@paper tendon I've flattened and worked in sections before and I like the latter; it gives u a smaller area to work with so it's less stress and u can spend time earning money in between if. Flattening is worth it tho if ur trying to terraform lots of cliffs/big cliffs

I've flattened my entire island and rebuilt from that, and tbh I regret it a lot.it seems like a waste of time to flatten cliffs when your next project had a cliff there anyway. I would definitely plan ahead instead of flattening everything in the future. That being said a flat island gives me tonnes of space to expand my flower inventory and I can trade flowers freely Now xD

Making rivers natural takes a lot of time and effort; I always look at my map as I waterscape and it helps with gauging/building the natural curves
