#cpus-mobo-and-memory
1 messages · Page 95 of 1
the last is the row active time which is the amount of time it takes to properly write data
i would say pick what ever suites your builds look the most
so there like the same realistically
essentially
but i believe corsairs rgb software uses more resources if i remeber the gamers nexus video correctly
the differences are not anything to worry about
all the control software, for all the products has X load associated with it :)
i have a asrock board and the g skill is integrated nicely
some of the software is indeed quite ... silly .. on the cpu load side of things
as you rightfully mentioned in regards to the GN video
but im not ganna see a difference between 3200 and 3466 and the 2 sets im looking at bieng corsair and gskill are essentially the same?
ye
you are using which CPU ?
ryzen 2600x
3200 is plenty fine then
dope
those are the gskills?
and yes, there will be a difference when/if you upgrade to something like a 3700x later on
ye
but, not really something that should cause you to worry
not for 2-4 years sadly school took ovet the computer fund
3200 is the current sweet spot for 3000 series
it says on msi website only supported up to 3466
@wary cape not quite, 3600 (with the current prices) is imo
but again, that is a fairly contested topic :)
also its like 40 bucks more for only 400 mhz more at a low latency
im running 3000 mhz and its plently fast but i do plan on overclocking at some point
do i have to get any additional software for these and my msi board?
look up what rgb software the sticks are compatible with otherwise no
if they arent compatible you just download gskills or corsairs app to control
kk thanks
ryzen 7 2700X vs ryzen 5 3600 vs ryzen 5 3600X
the 3600x is an extra 60$ over the 3600
and shoul i be pairing these cpu's with an x470 board, or an x570 board?
@vale oracle pair 3rd gens with x570 mobos to avoid updating bios, 2nd gen is able to use both x470 and x570 without bios update. 2700x has more cores so if u stream and record and video editing/workstation go for that. 3600 and 3600x has less so use that if u just gonna game
alright, thanks for the advice
only get the 3600x if it comes with an extra free game
pb tech intensifies
lol
What's the difference between the B450 and the x470 motherboards
I'm going to be using a ryzen 7 2700x cpu
Better oc
I thonk
Personally I went x570 but you can sli x470 and can’t b450
And better oc
sli is useless tho
It is
What is sli
So it won't hurt or hinder me if I want to game and stream to use the B450 motherboard?
Sli is trash
no
Sli bad stinky poopy
sli is using 2 or more gpus connected together
but in order to utilize that, the game youre playing has to support and none do
2700 b450 is fine
Battlefield 4 does
Ok I am mainly going to be gaming and want to start getting into streaming
That’s all I know lol
My streaming setup is an rx 580 and gtx 1050 on x570 along with a 2600
then make sure you get an nvidia gpu
If you go nvidia it’s more cash money
I'm getting the ryzen 7 2700x for cpu and the gtx 1660 super for gpu
If he goes for Nvidia that also means better driver support
youll do fine
That’s a good pooter
Although getting a 2060s would be good as well
RAY TRACIIIIIIING
#betterthanmypc
Or the 2060 since the 50$ price drop
#kindabetterthanmypcalittlebit
price is totally worth a 2060 lol
my pc will be amazing soon
lmao
I have my case just waiting on my tax return to get the other parts for it
im going to get a board with 6, and im going to get a gpu, wifi card, maybe m.2 pcie, and then 3 usb cards for ALL THE USB

Want to find a good nvme pcie ssd to use
64 cores, amd epyc who?
So you're going to crossfire RX 580's and lose performance?
do you mean m.2 phoenix?
Get a wd black ez dub
Yeah the ones that slide in and screw the other side down lol
🥾
Want my windows 10 on that
yeah m.2
Do you want win 10 on it and games on other?
what size you want? or how much you wanna spend on it
Whatever would make my games load fast and smoother
ok so you want a 1tb
a big regular ssd alongside the nvme?
I play slot of ark survival evolved and that takes a lot or gb room
this is a good named brand but also over priced https://www.newegg.com/samsung-970-evo-1tb/p/N82E16820147691?item=N82E16820147691&source=region&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-pc&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-pc-_-pla-_-solid+state+disk-_-N82E16820147691&gclid=CjwKCAiAgqDxBRBTEiwA59eENzwZqzhpYBRiLfoBsrgt2IThiZ1YneTWzNWJetDmkYzGFJzzd-AAghoCWuEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Will have to search ones like that
If you value your cash money I’d get a mass storage hdd alongside that
I have a 2TB WD HDD
i personally run a 500gb ssd and then 4 tb of hdd storage where i store games, i dont have issue with loading games.
