actually as bad as people are making it out to be. I kept reading that the pump doesnt function properly without having the software which im kinda just wanting something to plug and play with very little config needed
@topaz blaze mounting on the d15 is pretty great imo :p. It might be worth looking into Nh-d15s if you have rgb ram, because the second fan might block the rgb.

I'm planning:
2 x 140mm front intake
2 x 140mm top intake
1 x 120mm rear exhaust
1 x 14omm psu exhaust
Agree/disagree? Thoughts?
@shell saddle What specs will you have?
If its a fairly light system it will not require that much fans
thats alotta fans
How much will all the fans cost?
Was thinking i could always PWM down the fans at idle.
i guess if you like the rgb its worth
but performance wise theres little benefit
@shell saddle No reason for over 60 in fans for a fairly basic chassis
2 x 120mm come with the case.
And psu 140mm is also built in
So only bought 2 x 140mm and 1 x 120mm (all $14 ea)
Maybe I'll actively use the two 140mm front intake and rear 120mm fan + psu... and keep top fans off until/if temp rises
Just get a sub 100 case, much better value and expandability
Sub 100?
yep
mesh
i have it rn
lmao amazon
building when ram comees

nice nice
^^^
@shell saddle thats an interesting setup
if ur not at a microcenter for their 20$ off deal i think 3600 is better
@topaz blaze do you think you really need that strong of a cooler?
is 85C safe?
Technically yea,
But thats as high as I would let anything run
ok
If it's 85c under load, yea it's fine, 85c idle, you got a problem.
send pic
@topaz blaze I want to keep my CPU sub 70C under all core OC and 100% load
if possible
so, 3900x, I think that isn't really overkill? Maybe I'm wrong?
nope
How good is the Noctua NH-U12s black?
@idle tiger What Are you Building?
dunno but it looks scary
memes
Ah Ok
that is a massive power strip
Wish I had a Power Strip That Size
$20/$10 each from my university surplus store
Nice
I just Bought One at Walmart that Site Flush on the Wall and Has USB ports on it.

if i send picture can someone tell me if i should rotate my fans
Sry I'm a noob but if my GPU comes with fans on it why would I need liquid cooling?
@topaz blaze I have a 6600k overclocked to 4.6ghz and never go above 65 with a hyper 212 evo
a $200 air cooler isnt necessary
You probably don't "need" liquid gpu cooling, but for OC you need good thermals and liquid is an option for those with deep pockets
You never need GPU liquid cooling, it's just OCing that might be nice
You can OC a fair bit without liquid cooling
he doesnt need to set aside that much for a cooler. Air or liquid
With good case airflow I can get up to 2200mhz (after GPU Boost 4.0?) on my Gigabyte 2070 Super triple fan design and my temps never exceed 65c while gaming. I don't think GPU water cooling is quite as necessary as CPU water cooling for overclocking but to each their own.
custom loops get you quiet noise levels on the GPU and looks. That's about it
If the GPU has its own RAD it does help with overall Thermals as Liquid can cool a little faster than air cooling but not by much since the RAD does most of the Cooling work
My loop improved my GPU thermals a lot, on Nvidia cards that just means itll boost higher for longer but not get you higher maximum mhz
Nvidia starts down clocking at 40C iirc
I put a g12 in my GPU before the loop and it did really well with a 140mm AIO
If someone was to have a 360mm radiator on the top and 3 front intake and 1 rear exhaust would it be better to make the 360 radiator intake or exhaust
I would think that it would be better to make it intake so cool air can cool it but that seems like a LOT of positive airflow.
Just keep in mind that a GPU air cooler can put out ~300 watts of heat, keep that exhaust out of any radiator intake.
Ok
So the top intake sounds like the way to go then.
Can too much positive airflow be bad in anyway?
I would assume too much positive airflow would cause pressure inside the case, maybe? Don't quote me on that though.
I have problems of my own too... my CHA Fans aren't being detected even in the BIOS... anyone have any tips? Both the mobo and fans are brand new out of the box.
@bronze relic equal intake and output creates flow, so you'd want to keep fairly balanced, ir at least make sure there are vents for air to escape.
If you lean more on the positive pressure side, then air will be taken in through (preferably) filtered fans, and not sucked in through crevices, keeping internal dist to a minimum.
positive, negative, and neutral airflows and which one is better depends on the case
@bronze relic Does your case have a button for the fans?
