@steel smelt ok i have friends who argue over this same thing, i am a nvidia person myself. but the pick between amd or nvidia is all on what you prioritize, nvidia has its rtx and other things but its good with everything, amd gpus are like intel. they are amazing with gaming, top tier but fall lower with anything else. so if your a hard core amd gaming fanboy. go radeon, if your going to stream and do other stuff go nvidia. but also consider your budget. i would also wait for youtubers and other people to get the benchmarks because paper is always better than person

@hardy wind yeah man, I've been going back and forth on the two a lot. For example, even though the Radeon has more Vram and syncs with my CPU, Nvida has better raytracing and historically more stable drivers.

Is anyone here getting a Nvidia kernel mode driver crash where 'the display driver has crashed and been successfully restarted' showing up in event viewer even when not using the PC (e.g. it's just random)?
It's not the PC hardware, motherboard, or PSU, it's driver related, but I wondered if anyone else is getting it here (it is fine on linux and the GPU is functional and can run 3D games for hours, it usually crashes when on the desktop).

@rugged crater You can often snag a used Radeon RX 470/480/570/580/590 for the price range (or even a little less), on the used market if you're willing to take the chance - try to pay a little extra for the 8gb version if possible. It's enough to get decent details and good texture quality in most all titles, though they're far from 'enthusiast performance' they won't break the bank. For new, try to save up for a Radeon RX 5600XT or a Nvidia Geforce 1660 Super / 2060 / 2060 Super depending on what you can save up. Keep an eye out for sales as many retailers are running black friday type deals all month long, apparently due to the virus.
A 1650 Super is good if you must have new (Avoid regular non-super 1650, it's a stinker), but be aware that you're buying a new card that's not much any better than a RX 480/570 8gb card, and you won't often be able to max textures out on newer games if you only have 4gb of VRAM. You will find better value on the used market, but before buying, DO check return policies of the site. I will not list site names due to terms and the fact this is a Newegg forum/discord thing.