I agree!
Nice

Well off to work ty guys
np
Have a good day dude
good luck on your build
He fr didn’t even say have a good day back I’m offended
I only have 3 SATA ports on my board
it has a spot for there to be a 4th port
so it leaves me wondering if I could solder another port on there
sata ports?
I don't have the tools for it anyway 👀
like, where hdds and disk drives are plugged in?
yEs
Just get external ones
there are boards with less than 6?
My x570 has 4
blasphemy
there are boards with two

generic type boards in little old budget prebuilt systems
gross
I have a mini ITX computer with an E-450 apu that has two SATA ports, both occupied, two ram channels, and zero PCIe ports

no

it my Win7 computer
what do you even do on that tho

I went into my basement recently and found a computer with win 95
neat
it's a 64 bit computer too, so most old games don't work on it
i think i have a pc with win 95 but it doesnt turn on
And an ibm model m

That was super cool
coo
Yeah it was super dusty
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03091641 here's the computer
Looking for upgrade information? Trying to find the names of hardware components or software programs? This document contains the technical details for this product.
you probably cant even browse chrome on that thing
Gtg
lmao
🥾
you can, but it isn't great
Hey the case looks kinda nicw
the case doesn't have any expansion card slots on the back, which kinda fits with the no PCIe, but is still sad
idk what I'll do with it tbh
Did you buy one?
should probably extract all the data and give it an SSD, and then some Linux
one what?
ohhhh linux machine
idk who bought it
About linux, why is windows "better"
probably my mom or my grandpa
Or whats the difference
Windows is Windows
theres a huge difference
and Linux can be whatever you want it to be
it could be a tiny OS that can be entirely loaded into memory on a system with just 1 GB
;o
there's some people who sell smol flash drives loaded with a lightweight Linux distro, marketing towards people who have old laptops with a broken boot drive
I believe they're sometimes advertised on tv and on YouTube
so
not marketing towards the people with know-how
:p
Have a good day guys sorry I don't have data on my phone and my ride was here
Linux isn't good or bad like Windows isn't - it's just a different operating system that does basically the same thing
the reason that Linux doesn't have the exact same amount of games released on steam for it as an example
is because the installed base of Linux outside business situations is small
I’ve just finished putting together my first build... and a red DRAM light is lit on the mobo... any suggestions
Running an i7-7700
Msi h270 gaming m3 mobo
2x 8gb Corsair vengeance ddr4 2400MHz
wtf
how is that possible
but recent windows broke the os
for ex file expolrer and deleting random files for 1809 update
that is just from moving the drive from one system to the next
would you guys say 3600MHz 16-19-19-39 is better than 3733MHz 18-20-20-40
R5 3600x
unfortunately after some stress testing it seems the 3600MHz 16-19-19-39 isn't stable
so I'll just go back to the 3733MHz 18-20-20-40
that's always unfortunate
i have two mismatched DDR4 2400 and i OC'd them to like 3200, i need to tighten up the timings
THAT WENT WELL
what happened
it rebooted over and over again like 5 times then i had to power cycle twice
my timings are like 17 17 17 something according to BIOS so that's good enough
oof that happened to me. i had ram in wrong slots when i tried to oc my ram tho lol
well guys
its ya boy
Joe Rogan
back with questions
So
In NZ AMD is cheaper in the higher end of things, like Ryzen 9 etc.
However I don't have 2k to spend on a pc, and am much more of a midrange type of PC person.
As much as I'd love to go AMD, intel's i3-9100/f looks like a great choice, as its around 30-60$ cheaper then the Ryzen 5 2600.
I currently have an i7-4790 and want to upgrade so that I could have DDR4 Ram, as well as make some money off of my processor (i7 tends to be pricey) and MB.
I dont know if the upgrade would be worth it tho, so that is why I came here for guidnace.
the 1600 af has about the same performance as the 2600 for 85
plus amd has other benefits too
like upgradability and a better stock cooler
but not sure on that one
cause i dont oc
ya b450 starts at like $75
Im not really sure about the difference in price between the H310/70 and the B450
i might look into that
maybe for you man i live in NZ where its like 800$ for an RX 5700
hmm
cheapest b450 is the GA-B450M-S2H
for 110$
so uh
cheapest h310 is the ASUS PRIME H310M-K
and the Rev. 2 of that MB
Asus Prime H370M-Plus for 169
maybe ill look at amazon
pcpp is pretty useful when it comes to price checking
So I have a question about upgrading CPU and Mobo. I currently have an i5-7500 and I'm going to upgrade to an i5-9600kf or an i7-9700kf requiring a new Mobo which I am planning on getting an ASUS TUF Z390-Plus Gaming.
