Here's a badly made map that might help with planning out your front room!
It helps to not see your Front Room as just one single room (because the four doors to the room challenge that picture), but to instead imagine it as two seperate Rooms, some items at the entrance, and paths between the rooms.

Maybe try using another type of wall (brick, wooden or something that makes it feel more cozy. Also try to get more dark items such as the trophy case (great for putting the bug and fish trophy on top of it), a darker fireplace (or the turkey day one) and potentially some cardboard boxes and spider webs to make it feel more "dusty".

I love the colors! They look so cozy already! A great thing I've seen people do is use certain items to create areas in the room that are separated, like using the bookshelf to separate out a seating area. Not everything has to be fully against the wall. And also, maybe not make the rug flush with the wall? I'm not interior designer though, so I'm sure others may have better advice. 😅

i have found that if you focus too much on a single theme the island might become too dull.

mine just started as a small town hub around the resident services/airport/museum, and then expanded to have some themed areas. From the town you can access a seaside curb, across which you'll get to a beach from which you can access an old park where's the haunted house. going from there you can go to the hills where there's a japanese themed inn, then into the camping park, up to a fancy neighbourhood that overviews a bunny-day themed park, into a cottage-core farm

basically, just make sure each area has a set colour scheme and furniture style

and think of the island not as a space, but as a story unfolding

You can get posters for the villagers on your island by going to Harv's island and placing them inside the house at least once. Then you can order the posters from the Nook Shopping app.

Framed pictures are random gifts from villagers you've achieved maximum friendship with.

Yes!! Good thought. I meant to hang some, I have 3. The wallpaper actually has cobwebs all around the trim but they aren’t as bold as the individual ones you can hang.

I put signs and plaques above the shelves, as a way of indicating what the books in that shelf are about (in this shelf, you find books about fishing, that's why there is a fish plaque above it, and so on)

It already has a nice layout! I have made a simple Layout Plan that might help with designing the room, but yours already looks really good, I especially love the TV part in the top left!
Maybe you can add some more music items to the top right, like an instrument?
