So I am currently running Mac OS Big Sur with legacy patcher by Open core. Everything is patched, everything works. Can I just upgrade through system preferences to ventura or do I have to go through the installer patching process again?

Depending on what hardware you're running on, you may want to install Ventura to a blank partition in case you find it doesn't perform to your liking

thanks, I hear what you're saying. I've got a 12 core mac pro 5 1 though with vega graphics though. This is now a secondary machine instead of a primary so if i have to wipe it, so be it, I have a CCC backup anyways.

I'm not so worried about how it performs as much as I am about if the upgrade from big sur to ventura via system preferences system update is a supported workflow that is known to work or if we already know this doesn't work and I need to use a patched installation via usb.

Wondering also, do I need to update my opencore bootloader before upgrading as well

It's recommended to upgrade the bootloader yes

I suspect you'll run into issues using the System Preferences updater to install Ventura, it's safer to use a usb drive