The question is do I need to get new RAM as well with the CPU and Mobo?
I currently have this RAM: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077Q8KWM1/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_i_3iZkEb6V3D22F
Input would be helpful, thanks. This is one of the areas I am still learning how to match up.
nope, that ram is fine
Okay thank you very much
Well, that ram is also slow for a 9600K.
2400 is good enough
Well, for gaming, it makes a difference going to 3200mhz. As in, 20-30 FPS. Difference between 2666 and 3200 is 22 FPS.
I plan on upgrading shortly but my CPU is maxing out on most of my games.
The 2400 will work but an upgrade if you can is worth it
I definitely plan on upgrading but I want to bring up the CPU first. I plan on going to 3200mhz 16gb total.
Dude my old i3 was always 100% pinned in every game I had
I couldn’t even play like medium 60 on borderlands 2
I started really noticing that CPU was pinned playing some of the more CPU heavy games.
I had an i3 8100 that I just upgraded from and it was like at 50-65% usage with a 1070
But I dont play super demanding games
GTA V, Far Cry 5, and Civ 5 and 6 are ones that I can think of there's probably some others.
GTA? Really?
My GTA fps is likely restricted by GPU
HOI4 is something I could use
@indigo linden If you're doing a mobo upgrade anyways why Intel?
@long geyser some of the games I play occasionally have had problems with AMD stuff so I'm trying to avoid them. I like the price and performance but want to avoid the possible issues.
had or has? AMD is better for the long run.
For example 3600 vs 9600k. 9600k already has worse lows then 3600 in some games. Which will only continue
I still might do AMD because there hasn't been an issue for a few months but I need look at some boards to decide.
Are these new issues just from BIOS and instability or something? They are long gone now
I don't remember it's been a little bit since I really check the details for the issues.
Looking at the boards is for seeing what will work for transferring parts.
ITX, mATX, ATX?
ATX
I'll probably look some after I get home from work in a bit but it's figuring out which CPU and Mobo that's comparable for price, I/O, and performance.
CPU and mobo for $295
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PsDFFt
Thanks, that looks like a good start I'll do some more digging around when I get home.
So I has question about ram overclocking
I’m using the Ryzen calculator
And I can’t find this tCl value it’s given me
Should I just skip it
Asus Prime Z390A or ROG strix z390-f?
Which is better?
Yeah 300 dollars for the XI hero wifi
they are the best for things that 99.99% of the buyers dont use em for
Very true
Like what ? Just curious
Hm
@fleet inlet the main problem is that people confuse "want" with "need"
people currently are on a very illogical "i need super vrm's" train of confusion
for the few few few people that actually push their hardware enough for the vrm's to matter. It is good that the option is there.
for the rest of the people that buy that hardware? they are effectively flushing money down the drain
I understand
It isn’t always easy to understand what the hardware people buy are capable of
well, yes and no
And I guess that’s why this server and others exist
people look at PR and dont engage their brains
Yeah...
and a lot the "waste of money" comes from the "want VS need" confusion :)
mind, i have nothing against people wanting something
that is entirely fine
For sure
just dont claim you need something
And that’s also what I’m trying to avoid when getting my new setup
I need food and water
if it is a lie and its merely because you want something
Avoidable waste of money
aye
Talking about waste of money, all I need is a AM4 MB that’s capable of OCing a little a 2600 and that doesn’t run too hot, I’m thinking about a Pro VDH Max MATX, is that a good choice ?
its a solid enough choice
I was thinking about getting the Tomahawk Max but since prices are very different between the two boards ..
the tomahawk will not really get you anything
Max versions because non Max versions are more expensive here where I live
aside from reddit points
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking
Since I don’t care about looks, but just perf for the buck, I think a Pro VDH Max could do the job.
generally, when your board costs as much as the cpu ... something is wrong
(IF we are talking about a regular consumer machine)
Got it
do keep in mind, there are a LOT of people that will disagree with that
aye
the main difference that people will bring up is related to synthetic benchmarks
Because some are asynthetic ?
