maybe im too cynical here but im having lots of trouble finding things to match my theme. I'm not fond of cottage core or anything nature-y but I'm also not fond of flat islands with grid patterns with little to no height variation. I don't really like flowers. Too many wall panels makes my stuff look bland. I don't like "trendy" design things. I really only like pine trees. Or waterfalls (it's the noise) D: so this is kinda ruling out a majority of islands i can take ideas from since cottage core is super popular,,,

@prime loom You can always try plotting it out on the island design tool to get a better idea of how big you want it! The tool has a zoom feature, so it's much easier to see the actual blocks haha. Each house is 4x4 so you'll just need to add however many more blocks you want for yards and streets

@stable quarry Hey, don't be too hard on yourself! It's important that you don't compare yours to other islands and that you have fun while terraforming. I'd suggest maybe restarting to refresh your mind a bit and start completely from scratch

my island looks really awful, you can tell just by the map. im contemplating quitting or just restarting my island because of how awful it looks.
no matter how hard i try, i cant seem to fix it, i really need some help.

@stable quarry i'd suggest restarting completely! it's really working out for me. try not to think too hard about the placement of things, don't think about how this tree is gonna look over there or how this cliff is gonna look right here. completely wing it! restarting gives you a clean slate, and you'll find you've learned that looking at islands that seemed so much better than yours? they don't look so complicated, and you'll be on your way! :)

@stable quarry You dont necessarily need to restart. You can also clear everything that you build and restart piece by piece of your island?^^
Dont think too much about the whole pic for now, start somewhere and slowly demolish other parts. Just continue working on a piece of land till you are satisfied and continue on through your whole island?

@wild finch I would try playing around with it. You could place 4x4 dirt squares to mark out each house and see how much space you’d want to give each villager for yards. Just be mindful that depending on the size will determine the amount of space for the rest of the island

@glacial narwhal Use a lot of fossils to display outside, add fencing around it to make it look like its something to see. Place fossils on cliffs and build bridges in front of it to show it of as viewpoint.

@woven drift so once you hit 3 stars Tom will give you an app and then you can download custom designs from the machine in ables! Then you can use the terraforming tool to place down custom paths! There’s also in game paths that you can purchase from the machine in the resident services!

@rancid spire A path would probably really help, maybe a custom design one. There is also no theme or anything to the area, so I think maybe theme the items. The water also feels a bit random, maybe turn it into a waterfall or replace it. the cliffs also look a but strange, so maybe try to make it look a bit more natural.

I was trying to make the area a little more walled off so I wasn’t trying to make it too natural. I’ll probably extend the little pond so that it’s more symmetrical to the airport entrance. I’ll also take out the star and do some more wooden furniture
