I upgraded the RAM and swapped out for an SSD. A fresh install of Sonoma with OCLP had issues with the system freezing up and needing to be hard power cycled often. I also tried wiping the hard drive and doing a fresh install of Big Sur, Monterey, and Ventura but they all seem to suffer the same freezing issue where the OS becomes unresponsive. For what it's worth, I tried installing the root patches via OCLP for each of these operating systems but it didn't seem to make a difference.
I went ahead and erased the disk and installed Catalina (the last supported OS for this hardware) and I haven't encountered any freezing issues. I'm not sure what's causing the freezing when running the unsupported OSes with OCLP, but I'm wondering if anyone has seen similar behavior as it doesn't seem to be tied to a specific OS.