Aesthetic?
people are convinced that they can see a difference from 5 more points in a synthetic
its (again) tied to the "want vs need"
and the mental logistics they are doing to justify their purchases
By asynthetic, I meant analytic sorry
What you mean is that people observe rather than analyzing ?
Sorry if my English isn’t perfect, not my first language 🙂
you have most likely seen people ask a question here on the server where they go: "tell me with a simple number if X is faster than Y"
Yeah
and then get ... impatient when being told that is not actually possible.
especially not if they dont give some more context
yes
that is at least helpful in actually answering the question they dont understand they are actually ASKING
So asking about something wouldn’t be relevant in all situations
if you dont understand why you are asking. Does the answer help you?
Always ask yourself this before even asking to others
People should know about this
yes, but it is not really a subject that people take all that kindly to
I guess it is yeah
mainly because to answer that question, they have to think
And that isn’t what people really like to do nowadays
and people have a tendency to avoid that like mad
Yeah
They ask to avoid thinking
And so that other people can think instead of them
I can see myself as that person 😦 should be more thinkful and careful
and this could easily be directly related to my professional life, but i have no problem with a client asking me 50 questions, because i can bill for those
it is not a "fun" time for me, but at least there is a reward tolerating it
That’s completely different
yes
but for me that is where the desire to teach people to think comes from
because i dont have any interest in being an answering machine that people blindly throw questions at
Some certain people could enjoy answering out of the box.
elaborate?
wut
no, back in the crate with you :P
ok 😦
yes, it happens here all the time
more than you know. haha
"answering machines"
people copy what they have "heard/seen" and treat it as gospel/truth
re: questions/answers: You might have seen me answer this (to the "sorry for the questions, i am not good at this etc etc" that new builders say fairly often)
there are no stupid questions, only silly answers
I dunno about that.
at the core of it, there are no stupid questions. If you truly want to know something (and you cannot figure it out yourself) you have to ask the question
if people don't think about what they are asking, i guess there could be 'stupid' questions
to an extent yes, there could be.
since they could ask everything and anything
answering is someone's will
choice is the word you might be looking for
it is your newegg duty.
volition maybe
or wegg as the kids say.
yes yes @weak hamlet, that is enough fresh air for you, you are getting all kinds of ideas now
:P
volition works too
newegg duty

mobo
asrock bios is awful lol
But idk
i would go msi, asus, and gigabyte
asus makes good boards
yeah its tasteful not to much
wdym by that
im a minimal rgb person
i dont have alot just a little only from the motherboard and gpu thats it
plus the strix mobo is like way cheaper
Oh everything except my graphics card is rgb
but no rgb strips
the only rgb in my build is just on the case
my pc also turns on during the night so i dont want to get woken up and blinded by horrible flashing rainbows
to be fair i have a gigabyte board and the BIOS is atrocious
in relation to the comment up there
My lpx memory advertised 3200 MHz but I only get that speed with xmp on
And without xmp I get Like 2133 MHz
Is that normal or no
just leave xmp on 99% of the time
2133mhz is the base ddr4 speed, every kit is like that, the speed refers to what it hits with xmp on
for overclocking (usually expensive, samsung b die ram like https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820313712 )
Are you just gaming?
somthing with wifi
uh i plan on gaming and trying to stream and some overclocking
thats my list
that mobo is definately overkill
ive been switching between motherboards and i cant settle on one
oh yea actually im going with a build of black/red led
so i cant go with that one or it will ruin the whole build
what do you think about this one sassy?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FW85VFT?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
thats the aorus i was talking about
Yee, that's a good one
but i heard it has problems with lighting andoverclocking
vrm looks decent enough but idk a lot about mobos
It probably has problems with extreme overclocking, but it's not worth your time to push a chip that far
why do you say that
Because, the farther you push a chip, the more diminishing performance returns you get
You can push a 2700x like 100-200mhz more, but it really isn't worth risking damage to the chip by upping the voltage manually
Especially for someone somewhat new to PC building
i also want to go with water cooling but i dont know much about that
so i was just like naw
Tbh tho, they all pretty much do the same thing, so get one you really like the look of, and don't worry too much about overclocking
Oh, well AIO water coolers are easy to work with
You don't need a custom loop
Yeah, an AIO is a self contained unit
So you attach the block to the CPU like you would a heat sink
And mount the radiator like you would screw in a case fan
how many parts are needed for water cooling?
wouldnt u need a pump tho
so what would i need to do one i got that
The example I sent is the whole loop
so whats the videos with people with reservoirs and pumps
That's called a custom loop
but aio is still better than air right?
