@austere nimbus the unrounded cliffs are a little more difficult, as that's where it slopes off to the beach. I'll grab a photo to show you, but I'll definitely see how it looks with and without rounded edges

This is my beach entrance. I used one of those further out going "grass edges" along with waterfalls with rounded corners. And with pointy corners I usually use lights or bushes

Anybody an idea why its not spawning? It will spawn literally anywhere else perfectly fine when I clear up some space somewhere else. But it will not, what so ever, spawn here. And I don't get why. There is no building or cliff near by and it worked perfectly fine for the other 5 rocks.
I also removed the young bamboo tree now. So a 5x5 tile spot is free, the shouldn't be any reason for it to not spawn there

One of these two mannequins, or both, must've prevented the rock from spawning. I removed the mannequins and placed random items in all open tiles (regardless if rocks can spawn there or not, like too close to water) and that finally worked

Its not a dark forrest. But maybe this could help you. You could swap out the fruit trees for cedar and add more neutral bushes, less flowers to it. Theres an exploit video on yt on how to get trees on cliffs

how about you add some zen fencing direct besides the wooden fencing (walls for a smalltown feeling), then some trees and greenery to "break" the view between the walk path ans the side of the shop. Thus the benches and bushes would be moved a bit closer to the walk path instead of being so "disconnected"

My villagers have a side yard one square wide and about 3 to 4 squares long and then the front yard sort of blends into the forest surroundings. The side yard is just big enough for one item that works for that particular villager in one of their two favorite colors. I also match flowers to one of their colors as well

It took me forever to decide. If you can't thing of anything or decide before you start, how play a bit, experiment with paths, check out what ingame items, colors etc you like. Gather those and maybe a theme or two will start to emerge. If not, check out themed islands, youtube has some reeeally great showcases.
Either way, if its your first island, stick to what you personally like and enjoy, makes decorating way easier than forcefully trying for a certain theme ^^

@narrow lynx Some good advice I would say is do what you want- focus on that first, and then eventually your island will get better. I was a 3 star and then I did a lot of stuff that I wanted to do and next thing I know I had a 5 star.

ahh okay. since you aren't too far along I wouldn't worry about where you place them rn
it's unlikely 1) that you'll get ideal placements without terraforming 2) you'll keep the same villagers and groupings
so I'd seriously just place them wherever you feel like for now, wait till you finish and get terraforming, then begin thinking about your placement of villagers