@spark scarab The liquid itself doesnt really help with removing the heat. It's the fact that the surface area of the rad increases as well as the airflow. On a GPU the fan pushes the air past the fins and then it hits the PCB where the air has a hard time getting out of the way. That or it hits the "L" shaped fins and also has trouble escaping. On a rad the air just goes straight past the fins without much issue other then static pressure. Fin density is also usually higher on rads as well which allows for more surface area. Plus some rads are also just larger in volume then GPU coolers allowing for even more surface area
@magic sparrow Well the liquid does help in delaying the GPU from reaching the highest temps it'll go
@topaz blaze I'm planning on all core OC on a 3900x or 3950x though? and I don't really have a "budget" if all goes as planned.
oh I didn't know it was a threadripper you were going to overclock. That's a different ballpark
Well I got the ml120 fans. Not overly impressed on there noise level ... Was hoping they would be quieter
I currently run a ryzen 2600 clocked at 3.8ghz at 1.3v with a stock cooler. After a 10 min test of cpu burner of all 12 cores thru msi kombuster and cpuz cpu stress at same time I hit a max load of 70c and idle temp of 37c. Would it be dumb to look for another cpu cooler such as air or a 120mm aio cooler? My case only allows me a 120mm rad on the rear of the case. Or just save my money and stay with the stocker cooler?
nope, 70 deg is safe and 120mm aios are generally bad
I originally was looking at aio then decided on all air cooling and the cooler I got didn't fit so had to return and just used the stock cooler. I was going to overclock to 4 ghz but didn't think the stock cooler would handle it
I have 6 120mm fans running in my case and I have the fan curve set up to kick in at certain temps but was curious about getting a aftermarket cooler
stock cooler should be fine for the 2600
i have mine at 2600x 3.9 ghz
ik its slightly better but still
Okay didn't know if I should try n get another cooler or just save my money w stock unit.
My thermal paste came could somebody help give me pointers
with what
So I got x-4 thermal paste
ok
So I know how to apply it, a tiny dot and they gave me a plastic spreader
But I have a laptop, so do I need to apply it to the GPU and CPU?
put some on the cpu and spread it around, too much isn't that bad
eh do both if you want
Do alcohol swabs that are 70% work too for cleaning thermal paste
Or 3% hydrogen peroxide
Alcohol swabs are fine, as is paper towell. Don't use peroxide for anything computer related.
I was guessing that’s a terrible idea lol
Amway!
lmfao
Yeah
Cooling or cooking
I put the fans a certain way lol
Can’t post a photo damn
@granite patrol I have my 2600X at 4.0ghz On all cores and I run a Custom Water cooling loop with a 120mm Rad and my Temps never get above 71c
I want to get a 240mm RAD so I can push it up a little further. Would like to run 4.1ghz stable but my temps got to high for my liking
240mm custom seems kinda small as well
My case only supports up to a 240mm
If it's custom, 240+120 or 240+240 is possible
No. I just have a custom loop I built myself.
Full loop or only cpu
What i mean is with custom 2+ rads in a loop is possible
There's only room for 1 240mm in my case
I have 1 120mm mounted where I can fit up to a 240mm
also why did you go custom with a 2600X+5500XT?
Cause I had the loop prior to my current build and I'm over locked on the CPU
Overclocked^^^
Damn ok
I still have to get a AM4 waterblock. Currently using a FM2 that I managed to get to fit properly
would https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F8LV1BY that, work with https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N2DQCY2 those?

So I wasn't really sure where to ask this but here goes.
I recently moved to France from the US and brought my PC with me. My PSU says it supports the 220V, and the PC boots up fine.
However, I noticed the fan noise was much louder than usual.
I ignored it for a while, and now that I finally have a proper monitor, I booted up hwmonitor to this:
I'm pretty sure my CPU shouldn't be running around 70 degrees at near idle?
No wonder the fans are so loud!
What can I do to remedy this? Why would my CPU be running so hot all of a sudden?
Could my CPU fan not be making good contact with the CPU anymore? Or would it be a Europe voltage issue?
For reference I have an i7-7700, and am using a cooler master CPU air cooler.

@twilit bane smth happened probs during the move. Is the actual CPU fan plugged in or is it just SYS fans ramping up (CPU fan plugged into CPU fan header?)? Is there something in the way of the CPU fan that you forgot to remove for padding inside the case during the move? Is the CPU cooler fully seated onto the CPU or has it come loose? Did the thermal paste get dry just simply from being old or exposure to difference temps/atmosphere/smth else? Lot o dust?
1) The CPU fan is indeed turning, so it is plugged in.
2) I have removed all of the antistatic peanuts. The fan turns fine (and makes lots of noise).