Yes, some are
I gotta go to bed now, so if someone else could help, that would b great.
alright gn
anyone know a list of boards that support IF OCing for AMD?
FCLK
Or is it that Zen2 allowed for IF OCing (OC IF without memory) and most boards apart from a320 can do IF OC?
Guys i just wanted to know wether or not i should be getting DDR3 or 4 memory?
My MB supports DDR so like
?
y e s
bro my motherboard supports DDR memory
so should i get DDR3 or 4
its not hard
smh
🤔
perhaps keep the jokes to the general chat
Does anyone know of any 5 pin 12VRGBW to 4 pin 12VRGB adapter?
Not a box one that you put with all the cables
I can't find any
Is the ROG Strix z390-e worth it?
Would you guys go with a i5 9600k or a ryzen 7 3700x
for what?
??
like gaming?
or like streaming?
looks like they trade blows
Yeah I figured I would get someone else's opinion
but i think the i5 is a bit better
yep np
you can also get the kf, im pretty sure its the same just with no igpu
and that lowers the price by another $20
ok
just get the 3600
9600k(f) already struggles in some games for lows and that will continue while the 3600 doesnt
ya actually looking at some more benchmarks, the i5 is about 10 fps higher but with lower 1%s, and it comes with a stock cooler so ill take the L and agree with Hei
ok thank you guys for helping me
What you guys think of a 3800x 32gb 3200mhz and a 2070 super
hot 😳
hmm common i guess since everyone almost had 2070 and 5700 xD this year.
but 3800x is kinda diff
i see ryo had 3700x
do you know why this would be happening
is the x570 aorus master a good choice for around 400 usd
if you actually need what it offers and want to pay 400 for those things. yes
(you could pay half for a x570 board with a few less features)
i was also thinking about the msi x570 unify
@spring terrace look at what you actually need, then buy a part that fits that.
unless you are willing to come on record as saying/admitting that you "want" the auros master board?
just please, for your own sake, dont confuse "want" with "need"
Also you might want to say what CPU you have
those boards could make sense with a 3950x, but not smth like a 3400g
msi unify is a really solid board
but yeah unless you have a oc’d 3900 or a 3950x, I wouldn’t spend more than $180 on a board
the asus tuf x570 board will suit pretty much any of the 3rd gen ryzen cpus without a lot of the frills
depends if you OC or not. Even a lowly tomahawk b450 can support a non OCed 3950x with some airflow over the VRMs
i kinda forgot about this, i want to go for a 3700x
Im sure this question is asked a lot, but AMD intel?
are there any real advantages?
depends on the budget and use case
for anything under $500 or if its used for production, amd
amd comes with a halfway decent stock cooler, so that saves $20 right there, more cores for less most of the time, usually about the same performance as intel for less money
so unless you are really trying to push as many frames as possible with a 9900k, usually amd is better
Hey guys having issues with my new build.... I'm able to boot up and have everything act normal but about 1-5mins doing any random task my screen will just go black and not have a output to my monitor. This task every happens when browsing chrome and I tried reseating my ram but that didn't work... Any suggestions?
The system remains on and lit up with no error codes
is your bios compatible with your cpu? something similar happened to me when i upgraded cpus and forgot to update the bios
Is it normal for my cpu’s temp and utility to fluctuate randomly when idle. The only background process i can think of is msi afterburner but sometimes its maxing out at 4.7GHz when idle and temps up to 65.
should i enable xmp?
If you have adequate cooling, why not?
what is adebquate
Is it stoxk
11
Mk one sec
Im not very knowledgeable on that cooler
i never had heat issues
Have you oc'd though
oc'd what
Your cpu
no
@brazen wedge IF your system is stable with XMP, enable it
generally there is not a downside to it
where can i find the xmp on asus bios? @gritty meadow
@brazen wedge look in the manual for your specific motherboard :)
In my experience, the manual isn’t that helpful
@twilit mica it has a rundown of all features of the bios.
Was wondering if anyone can provide some advice. I recently built my (AMD) PC on January 13th. My motherboard is the MSI Gaming Edge, and I have two 16Gs of DDR4 RAM. I put the RAM in the slots correctly, but for some reason the automatic setting for the RAM is 2133 mgs. I have 3600 in total, and when I manually changed it to 3000 mgs, it was fine. However, going to 3600 completely always causes a Video Scheduler Error. My GPU is backed by the 2060s, so I don't think it's a graphics card error. Also, I cannot use the X-AMP or the Game Boost, for whatever reason, Doing this will consistantly cause a video scheduler error whenever I use a lot of RAM.
