Hi! I work as a Graphic Designer and have freelanced as a comic artist on the side for about a decade. I'm now am trying to make a step over into the games industry.
Since I have no direct experience I've been trying to make some pieces for my portfolio that show my transferrable skills. I put together this set of concept art for a witch character and her familiar (Miriam the magpie) based on a character art portfolio guide you guys shared in one of these chats a while back.
I also then made a set of assets, using Molly and Miriam, and a guide in Figma for a simple 'Flappy bird' style mobile game where you steal other witches flags to score points (and avoid getting your stolen!), based on Flyer Derby from The Owl House, both in concept and style. 🙂
I'd really like to know if you guys think this makes a good portfolio piece for someone trying to make a lateral step into this field, and if there is anything else I can add to this to improve it's viability? I've had a few interviews and tests, and while I've had some helpful feedback from the recruiters, I still haven't quite nailed it - so I'm hoping looking to grow and demonstrate my relevant skills through projects like this.
I learned a lot from making these pieces, and I'm planning to start animating the 2d assets in Spine next.