3) Not sure how to check.. the mounting for the cooler is a bit odd. The cooler doesn't move if I shake it with mild force.
4) The thermal paste is from a couple months ago, should be fine.. it was working alright back in the US.
5) No dust that I can see. It's surprisingly clean.```
is liquid cooling hard to install, and do you need special parts for it? I avoided it when I built my pc simply bcuz I didn't want to do the extra research lmao
My cooler looks sorta like this one:
UwU
🍁
@distant kernel no, just gotta install AIO water block, install AIO radiator, and install radiator fan
then plug it in
This is #old-cooling btw
So how could I check if my cooler is making good contact with the CPU?
It looks like it is, and it doesn't move around if I try to move it.
That's the only point from @magic sparrow that I couldn't check off.
you can unmount and look at the thermal paste spread
@distant kernel If You want to go liquid cooling and dont want to build a loop go with a AIO. They come prefilled and require very little maintenance other than a occasional cleaning of the RAD and fans.
I got my liquid cooling setup as a kit and havent had any problems with it leaking or anything. Most kits come with all the hardware if you want to go custom loop.
Yeah I hated that when I was air cooled. They would ramp up pretty loud due to where the room my PC is located. It gets hot in here. Soon I will be moving it into the basement.
Granted we are talking like 2 years ago I was air cooled. I havent gone back to it since. I get way better temps with liquid cooling.
@twilit bane It's prob a good idea to just remount and repaste
if you have more paste around
I remounted it, but I have no extra paste sadly.
ah that would be good whenever possible
I'm gonna repaste my d15 soon
because temps are unsatisfactory and I need the d15 off to try using my old ssd
so might as well do both
after a second cooler reseat, we're running around 50 deg idle
According to some app I downloaded on my phone, we're now running at 49dB (phone balanced on GPU next to fan).
Since I didn't think to measure before, I have no idea how much of an improvement it is.
But hey it seems better so yay.
what would be the main difference between argb/rgb?
aRGB uses 5v RGB uses 12v
Argb means addressable rgb. It means you can change specific portions of the light to different colors opposed to everything being the same color in rgb. Also it uses a 5v and rgb uses 12v
aight so its mobo compatibility?
I have a 5 pack UpHere RGB fans. They plug into their own hub and you have to use he included remote to change them but they’re really good. And they were like $30
@maiden delta upHere seems to mainly focus on ARGB. Idk about stock anymore tho as I didn't see much after checking semi-recently
More ARGB fan types then RGB for upHere
I just bought a fish tank, copper tubing and making a custom case for the fish tank with 2 480mm radiators with 3M liquid
Would yall suggest the liquid cooling or the fans?
does an nzxt g12 reduce stability on a gtx 1080 FE not overclocked? if i got a 240mm radiator? some say they work great and other people say it kills their die
all sort of insurance and warrantee is already expired. its refurb and over two years past the purchase date on newegg
NZXT g12's are super popular for GPU cooling / overclocking
It's as safe as you are careful.
how much better do you think a 240mm rad would perform over my 1080 FE with a blower? sits around 80c full load
and so loud
^ this issue was resolved
@scarlet comet g12 isnt worth it unless you already have a 240mm rad. Buying the rad + g12 is pretty pricy for what it is vs other GPU watercooling kits or Arctics custom GPU air cooler
A G12 + a 240/280 NZXT AIO like an x62 or x72 can sink 500+ watts of heat.
The microfins on those AIOs are insanely thin.
I ran XOC bios on my 2080ti on a G12 and it didnt get toasty unless I ran furmark
Would run Time Spy at about 55-60C
Still need to reflash it and try it on the loop to compare
Anyone know how to fix coolermaster cpu cooler loud noise? holy shii its annoying lmao
msi afterburner doesn't do cpu fan speed
it does gpu fan speed
you'll have to use bios to turn down cpu fan speed, or whatever software from your motherboard manufacturer @smoky rover
yo my prebuilt has a 120mm water cooler and I haven't had any heating issues so far, is it worth upgrading to a 240mm anyway? Also, if I overclock it will I likely run into any problems?