Sorry to dump all the info at once.
which slot is the ram in
I believe they are in both the A2 and B2 slots.
1, 2, 3, 4 usually should be in 2 and 4
which mobo model specifically
If it is 1234 in the order going away from the cpu, it is correct
also what i the ram specifically
Hmm, let me see if I can check. Not very tech-wise, but I'll try to provide info.
That's the BIOS info on the RAM
are you sure your ram is 3600mhz?
Nearly positive.
I believe so.
Yes according to the pic
cause i had that issue and i had it in the wrong slots
Did you try it in 1 and 3 just because
Not yet, I initially moved them to see if that was the problem.
It just has problems utilizing the full MHZ of the RAM, I believe.
What brand is the ram and if you know, what brand are the memory chips
Let me go and check.
Ight
Do the labels say 3600 MHz?
on the memory it will say on a label
in the b450 tom max what satadata ports are controlled by a native chipset
considering there are only 4 sata ports, all are native @wet storm
port 0, always
Um there is 6 sata ports
get asus instead
@wet storm the block on the right is native
Normally for M.2's port 5 and 6 would be closed

they are in a potentially shared bond with the m.2 port
as i said, port 0 is your friend
ah shid
I see
i think i plugged it in som other than port 0
it doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things @wet storm it is just a good habit :)
ok thx
you are very welcome
What cpu would be a good fit for a 2070s ? Currently have a 2600x. I would like to upgrade soon (either intel or amd. It doesn’t matter to me)
you're probably doing just fine with the CPU you have
if you're just talking about "is it enough for the 2070S?"
if you really want to upgrade buy yourself a 3600 for $200 and make sure your motherboard's BIOS is upgraded fully before you install it
i assume you have a B450
just because everyone does pretty much
Yes I do
have you updated your BIOS?
your motherboard's manual should tell you how to do it
if you have a maxed out BIOS and double check the CPU support for that BIOS on the manufacturer's website
you should probably be able to move forward with a 3600
literally just remove cooler remove CPU and if you have a stock cooler just put the new CPU in and put the new cooler on top of it, it's already got the thermal compouind
might need to clean old thermal paste off old cpu if you want to do anythin with it
well yes
i was just suggesting an easy way to do the install
can clean up afterward
I gotchu
my hyper T2 is performing quite abysmally by my standards so i'm considering applying the wraith spire to it
you wot
I have fully updated bios and it’s the prime b450 plus
okay excellent
if you want to upgrade, just buy a 3600 or if you're feeling really saucy grab a 3600X
but your CPU isn't holding back the 2070S
so don't feel rushed
in fact the 3600/3600X are going to be very minor upgrades
Ok I’ll hold on for a bit then try n go better than the 3600x
yes that's an excellent idea
your board is likely capable of a 3900X
or 3700X is more sensible
if you wait for 4th gen to come out, you can even probably score a 3700X for $150 or a 3900X for $300
(that is speculation based on how the last gen went)
Excellent I’ll do that thanks!
is there a differnece between the tomahawk and the max or is it just 3rd gen ryzen support
hmm
I’m planning on building a new PC with a 9700k. Is the lack of hyper threading gonna bite me in the ass if I have a couple programs like chrome or discord running in the background while gaming?
If I were you I’d go with amd, you don’t need that many cores for gaming but if you are recording or streaming or doing anything in the background It definitely helps
If literally all you do is game on your computer intel is better
Yeah I don’t really plan on streaming
Or you can go 3600 and spend a bunch more on the GPU
I’m already going to buy a 2080 Super
Get the ti
I don’t really want to drop an extra $400-500 for like a 10% improvement in games @twilit mica
darn the 1600 went up to $100
Is the 1600af really any better than the 2200g for games?
