Yeah the restriction of inclines and bridges is really annoying sometimes. You just have to be smart about placement of houses and where you really want the inclines so they look asthetically pleasing and are optimal for letting everyone get around the village

@woven drift ... I haven't done too much (I've literally only done the first half of my entrance, as well as a tiny bit of terraforming around my RS) but I can give you a few simple pieces of advice.

• If you want a natural theme, use natural materials and colors. Lots of people go with whites or blacks and throw in a few extra colors here and there like pinks or purples. Personally, I use blacks and reds.
• If you want natural, you're gonna need a TON of trees. For a soft natural look use hardwood trees primarily (can include some pine), for a tropical natural look use palm trees, and for a harsh natural look, use pine trees (mixed in with a few hardwood/fruit trees)
• You don't need to bunch villagers up together in a residential district. Try spreading them out and giving them their own personal little area. Trust me, I tried doing a res dist before and it really didn't fit with the theme.
• WOOD! Lots and lots of wood furniture. Also flower-based or stone furniture works really well. Plus fences and hedges.
• If you wanna go crazy, use some mushrooms. They give it a more autumnal foresty theme
• Paths really help tie the whole scene together. I'd recommend experimenting with both ingame paths and custom paths.

Other people will probably have better advice, but that's just the stuff I've learned from doing a few things on my own

same, I'd say the right river on the map looks fine @elder root but the left looks a bit unnatural and sharp curving. The aim imo is to get natural looking rivers. My couple of tips are: 1)try to make all rivers curve smoothly 2) don't make rivers that sharply change from one width to another (some people add a third rule of not making waterfalls come out of nowhere, but I personally don't mind sudden waterfalls)

tbh my island really doesn't have a theme. I do every villager's house in a completely different style. Whatever fits that character and their interests is essentially my theme, I don't care too much about an island theme

@woven drift there’s different ways you can try to put it. If you want to follow their aesthetic theme, if they’re pink and girly then continue that outside. Or tie it in with the theme of ur island? If you’re still not sure then try putting items that match the houses