And I've benchmarked it with 3dmark and temps are fine
Not really :p
Time spy is a decent cpu test that uses some avx2
I mean it gives you a sense
ok ill try prime 95 since ive already tried time spy thanks guys
Also time
Because time spy CPU test takes like 40 seconds
Not really enough to heat up the chip for long imo
also, where could i download prime 95 i dont want to accidentally download something wack
Especially with a small aio that might not reach peak temp without a few min
yes
ok thanks guys ill try this out and see if my temps are wack
ok @idle tiger and @low pumice i just tried it and i stopped it because after about 6 or 7 minutes it hit 100C after being around 70-85 for a while
then i stopped it because im nervous lmao
Ya, prime 95 small fft is considered the worst case thermal/stability load for a reason
Logic being - if it passes that, it'll pass any real world use case
Yea so it's likely it's stable with a good temp at right now
Also forks I got smallfft working on 4.2ghz with higher voltage than 1.3
so will any actual games using 100 percent cpu do that or is prime95 an exception
you're cooking your 3800x lol
prime95 is worst case scenerio
@idle tiger it went to like 100c at 1.325v 4.2ghz
so yea
its chillin at 1.2v 4ghz iirc now
o 1.25v
lemme try 1.2v
so what is the maximum temperature a cpu can withstand without hurting itself because i cant tell if that smell is the popcorn in the other room or my pc
you usually dont wanna go above 80 as a good rule of thumb
yea this looks pretty good
Basically
in synthetic tests like prime95, anything under 90c is fine
because it's worst case scenerio
you're fine
its likely fine
k cool then that smell is just popcorn lmao
lmao
is someone making popcorn
prob
i was a little while ago but the smell sticks around
yeh
no clue
if you made popcorn, and you smell popcorn, its PROBABLY just popcorn
lol ik i just dont want to hurt my precious pc
i think it does but i wouldn't think popcorn
like anything burning will produce a smell
yea the ihs might start burning too :p
ok but if i hit 100C with my i7 8700k after 6 or 7 minutes with prime 95 after good temps the rest of the time, does that mean i need a new cooler?
I mean no
just don't overclock it
new cooler is good to have, but it should work with current cooler
okay. and if i want to overclock it, is it easy to replace a water cooler? I really don't want to risk damaging something
especially since my graphics card is right below
I mean AIOs are easy
they're closed loop
unless you somehow rip the tube apart no water is coming out lol
oh okay that might be fun to do then
do you already have a water cooler?
120mm aio
thn yeah it is closed so you should be fine
so not optimal, it came with my prebuilt which i figured would be the first thing to upgrade
but also you shouldn't be hitting 100 with a watercooler
I mean intel chip xD
lowkey forgot how to spell pour for a second
deafkid 120mm rads are tiny you know
sure water will let it stay cooler for like 3 minutes yaknow
but after the water gets hot
but to be fair i was using prime95 for a while and the temps were just fine before then until it just shot up
or sometiems piore
tf pur
it aint cooling down
iunno
so is an air cooler better to use instead then, or should i get a 240mm aio
i mean sure but, without OC hitting 100?
it was absolutely in safe temps for the first 6 minutes
and i havent had any problems until i tried prime95
so this will suffice i believe until i OC, unless it wont, you guys know more than i do
240mm aio might be good to have xD
I hate to be that guy but you didn't install it with the "remove this sticker" still on it did you?
also there are air coolers that are cheaper than AIOs that will give just as good performance
it was prebuilt
@green elbow prebuilt
yeah it was prebuilt why and okay ill keep that in mind, im down to put fans in more than i am to swap aios, but i will do either
what chip do you have again?
i7 8700k
i mean AIOs are cool, but like, if you wanna spend less, air coolers are an option too. just make sure to get a good one
i would personally rather have an AIO but im cheap lol
120mm aios are fine theyre just more expensive than air coolers for the performance
i dont really care for price, gonna get a part time job too since my school just finished, but yeah i figured an aio would be fine with the prebuilt since every other spec was good and unsuspicious,
I mean huh
70c with d15
good aircooler should do fine
I kinda thought 120mm aio would be just a bit worse than good air cooler but ehm
i heard its about as good as a decent air cooler
but a really high end aircooler would beat it
good aircoolers can outperforming poor aios
d15s is better if you have RGB ram
its like 5-10c warmer than the d15
because second fan in normal position can block rgb
huh
I thought it was a 3-4c difference
I'll go take a look
with a 120mm aio
i was using prime95
so that might have something to do with it, my temps normally are pretty similar in games
prime95 is the worst case scenario for a cpu, the less the load the closer they'll be
yuh
lol yeah well since im getting a job soon since my school is over i can buy one, try it, and return it if i dont like it.
thanks for the tips btw guys, i really appreciate how helpful yall are
Can I get some halp?
No
cri
Maybe lol
Right now it's just Corona and stuff with them having deficient 2080 dies laying around they can cut down and sell
There is a 2060KO and a 2070KO so maybe? 🤔
I mean the performance of 2060ko and how it's like a 2080