as a cpu? its 6c/12t so id say yes but id have to look up some benchmarks
its comparable to the 2600
Just gonna say the 1700 is fantastic and very close to the 2700
@misty totem core for core it would be close but performance it wouldn't
Well yeah it off by like .2 or 3 base ghz
@obsidian lagoon If you're able to find like a Ryzen 5 1500X for dirt cheap that would still be better than the 2200G in CPU performance only
if buying a CPU to have a iGPU the 2200G/3200G and 2400G/3400G would be the better choices
I have an r5 2600 it is good
what kind of mobo do you need for a 1660ti 2x a i7 8700x build and a lot of fans and cpu cooler from nzxt
rephrase the question @viral knoll
the 2x part does not make much sense to me at least :)
:)))))))))
idk why I should ask you again I think I'm being disrespectfull to you @gritty meadow because I ask everytime and I still dont get my answer I'm really sorry for doing this
Nothing to be sorry about @viral knoll
you have questions, we hopefully have answers
you are not the first, and you will not be the last :)
well idk I have so much Ideas but idk I wanted to get a pc for myself than I am thinking of a guest pc and a normal pc like what is my problem:(
re: what your problem might be: that is for you to figure out :) just keep asking questions :)
Reason: Bad word usage
what word was it
anyway idk I saw a friend who had a cool gaming setup but
idk man I just want a cool looking or good looking pc with the stuff I need
@gritty meadow 😦
you had a nice setup going last we talked @viral knoll
Idk does he need the xl
that looks like a "reddit loves this" build
And at that price a x570 is easy
@viral knoll rememeber! when we talked, there was a bunch of limits on where you wanted to buy parts from
but is this setup good?
what was available in your region
true
and those ssd's? nope
someone also made a server that cost a couple of million.
there is always someone that has made something else
also, just on the base level, lets compare what you linked with what i talked with you about
okay
8core vs 12 core
16 vs 32 gigs ram
450 chipset vs 570
1tb 2.5 inch ssd + 1 tb 2,5 inch ssd vs 1 tb nvme + 2tb 2.5 inch ssd
2080ti vs 2080super
550w corsair cx vs 650w seasonic prime
okay I get it
Yeah idk how many people actually use a 2080ti as much as they can
Lian Li 011D XL vs Corsair 280x
the worst part is that the 2080ti build costs as much as the 2080super build
LMAO
and i am limited to 1 specific retailer
in his region
so no.
that build is not a very good idea
2080ti is more for person wanting best and don't care about price
(for the lurkers, the region is very ... odd... with availability)
i would happily (personally) take a 2070super and get the rest of that system)
because ram+storage+cores are that much more relevant imo
so what now
Yeah I was gonna spend a ton but then asked myself if I really needed that good of a pc to enjoy it
And I didnt :)
@viral knoll you attend a "make a decision/commitment" class/course.
then you spend a bunch of money on a machine
and then you game happily for the next X years
yeah
and please tell that person who linked you that, they are not qualified to make builds
oh, thats right, you are the one that wanted the 280x because of specific looks. hence also the AIO that is in the build i made for you
which IF i can take that out, things get even more skewed in my favour
so what do you mean
because first you said get a 2070 super and upgrade everything else
no. not what i said.
please go and have a read of the pm chat we had :)
the reasoning should all be there
okay
Asus rog Zenith extreme x399 with post code 00 any ideas
question, is the z390 mobo series bad at all? currently running a 2600, MIGHT oc, and might wanna upgrade cpu in the future on the same chipset
Wait like the ryzen 5 2600?
Lol all good
oh
i was thinking maybe this
Intel® Core™ i7-2600 Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz) quick reference guide including specifications, features, pricing, compatibility, design documentation, ordering codes, spec codes and more.
i was like
i havent heard of the z390 and thought it was just the "before b450" series mobos for am4 xD
yeh i know tht now lol
gimme 9900k
no im looking at cheap but full atx mobos with a bottom pcie slot that can fit gpu
so i can verticle mount and not lose pcie
yeh but
that you can fit around your other pcie things
i want bottom one to keep it out of the way as much as possible
cause i dont wanna have to go around the other ones
meh
Get a Mobo with WiFi then
so if i get a ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard, and which is for up to 2nd gen am4, but i update the bios, i can use 3rd gen later on, correct?
correct
if in doubt, have a look at the cpu support list for that board @crude path
wondering if anybody can help.... today im trying to install more ram on my MSI laptop... got it open put the new ram into place and turned it on and its not recognizing the new 8 gigs i put in. trying to go from 8 - 16 gigs. i made sure to get all the same specs as the original one thats in there. 8 gigs, DDR4, 2666 MHz. ran a memory diagnostics check and it found nothing. Any ideas??
Hey fellas quick question.
@crude path just bought an asus x470 prime mobo and wants to know if the last pcie16 slot is still fine for a gpu. Idk how to look this up lol
@inland river you sure the ram compatable?
