@dapper tartan honestly just try not to stress so much just know u can always change areas if u don’t like them, I know I’ve changed heaps of areas. My recommendation and the thing that helped me most was starting from the back and slowly working to the front to make the best use of space or u can start from front and work your way back, I also worked out my villagers area and stores, museum before really starting

I prefer flattening out your island as its easier to manipulate a blank slate. I have the most motivation to develop when I dont have to think about demolition.

@woven drift I've tried it both ways, with flattening my island completely the very first time I got terraforming and imo I think working in sections works better than having a blank slate! It's mostly bc I'm lazy and like to do chill things in-between (like fish lol) but when you work in sections you don't have to worry about putting everything in storage +moving every flower and villager house in one go. And if that section doesn't pan out it's easier to fix/go back to what you had before

Yeah I think working in sections is optimal but when an Island is flat I find it's a lot easier to motivate myself to expand and also having more room to terraform freely is good for learning terraforming

the island is also huge so like flattening it will result in parts being empty for weeks on end, maybe the best course to go about is flattening out quarters of the island at a time so there still stuff around to feel like you have an island?

Came across this on Pinterest and want to share since people (like me lolol) are always wondering what else to build!

@scenic herald since the guide lays out materials around the crescent shape so you can dig a pond inside, you just have to do the opposite if you want water surrounding land. Fill the inside (either by outlining the outside first, then filling the inside with a different material or dig holes and then take the outline away so you can waterscape around, or just look at the dimensions and do a quick subtraction and fill the inside). It might be harder if you already have a bridge placed tho. Can you post a pic of the area you're working with?

Oo yeah unfortunately there's just no guides to go step by step for crescent shaped mini islands so the best advice I can give you is to just start waterscaping (starting from the two ends of the bridge) and making an outline directly with the tool instead of trying to lay out objects :/

Deep enough trees with bushes will hide anything, just make it 3-4 deep at least

@hexed delta my go to is always some kind of seating area, you can never have too many of those (and your villagers will still sit on the ground 🙄), otherwise think about what you would normally see on the side of a street, vending machines, streetlamps, phone boxes, food stands etc

Tall stone lanterns might work too, but are more bulky and "spooky" in a way, might not be quite what you're looking for.

To make my island more windy I’ve been adding these structures that I call “land cakes”. They are basically tiers of land with waterfalls, bushes, and flowers all over them. If you make a lot of them/place them close together it will help! My other suggestion would be to add lots of trees

@iron coral id say terraforming is good because we can shape our island the way we want. But if you dont want to use it its fine, its your choice. Mainly people use paths that come with the island designer app, since they appear on the map

@woven drift id start by just sorting your market and adjusting it to the way you want. Take your time with the three star rating

@iron coral you could flatten everything and throw all the houses on the beach and then start terraforming & decorating before moving the houses back to a spot you like, or you can work in sections (like 25% at a time) and then once you finished the section you can move some houses there if applicable. I like the second way since it saves bells and it makes my island less empty and cluttered at the beaches

You could do something similar and have flowers surrounded around the area with the different bee models placed around between flowers! There’s also some super cute ones using the simple panels and custom designs if you have the space such as the second picture! (Both not mine)

@iron coral I'd suggest to visit some dream islands with natural or cottagecore themes to see how they place paths. I don't use any ver of The Path but the more winding paths I've seen are 2 wide pathways & you'd really just have to keep practicing to get a hang of how the curves work in each slot.

You could probably do both by type and color. You know, a row of red roses, row of blue, etc. When finished with that, move on to the next type of flower. Or you could line up one type in one color and line up different types of flowers in the same color right next to it for a broad rainbow effect. And, you know, so that it looks uniform.

if that doesnt help and you really do not like how your rs is positioned, it doesnt hurt to reset, i’ve reset my island for many reasons and one of them was for because my rs was too close to the airport

don’t overthink it too much and take your time, if you have a gut feeling about smth you want to try then do it!

Ok I need help on deciding something,
I named my island Klyntar (the planet of the symbiotes) and I want to do something symbiote related. My brother suggested that I do two giant venom eyes at the top of the island (so when you look at the map you will see two venom eyes) but I wanted to do something along the lines of a symbiote being loose on the island with a crash site and it shows that something broke out. What do you think would look better?

Try using terraforming to make a giant hole with the Rope Fence/Barbed-Wire Fence around it. Try adding some 'burnt'-esc designs on the ground as well as some evidence of violence. Add the asteroid around or in the middle of the hole if needed

@void gorge It depends on your preferred island design but id recommend adding trees around, some bushes, more flowers and some fences around the border of the area. Add tea sets/Plates/Food/Drinks on the tables. Im not sure if youre going to make a restaurant near or a type of food market, but if youre not id recommend doing so, to add more context to why the dining area is there.

Yes, having over 15 dropped items (whether on stalls or on the ground) will count against your island rating. Maybe you could do a different stall then, something that represents your island? like a flower stand featuring your native flower or something like that

So now (restarted island) I work with what the island gave me plus the ideas I got. I first worked from the entrance to the left and it's still going because I got Terraforming a few days ago.

typically you either want rs centered with your entrance and decently far away, or completely away from the entrance and far away @barren mesa although in all honesty any rs location can work out well, also focus on the beach rock formations, the island inlet, secret beach location and as well as the river mouths.

Like I said I wouldn't recommend flattening the whole island because it can overwhelm you. I'd say start from one point and work from there.

@barren mesa it's all pretty subjective but a good majority of folks like a RS that's far or out of the way for a grand entrance. Some do like closer ones tho so they have more space to terraform other things. I'd also pay attention to the rivermouths, a good amount of ppl struggle with double south

i chose a random spot to put the museum and kinda decided 2 where to move it like 2 months after terraforming was unlocked after rly seeing what i liked/disliked about where i had it then

i realized i didnt like it far from res services-- i felt it looked slightly outta place as just a random building w no other buildings around it

so my advice is if u dont feel like ur gonna b able to pick a spot for a few months honestly just drop it wherever, its not 2 pricey to move again

yeye it helps to not b overwhelmed by planning out little chunks of the island, then figuring out how to connect those chunks after uve built them ig

eg "i want a picnic area. i also want a nice lake viewing area. and then to top it off, i want a market area"
so i wld put the lake viewing area and the picnic areas closer to each other separated by a little forest maybe, and then move the market next to the existing shops

and then fiddle w it after i c what it looks like

and its a lot easier 2 plan what chunks u want after looking at pinterest / what others r doing

@icy flint I’m doing it based off this mostly. I created it to help me out..but I’m thinking I could put a whole bunch of the gold series stuff in front of her house because her interior is supposed to be that but she’s my first villager so she’s gets the basic house

with henrys you can maybe make it into a library/ writing place for henry, and i think the hair salon is a creative idea

^^ i agree, since u have a cliff right behind their homes, you can even make a 2 floor library by placing wooden stairs and using wooden flooring from nook mile shop, having some nice sofas, bookcases, and like a fireplace or something on the bottom part, and then more bookcases on that second level

@hexed yew I don’t think it’s a very good idea to make your Airport fit a certain season. Seasons aren’t permanent like your Airport color.

yeah when i started, i reset to have a yellow airport because it was really important to me, but i didn't worry about the layout/fruit so it didn't take me that long. i know it's tough wanting a certain colored theme though, but if you've gone on this long then i would probably consider sticking with that island. you could try and incorporate blue items/decor around the airport then transition into your autumnal theme from there or just ignore the airport color all together
