Some people like to have a fully planned out map layout and some Just want to have a rough Idea of what they are doing. Start landscaping area by area, never do you whole Island all at once and lastly I could DM you my list of area ideas c:

@vernal crane having a general theme helps. if you have multiple themes it helps to have similar decor tying them together eg. keep the type of bridges/inclines consistent or use the same flowers/flower colors or paths, etc. it’s challenging but it can be done!

Personally I draw on top of a picture of my map, but people use things like happy island designer (I think it's called) as well

@tight badge it’s all trail and error. The game is a marathon not a sprint. It takes time to build. Start with one area and then build up. I’m at 700 hours of play time and I’m still working on it

I never flattened my island out and started from scratch, i just slowly altered the original layout of my island till i got what i have now. I also had similar thought processes to you where i see something really pretty on another island and try to recreate it on mine, but it's important to understand that every island is different, and you can't just copy an entire area out of someone elses island. You have to make it your own

@tight badge From an artists perspective as well, it's nearly impossible to stop comparing yourself to others but it's exactly what you need to do. It's not what you don't have, but what you can eventually have and learn from other people. And as i said earlier, don't just copy entire sections off of other people. Might be cheesy but as picasso once said, good artists borrow, great artists steal - meaning take the idea for themselves and improve upon it

If you pick one theme for your whole island you can really bring it out and make it amazing, but i also feel like you end up missing out on a lot!! It's a waste to end up having to redo your entire island just because you want another theme zzz... I'm also not doing as much city areas anymore or trying not to at least, because to me it reaches a point where it's just repetitive

Mine is witchy, and each villager represents a different type of magic. I.e. Fauna is woodland magic, Zucker has the ocean, Roald is ice, Coco is the eldritch being no one knows how to define... etc, etc

But I did make it unique to where I have a water bungalow area which I haven’t seen on anyone else’s island yet. And there’s also other unique stuff on my island as well

@quiet meteor You can pretty much do anything with rivers lol. You can make them weave naturally or make them man-made looking. With Mine, I just kinda flooded my entire island lol

@bleak skiff i've seen people use 1x2 wood paths and place custom designed clothing in front of the window, and others that put a sowing machine in front! I put bushes and an umbrella stand in front of mines. Maybe this will be some inspiration?