Yeah it is compatible. I figured it out. Had to switch them around in the slots
Interesting
The new one had to be in slot A for some reason.
I'm eyeing this asus amd 570 crosshair xiii (WiFi). Currently my mobo is a SUS ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING AM4 AMD B350 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD. That being said....may goal is to replace my cpu with a ryzen 9 3900x. With these new processors is having a decent motherboard important?
there is decent, and then there is overpriced because of features you will most likely never use
@wispy dirge also, in theory, IF you update the bios on your current board, it actually can support the 3900x
just scroll down to the bottom of that list
number 5 from the bottom
Also note, ROG is a name brand that generally is pricier for what you get anyways. With the fact you're then adding features that you're paying for but won't use on top of that, you're throwing away a lot of money unless you found some great deals
With no OC and a little bit of air going over the VRMs that b350 board can handle a 3900x. If you plan to OC you'd want a fair bit of air going past them VRMs
@wispy dirge
yeah the ROG tax
Can someone help me with a mobo question
if you ask it, we can try :)
Thx. So I had this prebuilt for a while and I recently did a case swap. All is good rn, however I wanted to upgrade my cpu. I have an i5 6400. 4 cores at 2.4 or 2.6 ghz I think. The new ryzen 5 series just looks so good tho so I want to get a 5 3600. Obviously I need to get a new mobo. My question is whether or not swapping the mobo and cpu will mess up my installation of windows
in theory yes and no
the activation will most likely complain
(depending on what kind of license type you have, that can be easily fixed)
aside from that, it should not complain, when you have the drivers etc installed
however. it is NOT a swap i would recommend doing without a fresh windows install
Ok so best case scenario. I can switch the mobo and cpu and plug all my drives and gpu and such in and I'll be good for the most part
Ok so you would do a clean windows install
yes
you are not forced to do one
but i dont know the details/state of your windows.
so the safe recommendation is to tell you to do a fresh install
does that make sense?
Makes sense. I got my pc from bestbuy so I'm sure the windows that was pre installed is legit but I've been told in the past that a clean install is a good idea
aye
How would you go about that. Like with all your files and data that's on your boot drive
also in regards to the proposed swap. Your current ram (if it is the stock type that normally comes with that cpu (i5-6400), it is quite slow.
it wont prevent the 3600 from working
but it is not going to be optimal
that is all
Ya it is but I got a big cooler master cpu cooler on and I would need to get the most basic ram which isnt all rgb and such so that's why I havent done it yet
re: fresh windows install: Backup what you need to save. Either into the cloud or to an external harddrive.
Ok makes sense. I might also consider getting an m.2 drive because the mobo I'm looking at has one
okay, what i would recommend you do, is either list all your parts OR your budget OR both :)
and we can try and figure something out for you
going by it piece by piece is the slow way around :)
Ok so this is my current specs.
16gb ram (slow)
Gtx 1060 6gb
Core I5 6400
Mobo is a custom one that comes with Asus prebuilt. I dont have much details on it.
500gb ssd (primary)
1tb Toshiba hdd (backup)
My budget is like 150 for the new mobo preferably
And then the ryzen 5 3600 is on sale rn I think
you are in the US right?
depends on your budget for it
how much total do you have for the mainboard + cpu
dont worry about it being on sale, just list a number
Let's say 350-400
do you need wifi?
I have ethernet so it's not that important rn
I can always get a pcie wifi card down the line
Pretty much. Gaming is the main performance draw
okay, do you know what PSU is in your current machine?
Ya I just upgraded it with my case swap. It's a corsair 650w semi modular.
okay, just for the sake of curiosity, could you find the model number for me?
Ya one sec
thank you
Np ty
how does this look for you @tacit hemlock https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PbYDk6
and dont worry about the warning at the bottom
that is not relevant for that mainboard.
that board has wifi btw
might as well grab it while you upgrade the mainboard
I mean if we didnt get the m.2 rn could I get a bigger mobo, (maybe one with rgb lol)
that is visual over performance
which imo is a very bad trade to make
the moment you dont care about the budget, then you can go visiual
Ya... but I also dont like the small mobos
Cuz I got a monster size cpu cooler and my gpu is decent sized. I dont like having all that weight on it.
Lol
nothing to worry about.
Does the mobo u sent me have rgb headers for my current setup
i have a number of itx boards here, smaller that the one i linked you.
you didnt mention anything about rgb earlier
so why would it?
My bad on that
What about this one on newegg? ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
if you scroll down to the connector part
